IPad 2 died during 5.0.1 OTA update. Any ideas?
I wanted to update to 5.0.1 OTA and after it was half done the screen went black and I couldn't turn it on anymore. Connected to iTunes, I only have the option to restore the iPad but then I get the error message "The iPad could not be restored. An unknown error occured (3194)" and nothing happens. Hard reset also doesn't help. The screen is nothing but black. My firewall and network settings are all alright. I tried everything I found on the Apple website. Any ideas or similar experience with the OTA update?
Thank you for that clarification. I stumbled upon this page from Google link, and didn't factor that in.
I was somewhat surprised and disappointed by the response I received from the Genius Bar rep. He connected the iPad to his laptop to run some diagnostics, and told me that the issue was a hardware one and that my only option was to pay $250 to replace the unit.
What I explained was that the unit was working fine quite literally up until I tried the OTA update to the latest OS...and that it literally bricked in the midst of that process. This was met with the same response.
The experience seemed somewhat unusual, given that I have had success with that store and exactly that same rep on various other device issues in the recent past.
He didn't share any error code information, so I'll have to take a look at that at home.
My quick perusal of Google and the forums suggests that this issue is not unique to me/my iPad...or necessarily the coincidence that the rep suggested.

I tried to export photos from iMac to iPad using a USB flash drive. The photos are on the drive but when I plug it into the iPad, the iPad says the device requires too much power. Any ideas of what type of USB flash drive I should use?
You can transfer photos outside of iTunes. I do it all the time. THat said, i have a 50/50 success rate with them. I'd avoid sandisk and kingston, their bundled software triggers the 'too much power' warning.
I've had mixed luck with lexar, some work, some don't.
I did have good luck with an older 4 gig geek squad one.
Look for drives without software on them, without bright LED lights and I haven't gotten any larger than 4 gig to work, but that may just be me.
For a less troublesome way? h onestly, I use a SD card that I've formatted with the DCIM folder. I've never had one of them trigger the 'too much power' warning. Just make sure they're not SDXC. those don't work. -
I have the first ipad and it won't recognize the charger and also the computer won't recognize the ipad when I plug it in to sync. Any ideas why?
If your using the same cable for your wall charger as you are for your computer, than the problem is probably within the cable (if there isn't visible damage to the cable of coarse). The quockest solution would be to buy your self a new cable. There is probably nothing wrong with your wall adapter, so just the cable will do.

I have recently upgraded my mac and ipad to IOS7 and find that Safari will not load onto my iPad. It just shuts down the app. Any ideas? I have been onto Mac who took me through a very long iPad robot, but the problem is still the same! Help appreciated
Do you mean that you did a soft-reset ?
Try clearing Safari's cache : Settings > Safari > Clear Cookies And Data and also Clear History
If that doesn't fix it then try closing Safari via the iPad's multitaskingbar and see if it works when you re-open it :double-click the home button to open the taskbar and then swipe or drag the Safari app's 'screen' up and off the top of the screen to close it, and click the home button to close the taskbar.
After trying the above you could also do a soft-reset (even if this is what you've already done it might be worth trying after clearing Safari's cache and closing the app via the taskbar) : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot. -
IPad fails to connect to WiFi after OTA update to iOS 6
After the OTA update to iOS 6 my new iPad fails to connect to my WiFi network at home. My LANCOM router reports the following issue:
Index: 62294
Zeit: 19.09.2012 21:08:28
Interface: WLAN-1
Ereignis: Rejected Association from WLAN station xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx []: ()
Adresse: xxxxxxxxxxxx
Grund: Cannot support all requested capabilities in Capability Information field
It has worked flawlessly in the past with iOS 5 on my new iPad and iPhone 4. At the moment I hestitate to update my iPhone too.
Anyone with the same issue or an idea how to fix it?
Thanks in advance, greetings from Stuttgart (Germany),

Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

My ipad has a black screen and won't start, any ideas?
My Ipad 1 has a black screen and won't start, any ideas? It is charged.
If Paul's advice doesn't work try this.
Hold down on the sleep button AND the home button at the same time for about 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears on the screen - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons and let the iPad restart.
BTW ...In order to start up under normal circumstances you only need to hold down on the sleep button for a couple of seconds or so until the Apple logo appears on the screen. -
My ipad air won't complete restore from cloud. Any ideas?
Just purchased iPad Air and restored from iCloud. It appears stuck now for a couple days and it won't let me update the iOS until it finish's. Any ideas on what it is? I have very few photos so I do not know what the problem is. I have sync'd with itunes for my videos so I don't see that being an issue.
You restored what from iCloud? The backup of a previous iPad?
Are you using wifi?
Reboot the iPad, turn off wifi and use iTunes to update and restore. -
Hi
I want to reset my email password.
When I go to settings & then mail the account I want to change is in grey & so won't respond.
Any idea how I make it change to bold so I can go into it & change my password?
EHey Esmerelda17,
Thanks for the question. I understand you are wishing to change the stored password for an email account on your iPad 2.
If you are unable to edit this field, you may want to remove and re-add the account. Please make sure to back up all of your information before doing so. Also Note: if this is an external email provider, you'll need to reset your password using their website, then update your iPad to reflect the new password.

My iPad 3 will not power on or charge? Any ideas support community?
My iPad 2 will not power on. Any ideas on what to do? Thank you.
If not successful try the remaining items of:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try another cable
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Why won' remote app for Apple tv work on my iPad or iPhone? Home sharing is turned on.
A frequent cause of consistent failure to enable AirPlay or HomeSharing at all, is the service being blocked on the network. Make sure your network isn't hidden, has a unique name, that MAC address authentication is disabled, security is set to use WPA 2 Personal and that there is only one router/device acting as a DHCP server and providing NAT services.
Make sure your router/computer allows access over the following ports

Refer to your router manual/manufacturer for any settings that are specific to that model.
Another frequent cause of consistent failure to enable AirPlay or HomeSharing at all, is security software, in many cases configuring it correctly, disabling it or even uninstalling it can help, but in some cases the security software can cause problems that simply reconfiguring, disabling or uninstalling cannot reverse.
If you are consistently unable to activate AirPlay, have tried all the steps in this article and have security software installed on your system, you might benefit from contacting its provider or participating in any online forums they run to discuss the matter with them -
Hey all! Recently got an IPad Mini. Already have a Macbook. I have a folder full of songs(lyrics and chords) on the Mac. The file type inside the folder are all "Web Archive". I am trying to transfer this folder to my Mini, via Bluetooth. It won't allow me to transfer, it says "device missing services"? I have no idea what this means. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance.
You can't transfer files to another device using bluetooth.
I'm not really sure you can transfer web archives from mac to iOS device using itunes or icloud. Remember, on an iOS device, any file has to belong to an app. The device does not have a file system like the mac where you can move files into any folder you want.
