IPad 2 on iOS 5.1 losing wifi password.

I've updated my iPad 2 to iOS 5.1 and now it won't keep the wifi password. Each time I have to re-input the password. Sometimes it loses the password whilst I'm using it and just disconnects. It was fine on 5.0 but it's doing my nut in now. I'm sure this is a software glitch so Apple sort it out! My new iPad has had this problem once since I've had it, but the iPad 2 won't remember the password no matter what. It's not hardware as it worked fine for a year before this update.

1- What type of security are you using?  (WEP, WPA, WPA2, etc.)
2- Do you have your router set to hide your network's SSID (network name)?
WEP seems to be problematic with iOS devices, and it is not very good security anyway.  Using WPA2 is far better and plays nice with iOS.
Hiding your SSID can be problematic with iOS devices (my son's Mac had a problem with that too).  There really is no need to hide your SSID since that doesn't protect you in any way, it is quite easy to sniff around and find your network (I have a free app for that, so that tells you how prevalent such 'tools' are).

  • Ipad mini (iOS 6.0.2) wifi fixes don't work

please don't reply to this with the fixes that are already posted a zillion times in these forums.  they aren't working for me (and it looks like a lot of other people).  my question is what to do once we're beyond all those.  i received an ipad mini for xmas, and it's running iOS 6.0.2, which is supposedly better than its predecessor (how that can be, i'm not sure).  i love this device enough to continue to put up with the issues, so returning it is not an option.  however, i'm hopeful that someone out there has talked to a mac genius and discovered some trick to keep the wifi connected for longer than a second or two intermittently.
if that's not the case, then when can we expect 6.0.3 or 6.1 to actually resolve the issue?  or (gulp...) is it hardware related?
    thanks,
    Michael

Since the vast majority of iPad mini users are not having WiFi problems then, if you are having consistent WiFi problems on all networks, you very likely have a hardware problem with your iPad mini. This probably cannot be fixed by any iOS software update. The iOS 6.0.2 software fix likely was for a bug that only showed up with certain access points or network configurations. The only way to get your problem fixed is to get your iPad mini replaced by Apple. The fastest way to do this is via the Apple store but you can also arrange for replacement if you contact Apple support.

  • Updating iPad to iOS 5.0 via wifi

How can I update my iPad to iOS 5.0 software via wifi not computer

The option to update without the computer (Over the air) was made available with iOS 5. If your iDevice is using a version of iOS lower than 5, you will need to use iTunes on your syncing computer to perform the upgrade. Use the Apple link below as a guide for the upgrade.

  • I upgraded my first gen iPad to iOS 5.1 and wifi no longer works.

This is the weirdest problem.  I can see the networks available.  I appear to connect to them, and can see signal strength bars.  When I try to use that connection, nothing works.  I can't access URLs through safari, I can't get to YouTube or iTunes, I can't download email ... nothing.  I've tried this on multiple networks and all are the same.  Does anyone have any suggestions for a fix ... Or a way to revert to 5.0.1?
BTW, 3G works just fine, but I have to disable wifi in order to drop back into 3G mode.

I just updated my original iPad 32 GB WiFi to iOS 5.1 about fifteen minutes ago.  But I did it with the system restore feature in iTunes.  So it wiped out everything on my iPad.  But it did work.  Then I restored an earlier backup and all went fine.  Maybe you could try backing up your iPad and then using Restore to get it back to factory settings to see what happens.

Happened since installing latest apple software  upgrade 1.51. Network reset and factory restore not helped. Works for few minutes then drops out again. Has become unusable. It finds the wifi network fine, latches on to it fine, and have good wifif signal shown on the ipad, but when you go on safari it stalls and won't open the page. same with google ap.

  • IPad 3, iOS 5.1.1, wifi issues- just today

I have an iPad 3 running on ios5.1.1
Yesterday I synced it to my computer to renew my backups.
Today i arrived from work and went on the iPad to find out that i cannot load any pages that uses internet, like Safari, i cannot open pages at all.
I can see that the wifi is being dropped and connected to repeatedly. I turned off wifi for a minute and turned it on, tried to connect to my router and its taking a long time to connect, sometimes never connecting at all.
    I have done the following:
Rebooted iPad(press sleep>slide>...>press in to turn on)
    Turned wifi on and off
    Rebooted my router(6x)
Disconnected all wired and wireless devices that were connected to the router.
Connected to my iPhone 5's 'Personal Hotspot'= I was able to open pages on Safari.
Is there anybody out here that is having same problem as me?
    Whats wrong with it?
    What should i do?

    go into your router manager:
    type 192.168.0.1 into your browser,
log in as the administrator (default is usernamer=admin; password=password)
you should find a "check for upgrades" or something similar and follow the instructions

  • Krb5kdc + Wrong OS Time + Losing Wifi Password on start up ...

hi i just turned on my mac book pro running the latest snow leopard version and suddenly a pop up about krb5kdc and mDNSResponder showed up asking me for approval and then i noticed that my home wifi showed up but the saved password was gone and also my email accounts were no longer logged in on iMail. Also the OS Clock resets everytime i restart now
what's going on i didnt even install anything when i turned it off last night ...

