IPad 2 iBook freeze problems

Hi. I just received my iPad 2. I downloaded my iBook app on my iPad and my girlfriends and we are both having problems with it freezing when we are in the library store looking for new books. I have to turn my whole iPad off to fix the problem. Any ideas on how to fix this? Also if I delete my app and reinstall will I still have all the books that I have purchased already or will I lose them?

Hi,
If you are both using the same Wi Fi connection, tap Settings / General / Reset / Reset Network Settings.
Restart the iPads, try the iBooks store.
You can try deleting the iBook app to see if that helps. Your iBook content is stored in iTunes so even if you delete the app, your books will not be deleted.
You can see your Books/PDF's etc in the iTunes window on the left under Library / Books.
If you haven't done so, create back up your iPad(s) follow the instructions at this link.

    I have a 64GB iPad Air WiFi+Cellular (Verizon), and I don't see the issues you are describing.  First I would suggest that you update your iPad to the newest iOS update.  If that doesn't help, then you may want to schedule an appointment at an Apple Genius Bar.  If you go this route, I suggest that you let the iPad sleep for long enough for the problem to arise before you go to your appointment.

  • IBook freeze

    I have a problem with my ibook freezing that started a few days ago; it began by freezing at the blue screen (prior to the login window), and now will variously freeze at black screen, grey screen, apple logo, or on rare occasion make it to the desktop.
    The particulars:
    ibook G4 800 with 512 additional RAM, Airport, 60 G HD (new)
    I have done fsck (no reported issues), Disk repair utility- repair permissions, repair disk, Hardware test (no reported issues, but I couldn't do the loop test due to freezing) Disk Warrior, I installed a new hard drive with a clean install of OSX (I installed 10.3), (no effect), and have tried starup with and without the removeable RAM and Airport installed (no difference).
    I'm out of ideas, but am beginning to think that the problem may be with the fixed RAM; however I can't run the ibook long enough to get a good test without freeze up. One additional note: the problem seems to get progresively worse the longer the ibook has been on, i.e. it gets further into startup say, if it has rested overnight.
    Anyone have thoughts on this? Also, if it is the fixed RAM, does that mean a new logic board?

    I hate to add on to everyone else but the same thing has happened to me. It stalls on the opening grey screen with the swirling circle, then after about 15 mins or so it goes to an empty blue screen with mouse capabilities(meaning I see the mouse arrow, and can be moved). Im kind of runnin the same specs as the first poster. I really don't want to get have my wallet raped over getting this laptop fixed. Is there any help for us?

    iTunes is synching PDFs into its books section (I can confirm the latest file times) but not passing the updated PDF to iPad iBooks during syncs (the file is selected for sync).  How do I get iTunes to sync the latest PDF to iPad without manually deselecting and then reselecting to force a sync?

    The problem here is that iTunes wants to make sure that the songs that were purchased are sent to the same device that purchased them.  In this case, you would need to authorize your computer first.   This is as easy as opening iTunes, find "store" in the upper status bar, and select Authorize This Computer.   A dialogue will pop up asking for your iTunes ID and your password.  Enter the ID you purchased the songs with.  Afterwords, you should be able to sync the songs.

    I created an iBook for a client, but some of the default functions of an iBook aren’t working when it’s previewed on iPad. My question is: since the file format seems to be the issue, what can be done to alleviate it?
    Problems
    When previewing the iBook on the iPad...
    Framing features such as navigation bar, book info, bookmark tool, etc. are missing
    The pages lack animated page turns
    Right and left page edge riffles are missing
    When the iPad is turned vertically…
    Pages scroll top to bottom instead of left to right as they should
    All images disappear
    Basically, the iBooks works mostly well in landscape mode but not so much in portrait mode. The client checked other iBooks to compare and the iBook I created is the only one with problems with the interface functions.
    Steps Taken To Save & Preview File
    Saved the iBook file as an IBA file. I also Exported it as an iBooks file.
    Sent IBA and iBooks files to the client to preview on his iPad (I don’t have one so I can’t preview it myself).
    The client opened the IBA file using iBooks Author then clicked the “Preview” button.
    The IBA file cross-loads to the iPad and the problems can be seen.
    The client also attempted to load the IBA and iBooks files on the Book Proofer application (this application does accept IBA and iBooks files), but that didn't work either. The client told me that are some file format issues unrelated to content, leading me to believe that it's a format issue.
    Technical Specifications
    iBook Author version I used to create iBook
    1.1 (the latest)
    iBooks version client used to preview iBook
    iBooks version 2.1.1 (April 16, 2012 release)
    iPad version the iBook is being previewed on
    1st Generation 64GB iPad
    File being used to preview on iPad
    The IBA and iBooks files for the iBook
    Could it be file format incompatibilities? Has anyone had this issue before? I hope the information I provided is useful. Any insight about these issues is greatly appreciated!

    Again, sorry, a 'Shared' .ibooks file has the same format as what users download from the store.
    You don't need to be in the store to circulate that file. 'private' as defined depends on you. Email that file if possible and/or put it on your own server/dropbox and share the link to trusted individuals.
    If you're sending the .iba file to someone that then uses it in iBA, they need to use the 'Shared' menu to generate an .ibooks file, then drop that into iTunes and sync to their device.

