IPad 2 charger

I have ipods, iPhone 3GS, and now just bought an iPad2. I'm confused about charges. I know the chargers for the iPhones/iPods won't work for my new iPad, but is the iPad2's charger backwards compatible? Can I use it to charge the others?

You can use the same power cube that came with your iPhone to charge your ipad2. It will just take longer to charge.
Both of those devices run on 5 volts. The iPhone cube delivers 5 volts at 5 watts=1 Amp per hour
The IPad 2 cube runs at 5 volts at 10 watts=2amps Per hour.
What is crucial with this info is that you only need to make sure that the VOLTAGE of the power cube is the same as the voltage of the device. When they are, and these are, then wattage just becomes a function of how long it takes to fully charge the iPhones smaller but same voltage battery then the IPad 2 battery voltage. The IPhone has a battery sized at around 1600 Mah, I am approximating, and I know the IPad 2 has a battery around 5200Mah. Both of them are 5 volts.
Well the IPhone 4, 4s, and 5 are all five volts, as are the IPad, IPad 2, IPad 3, etc... All of the android smart phones and tablets are also five volts. It is an industry standard. Just check the small print on your iPhone power cube it will tell you the output voltage if you wanna make sure. It should be in range of 4.5-5volts. So that's cool to use on your IPad.
Try leaving it on the iPhone charger overnight for a full 100% charge. If you want verification just go to apples home page and click on each of your devices specifications tabs. You will see the voltages are the same. That is what really matters.

  • There is a problem with the charging cable that wont let my iPad charge. it is probably the little usb thingy. it does charge when it is out of power, but as soon as it turns on it stops charging. anyone got a fix for it? mail me at simenrognli@hotmail.no

My chargers little USB port probably is the fail. it lets my ipad charge only when it is completely out of power, but as soon as it turns on, it stops charging. Any tips on what i can do? The charger is new and has worked until today. i cant bring it to the store because it was bought in my neighbour country Sweden. Thanks in advance.

    - Try another cable.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. You can still go if your country has Genius Bars

  • When I try to turn on my iPhone 4, it wouldn't turn on unless if I use an iPad Charger. When it will turn on. I can't connect to any WiFi Services or my Service Provider, I can't text or call anyone. When I unplug my iPhone 4 it'll just shut off.

So when I try to plug in My iPhone 4 to any plug it won't turn on or charge unless if I use an iPad charger. When I do get to turn it on. My Phone will Standby for a few seconds( While I'm Typing my 4-Digit Code) then it'll unlock and go to the home screen. Once I'm on the home Screen I can't Call, Text or Email anyone because my iPhone Can't detect any Wifi Hotspots and it also can't connect to my Service Provider, It'll just Say "Searching...". The non-internet apps work perfectly fine. So since I was able to use Just an iPad Charger to turn on my iPhone 4, I tried a Regular iPhone charger that were plugged into a wall or my computer. When its Plugged in, my iPhone will turn on ( Showing the Apple Logo) then turn back off. It'll constanly do this only when it's plugged into a Regular iPhone Charger, Either plugged into a Wall Socket or my Computer. So I Tried to Restore the Phone by using some of the Methods, given by other iPhone 4 Users, non of them worked. My iPhone won't Restart, Restore, Turn on without a Charger, Be Detected on my Computer and Detect my Service Provider. I really need help to fix my iPhone 4. I'm really not sure if it's a Malfunction with the Software on the iPhone, if my Sim Card is Broken. if the System is Corrupted but it only happens Rarely.

  • My ipod will not charge from a wall socket but will charge using the same cable if the usb end is plugged into a computer or an airport power source. My iphone and ipad charge fine on the same cable usin ghte same wall plug in the same wall socket?

My ipod will not charge from a wall socket but will charge using the same cable if the usb end is plugged into a computer or directly into an airport power source. My iphone and ipad charge fine on the same cable using the same wall plug in the same wall socket. This makes no sense but I see that it has been posted as a problem elsewhere. This must be due to some kind of degredation of the Ipod. . It is not fixed by IOS resets as others have noted.
Has anyone asked Apple directly about this?

    Hi there Apples or Pears,
I would recommend taking a look at the troubleshooting steps found in the articles below.

