IPad 2 - first steps???
Searches in Apple Discussions have surfaced many complaints. When my iPad arrives, my plan is to set up as a new device, sync one movie, charge to full battery (assuming that the battery isn't already full), then let the movie play repeatedly until the battery drains completely (I'm hoping movies have the same "loop" options as music), then do a complete restore to factory settings. I figure this will alleviate any "solvable" settings mishaps that would cause problems. I'm fully aware of the basics like brightness, auto dim, wifi auto search, frequent email push downloads, and simultaneously running apps that tend to cause the battery to drain quickly. Are there any other tips or things to check for using your experiences with iPad faults?

I don't have an iPad2. I own the original version which has worked like a dream from day one. The approach that I would take is, take it out of the box, sync to itunes to activate and then use it. Wow ... talk about gloom and doom. I know there have been problems, but why are you expecting the worst? The number of users with issues is still very small to the number of devices sold. Whatever you decide to do, I really wish you all the best. Think positive

IPad IOS 7 Maps Voice only says first step
Using the iPad Maps application, when starting the trip, maps Voice only states the first step in the trip.
It does not do turn by turn, as the trip progresses, it remains silent after the first instruction.
Any suggestions as to why and what I can do to make it do turn-by-turn?
iPad Model MD523X/A
IOS 7.1.2
All apps up to date
Navigation Voice Volume (in Maps) is Loud
Airplane mode is off
Siri enabled
Have a SIM installed on a 1GB mobile Plan.
iPad Model MD523X/A
Cellular data is enabled, both 3G and 4G, the carrier shows and is set at Auto
Maps is enabled in Cellular Data
Wifi is enabled, but that seems pretty pointless when driving down the road when I have a Data SIM installed.Do a reset see below.

My iPad (first generation iOS5.1.1.1) quit connecting to my home WiFi recently after years of being able to. All other devices in my home connect fine. I have taken every step I can find to try and remedy things including restoring my iPad to factory settings. Still nothing - when it tries to connect to my network it just spins. I took my iPad to work and it connected to the WiFi there just fine. Came back home, no good. After talking with my local Mac supplier they've suggested that maybe my router is the cause. I've unplugged it several times for lengths of up to an hour but that still isn't getting things working again. Any ideas?
Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
• Launch Settings app
• Tap on Wi-Fi
• Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
• In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

I am stymied at the first step of trying to update my IPad software, as there is no "Software Update" choice visible in General Settings. And I can't find it anywhere else, either. Ideas?
Settings>General>Software Update is only available on iPad with IOS 5 and above.
If you are using IOS 4, you need to connect to iTune (computer) to update software.

i forgot my passcode for the ipad and i can't connect to iTunes because it keeps giving me error message that i have to unlcok the ipad first... any advice on how to restore the ipad or unlock it?
You have to restore the device within iTunes. You want to use the same computer that you always sync with so that you can restore your app data and settings. You can restore with any other computer, but you will lose everything on the iPad.
This will tell you how to restore
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
You will probably need to use recovery mode

I am haveing trouble with the calandar view on an iPad first gen. the month of March will not display , no matter how it is asked for the device drops out of calandar and defaults to the home screen. all other months display. Any fix suggestions welcome.
Try removing any all-day events from the calendar for the 1st April 2013 e.g. if you are syncing the calendar from somewhere else (e.g. Outlook on a PC or iCal/Calendar on a Mac) then change it to a timed event instead of all-day (if you don't sync your calendar from anywhere then try going into list view, go to 1st April and change any 'all day' events to times e.g. change Easter Monday to start at something like 4am) - it seems that there is a problem with all day events on that date which is when the clocks change due to daylight saving on the day before.

Is there a way to remove all email at once on iPad first generation?
Is there a way to remove all email at once on iPad first generation?
Issue does not apply to just first gen iPads, but all iOS devices. The only place in the native mail app that permits deleting en mass is the trash folder. In all other folders you must tap each message to select it before deleting. There may be alternate mail apps that include this function in the app store, but I have yet to find one.

How to skip first step in a FPM roadmap?
Hello, Our client wants the first step disabled/not displayed in a standard roadmap that has been delivered with the software. The standard roadmap uses component FPM_GAF_COMPONENT and consists of 4 steps (and is based on an application config and component config). They want to directly display the second step with certain values in the second screen pre-populated from a custom application (the second screen would in normaly flow be populated from first screen). So I have two tasks:
1) disable first screen/step
2) populate second screen/step with data from custom application
This is my first exposure to FPM and roadmaps. I tried deleting the first step from the component configuration and making the current 3 step process into a 3 step process, but this does not work and did not seem to be the way to go. On looking around I see some documentation for methods HIDE_MAINSTEP to be used thru IF_FPM_GAF interface, but am not sure where to implement this interface or what code to use in the method.
Can anyone provide step by step suggestions and examples of codes please?
Thanks,
ZackThanks Harish.
I was able to get to the HIDE_MAINSTEP method. However, when I try to hide step 1, which is my requirement, there is a short dump. If I hide step 2 or 3 out of the 4 step process, the sequence of screens is showing up appropriately. However, when I hide step 1, there seems to be some problem in mehod WDDOMODIFYVIEW of view CNR_VIEW of component FPM_GAF_COMPONENT where in a loop for the first loop pass, even though step 1 is hidden, the code is trying to access the road_map_step element which is not instantiated. We have opened a note for this issue.

