Ipad 2 Broken Screen

I have two ipad2's both with broken screens. Only the glass is broken and I have so far there has been no issue with the software. I am wondering what apple does with ipad such as mine, the cost and what I get. I am also wondering if they offer something where they buy the ipad off me and use it for parts, etc. Any answers would be much appreciated.
Thanks Malory22

Apple does not repair iPads, but will replace the entire iPad for a flat fee. See the Repair Pricing section here, selecting the country as appropriate:
http://www.apple.com/support/ipad/service/faq/
There are independent iPad repair services that may be able to replace the screen for less. Do a web search for "ipad repair".  You can also look for parts and instructions and do the repair yourself. Note, though, that if you elect to have the iPad serviced by an unauthorized shop or perform your own repair, you will get no further support from Apple.
Regards.

  • IPad broken screen

Just back from the Apple store having taken my 5 month old iPad 2 to the Genius bar with a cracked glass. I intended to buy a new iPad 64Gb 3G and have the iPad 2 repaired for another member of my family. The Genius who served me wanted almost £200 for the glass replacement and wouldn't consider any concession despite my new purchase. I'm a business customer and have owned virtually every Apple computer product since the Apple II (which I still have).
It's not really the money but that it's the first time in my long history supporting Apple that I felt that they didn't care. Needless to say I didn't buy the new iPad and left the store with my cracked glass. I'll have to get over feeling grumpy about this but I hope it's not an indicator of my future ownership experience with Apple products.

Well, the guy next to me in the queue had exactly the same problem and they repaired his for free because his daughter dropped it. I was asked to pay full whack (maybe because I admitted to dropping mine) and I was about to drop £645 on a new one too. Apple stores obviously have discretion over repair charges and I felt that they could have been more accommodating.
Apple charge a premium of course, but the maths is interesting:
Value of used iPad 2 64Gb WiFi with cracked glass around £165
Value of used iPad 2 64Gb WiFi after repair around £325
Apple charge for glass replacement £165 + 20% tax
There's a repair facility in London that replaces the glass for £75 including tax (but goodbye to the Apple warranty), so the cost of the glass can't be much more than about £25. I think Apple's pricing is more about encouraging the owner to sell the product and buy a new one than reflecting the real cost of the repair.

  • Replace ipad broken screen out of warranty

I saw somewhere that Apple might replace an iPad that is out of warranty for a discounted price of $299 for an iPad3?  Is this accurate and how do I go about proceeding with this, as the Apple Care Support wont even answer me because my one free yr of support is up (as of last month!)?

Will the out of warranty coverage cover water damage?
    Thanks

  • My ipad mini screen is broken and i still have the service coverage. Will they fix it for me ?

My ipad mini screen is broken. I bought it in Orlando in Febuary and when i last checked my status, my service coverage is still active but my technical support is not does it mean if i bring it in december they will be able to fix the screen for me or will i have to ay for the fix ?

Accidental damage is not covered by the warranty unless you have Apple Care+ which allows for two incidents ofa ccidental damage and there is a $49 copay for each incident. You do not have Apple Care+ so this would not be covered for you.
If you are saying that the screen broke on its own, you would have to convince Apple that it happened that way.
Apple offers an out of warranty iPad replacement with a refurbished device and the cost starts at $249.00 in the U.S. for an iPad 1. Apple does not repair iPads at this time, they offer these replacement devices. You can read more about it here.

I backed up my ipad to the cloud as it had a broken screen so I swaped it out for a new one and now I cant restore because the new Ipad has IOS 6 and my back up is 6.1!  This is what I get for buying an Ipad twice in a week because of a broken screen? $500 the first buy and then another $299 plus tax for the swaped out one that I can't restore with my backup data.

I assume that you will have to set up as new since it will not let you restore from the backup. Then after you set it up, you can restore from the iCloud backup. The backup should not disappear be use you are setting this device up as new. Your backup should still be in iCloud.
However, after you activate the iPd and update the software, you will have to erase the device in order to restore from the Cloud backup, that is the only way to get to the iCloud backup.
Copied from the article that linked you to this discussion ....
    Resolution
Update your device to the latest version of iOS to be able to restore the backup.

