IPAD 2 -iOS 8 - speed issue

Since iOS 8, my old iPad2 (March 2010) runs noticeably more slowly. However, my other devices that also run on iOS 8, iPad mini and iPhone not affected. Anyone else experiencing this issue, please and if so, any ideas?

If you would like to get your iPad back to normal and working fine under iOS 8.0.2 ... the following is something that has helpe quite a few here on these forums.
There are many users here on this forum who have had some initial problems, and have been able to get their iPads working normally again. I can give you one such solution that seems to work in many cases. With the large majority of users, on the other hand, they have never had any major problems with iOS 8.0.2 (as is the case with me). And in saying that, I'm not talking about some minor glitches, which are small bugs that Apple will fix, but I'm talking about the entire iPad being unusable, as some have reported. There's no way your iPad should be unusable and it doesn't have to be, with the success other people are having.
As I said, there have been many users that have gotten their iPads back to normal from resetting it back to factory default condition. That's what I've been posting in order to help a lot of people here. For anyone else reading this, here are the Apple Support Links for backup and then ... for setting it back to factory default, below.
ALSO ... do know that some people have restored their backups and found out that things slowed down again, which means there is something in the backup that is causing trouble. And many times that could be an app or two that is troublesome. I read the other day that another user had Apple run their special diagnostic software on his iPad and Apple found one particular app that was very bad (causing slowdowns and interaction problems). So, they told him to get rid of the app. When he did, everything returned to normal. So, do realize that even though resetting to factory default helps many people (and it should be done every year anyway, I say ...) that there could be other apps which could cause the trouble, too. And then, as many have reported here, clearing the setting helps at times, too. I've had to clear my network settings a few times, when Safari seemed to be "hanging". And when that happens, it solves that problem. Anyway, there is not just one particular solution that helps for all, but the resetting back to factory default is something everyone should do anyway ... and ... be sure to do your backups, too.

SOLVED:  IOS 8 Issues on iPad 2:
I just returned home from a visit to the Genius Bar. Like you and many others, when I upgraded my iPad 2 to IOS 8, it became practically unusable. It was VERY slow, lagged whenever trying to to do anything. Lots of screen freezes and apps spontaneously crashing. I was convinced that the processor on the iPad 2 just couldn't handle the new IOS and I went in to see about restoring to IOS 7.
Thankfully, I was hooked up with a very sharp guy at the bar. The problem is not with the OS, it is with it being an *upgraded* OS. He used the analogy of when you had an older Windows computer and how over time (and over upgrades), they just tended to get slower and slower because of all of the garbage that was carried forward in the upgrades. At those times (and if you've ever had a Windows computer, you get this), the only thing that would speed it up would be to wipe the machine and do a fresh install of the current OS and then reload your apps, and the viola, everything would be fast again. Well, it turns out that IOS can suffer the same problems.
THE FIX:  FIRST, be sure you have a current iCloud backup of your device.  Connect your iPad to a computer that has a clean fresh copy of IOS 8 on iTunes (this is best done with a computer other than the one that you sync your device to because you DO NOT want to restore it from a back up just yet). Ideally, if you do this at an Apple store you'll be assured of the right version there and someone to answer any questions you might have along the way. You then hold the power and home button down to hard-reset the device and continue to hold them down until it reboots into recovery mode. You then follow the instructions on the computer to reinstall the OS on the device (which wipes everything from it and then reinstalls a clean copy of it). Once this is done (which only takes about 15 minutes), your device will reboot and ask you to set it up. Answer the questions about language, location, etc. and continue until it asks you to log into your iTunes account. Once you do that, it will ask if you want to either 1) Set it up as a new device, 2) Restore from iCloud, or 3) Restore from iTunes. Choose (2), restore from iCloud. This will ensure that it brings down "clean" copies of all of your apps and preferences rather than the potentially corrupted ones that might reside in your iTunes backup. That's it! It will take a few hours depending on how much data and apps you have, but I am happy to report that my iPad 2 is now running IOS 8 and it's running as fast as it ever did when it was brand new!
To sum it up, this process 1) Wipes your device and the garbage causing your problems, 2) Loads a clean and bug-free version of IOS 8 to your device, and 3) restores your apps and data so that it looks just like it did before the wipe, with the exception that it works now!  :-)
Note also that by following this process you don't have to go through the painful and laborious process of reloading all of your apps, data and/or settings. iCloud takes care of all of that for you.

