Ipad 2 Microphone is BROKEN !!!

As plenty of poeple out there, after just 2 years of life the microphone of my iPAD 2 32 Gigabytes DIED.
No privacy settings issues, just hardware damage. The vacuum cleaner workaround fixes it for just a few hours then has to be redone. And just for a few months this is out of warranty! 250+ euros is TOTALLY unreasonable price for a new microphone and on the forums you can find hundreds of people with the same issue.
Could you please recomment me a NEW microphone, to plug in in 3.5mm jack, which WON'T mute the speakers ( so with a connector who's using ONLY the MIC connection and not the speakers connection ) ?
So basicly I will be able to use again SKYPE handsfree on speakerphone with just a little external microphone plugged in in the iPAD !
Thanks

I saw one post where a user said dust got inside the small microphone hole. Using a vacuum cleaner removed the dust and restored the audio.
 Cheers, Tom

Apple does not repair iPads. They will replace it with a refurbished device at a cost and the cost varies depending on which model and where you live.
    in the U.S.
My iPad is not eligible for warranty service. What are my service options?
Apple offers two service options for iPads that are not eligible for warranty service.
    Battery Replacement Service
If your iPad requires service only because the battery's ability to hold an electrical charge has diminished, please refer to the Battery Replacement Service information.
    Out-of-Warranty Service
If you own an iPad that is ineligible for warranty service but is eligible for Out-of-Warranty (OOW) Service, Apple will replace your iPad with an iPad that is new or equivalent to new in both performance and reliability for the Out-of-Warranty Service fee listed below.
    iPad model
    Out-of-Warranty Service Fee
    iPad mini
    $219
    iPad, iPad 2,
    iPad mini Retina
    $249
    iPad 3rd, 4th generation,
    iPad Air
    $299
A $6.95 shipping fee will be added if service is arranged through Apple and requires shipping. All fees are in US dollars and are subject to local tax.
Certain damage is ineligible for out-of-warranty service, including catastrophic damage, such as the device separating into multiple pieces, and inoperability caused by unauthorized modifications. However, an iPad that has failed due to contact with liquid may be eligible for out-of-warranty service.
Apple reserves the right to determine whether or not your iPad is eligible for Out-of-Warranty service. Replacement iPads have a 90-day limited hardware warranty or assume the remainder of your standard warranty or AppleCare product coverage, whichever is longer. Please see the AppleCare+ for iPad andApple Repair Terms And Conditions for further details.

    Hi NILANJ PATEL,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Based on the information you have provided, it sounds like your iPad mini needs to be serviced. The following link should help you get started with the process and has links with additional information on topics such as warranty and service pricing, battery replacement, and express replacement service.

  • My touch screen of ipad 3 is broken by an accident. Can I replace at retail? and how much it is?

my touch screen of ipad 3 is broken by an accident. Can I replace at retail? and how much it is?

Apple does not repair iPads, but will replace the entire iPad for a flat fee; see the Repair Pricing section here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipad/service/faq/
There are independent iPad repair services that may be able to replace the screen for less. Do a web search for "ipad repair".  Note, though, that if you elect to have the iPad serviced by an unauthorized shop, all further warranty will be void.
    Regards.

  • IPad microphone

I am wondering if there is way to turn off the iPad microphone ? I am using the app, GarageBand, I am using it with headphones and I noticed extraneous noise. I did sone checking and discovered that the iPad microphone does not disable, even if you plug another microphone into the headphone jack . The built in microphone on the iPad is ALWAYS on. This is not acceptable. When I connect my guitar to the iPad the microphone just introduces to much feedback . If this microphone cannot be disabled by software I will have to go to extremes to disable it . I do not want to od anything drastic. Please, someone help. Thanks.

I would love to know the answer to this too. As soon as GarageBand is active, the internal microphone is active. Surely it only need be active when you explicitly choose audio recorder, and even then when 'internal microphone' is your required source. Alas there are literally zero options in Garageband for iPad for this kind of control.
I simply wanted to record guitar via input, rather than mic, but it records the microphone input as well, which, since I use my computer as the external monitor, results in both the guitar, the playing track from the computer and any other environmental sounds being recorded! Ridiculous. I just want to be able to record from the plugged in device only... is that too much to ask?!
You can see it's active when you're using the 'Guitar Amp', even without any other external devices plugged in, any noise causes the LED on the input options jack icon to light.
IMO, this makes Garageband pretty useless for recording any kind of external instruments, which it boasts as one of it's strengths.

  • The glass on my new ipad air was broken one day. I have had it for about a month. 1 day I took it out of its case as usual and the screen was splintered at the top and cracked downwards.  It had not received any bangs, or been dropped or anything.  Help!

