IPad 2 or MacBook Pro 13"
I'm a junior in highschool, and i need advice! I have the choice of an iPad 2, or a Macbook Pro 13". Now to explain, i need a "computer" for Garage band, aka recording music, and just general college/highschool things like essays, just like browsing, and music. So it will have to be able to function as my only "computer" where i can have my life. So i will be using the Apple Work suite, like Pages and Keynote. Can i get some help??
I agree with Crizzo - I've had a number of students ask me this question. The iPad would be great for carrying around school for note-taking and web-browsing, but the office apps are limited compared to what you might need in high school for spread sheet and word processing purposes. Garageband is also more limited than the desktop version. And there are many interactive educational websites out there that are based in Flash or Java, which won't work on the iPad. If you need one computer, get the MacBook.
If you can afford it, look at the Macbook Air - it's solid-state drive makes it ideal for the portability of the school, as it comes in quickly, won't overheat, and doesn't have a moving hard drive that can be damaged by being moved. Plus it's very light-weight and fits easily in a bag.

Can I connect my iPad and MacBook Pro both via an iPhone hotspot?
First, a little background. I have an aging MacBook Pro (~5 years old), and my netbook was smashed on the way to work last night. My cell phone (not an iPhone) crapped out a few weeks ago.
So my first priority is to replace my netbook with an iPad. When I can afford it, I also want to upgrade to a new MacBook Pro. I've also been thinking of getting an iPhone.
One thing that always confuses me is Internet connections. I currently connect my MacBook Pro to the Internet via Verizon and use T-Mobile for my cell phone.
I was surprised when an Apple salesman told me the iPhone has a "hotspot" that I can use to connect both an iPad and MacBook Pro to the Internet. But an Apple salesman at another store told me the hotspot will connect the iPad.
Can anyone offer some details? I've been browsing some of the other threads, but I still don't really understand what a hotspot is. Am I correct in understanding that as long as I have an iPhone with me, I can use it to connect my iPad to the Internet? Can I similarly use it to connect a MacBook Pro (either my 4-year-old+ model or a new model)?
What kind of connection speed does a hotspot offer? I do a lot of websurfing and web design. Would a hotspot connection be about as fast as my current connection via Verizon?
Also, is the hotspot feature available with either AT&T or Verizon?
Thanks.Your hotspot will be billed by AT&T or Verizon based on your iPhone's model. Only the iPhone 4 from Verizon would allow a Verizon hotspot. Others have posted information revealing that the Verizon 3G connection is somewhat slower than the AT&T service. Also, the Verizon service suspends the use of hotspot when you take a phone call. The AT&T service continues during calling.
Selecting the hotspot feature under General> Settings> Personal Hotspot will change your data plan from your previous 250MB, 2GB, or unlimited amount to a new 4GB plan that includes tethering. AT&T charges me $45 instead of my Unlimited, but No Tethering Allowed, $30.
You can connect three devices that have WiFi. Verizon hotspots can connect five. Your speed should be about the same as the iPhone 4 browsing speed on 3G. If your phone is on WiFi, the devices need to connect separately to that WiFi, not to your hotspot. I would love to see a software update that allows my WiFi connection to be shared, so I don't have to manually connect the iPods that my boys use one at a time. -
iPad IOS 7.0.2 and Mountain Lion 10.8.5 Calendar colors do not match between computer and device. Problem did not exist until updated IOS arrived. Colours change of their own free will despite being corrected on both iPAD and MacBook Pro. Any answers?

Go to your hard drive, enter library, go into users, and go into launch agents and delete the thing above. Empty the trash and restart. -

When syncing the iPhone and iPad with iTunes on your computer that is logged in with the Apple ID you plan on using on all three, the Apple ID should be transferred to the iPhone and iPad for the iTunes & App Stores on each device. If not, you'll need to sign out of the existing Apple ID on the iPhone and iPad followed by signing in with the Apple ID you want to use on both.
Keep in mind that all 3rd party apps include DRM protection which is tied to the iTunes account or Apple ID that was used to download the apps. With an app installed on your iPad and iPhone that was downloaded with a different Apple ID from the one you will be using now, you will need to use that Apple ID and password to install app updates for those apps. Not possible to transfer apps purchased with one Apple ID to another or to merge Apple IDs. -
How can I transfer a small batch of photos from the new ipad to macbook pro? In theory, I should be able to keep my albums together this way (once uploaded to macbook pro, i can easily file them into a new album on macbook pro.) Not working for me! Macbook pro does include iphoto. I had no problem uploading ALL photos (3 or 4,000.) Help! Goal is to keep albums together.

Hi there. Can anyone help? I have an iphone, ipad and macbook pro. Whenever I add anything to my calender it always puts itself in twice and always reminds me of everything twice on each of my appliances. I'm sure it just a matter of ticking or unticking boxes but I can't seem to get the right ones.
- You can only sync an iPod to one iTunes library/computer. You can however, manually manage music and videos among different libraries.
Go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Sync your iPod....>Sync You Device>Set up Syncing>Sync your device manually and follow the instructions.

Option 1) Select the content desired to sync and sync.
Option 2) Drag and drop the content onto the device.
If the side bar is needed/desired, typing Cntrl + S will display it. -

When I connect iPad to Macbook Pro through USB Port or even charge my iPad via the apple adapter, it has no response at all. I can only charge my iPad when I totally shut off the iPad. Pls advise.
Well ... the charger is the original charger and just checked and confirmed it is a 5.1V charger. How come? Next is why when i connect my iPad via original usb cable, no response from macbook pro? used to sync with iTunes now totally dead.

have Pages on iPad and MacBook Pro but can't access docs from iCloud on laptop. laptop keeps telling me to purchase pages for iPad (which I've been using on both the iPad and MacBook for months - App store says i have them both too). Both units have current updated systems and apps. Using same apple ID. Calendar and contacts work fine between both machines.
Do you have any secondary accounts set up in mail, contacts and calendars.

I saved a corrected, most up to date version of my master Address Book Contacts as a back-up on my Mac Book Pro.
then in an effort to "simplify my life" i attempted to sync my I phone contacts - ( pre clean-up version) with my clean list on Mac Book Pro, New I pad and newly available icloud. DUH!! Using iTunes to do the sync caused the clean MacBOOK Pro list to be commingled with the dirty iphone contacts. amd now the whole mess is in the cloud.
I need to clear out the contaminated lists from all iplaces, and startover with Back-up on my macbook pro. BUT HOW???

KarenI had exported an address book backup: abbu
so since i wrote, i have found my way into the cloud: selected all entries - deleted them all from the cloud.
This wiped out contacts on my iphone and i pad, and MBP, as well as on the cloud. I then imported the abbu back into my now empty address book.
To repopulate the crowd, i selected all in my address book and created a single card vCard for export to my desktop. I then dragged that vcard into my empty cloud. Now my cloud has the same clean contacts as my MBP addressbook. The cloud then pushed the clean contacts into my empty ipad and iphone contacts.
I had to go back to Address Book>preferences>Accounts and Add an I cloud account - but if you accidentally create a second i cloud account - all of a sudden your address book will duplicate itself. I quickly reversed it by deleting one of the icloud accounts in my Address Book>preferences>Accounts.
I created a new entry on my MBP and it is now on all devices and in cloud
I also created a new entry on my iPhone and it is now in the address book on my MBP.
I feel empowered!!
