Ipad 2 dimensions

I know the techinical dimensions are 9.5 (height) x 7.3 (width) x 0.34 (depth).. however, when packaging an iPad 2, how would one go about declaring its dimensions, when the required entries are for "Lenght, Width, Height" ?
Would 9.5 serve as the "length" , and 0.34 as the "width" ?
Sorry if this is in the wrong section.

  • Android app with iPad dimensions

    Hello,
I built an app for iPads using iPad dimentions. Can I take the same folio and publish it to androids through the DPS builder? Or do I have to rebuild it with different dimentions?
    Thanks

I have 4 free and public folios. However, they are simply an iPhone redition & iPad redition of Folio1 & iPhone & iPad rendition of Folio2. 4 total. Only the iPhone editions appear in the library through google play. Is this because it is grabbing the iPhone rendition and dismissing the iPad version?
I am currently correcting this by submitting the .apk of only the iPad rendition of foliio1 and folio2 through a different Adobe ID.

  • Have the external buttons/speaker/camera changed on the new iPad mini?

Easy question, I suspect. But I can't find the answer online. I'll buy a "retina" mini as soon as it becomes available. I'm thinking of going ahead and ordering a case. The case manufacturer assures me the current case will fit. I want to be sure.
Has any of the hardware changed on the new mini? Enough to necessitate a redesigned case? This would include, for example, different button placements, different speaker sizes, different camera placement, or grossly different iPad dimensions. Maybe the case consultant didn't know his/her [insert proper expletive].
I thank you, in advance, for your advice on this simple question. (Perhaps you may give me a link to a page containing the answer, showing me how my online search failed!)

    There is a comparison here : http://www.apple.com/ipad/compare/
The Mini Retina is 0.3 mm thicker, but the height and width are the same
As far as I can see (going on the images from the below pages) the buttons, speakers, cameras are in the same place

  • Photoshop text opened in InDesign looks aweful

I must being doing something very wrong: creating a book cover (using iPad display dimensions) in Photoshop, adding Monotype Corsiva title/author text onto an artist's .jpeg (150 ppi). It looks fine in Photoshop but when I save and place into InDesign (same iPad dimensions) the text looks degraded. I've tried .EPS and all anit aliasing settings to no avail. Can't find anything in the manual, so if anyone has any advice I'd be v. grateful. Mucho gracias...

Display screen dimensions do not use PPI. Why are you defining PPI?  Why are you choosing EPS?
Use PDF and create your graphic at the specific pixel dimensions required for your display device: 1024x768 pixels.
Also beware that InDesign defaults to display low-res previews of placed images. You need to explore InDesign's view options to preview in high resolution.

  • InDesign CS6 e pub conversion question

I got the basics of InDesign down pretty good. I'm able to create interactive pdfs fine and I wanted to take the .id file that created the pdf and convert it to an epub. When I did everything came thru quite nicely except for a few things. First, the cover or first page of the .id is made up of text and images. The text is 100pts 75pts then an image. The paragraph styles all used size 18 text. When looking at the exported epub on an IPad obviously the text is way too large to fit the screen correctly.
With that mentioned is there a way to take the original id file, change the preferences so the cover font is smaller along with the paragraph fonts? Because the original id file was set to be viewed at 51p0 x 66p0 and of course this size would be a factor when viewing in a smaller setting as an IPad is 1024 x 768.
Is there a set way to do this or do I have to create another id file with the Ipad dimensions and manually copy and paster the font and make smaller?
    RD

Unless you have an extremely simple document, you're going to have to learn more about creating EPUB files. You'll usually have to do some preparation in InDesign, and possibly do some tweaking in the CSS after exporting the EPUB. The process definitely has a steeper learning curve than exporting a PDF file.
    Here are a couple resources:
    * Liz Castro's books about creating EPUB files are highly reommended:
    http://www.elizabethcastro.com/epub/
    * Anne-Marie Concepcion has videos on Lynda.com for creating EPUB in CS5 and 5.5 (I'm sure CS6 is coming). Bob can probably give you a link for a free week on Lynda.com if he sees this.

  • Bug in PDF pinch and zoom?