  • IBook G4 problems

    Two years ago I bought an iBook G4. Like a complete idiot I didn't buy the AppleCare Plan. I didn't think we would use it as often as we do. I did use a credit card to buy it, however, which extended the warranty on extra year.
    In the first year the black lettering started wearing off the keyboard. Apple replaced it. Into my second year the Firewire port stopped working and the black lettering started wearing off the new keyboard. I though I would just have to live with the problem when my credit card company called and reminded me of the warranty extension. I was told that the Firewire port was wired directly to the motherboard and I might as well get a new computer. Extended warranty in hand I visited my local Apple Store believing I would get a new computer out of all of this. To my surprise Apple fixed the motherboard and replaced the keyboard for just over $300. No explanation why the repair was so cheap.
    Now my iBook freezes, shuts down without warning and requires a complete power disconnect to restart, and the sometimes the screen go black. Three different power cords have problems keeping connected and the charge icon switches between battery/plug/charge and causes the screen to flicker. The Apple store couldn't duplicated the problems in the brief 5 minutes they looked at it. Now I read that the iBook has motherboard problems. I'll bet my keyboard issue is not uncommon as well.
    Any thoughts?

    ately, although i recently have had both the logic board and hard drive replaced, my ibook g4 has been crashing when i leave it sleeping. it is unresponsive and i have to manually turn off the computer. when i try to restart a gray screen with a flashing file/question mark appears. i have to manually turn it off and on again and/or leave it to rest for a while before it will work again. i have re-installed/archived following the advice of the local genius bar guy, but that hasn't seemed to help as it continues to crash when i leave it sleeping. also, it has happened a few times recently that the computer just shuts off in the middle of an application session, and will not respond at all to pressing the power button. i thought for sure that my computer was dead the first time it did this, but after leaving it a few hours it responded to pressing the power button. luckily i have everything backed up, but my applecare runs out in a few months and i am afraid that i will be left with a non-functional ibook. can anyone advise me on this, or should i petition apple to replace my ibook?

    just regular FireWire cable (6-6 pin) - when you use target mode, computer acts as if it was external hard drive and supposed to show up on another Mac's desktop as a drive - you could use Disk Utility on another Mac and format the PowerBoook.
    if there is some hardware problem though, sometimes target mode won't work.
    also, maybe try some other OS disc just in case your OS CD is defective somehow.

    I recommend two things before taking your iPad back to the Apple Store.
    1.  Fully close safari, by going to your home screen, then double tapping your home button to bring up your most recently used Apps.  Using your finger, hold it on any of the used Apps until they jiggle.  At this point, you'll see a to the top left of each App.  Touch the sign on Safari, which will fully close it.
    Then.......
    2.  Reboot your iPad.  Press and hold BOTH the power and home buttons at the SAME time for at least 10 seconds (hold past the red slider to shut down) until the Apple Logo appears, then let go of both buttons and your iPad will restart.  You won't lose any settings or data.
    If that does not help, then make an appointment at the Apple store to have your iPad checked.

    Email when sent from Mail, goes out fine with and without the picture attachments. Our attachments are only about 30 KB while we think our attachment limit is around 10-25 MB.
    The problem is sending pics via email starting from the Photos icon.
    I have had long discussions with Apple and so far they have recommended, reboot, empty the Outbox (which had accumulated 50 unsent emails), all done but to no lasting effect. We did think emptying the Outbox solved it, but the problem came back next morning. Apple have also recommended adding an email account, (other accounts work occasionally,) and backing up the data and setting up my device as a new device. I am reluctant to try this as it sound pretty drastic.

    Thank you for providing the details of the issue you are experiencing with your iPhone.  It is definitely inconvenient and frustrating when you are not able to access your iPhone.
    I recommend following these steps for an issue like this (you can skip 4 because it does not relate to the issue you are experiencing):
    If a single application is not responding or stops responding when it opens, you can force it to close.
    If the device is unresponsive or if certain controls aren't working as expected, restart your device.
    If the device remains unresponsive or does not turn on (or power on),reset your device.
    If there is no video or if the screen remains black, verify that the device has enough charge to turn on:
    If you are using an iPad, ensure that it's connected to the USB Power Adapter supplied with the device.
    Let charge for at least twenty minutes, then see if it starts normally.
    If there is no image on the screen, press the Sleep/Wake button to attempt to wake the device.
    If the screen displays a red battery icon, continue charging the device until the battery is fully charged.
    If the above steps do not resolve the issue, or the if the screen remains black or shows a persistent Apple logo, try restoring with iTunes:
    Connect the device to your computer and open iTunes.
    If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane. Learn more about restoring iOS software.
    If the device doesn't appear in iTunes, try to force the device into recovery mode, and then restore it.
    If the above steps do not resolve the issue, contact Apple.

    hi there.
    our iBook freezes whenever we send something to print. the icon for the printer never shows up in the icon bar and there is no reaction from the printer, but when the computer is restarted, the printer spits out whatever was being printed.
    this happens no matter how many applications are open, and even when the printer's usb cable is plugged directly into the computer (our normal set-up has the printer's usb plugged into a usb hub that houses a couple other peripherals.)
    any ideas?

    Are you trying to download items simultaneously? If so, you may be taxing the RAM on the iPad. You mention apps download fine as long as you are not trying to download any other content at the same time. I would suggest one download at a time if the iPad is freezing when you perform simlutaneous downloads.
    If you insist on continuing that way - and it is your choice to do so - you may want to close any open apps and restart the iPad on occasion if you want to download this way.