Hi, I have had my ipad air for about a month.  The other day I took it out of its cover and it was splintered from the top with downward cracks.  It is new and under warranty so I rang the support team.  They told me that it would cost about €120 but could be repaired on the spot and they made me an appointment at the local genius bar.  I got there and they told me that I had dropped it or banged it or something.  I said I had not, they insisted that I must have done.  I repeated several times that I had not - it was obvious they did not believe me, they said I must have done.  They then told me they never repaired or replaced broken glass in any ipads, that the man on the 'Support' had been wrong.  They always replaced the whole ipad at a cost of €300.  I was devastated at not being believed and at the amount of money they were asking for.  I left and rang the support again.  I was told their system was down but to call on monday to get a quote for the reparation, I could send it to my home insurance company and they would undoubtedly cover the repair.  I asked how long this was all going to take because, I was in the middle of a big project and this was taking up my time, and also I needed the ipad for my work.  They told me it would be done in a minute.  I rang on the Monday and I was told it would take up to 5 days to send but probably it would arrive sooner (it is now thursday, I have received nothing).  I then rang my household insurance, a big company - and they told me they had never heard of such a cover.  I asked if this was because I had a very basic policy, they said, no it wasn't that - I didn't have a basic policy I had quite thorough policy, but they didn't know of a policy in any comany that would cover this sort of damage.  I was stunned - yet again I had been given false information and false hope by apple.  Yet again I was let down.  I then decided to do a further investigation on the internet and discovered a long trail of comments on Apple Forum of people who have also had splintering and cracking of the ipad air glass for no reason whatsoever.  Some have commented that the glass could be thinner in order to reduce the weight, some have said that the splintering could be caused by a weakness in the casing at the top where it is plastic (the ones that take sims) that might make it more flexible and therefore liable to crack.
All of the posts and complaints on the apple forum and elsewhere seem to point to a design fault.  However throughout all this I have been mislead by apple support staff constantly who all say different things, I have virtually been accused of lying by denying that my ipad received any kind of impact by apple staff and I have been left feeling incredibly frustrated and upset by the total lack of any kind of real help by Apple.  All this despite being acomplet apple user in my business for the last 25 years, where I have never come across this attitude towards me as a customer before.
When the screen on my iphone broke, it was because I fell in the street while I was talking on the telephone, it flew out of my hand and smashed on the pavement.  I was rolling around in agony, while my son was holding up the smashed telephone wailing 'Mama, you've smashed your iphone!!!'  This of course, I blamed on noone but myself - it broke because it fell, I paid an arm and a leg without protest to get it repaired.
This is not the case with my new ipad air.  It has splintered for no good reason at all - and noone at Apple seems to want to help me or to care!
I would really appreciate it if someone could tell me if there is anything else I can do to ge this matter resolved?

If it was a refurb replacing one that was under warranty, the warrany is good until the original warranty expires or 90 days from replacement, whichever is longer. In either event, it should still be covered if you've only had it for a month. (assuming you're in the US here). You can try to restore it as a NEW device rather than restoring from your backup, but this sounds like a hardware failure... I think. I'm not sure what you mean by "the top half of the screen slides". If you mean only the top half is touch sensitive, how can you determine that? You wouldn't be able to slide to unlock if that were the case...
Sorry, I'm a little confused by that description.

  • The crystal touch of my iPad 2 is broken.

I had an accident and the crystal touch of my iPad 2 was damaged (broken in the corner) what do you recommend me to fix my iPad 2?
and where can I send it to replace the cristal Touch, and what happen with my warranty?

My last suggestion is to reset your iPad.
Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
Note: Data will not be affected.

  • Syncing passcode protected ipad 2 with broken screen

Well, I broke my ipad screen (and probably more)... left it on the top of the car while strapping in the 10 month old, headed off to parts unknown and when the car got up to speed I heard a horrid thud, and saw the poor thing bounce.  I wanted to see if I could still still sync one last time because I've got some movies of said 10 month old I'd really like to save....
Connected to itunes, and to my amazement the computer recognized the device!  unfortunately, I got the dreaded message that it couldn't connect because it was locked with a passcode.  I know the passcode, but can't enter it because the screen is broken!
Any ideas?  I'm not worried about purchased apps or music, as I think I can redownload most of that stuff from the itunes store, but I just want to get the pictures and home movies off.

We cannot speak for Apple on this forum - we are just Apple users.
But as an Apple user, my strong advice to you is to expect a refurbished and not a new unit.

  • My iPad glass is broken. I am in India. How can I get it repaired?

    Hi
The glass of my iPad is broken. It stopped working. There does not seem to be a support center in India. How can I get it repaired ?

Go to the Apple Store and then talk to a Genius Bar Employee to Repair it!

  • If my mini ipad screen is broken does apple store fix it under the warenty?

IF my mini iPad is broken, does apple store fix it under warranty?

If in some extremely unlikely event the screen cracked on it's own, and you could prove that it happened that way, it would be covered under the warranty. However, you would have to have a very compelling case and great evidence that the screen cracked due to a manufacturers defect.

  • IPad volume button broken, can't turn volume up

My iPad fell on the floor (tiles) and it got lightly bashed in where the volume roller bar and volume lock button is on the side of the iPad. The volume icon is now constantly displayed on the screen and I can't turn it up (it is not on mute). Does anyone know how I can turn the volume up without the volume roller button? Thanks!

    Hey Bailey,
    You have a couple options:
    1) Use the volume slider in the software (ie, music app, youtube app etc), however if the button is jammed broken in the up position that may not work
    2) Apple will swap your iPad out with a refurbished starting at $249 and up
    3) The final and most economical is to have it repaired. I have use the company below for an out of warranty iPhone repair and they did a great job. A quick search shows they can repair the volume for about $80.

    Good luck!

  • What should I do if my iPad microphone doesn't work?

I tried to record a video and the sound wasn't working. But I watch videos on YouTube and listen to music perfectly, so I think it is the microphone. What should I do? Also if I send my iPad in for repair will it cost for me to ship it even though I have coverage?

    Krsupermodel122-
You need to contact Apple.  If you can show your iPad to an Apple Store Genius, you may get a new iPad on the spot.
If there is no Apple Store near you, look for an Apple Authorized Repair Center.  There may be one in your city.  In the US, <United States>.  Outside the US, <http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1434>.