Hi, I have a big problem related the PDF pinch and zoom.
When I try to make an article with 2 vertical pages each containing one imported PDF and 1 horizontal page contain two imported PDF, the result is a simple jpeg page with no pinch and zoom.
The strange thing is that if in the same article I add more vertical and horizontal pages, the pinch and zoom works!
I use the latest version of Folio builder and Folio Producer and, off course, I follow the normal steps: I choose PDF when I create an article, I use iPad and not Android and the PDF zooming is enabled in Viewer Builder.
I need to have 2 vertical pages and 1 horizontal to adapt an a paper magazine (I know the DPS has not been made for this but my publisher want to publish all our magazine with this platform, we also have a magazine specifically designed for the DPS ). My "idea" is create a stack every two pages to allow rotation between pages remaining on the same pages and enable the horizontaly flow between "articles" but if the pdf are transformed in jpeg I can't proceed...
It's a bug or I missed some step?
Thanks in advance for your answers
Claudio (from Italy, sorry for my english!)

I think there might be a bug here.
I've successfully created a pinch zoom folio using the sidecar.zip files posted by Klaasjan.
However if I import my own article (_h and _v both set to iPad dimensions and containing a simple text field of text).
If the article format is set to PDF, once created and I view the Properties panel, the Smooth Scrolling option is set to Horizintal only and greyed out so it cannot be changed. So no pinch/zoom is available.
If the article format is set to Automatic, once created and I view the Properties panel, I can set the Smooth Scrolling property to Off (Snap to page) and tick the Horizintal Swipe Only checkbox (so I'm matching the setting of the sidecar examples).
However, when I the Update the article to the Folio Producer and then check the article Properties again, the Smooth Scrolling has reverted to Horizontal Only. So again, no pinch zoom.

  • Preview changes the look of a photo in Mavericks

I downloaded and installed Mavericks with no issues, but now I'm having an issue with preview...
I've received a couple of photos for a chapter of a book I'm doing in iBooks Author.  In Mountain Lion's Preview, I would open the photo, resize it to iPad dimensions and then close it with no issues.  Now however, when I do the same thing, the photo becomes notably darker to the point that you can barely see some of the details.  You can see the difference here...I've done nothing to the original (at bottom) except open it in Preview, resize it, and save a copy, but something is going on with levels or contrast or something.  FYI, the darkness doesn't show up after I resize it, but this is how it saves out.  Any ideas?
This is a serious problem for me!

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
What are you trying to achieve? DPI is a bit of a numbers game, as Old Toad says. If you have a pic that's 500 x 500 @ 300 dpi. then increasing the length and breath will decrease the dpi., and reducing them will increase it. IN any event, such changes are made using the File -> Export dialgue.

  • Placing Images and PPI issues

Hello, I am new to InDesign.. I am a digital artist who has only used PS in the past, so I'm used to manipulating images however I like concerning PPI, DPI, and pixels. I am now creating an app for ipad use and created the background images for the pages in PS. Now, I'm placing them into ID. When I do that, no matter what I have the file saved as, it converts the image to a different ppi.
When I created the images in PS, I used the standard ipad resolution (262px) and dimensions. When I created the ID file, I used the standard ipad dimensions and the ppi is obviously much lower, at 72?
Is there a way to set the ID resolution, or do I need to create my documents with only 72ppi? This doesn't seem like it would give the best image viewing available on the ipad.
    Thank you!

InDesign respects the original size and resolution of images, as long as you keep them at 100% of the original size. When they are at 100%, the "Actual ppi" and "Effective ppi" fields of the Info panel display the same value. In your specific case, the Info panel needs to show "262" in both fields. If not, it means that the respective image is scaled. To verify its scale, click the image using the Direct Selection Tool (the "white arrow" one) and look at the percentage fields in the Control Panel. (By the way, the resolution of the retina iPads is 264 ppi, not 262.)
When importing an image, the easiest way to assure that it will be placed at 100% is simply clicking the loaded cursor instead of dragging it. Give it a try.
But bear in mind that this "ppi" issue only matters for print publications. For tablet apps, what is important is the number of pixels; the resolution is irrelevant. For retina iPads, you need to use twice the size you use in a standard screen iPad. So, if you want a full-page image in an old iPad, the image dimensions must be 1024 by 768 pixels. If you want the same image in full screen on a retina iPad, create it with 2048 by 1536 pixels. You'll get a better explanation here: http://www.planetquark.com/2012/03/14/132-ppi-72-dpi-264-ppi-what-image-resolution-should- you-use-the-for-new-ipad/#.UhdbsLwWFL8

  • Graphic Designer needs help.