    Okay.
I rebooted and everything's back to normal.
So it looks like for some reason the date and time occasionally reset on boot.
    William Kucharski told us that:
…because the time is wrong, the keychain entries for krb5kdc, mDNSResponder and your AirPort network's password aren't accessible (since the time is too "early" for their keychain entries to be valid.) …
So these keychains must hold the keys to a lot of the security configuration (firewall, AirPort passwords, FileVault data, etc.) . Since these keychains are inaccessible, those configurations can't be unlocked and are therefore inaccessible. So Snow Leopard resets them. And that's why it asks you stuff about the firewall and says “Access to this item is restricted.” whenever you try to get data from Keychain Access. I imagine that it would probably prevent FileVault users from logging in.

  • IPad 2. Wifi password problems

Hi. Have iPad 2. And keeps forgetting wifi password eg when I go to work and then return I have to re enter the home wifi password.  Any ideas?

No - just off line at work.  It seems to occur when I go out of coverage of the home wifi and then back when it won't log on automatically.  I have a BlackBerry which manages just fine to recognise the home wifi and log on.  It works when unsecurred but obviously I don't want that.  I am using WEP at home.
I seem to recall my iMac did this for a while then randomly stopped.

  • HT4623 i just updated my ipad to ios 8 but i cant connect to wifi network..its says my password is incorrect although i know my password is correct as successfully updated 2 iphones and connected to same wifi network

i just updated my ipad to ios 8 but i cant connect to wifi network..its says my password is incorrect although i know my password is correct as successfully updated 2 iphones and connected to same wifi network

I had the same problem. I reset my network settings as iOS 8 on my iPad 3 seemed a bit slow. When I tried to reconnect to the wifi the correct password was not accepted immediately.
after retrying several times it did manage to join the network. The only observation I had was that I had a weak signal and an iPhone next to me at the time.
make sure you are close to the wifi signal away from any other wifi devices.

  • IPad Keeps Losing Wifi Connection??

    Hi,
About 2 days ago, my iPad 2 began losing wifi connection. I would have to tap "Forget this network" and then wait a bit and then tap on the network again and type in the password. After that, the iPad would gain wifi again until about 5-20 minutes later, it loses wifi connection AGAIN. Sometimes when I did that it still didn't even work! And it also bothers me because it still has the wifi sign in the top left corner of my ipad screen, even if the wifi connection is not working. This has happened continuously throughout the past 2 days. Sometimes, the wifi would work for a good amount of time before it was gone again, and sometimes it loses connection after like 3 minutes. But all the other electronics in my house are perfectly fine, it's just my iPad 2 that's been doing this.
I tried to tap "forget all network settings" and then restart my ipad, but that didn't help. I'm not sure if it's the iPad's problem (since all the other electronics work) or if it's the wifi.
Please help! This is very annoying.
(And i have a new update which is 7.1.2, but that's been there for a pretty long time bc I always forget to update it. But I don't think that's the problem.)

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at
    http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are drooping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

  • Ipad3 losing  wifi connection after IOS 7.1 DL.  FIX??  I have reset, rebooted, etc.  This is unacceptable.

my ipad 3 is losing wifi or not letting streaming content happen after DL of IOS 7.1.  WIll not connect to the internet either.  Fix?? I have rebooted everything. HELP! now i have a $600 brick.

it sounds from your description like you have not made peace with your router.  suggest you reboot the router and the pad (as you have probably already done).  In settings, wifi - "forget" the network, the rejoin.  You will need to re input your password.
In one case, I needed to actually change the password in the router, then rejoin - that seemed to wake it up.
To test what is happening, go somewhere that has a public wifi - like a starbucks or Macdonalds - Make sure your wifi works there.

  • My iPad Mini keeps saying "incorrect wifi password"

So just recently my ipad had dissconnected itself from our internet, i had attempted to re enter our regular wifi password which is about thirty numbers long, and it said incorrect, i figured sicne it was so long i mistyped something. so i typed it in another 10 or so times, no change. i later called apple which got me no where because appearently you now have to pay for phone sevices which is absouloutly ludacris. And seeing as our closest apple stores are in Detroit, or London, my parents cant just go take me whenever.
So anyways, i have googled every possible thing i can, and i still havent found any troublshooting things that work. Soft resets, and resseting network settings didnt help either. We thought it may have been our router, but yesterday i hd gotten a new phone which had no problems at all connecting to our internet, as well as my sister who had forgotten and reconected to our internet with out a problem too, i have tried updating to the latest ios but my itunes wont let me do it through the computer, and seeing as i have no wifi on my ipad i cant do it that way either.
So now im trying all i can to try and get it to update. I dont really want to restore because if i do and it doesnt fix anything, im stuck with an ipad that is basically usless because i cant download apps without wifi. And i have tried the whole turning on and off your router sequence many times and it hasnt worked.
So is there any way that i can fix this without restoring or going to apple? Restoring is my last resort.

Even though other devices can connect, it may still be worth resetting the router. Does it connect to other Wi-Fi networks?
If that doesn't work, you've done all the basic troubleshooting, so it's time for a restore.
If that doesn't work, you may have a hardware issue.
