Ipad 2 - email PDF attachments corrupt

I seem to be having trouble viewing PDF's on my Ipad2.  They read fine on my iphone and my mac and my work PC.  When I "open in" any reader I have same problem.  I tried Ibooks, goodreader, notesplus, Pdf provider and so on.  I get some graphics but then blurry or blackish boxey lines where words should be written.
I can open them in "cloud on" fine also.  Strange.
Any comments?

Greetings,
That is rather strange. Attachments are attachments.  The big difference between what will send and what won't is usually either who you are sending it to (wrong email address) or how big the attachment is (most email providers have a limit to the total message size between 10 MB and 20 MB).
-- What happens when you say you are "unable to email PDF attachments"?  What error message do you get?
-- Are you sending these emails using the Mail program?
-- What is the file size of the PDF you are trying to send?
-- What happens if you compress the PDF before you email it (Highlight the PDF on the desktop and then go to File > Compress) ?
-- What happens if you send the PDF to yourself?
Cheers.

  • Adobe reader X prints email PDF attachments as english then oriental

Using Windows XP, IE 8, Adobe Reader X and HP Laserjet 4000 printer.
Sometimes when I print email PDF attachments from Office Outlook 2003, the attachments start printing in English and then subsequent pages turn into an oriental language (not sure which one). If I view the attachment prior to printing all the pages are clearly in English. Other times if I print the item and it is okay (in English), if I reprint it, it may start in English and then goes to the other language.
I have not incurred anything like this in any other printing program that I use such as Word or Excel.
I have no idea why this is happenning. Any ideas what causes this and if so how to correct this?

    Solved it!
    1-go to "edit", select Preferences.
2-select from the left pane: Security (enhanced)
3-click on "add folder path" button just below the big white box
4-pick a folder of your choice and click "ok". (your selected folder path will appear in that white box above the "add folder path" button in step 3)
5-if you want to add additional folders, just repeat steps 3 & 4
6-once you are done, click "ok" on the preferences screen and click "ok" again to accept the changes.
Yes, it seems illogical, but it worked.
I tested by closing the Reader (X), then surfed the web and did what Neher5 was explaining he/she wanted to do just after opening a pdf from a website and lo-and-behold,  it worked!. No more "save to temp folder" issues.
    Hope this helps.

  • Ipad email pdf attachments

I have set up my email account on the ipad and can access emails but cannot seem to open the attachments. They are of varying size but one example is a 5KB pdf attachment. I have clicked on the document but nothing happens? any help please

If they don't have digital rights management on them then you should be able to open them. If they are large PDFs you may have to wait a little while for them to finish downloading.
If they still don't open then you could try closing the Mail app completely and then re-open and see if you can then open them : from the home screen (i.e. not with Mail 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Mail app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
Another option is a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • Can the default email client on iPad download email with attachments?

I have configured Apple iPad with Exchange 2007. Emails get downloaded without any issues. However the attachments sent along with the emails get downloaded only when you click on them. This can hamper Offline Work. Lets say in airport, we download all emails and then put the iPad in flight mode. When we click on any attachment which has been sent with the email, the attachment shall not open since it has not been downloaded.
Can we configure the Mail Client on iPad to download attachments always? If not, is there any third party app which allows for downloading of email with complete attachments?

It's actually default setting in EAS that seems to be causing this for our end users (Maximum Attachment Size:  500KB - anything larger than this, you have to click download full).  You can customize these default settings for individual users or groups of users on the server side.

    Hi,
Are the PDF files showing with the PDF icon or other icons in your local disk?
Please start Outlook in sate mode and test again. To do this, press Windows key + R to open the Run command, type
    outlook /safe and press Enter.
In addition, you may also try to clean out the Temporary Outlook Files folder to check the result. See:
    http://www.howto-outlook.com/faq/securetemp.htm
Please let me know the result.

