If the SIM is out of your phone, find my phone needs a data connection, so could use wifi - IF in range of a wifi and one that it can join (ie. a known network or one that is wholly open so no login required).  Your phone could also simple be turned off, so not findable, or it may have been restored (plugged into iTunes and restored as new) again, making it permanently unfindable.  Honestly, for someone stealing an iPhone, this is likely the first thing they do - restore as new and it is theirs forever.
Find my iPhone is tied to the users iCloud account - the find function is part of the iCloud account's services and it communicates with the iCloud servers over a data connection - either wifi or 3G.
Have you set up your iCloud account on your replacement phone, and is it working properly on that phone?

  • ATT iPad 2 64GB sim not picking up 3G

Have an old iPad and just got the new ATT iPad 2 64GB sim is not picking up 3G. Wifi working fine. I set up my data account  and followed a few support forums on resetting network etc... And nothing works. Toggles wifi, powered on and off numerous times et...
I did a test and I took the old sim out of the old iPad and put it in the new one, wouldn't you know. It then picks up 3G.
I did the reverse test as well and when I put new sim in old iPad 3G does not come up. It's obviously the sim, what do i do now?
Running latest 4.3.3 iOS on both, answers please.....

    Get a replacement microSIM.

  • Why does my iPad show no sim when turning on cellular data?

Why does my iPad show no sim when turning on cellular data?

Check the right and left sides of your iPad for a small hole the size of a paper clip (remove your smart cover if you have one).  If you see this, then you have the wifi + cellular model.  If you do, use a paper clip to remove the sim tray (or the sim removal tool that came with your iPad if you have it) as shown in the image below.
If the tray has a sim card in it, push the sim tray back in to re-seat it in the side of the iPad, then turn it on to see if the error message re-appears.  If it re-appears, take it to a Verizon store and have them give you a new sim card.
If you have a sim tray but it is empty, you'll need to go to a Verizon store to get a sim card for it.

  • Using iPad mini nano sim in iphone 6

I Currently have an iPad mini with the unlimited AT&T data plan that I'm grandfathered in for. The screen recently cracked, and I was thinking of getting the iphone 6 plus without a contract or SIM card....and then putting my iPad mini nano SIM card into the iphone 6 plus....and using it like I do my iPad mini....for data only.
will this be possible? will it recognize the iphone 6 as an iPad mini? I don't want to use the iphone 6 as a phone. Just want to use it as an iPad mini replacement.
THanks for any and all comments.

Incorrect.  The phone requires a SIM card to activate, after which the SIM card can be removed in order to use it like an iPod Touch.  See this:

  • IPAD 2 NO SIM AFTER  IOS 6 UPDATE

IPAD 2 NO SIM AFTER  IOS 6 UPDATE

Ditto here. Updated to IOS6 and now my SIM isn't being recognised. Did a factory reset, got a new sim but still not recognising it. Phoned apple - cant downgrade. Disappointing as my Ipad2 worked perfectly until the upgrade.  Apple can you please sort this out? or is it some hardware in the Ipad2 that has made it incompatible?
If anyone finds a solution please let me know.  I'm going to pop into the apple store and see what they have to say. I'm just outside my warranty but I've looked after the ipad2 really well and now it seems to have let me down.

  • IPad says" no sim" what does that mean? How can I fix this?

My iPad says" no sim" how do I fix this?

Or if that does not help go into settings and check if you have it turned on and not just set  to Wi Fi only , but I don't think it would be saying no sim in that case.

  • Hi i am a teacher and am looking to buy an iPad - we use SIMS (this isnt compatable with an IPad) but i can log into it via a virtual desktop.  What wold be the best iPad to buy?

    hi there
im looking to buy an ipad- we use SIMS at school and i need to be able to log into it.  I can via a virtual desktop via the college wireless netork.  I also have work on the network.  What would be the best IPAD to buy?

You have the choice of a full size iPad or the iPad Mini...both come as either WiFi only or WiFi+cellular data service.  With the cellular data model you can see if there is a SIM available that is appropriate.  Either model is capable of attaching to a wireless network to give you access.  Neither is capable of a wired connection, must be wireless.
So, the question is which size is the best for your personal use, and do you want cellular data access - great thing to have.  Then the decision is which storage capacity do you want...keep in mind that the iPad is not upgradable after purchase so get the storage you really want to start out.

  • Why does my iPad says no sim instead of saying iPad on the top left?

I don't have a sim card but Usually the iPads without the sim card say iPad on the top left corner but mine says no sim. Please help me out.

Try taking the SIM out, blow in the hole, and then put it back in.

  • TS1398 My ipad says NO SIM in the top left corner

My ipad says NO SIM in the top left corner instead of ATT like it used to.

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430

  • TS3274 Why does my iPad say " No SIM " in the upper left corner

Why does my iPad say " No SIM " in the upper left corner ?

    Hi Edwardtracey,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
It sounds like you have a cellular data plan and there is no service where you currently are.
The article below will explain this feature and how to turn the setting on/off.
The article has more details and screenshots, but I've quoted highlights below for you:
iOS: About the Cellular Data setting
Cellular data is used for data communication in cellular networks. It does not affect your ability to make or receive phone calls or to use Wi-Fi networks for Internet connectivity. If you turn off cellular data, you will be unable to:
See the cellular data icons in the status bar (for example, LTE or 3G).
Send or receive MMS messages. However, you can still send and receive SMS and iMessages if you're connected to a Wi-Fi network.
Retrieve or listen to new Visual Voicemail messages. To retrieve these messages, enable Cellular Data.
    Use Personal Hotspot.
You can adjust this setting by going to:
    iPad: Settings > Cellular
    Additional Information
You can also enable or disable cellular data for certain iOS features from this setting:
I hope this information helps ....
    Have a great day!

  • TS3274 Ipad says "no Sim". have to restart and it works fine for awhile

Ipad says no sim. when I turn off and restart it works fine for a while then does same thing. cleaned sim and reinstalled.

Rather than just turning it off and on, try a reset. Press & hold the Power and Home buttons simultaneously, ignoring the red power off slider, until the Apple logo appears. Then release both buttons. This should not affect any content on the iPad, it is similar to rebooting your computer.
If that doesn't help, then the next step is to retore it to the factory settings. Then you can restore it to a previous backup (which may see the issue return) or set it up as a new iPad again.