  • Broken Ipad 2 screen

Hey guys, I own the ipad 2, and I know I am out of warrenty, but the thing is that my ipad screen is broken. The screen will occasionally flash to what it originally looked like, then it will turn black again. I have tried turning it on and off and resetting it. I know it has something to do with the screen because in one of my fail attempts to turn off the ipad, I accidently took a screenshot and I heard the "snap" sound. I really need some help...and would greatly appreciate it if you guys gave me some advice. Thanks

  • IPad 3 won't start up (broken screen aswell) and when restoring/updating gives errors 3194 or 4005

Like the title says, I have an iPad 3 from a friend which has a broken screen and won't start up anymore. He is not sure whether it's just the screen or
something else aswell. So I'm able to get it recognized by itunes if I put it in recovery/dfu mode. Then I try restoring it but I get the error 4005 most of the time.
It has nothing to do with the solutions given when I search for error 4005 on google (like hosts file and stuff) because I can easily update my iPhone and my sisters' iPhone. With a program called TinyUmbrella I'm able to get it recognized in iTunes WITHOUT the ipad being in recovery mode, because the program has an option to kick it back out of recovery mode. Then I'm able to access the pictures and delete apps all that stuff in itunes/windows, but I still do not get anything on the screen. So then I tried updating to ios 7 because the iPad was still on ios 6.1.3 but then I get error 3194 which is kinda the same as 4005. Also tried restoring but that gave the same error.
So now i'm unsure whether the iPad would work if I replace the screen, because it seems to function properly when I can kick it out of recovery with TinyUmbrella. But then I thought, even if I did replace the screen, I still wouldn't be able to update the OS or restore? I don't want to waste my money replacing the screen if it won't even work afterwards..
Yes I tried different usb ports, yes I tried different cables, yes I tried the hosts file thing, I don't have an antivirus installed (only 'antivirus' I have is malware bytes, windows firewall is off, tried on a different computer, tried on a mac, ... I don't think this is the reason because my iPhone updates perfectly.
I did notice though that when restoring when the iPad is in recovery that it would say "waiting for ipad" but then my windows pc says "usb device not recognized" , maybe this has something to do with it?
    Solutions please?
    Thanks in advance

A PRRAM reset did the trick.

This Mac mini is a refurbished one, so probably had some old settings from being connected to something different before.
The TV now is recognized properly as 'Philips FTV'.

  • Backup of an iPad with broken screen

    hi all,
I have an iPad of a collegue with a broken screen, it just gives a few brightly colored lines. I can't see anything and can't type in the PINcode. There's no current backup and I would very much like to make a backup. I now, my collegue should thought of that befare, it's probably a lesson ;-)
When I connect it to iTunes it asks me unlock the device but I can't see the keyboard and it isn't working at all.
Is there a way to enter the pincode on a different way? Can I connect it to the iPad keyboard dock and type in the pincode?
any help would be very much appriciated.

In order to save on shipping and repair costs, you might want to look up a local Mac expert. That way, you save on shipping and repair. Find one who offers a warranty, and comes with references.

  • Does AppleCare cover broken screens on ipad

does AppleCare repair or replace broken iPad 2 screens.  I dropped iPad.

No - it only covers manufacturing defects for an extra year, it doesn't cover accidental damage

  • Ipad's screen broken

Anybody know what can I do if my Ipad's screen is broken?

Accidental damage isn't covered by the warranty, but Apple do a repair (i.e. replacement) service. I don't know what country that you are in, but in the US the price is (from here) :
    iPad model
    Out-of-Warranty Service Fee
    New iPad
    $299
    iPad 2, iPad
    $249
If you select your country at the top of that page then you might be able to find your repair options and the cost.

iPad's screen was broken. they will just replace the screen or replace the whole iPad?

Apple does not repair iPads. They will issue a replacement. But a screen does not break on its own. If you caused the damage to the device, you will have to pay for a replacement