    Good evening.
Not sure where to post this but I'm a Graphic Designer and I'm wanting to design and make those cool vinyl designs that people put on there Apple products. Does anyone know or know where I can get the measurements for all the Apple laptop and iPad models? Mainly the area where the Apple logo is. MacBook Pro 13,15in, Apple air and iPad. And even the size of the Apple logo itself. Is it the same size on all devices? I tried looking online but couldn't find anything off the bat. Hopefully the good people on the forum might know more about this. Thank you.

The PDF below shows iPad dimensions, but the file is 10.8 MB so may take some time to load:

  • Audio Playback on iOS - not making sense to me. - Help Please?

I've read A LOT of things and tried several approaches. As EDGE ANIMATE and INDESIGN DPS are a whole new experience to me, I'm probably just missing something simple, but I REALLY need help getting audio to play on an iPad (air) or otherwise.
I know that iOS will NOT allow autoplayback of audio -- that's fine - makes sense to me, but I can't even get it to play with the built in audio commands or by using the Buzz.js approach  (which I know is outdated - but I'm desperate) by attaching the audio to a user interaction, like an invisible button that plays when clicked, or hovered.
I have included a link to what I have thus far (native AN files) below. If someone would PLEASE let me know what I'm missing -- that would be GREATLY appreciated.
    Thanks.

Sorry for not getting back to you on this until today. I am an Art Director managing 4 other artists, a video editor, a designer, a fledgling mobile developer, etc., etc. I have been pulled away from this project for three days now. I appreciate you offering to look into this. I will try to get the simple files up to you ASAP. I am using the HTML generated from Animate within a InDesign CC / DPS project. The animation you have been looking at is only page 2 (FOLIO) of a multiple page (FOLIO) project.
I use a box object on the InDesign page that is the size of the full-screen iPad dimension: 768x1024, and choose the HTML Folio Overlay object. I link to the HTML file from the published Animate project. I have been publishing the files to my Adobe Content Viewer on my Adobe Cloud Account and then downloading them to an iPad to view using the Adobe Content Viewer for iPad. The animation and button actions work just fine, but NO AUDIO .
I have tried to use the .OAM files in InDesign - but they NEVER WORK! They only appear as a single Image from the poster frame and won't play at all.
    ALL HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED.

  • Adobe Edge in DPS: size issue in fullpage animation

    hello
if i make a fullpage animation 1024*768 in edge
    and import it
    it works
    BUT
the problem is that if something ion the animation went "outside" the 1024*768 in Edge, then indesign understands that you can go further in iPads dimensions
Exemple: i got a flying object that gets out of the screen, so in my animation at the end it has to be out of the 1024*768 original box right ?
then when i import the html through overlay creator panel in a 1024*768 rectangle it's fine but when i go to the ipad, if my finger moves to the right (where my flying object went), then it does a swipe from the overflow dimensions in some kinf of blank page
    is that normal ?

I'm having a hard time picturing this. Can you post the actual Edge file that you're placing?
Edit: If you're using CS6 you place the OAM file. For earlier file you would indeed need to link to the HTML.
In either case if the stage is 1024x768 there shouldn't be an issue.

  • DPS and A4 pdf

I have a client that is keen on creating a budget app with Adobe digital publishing suite. Am I able to use a pdf sized to A4 as my artwork? Do I need to place the pdf pages into indesign? Can the apple app store accept pdfs and we can readily download them onto our ipads? Further to that can I use the same A4 pdf to submit to the android store, can they download A4 pdfs onto other tablet devices? Are there any restrictions to this method? At the moment I base this question on a pdf with no interactivity.
    Regards Linda

    Hi Linda
yes you can use PDF's, remember that the ipad dimensions equate to 210x280mm so importing A4 into the ipad proportions will mean cropping; but in my experience, its not too bad. These same PDF's can be used for Android but you just get more extreme cropping or more mormally extra space top and bottom (known as letterboxing) Obviously PDF's come in a wide variety of resloutions, so just test a bit to get the right compromise of quality versus file size to meet your requirements.
There have been a few issues with some versions of PDF with extremely thin lines appearing, which is due to certain versions of Acrobat being used to save the PDF, again just test (I think using the latest version on acrobat to save the PDF is fine)
    Hope that helps.
    Cheers
    Alistair

  • What are the best dimensions to allow for iPad 3 Retina for full-page landscape images?

