IPad 2 photo sync w/ Aperture 3

Just got an iPad 2. Tried to sync photos from Aperture 3 library to iPad via iTunes.
One album sync'd, the rest did not.
The album that sync'd shows up on the iPad as an "event", not an album.
I can't think of any differences between the photos that came over and those that did not.
Cameras:Primarily D90 and D7000, imported to Aperture as RAW.
There was an error message that one, much older image couldn't be imported because of its format, but no other, specific images were listed as problems.
Thank you in advance.

When looking at the photos in the photos app are you looking in all to the categories up top Photos, Albums, Events, they could be hiding.

  • Apple TV 1st Gen + iTunes 10 + Photo Sync (with Aperture 3) = No Sync

I recently started to experience the same issues that others have reported regarding not being able to sync their Apple TV classic (1st generation) with iTunes 10.
I grudgingly disconnected my Apple TV from iTunes which wiped out all the content. Then when I started a new sync, the Apple TV (and my iMac) froze when trying to connect.
So, I disconnected them again, and quickly set the sync preferences to a "Custom" sync. After an hour of playing around with the settings, and turning on (one by one) syncing of video content, music and podcasts, I've narrowed it down ... to Photo syncing with Aperture.
All of the other content that iTunes will let me select, syncs fine. I've re-synced my entire music library, but if I even setup iTunes to sync 1 photo from Aperture to my Apple TV ... freeze-o-matic.
Anyone else run into this issue and/or been able to find a workaround to fix it?

Finally found answer, many thanks to:

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Your library has become a secondary (streaming only) library only (it is possible to turn syncing off by ctrl-clicking on the Apple TV listing in the device list and choosing 'Turn Off Syncing" from the contextual menu) and you need to reconnect your library as a primary library.
Navigate to Settings > Computers > Your Library on the Apple TV, you may be told you will lose all synced content, but you can sync it back afterwards, you won't lose any purchased content that has yet to be transferred. Then select Settings > Computers > Connect To iTunes, note the passcode that appears on screen, click on the device in iTunes and enter the passcode when prompted.

  • Better iTunes photo sync with Aperture

iTunes quite reasonably doesn't copy Rejected photos to an iOS device through iTunes.
I'd like to set the bar higher, and only have it copy (say) 1-star or better photos, so that I don't have to reject photos just to stop them appearing on my iPad. Is this possible, somehow?
The other issue is that even though a certain album is arranged by date, on the iPad the photos appear arranged by version name, which is not a useful order. If I move an image then move it back again, the order becomes Manual, and then that is transferred to the iPad - but that's a bit crude.

It would be OK if didn't want to keep my photos arranged on the iPad too, but I do.
You can make one Smart Album, set the parameters the way you want, then duplicate it in all of your other Projects. Here's s tip on how to do that easily:
    http://aperture.maccreate.com/2010/02/28/smart-album-can-switch-reference-in-ape rture-3/
This is certainly helpful but still more painful than it needs to be. In order to get iTunes to only sync (or share to an AppleTV) these smart albums, I have to switch iTunes into "selected albums only" mode and manually add the new smart albums as I create them. Doable but unnecessarily tedious. I really just want to say "sync/share all my projects" but apply a filter.
The filter could be just rating based (e.g. "only photos that are 2+ stars" etc) or they could go all the way and support all of the same criteria that smart albums have. I would be happy with just the rating based filtering. Same for iPhoto, for that matter.
Alas, I hold no hope that this will be added anytime soon.

  • Photos uploaded to ipad won't sync to Aperture

I took some photos while on the road and used the Camera connection to upload them to my iPad 3. When I sync the iPad with my iMac, the photos won't upload to Aperture. I am certain there is a simple explanation and easy fix, but I haven't figured it out yet. Thanks for any suggestions.

After using the Camera Connection Kit and importing the photos to your iPad, you now should be seeing them in an event on the iPad.
When you connect the iPad with an USB cable to your mac and open Aperture, you should see the photos in the Camera Roll and the photos in the events in Aperture's Import panel, to be ready to be imported to Aperture - tested with Aperture 3.4.5 and iPad 3.
With the "Photos.app" on the iPad you could also select the photos in the event and use "Share" to share them to your Photo Stream. But saving to the Camera Roll is not possible.
With the "iPhotos.app" on the iPad you have additional sharing options. You can save the photos to the Camera Roll or to iTunes. Both would be helpful, if you already have edited the photos and want to import the edited versions.
See this support article:  http://support.apple.com/kb/PH3148 , the paragraph "Import photos to iPhoto or Aperture on your computer" at the end of the document.

