IPad 2 doesn't change orientation when rotated..

I bought an iPad 2 the day it came out, and it worked flawlessly until I updated to 4.3.2. Now if I want to change the screen orientation, I have to turn the screen off, put the iPad in the desired position, then unlock it again. I have the switch set to control orientation, but it is in the unlocked position. Any ideas of should I just restore it?

I am experiencing the same problem to sir BrownK, and I am trying your recommedation but still not work out

  • Hi there, why doesn't my iPad change orientation when I write an email?

    Hi
I have a problem with my iPad 2. It doesn't change orientation when I go into Mail and start writing. I haven't touched the 'lock orientation' button.
Can anybody explain how to fix this?
    Thanks in advance,
    Cee Cee

    - First make sure that you don't see the lock icon on the top right corner (it may have been activated by default).
    - If other apps keep rotating but just the Mail one doesn't, then you probably need to force quit the Mail app.
    Two ways to do that:
    - in Mail, press the Sleep/Wake button for 10-15 sec until the shutdown screen appears, then press the home button until the app quits.
    - on the homescreen, double press the home button to see the opened apps, the press on the mail app until you see them bouncing with a red circle on the top left of the icon, and press on that sign for the mail app, then press the home button again to go back to normal.
Then, launch mail again and check if it works.

  • My airport express seems to be broken -- light is yellow and does not flash and doesn't change even when I press the "reset".  Tried unplugging and reset -- still a solid yellow.

AX light is yellow and does not flash and doesn't change even when I press the "reset".  Tried unplugging and reset -- still a solid yellow. I assume this is a goner?

Unfortunately, based on your description, I would have to second that your Express is a "goner." However, before giving up on the unit, be sure that you attempt a "factory default" reset at least 3x just to be sure.

  • TS3274 My iPad won't change orientation. What do I do?

My iPad won"t change it's orientation. What do I do?

Is there a lock symbol at the top of the screen next to the battery indicator ? If so, then depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (rotation lock or mute notifications), then you can lock/unlock the rotation by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad, or via the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon far left; press home again to exit the taskbar. The function that isn't on the side switch is set via the taskbar instead : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4085
If there isn't a lock symbol then try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • Rotating iPad doesn't change screen direction

When I rotate my iPad, the screen icons do not change position as it did in the beginning. Did I change a setting? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

Did you turn the screen rotation lock on accidentally. It's the top button on the right hand side of the iPad, just above the volume up and down control.

  • IPhone 5s videos change orientation when saved to PC.

    Hello:
I have shot videos with my 5s in both portrait and landscape and then saved to my PC.  ALL the videos have been re-oriented.  I can open them in Windows Live Movie Maker and rotate them but when I do they appear about 2/3's smaller than the original.  There is about an equal amount of black space on either size of the video, as the video itself.  My goal is to share my videos with my family via email or CD but don't want then to have to turn their heads sideways to see the video or to have the correct orientation but have it too small.  I looked at Quicktime 7 Pro but I couldn't tell from the product description if it would do this.
Thanks in advance for any help and Happy New Year to All!!

Windows or the Microsoft apps included for photo/video viewing don't recognize or ignore the photo and video orientation data included with the EXIF data with every photo and video captured by the iPhone. The orientation isn't being changed during or after the import, Windows or the Microsoft apps included just ignores or doesn't recognize it.
There are 3rd party apps available for Windows that don't do this. QuickTime is one of them.

  • My ipad screen won't turn when rotated

My ipad screen will not rotate when I turn the ipad in its side.  Is there a setting I need to change?

Yes there is a rotation lock setting.
First try the switch above the volume rocker. If that doesnt work then double click the home button. It should display a multitasking bar at the bottom of the screen. Slide that to the right and it should display a few settings including screen lock. Make sure that it is unchecked.

  • IPod changing pictures when rotated

I have this strange issue, where when I am viewing pictures & try to use the accelerometer to rotate the picture it changes the picture to someother one. Here is a video of the issue in action

I have done the 5 Rs(reset, retry, restart, reinstall, restore) 4 times & the issue still doesn't go away! Yes, it is running the newest firmware. Any help will be appreciated.

I think Wade is on the right track with an effect being applied to this (eg: envelope distort), but the effect is probably applied at a group level that you have not inspected yet.
Try selecting your bitmapped image with the direct (hollow arrow) tool, make a new document paste the image in a fresh new document and rotate. This test can tell us if maybe you have an effect applied at the entire layer level, or atleast simplify so you can troubleshoot better, or open the door to a solution for you on this by simply replacing the effected image in the original.
Nested groups, compound paths, masks, envelope distorts all complicate this so answering this post is difficult without being able to examine the file.