  • IPad Mini IOS 8 upgrade issue

Last Night i connected my IPad mini to my PC to sync it with ITune. I got message for IOS 8 upgrade. So i decided to Upgrade it to IOS 8. And i selected "Download and Update" option on ITune. I got the IOS 8 downloaded but while installing it, it deleted the previous IOS 7 and then gave a error message. Then I found that my IPad lost the OS.
Now I am trying to Restore my IPad to factory setting via ITune, But its failing.
    Don't know what to do.
Can any one gave me any suggestion to resolve it ??

    FORCE IPAD INTO RECOVERY MODE
    1. Turn off iPad
    2. Turn on computer and launch iTunes (make sure you have the latest version of iTune)
    3. Plug USB cable into computer's USB port
    4. Hold Home button down and plug the other end of cable into docking port.
DO NOT RELEASE BUTTON until you see picture of iTunes and plug
    5. Release Home button.
    ON COMPUTER
    6. iTunes has detected iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes.
    7. Select "Restore iPad"...
    Note:
    1. Data will be lost if you do not have backup
    2. You must follow step 1 to step 4 VERY CLOSELY.
    3. Repeat the process if necessary.

  • IPad Air WiFi ultra slow speed issues

Having very bad WiFi streaming and general web page loading with new iPad Air, far slower than iPad Gen 1 (iOS 5) and iPhone (iOS 7).
Speed test results using same speed test app all devices pointed to same Clifton NJ server.
    Download speeds:
    iPad Air: .26 Mbps
    iPhone 5: 12 Mbps
    iPad 1: 11 Mbps
Mac Pro: 33 Mbps (Ethernet Cat 6 wired) yes I know WiFi is slower, not .26 vs 33 slower
    My network:
    Motorola SB 6141 Cable modem
All Ethernet wires are Cat 6
D-LINK DIR-655 gigabit router, WiFi should be minimum 100 or 150 Mbps (2.4 only)
Obstructions: very open modern apartment with good physical open shot to router. Bedroom wall vs router. Router is on 45 degree angle 30 feet from devices. Keep in mind that regardless of wall interference, all tests above were done with iDevices in exact same spot from bedroom to test wall interaction.
Result: iPad Air is usually not able to stream anything continuously or in HD ever. Some vid signals are amazingly pixelated to where movie credits are unreadable. So I use my iPad 1 instead for perfect viewing. Something's very wrong.
I assume the router can't differentiate between, however, AppleCare today surmised since I have 2 WiFi devices way out performing the iPad Air, it "may" be it's newer firmware being incompatible with my router, which logically would make sense to account for diff between it and a legacy iPad and modern iPhone.
Some of you online are true network geniuses so I wanted to hear your input for me and others with new iPad Air HD high speed expectations and what configurations to make in Settings and should a new Router be considered 1) because they are faster anyway and 2) if there is an iPad firmware issue with older even still working well routers like the DIR 655.
PS: in comparing configurations between devices, I see the iPad Air under Settings > WiFi > HTTP Proxy > (off, manual or auto)
Is HTTP Proxy an important setting to get max performance. I need to search and read up on it. Setting to Auto did increase dwnld speed from .26 to 9 Mbps.
    Thanks.

You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

  • Why is my iPad's Wi-Fi speed turning into a snail after updating to iOS 6?!

Before updating my 3rd gen. iPad to iOS 6, my iPad's Wi-Fi speed was snappy. After updating to iOS 6, it became a snail.
To prove it, I loaded a web page on my iPad running iOS 6. At the same time, I loaded the same web page on my iPhone 4S running iOS 5.1.1. The iPhone loaded the page first and was able to load a second one until the iPad finished loading. Both devices were on the same Wi-Fi network.
I tested both devices again using the Speedtest.net app. The iPhone, again, came out on top with lower ping and faster data speeds. In contrast, the iPad suddenly stopped testing while the app was testing it's ping.
Apple, if you're reading this, please fix this in iOS 6.0.1!!