  • Bad Quality in photos sync from Aperture

I have just bought a shiny new imac with Aperture Installed and I've found a problem when syncing projects in Aperture with my iPhone.
What happens is that about a third of all photos I sync appear blurred and pixalated on the iphone even though they are crisp and clear in Aperture. I've tried the unsync and resync 'cure' with no success.
One curious thing though, if I export the project from Aperture into a folder on my hard drive and then sync directly from that ALL of the photos are crisp and clear even the ones which were originally blurred.
As I said this is a new imac and I've never used Aperture before so I wondered if there was something I might be doing wrong or some setting I may have missed, because it seems that the problem is something to do with Aperture but I'm at a loss on how to cure it.

Thank you that solved the problem. I had a feeling it was going to be something I'd missed in the settings but I never would have guessed that it was to do with preview sizes. I'd always assumed it was the master copies that were sync'd.
    So thank you one again

  • Ipad / iphone photo sync folders list error

After syncing 3rd gen ipad with PC, iphone 6 unnecessarily re-syncs all the photo folders that are unchecked for the ipad's sync!  Of the 14,000 photos I need to sync, it re-syncs 4500 unnecessarily and takes over 1 hr.  iPad has only selected folders checked for sync.  iPhone has all folders.  I can sync the iphone successfully in succession, put then if I sync the ipad, the next iphone sync unnecessarily re-syncs all those unchecked ipad folders.

  • BUG: Photo sync with Aperture albums?

Hi, I think I have found a bug with how iTunes syncs photos across to my new (and until my number ports across, useless) iPhone. I posted this in a different discussion previously...
    If you set it up that only selected Aperture albums are synced, like this;
    [ ] album1
    [tick] album2
    [ ] album3
    [tick] album4
then albums 2 and 4 are optimized and copied across.
    However, if in Aperture you create a new album (by importing new photos, say) that appears in the list, e.g., between album2 and album3, then the ticks retain their spacial position, not their position relative to the album they are meant to sync;
    [ ] album1
    [tick] album2
    [ ] album_new
    [tick] album3
    [ ] album4
So now, when you sync, album4 is deleted and album3 is placed on the phone - not what you would expect.
    Has anyone else noticed this?

It is fixed now though. If you upgrade to iTunes 7.5, and iPhone software Update 1.1.2
    Hi Scott,
    Thanks for the reply.
That's strange... I am using leopard, with iTunes 7.5 and a brand new UK iPhone (so it has 1.1.2 already on it). It was essentially in 'virgin' state too; I had to return my 1st phone due to a tiny but annoying problem with it. I noticed the this after only a couple of syncs - when the sync was taking a while due to the photo optimizing step.
I will take another look tonight.

  • How does iPad handle photo sync / email re-size?

    Hi Everyone..
I have a photo on my computer which is 3.0megabytes in size. I sync this photo to my iPad2.
    All is good.
Now when I go to email this photo from my iPad, it seems to show up as 516k..
What is going on? Is the iPad shrinking a 3.0 megabyte photo down to 516k to email?
    Or
Is the iPad / iTunes shrinking it down to 516k when my computer originally synced it with my iPad, and therefore
the photo resides on my iPad as a 516k file?
    I'm confused.

Hi and thanks for yoru response -
What you're saying seems to be the case with the iPhone but not the iPad.
Unless I'm missing something, there is no option to select a size that I see.. Not like on the iPhone where it says 'Small, Medium, Large, Original'..
    Am using the latest iOS

  • IPad and Photo Syncing??

I recently synced some pictures to my iPad 32G and it worked perfectly. I tried doing it again the other day and now it will not allow me to sync. If I go to the photos tab on iPad through iTunes, then select a folder of pictures, I get "revert" or "apply" buttons. When I hit revert it deselects all the folders I wanted to put on, but reselects the photos already on iPad. If I hit apply, it asks me if I'm sure about wanting to delete all of my apps and everything associated. I have plenty of room left on the iPad, so not sure what's happening....????

I am trying to add pictures to my ipad from my computer. I tried restarting my computer and resyncing iPad several times and it still gives me the same message. "are you sure you want to remove 21 apps from the iPad? This will delete these apps and their data from the iPad." that only comes up if I click apply. If I click revert, it just deselects the pictures I want on iPad and selects the ones already on the iPad.

  • Ipad 2 photo sync

Hello. I was wondering how you can sync photos taken or downloaded by the ipad 2 to pc. I know how to sync the ipad with the pc but any photos taken by the ipad are not transferred to the pc .Can you help?