I recently got an extension cord for my ipad charger and the first time I used it it worked and now when I plug it in to my ipad It doesn't do anything. What do I do?

I think that we all understood what you meant. If the extension cord is no longer working, then return it.
We are all trying to tell you that you can plug the power block into a standard household extension cord - using the short cord that came with the iPad - and there is no need for the extension cord that you bought.

Has anyone gone to Europe from the US and used the IPAD charger with only a plug adapter?  I want to be sure I won't burn up my IPAD.

  • Using iPad charger w/ iPhone 3GS

Is it safe to do so? I'd like to carry only one charger.

I'm sorry but you are wrong.
Both chargers are 5 VOLT. one is 5 watts and one is 10 watts. These are based on maximum amperages before the voltage drops. If you put an iPhone on the ipads charger it will see 5 volts as it always does. It has an inherent internal resistance and will draw a specific amount of amperage and hence power from the charger.

  • 30 pin Belkin cord not working with 12W Ipad charger

    Title
30 pin Belkin cord not working with 12W Ipad charger
    Updated my ipad to ios7
    Old charger stopped working
    Got new charger
    Still not charging
    Help
    Please thank you

Seems as if your tried changing everything but the 30-pin cable. Does the same cable work if you connect the iPad to your PC (does the PC recognize that the iPad is plugged in)?
Inspect the 30-pin port on the iPad for dust/lint which likes to get trapped inside. Clean out/blow out the 30-pin port on the iPad using a soft brush (like a paint brush).
Also inspect and clean the 30-pin connector on the cable. Even just a small amount of dust or lint on the connectors (especially in the 30-pin port on the device) can cause charging issues.

  • Why does my ipad charge no reaction

The new ipad charge without charging reaction.
But that charger can charging for ipod touch.
And the new ipad can't connect iTunes.

There are 4 things that could be wrong if your iPad doesn't charge
First, like others have said ONLY charge it plugged into the wall with the original provided charger. The iPad will not charge from a USB or computer. It also will not charge well using an iPod charger...yes the plugs are the same but the power output is not.
If you plug your iPad into the mains and you don't get the 'charging' chime and you're also having issues iwth iTunes, there could be an issue with your iPad.
    The charger is bad
    The outlet is bad
    The cable is bad
The port on the iPad is bad
If you have another iPad charging brick, give it a try and see if the problem resolves or remains
If you have another USB cable swap it out and see if hte problem resolves or remains
Plug them into a different outlet and see if hte problem resolves or remains
If you can replicate the 'not charging' with multiple chargers and cables and outlets then the only thing that remians is your 30 pin port going bad, which does happen. If that's the case, make an appointment at your ocal apple store and have them take a look at it. (Be prepared for them to do the whole troubleshooting gig because they'll have to confirm that it's not just your charger or cable). If they can replicate it, and barring any signs of obvious  'abuse or neglece' then the malfunction can be covered under the warranty.

  • Ipad is sometimes "not charging" and sometimes charging ..i have to pull out and put tje charging pin many times til i see the icon that it is charging..i have an original ipad charger..and it always takes time for it to charge succesfully

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W (5W on Mini) USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.

At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • Can I use the iPad charger as a live USB hub?

If i was to use my iPad charger (after removing the cable), as a live USB hub for my external speakers, would that cause damage to the charger? Would this set up work? I've blown up a mac charger before with these experiments, don't wanna do another.

The problems with the Apple Maps app were overblown. Yes, there were some isolated accuracy and direction issues when it was released, but Apple has made a lot of improvement since then. I use it on my iPhone all the time and have yet had problems. It doesn't always choose the same route I would have chosen, but that's with all navigation apps.

    Hello there, batulububa.
The following Knowledge Base article although written for iPhone can be used in troubleshooting your iPad battery issue:
    iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2802
    Specifically the following:
Battery does not charge from the USB power adapter
Important: Only original iPhone can be charged from a FireWire-based power source. If iPhone is connected to a computer that's turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the battery may drain.
Verify that the outlet being used is working.
Try another USB power adapter if available.
If no other USB power adapter is available, try connecting to a high-power USB 2.0 port (not a keyboard). The computer must be turned on and not in sleep or standby mode.
Try another USB cable if available.
Also refer to iPhone and iPod touch: Charging the battery.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro D.
