Ipad 2 - Macbook 10.6.8

I have an older Macbook (Mac OS X version 10.6.8). I want to copy some of my pages and numbers files onto my new Ipad 2.
I can't seem to find a way to do this?
I'm not really up to date with icloud but i can't seem to attach files to this from my mac as it says I don't have an up to date web browser. Can i update this with my older mac?
Ideally I want to copy files onto my actual ipad rather than onto the icloud as I want to be able to view them offline when I don't have web access.
Anyone able to help?

No ability to access Mail on MacBook since 20th.
On Communities; there were a couple dozen similar problems, but only one post (that I saw; it takes a long time to sort through requests for help and then find help, it seems to me) that proposed solutions, which I tried with no result.
Failed to get resolution using Apple Troubleshooting instructions.
Used Chat & was told that I need to upgrade from 10.5.8 to Leopard (free to MobileMe account holders) & then spend $30 for Lion. The theory is that migrating from MobileMe to iCloud with my current OS is preventing mail from synching with MacBook. I don't know why this should suddenly be a problem. (No problems with Mail on iPhone3 or iPad2 or accessing through Safari/iCloud, true, but I migrated to iCloud four months ago.)
So far, three+ hours spent on this issue.
If anyone with this problem actually gets it fixed, I'd appreciated knowing before downlading Leopard & purchasing Lion....

Pages won't sync between iPad and Macbook

I cannot get my pages to sync between iPad and Macbook.
I regularly go back and forth between the two because it's easier to read/edit on iPad and easier to type/copy-paste web info on Macbook.
I'm finding right now that I have done a multitude of edits on my iPad that are not showing up at all when I open the same document on my Macbook.
I have closed the document on my iPad so I expected there to be no problems when I opened it on my Macbook.
Not sure why or what to do....?

I had this issue too - I have been playing around with it for a few days - turns out you need to save the documents on your mac not under "documents" but rather under "Pages - iCloud" (or "Keynote - iCloud" etc.). After doing this, the document appears on my phone, iPad, iCloud.com etc. with the changes.
One way to do this is by clicking the dropdown arrow (it shows up when you mouse over the title) to the right of the title of your document on the grey title bar (the thing at the top of the page - above insert, table, chart etc.) and then editing the "where" column.

Can I connect my iPad and MacBook Pro both via an iPhone hotspot?

First, a little background. I have an aging MacBook Pro (~5 years old), and my netbook was smashed on the way to work last night. My cell phone (not an iPhone) crapped out a few weeks ago.
So my first priority is to replace my netbook with an iPad. When I can afford it, I also want to upgrade to a new MacBook Pro. I've also been thinking of getting an iPhone.
One thing that always confuses me is Internet connections. I currently connect my MacBook Pro to the Internet via Verizon and use T-Mobile for my cell phone.
I was surprised when an Apple salesman told me the iPhone has a "hotspot" that I can use to connect both an iPad and MacBook Pro to the Internet. But an Apple salesman at another store told me the hotspot will connect the iPad.
Can anyone offer some details? I've been browsing some of the other threads, but I still don't really understand what a hotspot is. Am I correct in understanding that as long as I have an iPhone with me, I can use it to connect my iPad to the Internet? Can I similarly use it to connect a MacBook Pro (either my 4-year-old+ model or a new model)?
What kind of connection speed does a hotspot offer? I do a lot of websurfing and web design. Would a hotspot connection be about as fast as my current connection via Verizon?
Also, is the hotspot feature available with either AT&T or Verizon?

Your hotspot will be billed by AT&T or Verizon based on your iPhone's model. Only the iPhone 4 from Verizon would allow a Verizon hotspot. Others have posted information revealing that the Verizon 3G connection is somewhat slower than the AT&T service. Also, the Verizon service suspends the use of hotspot when you take a phone call. The AT&T service continues during calling.
Selecting the hotspot feature under General> Settings> Personal Hotspot will change your data plan from your previous 250MB, 2GB, or unlimited amount to a new 4GB plan that includes tethering. AT&T charges me $45 instead of my Unlimited, but No Tethering Allowed, $30.
You can connect three devices that have WiFi. Verizon hotspots can connect five. Your speed should be about the same as the iPhone 4 browsing speed on 3G. If your phone is on WiFi, the devices need to connect separately to that WiFi, not to your hotspot. I would love to see a software update that allows my WiFi connection to be shared, so I don't have to manually connect the iPods that my boys use one at a time.

When syncing the iPhone and iPad with iTunes on your computer that is logged in with the Apple ID you plan on using on all three, the Apple ID should be transferred to the iPhone and iPad for the iTunes & App Stores on each device. If not, you'll need to sign out of the existing Apple ID on the iPhone and iPad followed by signing in with the Apple ID you want to use on both.
Keep in mind that all 3rd party apps include DRM protection which is tied to the iTunes account or Apple ID that was used to download the apps. With an app installed on your iPad and iPhone that was downloaded with a different Apple ID from the one you will be using now, you will need to use that Apple ID and password to install app updates for those apps. Not possible to transfer apps purchased with one Apple ID to another or to merge Apple IDs.

I am not exactly sure why the menu did not detect the password change or if it was stored incorrectly after you changed it? I recommend you consider Omnifocus. It is a task management program which runs on the Mac, Iphone & Ipad. I use it for task management and project management. It let's you store additional information as well. I sync all three devices through a Mobile Me account and I can enter data on any device and it is available on all devices. I believe you can also sync through Dropbox. I'm not sure that you can sync through iCloud yet. The link to their website is: www.omnigroup.com. There may be less expensive alternatives, but this one meets my needs and syncs very well across all devices.

I can no longer sign in to my hotmail account on my ipad or MacBook. Hotmail works on my android. I have tried deleting and adding account. Won't add.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.