  • PDF Attachments in Exchange emails opened in iPad

Would like to know how to consistently make a PDF attachement in an Exchange email shown as an icon; not embedded text in the message body.  We use iPad to open PDF attachments in emails sent from multiple employees.  These attachments are all originally made in Word (Office 2010) on desktops, saved and sent in PDF, and opened in iPad Exchange email accounts.  Some attachments are shown as text embedded in the message body but some others are in an icon at the bottom of the message body.  We would like it to show as an icon and open it with other PDF readers on ipad.  How can we make them to show all in that way?
    Thanks

    Hello,
'''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)''
    * You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * Or open the Help menu and click on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item while Firefox is running.
''Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"''
'''''If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] article for that.
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.''
''When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.''
    Thank you.

  • I have an issue with some PDF documents   some MS Office documents, notably MS Word when received in eMail as attachments not displaying on iPhones, iPad 2s

    Hi,
I have an issue with some PDF documents & some MS Office documents, notably MS Word when received in eMail as attachments not displaying properly on iPhones, iPad 2s & new iPads?
PDF docs - areas of the doc only show as grey splotches regardles of viewer
    MS Word Docs -
inserted graphics don't display at all,
tables & lists especially with borders are broken &
tables & lists missing the borders &
tables & lists missing the 1st 1-2 lines of the lists/tables.
This is replicated on iPhone 4s, iPhone 4Ss, iPad 2s, iPad new (x2)
It certainly happens in iOS 5.1.1 & iOS 5.1
We believe it all worked aok in iOS 5.0.1(?) & prior
There is no problems reading/seeing these PDF & Word docs on anything other than iDevices.
This is rather critical for us & if not quickly fixed/rectified will prevent us from further purchases of these devices
Rolling back to iOS 5.0.1 or prior I believe isn't possible because of the BaseBand update(?) & isn't much of an option because of the quite noticeable Battery/Charging/WiFi improvements in 5.1 & 5.1.1

    Hi,
I logged a call with AppleCare & have since had explained why this occurs (some time ago)
I'll try to explain what was indicated to me.
iOS has a limited Font Set & this affects what PDFs can display. You need to use iOS supported fonts in your PDFs to see/read them properly
These supported fonts are indicated here => http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4980
Regards MS office docs, iOS doesn't have much of an API to work with MS Office documents at all so is stuck with 3rd Party Apps to try to do it.
Unfortunately Mail in/on iOS uses the API to attempt to open/use MS Office attachments unless you tell it to use an App to open the attachment.
I have had success opening & reading MS office docs now with CloudOn, but find it slow & very awkward to use.
Not too sure if this helps others, but at least it explains why this is occurring

  • Pdf attachments do not come through on iCloud mail but they do on other email accounts on same device

I have several email accounts set up that appear on all my devices: iMac, iPhone and iPad.  I use 2 email accounts for work purposes, and good thing I use two. I receive pdf attachments in non-apple email accounts, but the same email sent to my iCloud address comes through minus the attachment and shows only "winmail.dat".  I am using the same device to read the email from the different accounts, but the problem is consistent with all my apple devices. This has to be a setting in iCloud mail but I can not figure it out. Please help.

Basic troubleshooting steps clearly outlined in the User Guide are restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as NEW.
If the basic troubleshooting steps don't work, then you'll need to bring your phone into Apple for evaluation and probable replacement.

  • How do I open email pdf's on iPad and iPhone?

HII have an iPad on Ios7 and an iPhone 4.  I can't open PDF attachments on either device.  When I click I them in the email, it starts to load in Safari with the blue line running across.  The line then disappears and then a blank page appears.
I've tried downloading Adobe from the App Store In order to 'share' by clicking on the icon that is a square with an arrow poking out of the top, however Adobe doesn't appear here when I click on it - just message, mail, twitter and facebook.  There's no option to 'open in' on the bar underneath this (the one with bookmarks, reading list etc).
    can anyone help please?
My mail account is an @me.com on iCloud.
    Thanks.
    Fran.x