    Go back to the PC.

  • IPad 2....iOS 5 upgrade issues

After hearing the exciting news that iOS 5 was released yesterday, I was quickly saddened by the following issues I have.
I plugged my iPad 2 into my Macbook, and tried to upgrade to iOS 5. It said i need the latest version of iTunes and Lion. So i ran a system update, got iTunes 10.5, and the latest Lion update (don't remember the numbers..). I then got prompted to download and install the latest iPad software update (iOS 5).
I downloaded it, and then it began to do a backup. After the backup, i got an error message saying that "the device is not eligible for the requested build".
    What did  do wrong?
Macbook 4 GB RAM, Intel Core 2 Duo, 160GB, Lion
    White iPad 2, iOS 4.3.3

Maybe you should try re-downloading it.

Dear all,  I'm using Ipad 2, IOS 4.3.3, currently trying to update to IOS 5.0.1 (latest version is IOS 5.1 but I just want to update to 5.0.1).
I already have Itunes up-to-date Itunes 10.6.1 but Itunes keep prompting me error : unknown error (3194).
Is it due to the release of IOS 5.1 which blocks all previous updates?

  • HT5642 WiFi speed issues with iPhone 4S since the update

Since the update the WiFi on the iPhone is terrible. I run a 50mb speed and barley get 2mb. My iPad is getting 39mb speed. Is there a problem with this update for the iPhone that affects WiFi speed?

I am having the same issue since updating to iOS 6.  It has been noticeable on my iPhone 4S and a little less noticeable on my iPad 3 but I think it is happening on the iPad too.  Very annoying problem.  One way to get it to work better is to re-boot your phone.  It will work for awhile then and then eventually not be working anymore and you will need to re-boot again.
Just to be clear with everyone - the iPhone looks like it is connected to the wireless, it gets an IP address but can't transmit any data.  Device:  iPhone 4S, OS:  iOS6

  • In the mail app why can't I see single page pdf attachment created by SSRS R2 on iPad with iOS 8?

We have reports that are generated using Sql Server Reporting Services 2008 R2 and are distributed to users by email as a PDF attachment.  This worked fine in iOS 7 but ever since users have updated to iOS 8 the single page PDF is missing even though it has the paper clip icon indicating there is an attachment with the email.  If the PDF is multiple pages then the PDF icon would appear but there seems to be a problem with the single page pdf that is embedded on the mail app in iOS 8.
We've recreated this issue creating a test report and sent it to iPads that have iOS 7, iOS 8 using different models of iPads (2, 3, 4) and the ones that have iOS 7 work fine.  Only the ones that have iOS 8 have this issue.  Also tried changing the format of the file to a PNG, TIFF and again the same results on the iPads with iOS 7 display it correctly.  Another test we did was send the PDF to our personal email and open it on our home iPads we were not able to see the single page PDF on iOS 8.  Looking at the headers of the email I can see the that the Content-Type is multipart/mixed.  When the original is forwarded to oneself on the iPad the attachment is included but the Content-Type is application/ms-tnef.

Can you check your email headers, I have also noticed this for reports that are generated using Sql Server Reporting Services 2008 R2. It could to be due to the Content-ID header I believe.
As a single page attachment on iPad will try and display inline, the Content_ID header is possibly affecting this and showing a small blank square as the image instead. Although this isn't defined as inline within the Content-Disposition header and will appear as an attachment on Outlook.

  • Why do podcasts update more quickly on my ipad with iOS 6.1.3 than on my iPhone 5s with 7.0.4?

I subscribe to a few daily podcasts (Dan Patrick Show and The Tony Kornheiser Show). They will auto download on my iPad running iOS 6 without any issues. But my iPhone 5s running 7 will not recognize the new shows for hours or days after they have been on my iPad.
Anyone else run into this problem? This is why I am loathe to update my iPad.

Could I trade it in for an iPad mini with iOS 6.
That would depend on two things:
    1) Finding an iPad that had iOS6 pre-installed
    2) Whether the store would accept your iPad as trade in. Most won't.