  • PSE9-some pix change orientation when moved to premiere elements

When I create a slide show in PSE9 and try to create a DVD in Premiere Elements 9 some of the pictures (just a few) invariably wind up sideways- i.e. 90 degrees from where they appear in PSE9. This happens for both horizontal and vertical pictures. How can i prevent or corrrect this?

Not sure why this is happening unless you are not using camera EXIF data to determine orientation. But you can correct.
When you output to PRE your project opens as a single item in the Sceneline.
Right click on the project in the Sceneline and choose “Break Open PSE Slideshow”
You can then highlight an individual frame so that it appears in the main window. Click on the main window to get the bounding box and you can drag the corner handles to rotate into the correct position.

  • Earpod headset doesn't change volume when iPhone 5 is on charge?

When my iPhone is put on charge my headset's volume buttons don't change volume, however when I take the phone off charge it starts working again. It is not a hardware issue as I have recently got my earpods replaced on warranty, I suspect it's to do with the iOS's accessory feature mistaking the charger for a dock of some kind and disabling the headphones from interacting. I am currently on iOS 6.1. Thanks, Oliver

    Hi Bobi1346,
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities and for including the error number you are getting.
There's an article for troubleshooting that error.
    iOS: Restore errors 4005, 4013, and 4014
Try these steps to resolve the issue:
Install the latest version of iTunes.
    Restart your computer.
Make sure your computer is up to date. If an update requires a restart, check for updates again after you restart.
Learn more about updating OS X.
    Learn more about updating Windows.
    Restore using another USB cable.
Restore your device on another computer.
If you continue to see error 4005, 4013, or 4014 when you restore your device, contact Apple for support.
    Take care,
    Nubz

You sure you have't got it locked? There's a switch on the right hand side, see the image below:
Also, don't twist your iPad. Have you read the owner's manual yet?

  • My ipad doesn't make sound

my ipad doesn't make sound when a notification appear, what can i do?

The side switch is the key.  Depending on your settings, it may affect the mute or it may affect the rotation lock.  Whichever function it supports, the other function is performed by a "soft switch."  This support article from Apple provides detail.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4085
In case you're wondering, here is the history.  Originally, the mechanical switch affected only the rotation lock and the mute was a software switch elsewhere.  In IOS-3, it was changed to be the mute switch and the rotation lock became a software switch.  This was done to ensure consistency among IOS devices.  Unfortunately, a large quantity of users complained loudly, alleging that they turned the rotation lock on and off several times every hour and the convenience of the mechanical switch is essential.  In IOS-4, Apple bowed to the whiners and made the switch function selectable and now we're stuck with a mess.
    If that doesn't help, continue...
Try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.

  • Find my iphone/ipad doesn't work

    Hello everyone...
I open this discussion because find my iphone/ipad doesn't locate it when it conected on wifi and with the location and find my iphone/ipad activated.
I have tried everything that you can imagine and what you can't thing for solve this problem... Deactivating and activating the switches for location and FMi, deleting the icloud account, using another icloud account, and even restoring the device and reinstalling it from zero... I don't have any other idea and I hope someone can help me on it.
    Thanks for your time

It could be the router (if you are using wifi).  First try rebooting it and testing.
It could be that your ISP hasn't associated a location with the router (this is needed for location to be determined).  In this case there's nothing you can do.  To test for this case, try FMi at a public wifi location (most of them have the routers properly identified).  If it works at one such spot, then you'll know it's your router.  If not, then I can't offer any more suggestions, as the list you give above pretty much covers the usual troubleshooting routines.
An iPhone shouldn't have such problems, since it has GPS onboard.  Likewise a 3G iPad has GPS (the wifi only versions do not).

  • TS3274 my ipad doesn't rotate correctly when I turn it.  what do i do?

All of sudden my ipad doesn't rotate when I turn it no matter what buttons i push in settings.  Has anyone else had this problem & have an answer?

Try rebooting the iPad and see if that helps.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up

  • Content Viewer crashing when changing orientation

The magazine I've made seems to be crashing A LOT when I change orientations. This is more noticeable when I go back and fourth between orientation Vertical to Horizontal then imediately back to Vertical. (My client is pissed off).
I've tested this on iPad 1, 2 & 3 and have the same issue on each. I'm using CS6 and my folio is PDF rather than JPG or PNG.
Does anyone else have this problem or can suggest a way to make changing orientation more stable?

I'll give the same advice I just gave someone else. It's possible you've run into a bug, However, first try the two standard troubleshooting tips:
    (1) Restore InDesign's preferences: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/526990
    (2) If that doesn't work, you might guess the file is corrupted. Save it as an INX file:http://forums.adobe.com/thread/526991
    Good luck!
