  • IPAD 2 Won't Charge on USB port on my laptop, my desktop Mac but will charge via the wall plug

I am confused on what to do with my IPAD 2.  It won't charge via my USB Port on my PC that I travel with.  Also I just purchased a new desktop Mac and it will not charge on that USB port either.  But it will charge via the Wall Plug that came with it.  I am worried when I travel to different countries to use the wall plug.  I have an adapter to switch power.  I am from Canada and travel oversees where the power is 240 vs the 120 at home.  If I use my plug adapter and plug in my ipad to the wall Will I destroy the battey in my IPAD 2.  I love my ipad to travel with but it is very frustrating when it will not charge on my PC or on the airplane.  Then I am afraid to use the wall plug in the airport because of the difference in power.  Would really appreciate some help here because I am oversees 2 weeks a month and only get a couple days use of my IPAD.  I have all my books and everything on it and need to be able to recharge it.  Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks
    Confused!!!!

For better future reference, you should be aware that the voltage means nothing when it comes to charging power. All that that is telling you is that the Power Adapter will work across that voltage range, i.e., you don't need a transformer to plug it into the outlet (although you may need different plugs, which is a separate topic).
What matters is the amperage (A) and the power in watts (W). The Power Adapter puts out 2 A @ 5 VDC (volts DC), which means it's producing 10 watts of power. It will output that across the entire voltage range.
A high-power USB port on a PC will put out 0.5A @ 5VDC, or 2.5 W. Be aware that not all of the ports on any given PC are likely to be putting out even that much power, at may well be putting out less than half as much. That's why you'll often see the "Not Charging" when plugged into a USB port, especially on Windoze laptops, and why it will charge very slowly even when it works.
FYI, the charger which is sold with the iPhone looks identical, is called the same thing, but only puts out 1A. It will work on the iPad but will charge more slowly. By that same token, the iPad charger will charge an iPhone just fine, it will just charge faster.

  • Droid Ultra has suddenly stopped charging from the wall plug-in

My Droid Ultra has suddenly stopped charging from the wall plug-in. I've tried every charger in the house. I've tried to plug it into a wall charger at work in case there may be an issue with my outlets at home, but it won't charge from a wall plug-in from any location. However it will chage if I plug it into the computer or my portable battery charger. Any ideas why it won't charge from a wall plug-in and how I may fix it?

Let's get your phone charged, chaseperil! You stated that you have tried every charger in your home. Have you tried the whole charger or just the cable? We want to make it is not the plug part of the charger. Are you using the charger that came in the box?

  • My iPad says it not charging when it's plugged in

When i plug my ipad in it says (not charging) next to the battery symbol

    Hi,
USB cables are not sufficient  enough for an iPad. You need to use wall power.

  • IPhone5 only charges when using USB plug.

    Good Evening all,
For the past day or so i can only charge my iPhone5 when i plug my lightning cable into the USB wall plug provided with the phone.
It will not take a charge when the lightning cable is plugged into the phone and then into any of the USB slots on my iMac.
I have tried various combinations of lightning cables and USB slots and still nothing until i connect the phone to a USB wall plug.
Any thoughts or has anyone else encountered this problem.
    Many Thanks.

First thing I would do is inspect the dock connector on the bottom of the iPod with a magnifying glass and check from any pins that might be broken off or bent over. Also check for any kind of debris that might be coating and insulating any pins.
Sounds like one of the two data line is not making a connection and since you already tried different USB cords, then the dock connector is the next place to look.

  • Hi guys. Water damaged Iphone 3GS, works great, can charge on the wall plug and the usb cable on the PC, but neither the computer nor Itunes can detect it. Also I can pass and receive phone calls, but I can't hear anything. What are my options?

I did try DFU, restarts, try other computers, etc. But nothing. Should i buy a new battery?
    P.S: I'm sorry for my english ^^

Obvously your phone does not "work great" . It is damaged. Your option is to buy a new phone or get an out of warranty exchange at an Apple store.

  • Ipad 2 battery wont charge

The battery on my ipad 2 suddenly wont charge. Using original cable on wall outlet

Try giving your iPad a reset. Hold down the sleep and home keys until you see the silver apple. Let it reboot and try again.

  • TS3293 iPad 2 does no charge

iPad 2 does not charge. Used several ones.

The best way to charge it is with the supplied charger, plugged into the wall outlet.
If it doesn't charge, it's generally one of 4 things
    Bad power brick
    bad outlet
    bad cable
If you have spares, swap things out and if you replicate the non charging, then you rule those things out. If you've rules out all of that then the issue could be the port on your iPad.
You can try giving it a reset. HOld down the sleep and home keys, past when you see the red power down slider and until you see the silver apple. Let it reboot and try again. If it still will not charge, then you may want to call your local apple store and have them take a look at it. If there is something wrong with the port, it's beyond a user fix. If your device is still under warranty and doesn't show any  signs of 'abuse or neglect' then the device should be replaced.

  • It says not charging when it is plugged into my mac desktop

My Ipad 2 says not charging when it is plugged into my computer and it does not show up on the side bar in the itunes app.

It is possible that the USB port is not working properly as well. This support article might be of help.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1591
Sometimes all it takes is a restart - quit iTunes, restart your Mac and restart your iPad and see if that helps at all.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

  • Does 'dual voltage' on my iPod charger mean I can plug it in where system is 220V?

When I travel to countries where voltage system is 22V, can I plug my charger in the wall plug, without a converter (realize I will need a plug adapter)?
    thanks!

Yes. It can take anything from 100 to 240 volts.

  • My ipod will not charge from a wall socket but will charge using the same cable if the usb end is plugged into a computer or an airport power source. My iphone and ipad charge fine on the same cable usin ghte same wall plug in the same wall socket?

My ipod will not charge from a wall socket but will charge using the same cable if the usb end is plugged into a computer or directly into an airport power source. My iphone and ipad charge fine on the same cable using the same wall plug in the same wall socket. This makes no sense but I see that it has been posted as a problem elsewhere. This must be due to some kind of degredation of the Ipod. . It is not fixed by IOS resets as others have noted.
Has anyone asked Apple directly about this?

    Hi there Apples or Pears,
I would recommend taking a look at the troubleshooting steps found in the articles below.

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night.
