IPad 2 & Keyboard Dock Compatibility?

I bought a White iPad 2 on Day 1 (March 11th) and have loved it. I very rarely complain about Apple products so this topic is somewhat out-of-character for me. When I bought iPad 1 in 2010, I bought the Keyboard Dock the same day. I found that I truly used the keyboard dock often and came to enjoy it a lot. Sadly, when I bought iPad 2, I realized it simply was not compatible with my keyboard dock. I understand the iPad 2 is thinner so naturally it wouldn't be compatible, but is there something I'm (hopefully) missing? Is there any kind of dock adapter or work-around to this compatibility issue? I used the keyboard dock so much in my college classes and now for it to just be unusable is honestly a little frustrating. Thanks for any help in advance!

If you think the iPad may break when you drop it or you have broken any device in the past, hard ipad cases are for you because they provide protection against the impact that a fall can cause while keeping the device working well. The ipad 2 keyboard case offers full protection for the entire device and a strap holds the iPad in place.

  • Miix 3 Keyboard dock compatibility

When the miix 3 was announced it showed a solid kyeboard dock like the Miix 2 one, which had 2 usb ports.
Now when i bought it i got it with the folio case which has no extra USB ports. Meaning that i either dont have usb ports when charging or have to use some dodgy quality usb otg hub to charge and use the USB ports at the same time.
    Now my question are
    1) is there such a dock as was shown when the miix 3 was first shown or did it stay on the drawing board?
    2) is the MiiX 2 dock pin compatible with the MiiX 3 dock connector so the MiiX 2 dock could be used
    3) if the answer to 2 is yes, where can i buy the MiiX 2 dock on its own ?
    Thank you in advance.

I updated my iPad 1 to IOS 5 last week, and it works fine with the Apple Keyboard Dock.
However, to make it work for me, I had to put the Keyboard Dock on an incline plane. Once I found the appropriate angle of the incline, then I had to cut a piece of wood with that same angle, paint it white, and glue the Keyboard Dock to the piece of wood.
As a result, I no longer have to insert a pad or ruler between the iPad and the Dock. The iPad now leans forward to the correct angle.
The raised angle also helps me type better due to the tilt.
Hope this works for you too.

  • My iPad keyboard dock no longer works.  Any suggestions on what I can do to bring it back?

I've had the keyboard / docking station / stand for over a year now and it has never given me any problems.  A kid was touching a bunch of keys the other day and I'm not sure if it froze or has a shutdown mode or what...but it literally stopped working.  It recognizes the iPad when I place it on the pins, but NONE of the keys work.
    Help!!

    Hi there BuffaloSailor!

  • Lightning to 30-pin Adapter works great with iPad Keyboard Dock

In case anyone was wondering, the Lightnng to 30-pin Adapter works great with the original iPad Keyboard Dock and an iPhone 5. In fact it is better than the 4S was, as that tended to pop out. The Lightning adapter stays in place, and there is plenty of support in the back plastic to keep the iPhone in place, with any tiny stress happening at the Dock connector end: the Lightning connector itself seems very solid indeed. All the keys work, and charging is fine.
(In answer to the implicit question: my employer blocks email at work on its systems, and it's convenient to have the keyboard hold the phone in place, and also charge it, which is the problem with the Bluetooth keyboard.)

Might be a question better asked of the manufacturer of the iHome device.

  • New ipad to 30-pin keyboard dock. any way use correctly?

The iPad keyboard dock we were using with our 30-pin iPad now seems to be essentially worthless with the lightning connector unless someone has an inspiration. Using an adapter raises the iPad enough to limit the support provided by the dock and likely would result in something breaking.
    I would like some ideas.

Use the 30pin to lightning connector cable, works great and there is no support issue.

  • Has anyone tried using their keyboard dock on iPad 2?

I'm trying mine out as I write ... it seems to be fine?? Anyone? Anyone?!

Im using the Apple keyboard dock with the iPad 2 right now. Initial thoughts/concerns:
    - the iPad seems to want to tip over and out of the dock when using on lap
    - some shortcuts (like command+arrows to navigate back/forth on safari, etc) don't work while other do (such as command+c, v, x--the standard ones). My guess is that this limitation was intentional so iPad users don't replace their laptops.

  • IPad keyboard dock doesn't work - how to get repair?

After a couple of days it just stopped working. It seems to dock still, but none of the keys work. Tried several times, but every key is completely unresponsive. I couldn't find a way online to report the problem (automated help asks for HW serial number, but the keyboard docks don't seem to have those). Do I bring the dock back to the store where I bought it to arrange for repair?