What are the best dimensions to allow for iPad 3 Retina for full-page landscape images?
I read an article and cannot find it that said something about trying to make it 2million pixels and JPG to keep it small, but what exactly should the dimensions be that I ultimately import?  Is there some kind of a "density" setting I have to use, as well, when exporting from Photoshop, for example?

See Optimizing performance in your iBooks Author books
Density is discussed by Apple in this context as 'dpi'...

  • Recommended image size and dimensions for images displayed on iPad retina?

What are the recommended dpi image size and dimensions for images designed in DPS app as displayed on an iPad retina?

  • Correct iPad video dimensions?

I am putting together a video presentation to be played on an iPad. I was under the impression that the iPad's video dimensions are 1280x720 - my video is therefore 1280x729 pixels... However, when I play it on the iPad, it is played with black bars top and bottom - the video doesn't fill the entire screen....
Clearly I'm doing something wrong somewhere - this is the first time I've done this - can someone please point me in the right direction!?
    Thanks very much!

    Found the fix.
If the reboot doesn't fix it.
If the headphoens work find, but no external speakers.
If the double-click and page right to the software mute, doesn't show the sound knob - just the brightness
If your pop-up shows "Docking Station"
Then, the problem is very likely a dirty connector.  The iPad/iPhone/iPod connector uses a resistor value to determine if the device is connected to an external 'speaker'.  There are a range of resistances, for a range of products.  This is known as the Connector Pin 21 issue.
Take some windex on a que-tip, or perhaps a Windex paper scrub and rub it on the bottom connector port.  Somehow, "something" has gotten on those contacts, and it is pulling the voltage on pin #21 down - so that the iPad "thinks" it's connected to an external speaker - this will disable the internal speaker circuitry, as well as the internal speaker volume controls.
Do not over-saturate and short out your iPad.  Do not throw it in the sink, do not use the kitchen faucet to flush it out.  A Que-tip with a few drops of Windex (or other gentle cleaner) should work just fine.  Takes all of 30 seconds - and magically, the volume knob appeared and everything worked just fine.

  • AIR for iOS: iPad and iPhone Dimensions?

Sorry if this has already been answered, but I couldn't find it in the forums here.
To run on the iPad, I built a 1024x768 stage-dimensions app in Flash CS6 (my app also has graphics which are 768x1024 for portrait mode).
    I have this code:
    stage.scaleMode = StageScaleMode.NO_SCALE;
    stage.align = StageAlign.TOP_LEFT;
    I know the iPhone 4 is 960x640, and iPhone 5 is 1136x640.
My questions, since I don't have all these iPhones for testing:
    1) Do earlier iPhones run in even smaller resolutions?
    2) If I branch my app off to a section that also has 960x640 graphics, and if I do some device detection to direct to these graphics (when on an iPhone 4 or 5), will these 960x640 graphics still stretch to 1136x640 on the iPhone 5?  Or, will the iPhone 5 have a blank area for the extra 176 pixels?
    3) Are there any known ways to best-handle the pot-pourri of iPhone resolutions?
Thanks for any direction on this.

you should get any resolution your app is running on with
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/FlashPlatform/reference/actionscript/3/flash/system/Capabiliti es.html#screenResolutionX
when targeting a wide array of resolutions Flashs default solutions are imo suboptimal.
On MacOSX there is sometimes the problem that you have to artificially delay the fullscreen event, otherwise it won`t work as expected.
If you are targeting iOS specifically that could be a problem, too.
this function generally works better, than using the NO_SCALE/TOP_LEFT combination:
    function goScaledFullScreen() {
        var screenRectangle:Rectangle=new Rectangle(0,0,stage.stageWidth,stage.stageHeight);
        stage.fullScreenSourceRect=screenRectangle;
        stage.displayState=StageDisplayState.FULL_SCREEN;