IPad first gen 3g, battery died, wont start
I have been happily using my iPad first gen since i got it when the iPad 3g launched. Every night i would put it on the charger, but recently i went back vacation and didnt charge it for a week. When i got home my iPad was dead, so i placed it on the charger. It shows the charger connecting, the symbol on the face turns to the lightning bolt with a flashing red empty battery. After sitting like this for four hours, it still refuses to boot up. This is the exact same charger i have used for years, and i have tried pressing the home and lock button to force a restart (after about 6 seconds it just turns off). No idea whats wrong, hoping he isnt dead because i cannot afford a new one =(
Check that your cable is in good working order and that you are using the appropriate charger. The iPad required a 10W charger, not the 5W that comes with an iPhone. Most other third-party chargers not SPECIFICALLY stated to be for iPad will charge, but very slowly.
Also, you should;t let the battery drain completely before charging it. You can do that maybe once per month, but repeatedly doing this is not good for Li-ion batteries. Follow Apple's recommendations for battery care and you should be ok. https://www.apple.com/batteries/ipad.html -
IPad first gen not turning on!
Hello, please help me!! My iPad first gen isn't turning on!! It's just a black screen. Tried resetting it and tried dfu mode but nothing!! When I plug it in to charge then the screen keeps flashing on and off, no apple logo just a black screen lighting up and switching off immediately and looping again. When I plug it out of charge then its completely unresponsive!! Not even lighting up!! Tried whacking it near the headphone jack but still not working... Is there a problem with the battery? Or the screen. I've never dropped it ever. Itunes doesn't recognise it at all. Do I have to replace the battery or something? I really need help so please help me!! I'm going crazy!!
thank you soo muchI went to to apple to fix it and they said it's the batteries problem so they did something and now instead of a black screen it has an apple logo!! It's progress!! But they said the battery is gone bad so I have to change it but apple is not allowed to do that so I'm guessing I have to do it myself... Oh well, thank you for your help!!

Long story about what happened but basically I was using the iPad (first generation without retina display) to watch TV at one point it had 20% battery so I plugged it in then it wasn't charging and I didn't realize so it got to 5% and shut off. I plugged it in to charge it but it just kept shutting down and showing the apple logo, then briefly showing me my home screen before shutting off again. I waited a while to see if it would charge, while it continued to turn off and on by itself. Finally, I unplugged it to see if it had gotten any charge but it just told me to plug it in again. I plugged it into a different charger, same thing. I decided to try connecting it to a computer and it stopped turning on but it did not seem to charge. I tried restoring it as it said in the article. It worked until it got to restoring the iPad from the backup that I had because it immediately shutdown before I could continue. I tried to restore it a second time but still it shut down! I'm so frusturated and I cannot afford to get a new iPad, I need it for school and there is no Apple store for 80 miles nor do I have any insurance or warranty on it! (Obviously considering it's the first iPad to ever come out.) I really don't know what to do! HELP

I am not allowed to sign in with my Apple ID on iTunes Connect when I am trying to publish my book in iBooks Author. I do not understand why because I have fulfilled the first steps creating an account and informed my IRS tax number...
The recommendation is always to make another ID for use with a paid books account. And while I can't swear this is at the root of your issue, you should in any case reach out to Apple for assistance on this one, I think.

I can't find app for iPad first generation! Why ?
I Had an iPad first generation and I can't find app under iOS 5.......why And sometime m'y IPad close alone.
Apple requirements now ask to make them for iOS 7 and above. iPad 1 has become outdated and there are barely, if any, apps available for this device.
If your iPad restarts on it's own, try restoring to factory settings.

QT 7.2 & iPhone - First Step to Ringtones?
The new QT 7.2 has an export to iPhone and iPhone cellular.
It only shows as "Movie", but exports "audio only" files also.
Could this be the first step in giving us personalized ringtones?
Maybe, unfortunately we'll need to wait and see
ajmThis is very interesting. I just downloaded QT 7.2 because of your post. There are obviously two options, export to iPhone and export to iPhone (cellular). I tried both of them. Export to iPhone appears to convert the movie into mp4 format with little change to the file size. On the other hand, export to iPhone (cellular) reduces the file size to 1/10 of the original size. I am not sure how one can use the latter option. Does anyone have any clue?