I'm on my second keyboard, as the connector tab in the keyboard is weak, and gives up the ghost very quickly. Went to Apple Store for replacement, and it was free. You are right there is no serial number on the keyboards, so they just take the old one and give you a new one.
None of them will last very long until they change the design of the keyboard dock, and add a landscape mode connector to the side of the iPad. Putting it in the stand in the portrait mode puts too much leverage/stress on the connector tab in the keyboard itself, so it fails . . .

  • The iPad keyboard dock, will it work with the 3gs/iPhone 4 when iOS 4?

    When iOS 4 comes out?
I don't know wether this is considered as speculation or not but it is not intended to be. I want to know wether someone can confirm this or not.
    Thanks.

A more important question you should ask is why you would prefer this to a bluetooth keyboard that will definitely work once iOS 4 is released. The keyboard dock has a limitation of only allowing the device to work in portrait mode. I would find this a little annoying with an iPad and entirely unacceptable with an iPhone. I have used keyboards with Palm and Pocket PC devices before and there are definitely times that you would rather switch to landscape mode.

  • Can I use the ipad keyboard Dock for pairing with a non Apple laptop?

I am thinking of getting the keyboard dock for my IPad 2.
I also have an IBM laptop with blutooth. Can I use the iPad dock as a keyboard for the IBM?
    Thanks

If you're referring to this dock:

it is not a Bluetooth keyboard so can't be used with the laptop.  And the keyboard dock was originally designed for the curved back of the iPad1.  So while it does appear to work with the iPad2, some people report that it's a little loose and sometimes get intermittent disconnections with the connector.
As for Bluetooth keyboards, some can only be paired to one device.  To use with two computers, you may have to un-pair from the first device, the re-pair to the second device.  Some keyboards can "switch" without un-pairing, but you have to research to ensure the model you want will do that.  Depending on your usage, it may be more worthwhile to get separate keyboards.

  • Can the "Apple iPad Keyboard Dock" unlock an iOS device?

I have a iOS device where the touch screen isn't working any more after some water damage, and even replacing the front display doesn't help. It's apparently a problem on the circuitboard that I cannot get fixed.
I only need to be able to unlock it so that I can connect it to iTunes and back it up, so I wonder if this "Apple iPad Keyboard Dock" can be used to unlock the device.
Does someone own this keyboard and could try this? Can you unlock the iPad or iPhone and enter a passcode after pressing the wake button, without having the swipe on the screen?

No.  The iPad Keyboard Dock connects to the iPad through 30 pin connector on the iPad.  Your PC wouldn't have that connector.
Instead, you should just get a USB keyboard, which basic models are often just $20.

  • Ipad keyboard docki

I have problems with my ipad keyboard dock. The signs up the numbers doesn´t work correctly. When I click shift 6 it appears / and not

I am having the same problem. In my calendar, the keyboard is stuck in the on position, keys do not work, and I cannot get it to go down. Can anyone help me troubleshoot this problem?

  • Do i have to charge both the ipad and the keyboard dock?

I bought my 84 year old mother an iPad - which she is loving. I also got her the Apple keyboard dock to make it easier for her to use. Problem is - I had iPad in dock, dock plugged into wall. This morning the iPad is showing a battery strength of only  39%. Do I need to charge both of these separately ... or do I have a real problem? Thanks!

There is no battery in the Dock, it is pass through only. Make sure that you have everything plugged in securely. Also make sure that you are only using the iPad's charger, the iPad needs more current than provided by the charger for an iPhone or iPod.

  • I need a virtual keyboard like the keyboard dock (with numbers and cursor keys) to work properly. Someone know if is it possible? s as an option in my ipad

Why Apple not have a virutal keyboard for the iPad equal at the keyboard dock as option? For my is more easy work whith the same virtual keyboard in the iPad like my Mac.

  • Accessing iPad keyboard dock with iPad in its case

I got the keyboard dock, but it doesn't seem to connect when the iPad is in its official Apple fold-over case. It's a pain to take it in and out of the case and I'm trying to decide if that's a dealbreaker. Surely, Apple thought of that, right???

We have an adapter for this purpose. It extends everything and is even small enough to fit into an iPhone bumper.

  • Apple iPad Keyboard Dock or Apple Wireless Keyboard

I have the iPad 1 (the original one) and I would like to ask if the Apple iPad Keyboard Dock is better than the Apple Wireless Keyboard. Thank you

The keyboard with dock probably doesn't require batteries, but is a bit more bulky. It also doesn't suffer from the key stroke reppppppeat like the BT version does once in a while in some apps. However, I opted for the BT version.