    lillylocket,
What is your mail app on your iPad and iPhone?  Typically PDF attachments are opened in the preview screen of Apple Mail.  But it sounds like your PDF attachments are opened in Safari.
Please you take a look at the Safari section of the following FAQ documents to open PDF documents in Adobe Reader for iOS.
For iPad, How to open PDF documents in Adobe Reader for iOS (iPad on iOS 7 or 8 version)
For iPhone, How to open PDF documents in Adobe Reader for iOS (iPhone on iOS 7 or 8 version)
As you have discovered, Safari does not include the "Open In" options for the Share button.
When you tap anywhere in a PDF document in Safari, the secondary toolbar is displayed below the top toolbar.  You need to look for the text label button "Open In..." instead of the Share button.
    Hope this helps.
Please let us know if you have additional questions.

  • How do I get my ipad to recognise my pdf attachments as pdfs?

My ipad does not always recognise a pdf file as as incoming mail attachment, so I cannot always open the pdf in another app.
Although the attachment shows as a paperclip in the mail header, sometimes the content of the attachment is displayed in the body on the email. When this happens I don't get the small square window at the top right corner of the screen where you can select another app to open the pdf.
How do I get my ipad to recognise my pdf attachments as pdfs and not show the content in the body of the mail message?

This is from page 44 of the iPad User Manual:
Open a meeting invitation or attachment: Tap the item. If the attachment can be used by multiple apps, touch and hold to choose an app that works with the file.
Based on this, I suggest trying this:
Touch and hold an area of the PDF file that displays in the body in your email.  Do you get the behavior described in the manual above?

  • Outlook 2010 corrupting incoming pdf attachments for one user

I have one user here that is having incoming pdf attachments get corrupted in Outlook 2010. When she tries to open the file, it gives
the error "Adobe Reader could not open filename.pdf because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded)." I can open the pdf files in her
webmail, and I also installed another mail client which can open the same email attachment fine. It is obviously something about Outlook 2010 that is corrupting the pdf. I have  a comparison of email headers from a good email and a corrupt email, as well
as a comparison of the content of a good pdf file vs a corrupt one. The corrupt pdf is all zero's. Any input on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for looking!

    Hi,
Please try to save the PDF file to local and then double-click to open it if you haven't tried this.
Also make sure the user has installed the latest version of Adobe Reader.
In addition, did the user get the PDF attached email from an online mail interface? If so, please try to send the user an PDF attachment email using Outlook to check the result. Some email providors (especially web email) encode the PDF's for a faster
transfer but when they are received at the other end, they aren't recognized as a PDF so they get corrupted. See:

  • Lion Mail PDF attachments occasionally corrupting

Since upgrading to Lion I've noticed that some PDF attachments won't open in Preview - I get the following:
    =====
The file “1234.pdf” could not be opened.
It may be damaged or use a file format that Preview doesn’t recognize
    =====
This continues to happen even after I drag the attachment to the desktop or rebuild the IMAP inbox.
If I go to the webmail for the email provider, open the mail and download the attchment it is fine - so something in Lion (never had this before in Snow Leopard) seems to be corrupting it.
Anyone able to shed some light on that's going on here?
    Thanks
    Robert

So far I'm seeing this with PDFs. In one email, I had two versions of the same PDF: one was the original, and the other had been highlighted and anotated (probably in Preview). The original opens, and the other gives me problems.
I've used the highlighting feature heavily in Preview, but I've found that it occasionally corrupts the PDF, such that if you copy and paste text (not necessarily the highlighted text), it come out all garbled. I'm wondering if Lion does a better job identifying damaged PDF files (damaged by previous OS versions, perhaps). Haven't been able to look into this very much, but I'm eager to find out what the problem is.

  • Using Pages app, how can I separate a document into individual PDF pages on iPad to email

If you don't have iTunes you will need to buy the song from the iTunes store and download it that way. If it is a custom track you may be out of luck.  The only way to get a song on your device without iTunes involves jailbreaking it.
iOS is set up to prevent people from emailing each other songs, videos, movies, books, etc. This is how Apple got their contracts with the content providers by promising that they would do what ever it takes to prevent people from sharing content that they didn't pay for.