Pc or mac?  If mac, while connected, open i Photo, select the pad in the left bar, and upload the photos.  In windows, sometimes a photos box will open when you plug it in.  If so, go that route.  If the windows 'camera' qurwstion does not come up by itself, goto my computer, find the pad, and import the photos.
In either method, you are now storing the photos on the computer, then decide what to sync back, and proceed with a normal sync.

  • Can you sync photos to an iPad from both Aperture and Pictures Folder?  I know there are options for both but I have photos on both Aperture and Pictures Folder that I want to put on my iPad.

If I select Aperture as the option to sync for photos I can't select photos from the Pictures folder.  Currently I have my photos synced to Aperture but I want to add photos from Pictures Folder.  It doesn't really look like it's possible to add stuff as it would delete my photos from Aperture if I resync with the Pictures Folder.  Really frustrating because I don't want to have to add those photos to my Aperture library as I'm currently moving away from using Aperture to Lightroom.  So all my older photos are in Aperture but most of my newer images are saved in my Pictures Folder.  Thanks for any help with this.

    Hi Lawrence,
Thanks for that... I thought of that, of adding my iPad Pix as a subfolder of Pictures and syncing to Pictures but I remember many versions of iTunes' ago that I could add folders. Can I still do that or has that option gone? If the option doesn't exist then I suppose I will have to use folders and subfolders.
The thing is, I have iPad Pix as one folder then another folder of Pictures with various subfolders within it. It's a couple of those different subfolders I want to sync as well as iPad Pix and I don't want the hassle of moving and syncing specific folders etc... it really would be easier if I could sync more than one folder at the same time. Hope it's possible...
    Thanks,

  • Ipad won't sync with photos from Aperture - library cannot be found

Ok I give up. When trying to sync my photos onto my new ipad from Aperture in iTunes I keep getting the message "iTunes cannot sync photos to the ipad because your Aperture Library could not be found. Open the preferences window in Aperture and enable the preference to share previews with other applications. Well the library is where it should be in the Home folder and then pictures. I have the latest version of iTunes and Aperture. The only similar setting I can find in Aperture preferences is under Previews and Share Previews with ilife and iwork, no mention of itunes?
I've gone into my Aperture show contents and deleted the cache folder ipod photo cache (I previously synced to my iphone 3GS). It works syncing to iphoto, as I have tested it and the iphoto is in the same folder as the Aperture library so they are in the right location.
I am now at a loss as to what to try next......PLEASE HELP ME....
I don't want to have to have a Aperture library and an iphoto library on the go!

    Hi,
iTunes cannot sync photos to the ipad because your Aperture Library could not be found.
If you have an external drive connected to your Mac, disconnect that, restart your Mac, restart your iPad and try syncing photos from Aperture.

  • IPad won't sync all selected Aperture photos

I upgraded to the most recent version of Aperture (3.0.2) and synced over some photos to the iPad. Some projects and albums synced perfectly, but others only brought over a few photos from a selected set, not all of them.
When I select an Aperture project or album to sync in iTunes, the number of photos in a selected project will list to the right. Some projects list the correct number of photos, while others are listing zero, even though there are many photos in the Aperture project.
Why would iTunes not be recognizing all of the photos from a selected project or album? I ran "Update Previews" and "Reprocess Masters" for these sets, just to make sure that they were properly recognized in Aperture, but it still doesn't see them. One project has 372 photos but iTunes only sees 7 of them.
    Thanks,
    Stacy

I am using Aperture 3.1 and iTunes 10.1 and the syncing simply does not work. I have a fairly large library that I recently imported from iPhoto. It seems to see some smart albums and not others. It seems to see some albums and not others. I also noticed that when I moved the library from iPhoto into Aperture it did not see the folders I used to organize my photos in iPhoto. It does import the photos and albums but not the folders and they do not appear at first.
So my conclusion is there is some flakiness surrounding Aperture and both the importing and sharing features. Anyway I am now in the process of updating the previews ad suggested by others in this discussion and hope this will render my photos visible to iTunes and my ipad which they aren't now. Perhaps I should have stuck with iPhoto,

  • Sharing Photo's between Aperture and iPhoto and syncing to iPads, etc

    Here is my problem.
I have 5 Macs (1 iMac, 4 laptops.) There are 4 people in my family and we have the family pack of iLife. The iMac is where everything sits with a time capsule and Drobo hanging off of it - about 6 TB's of data. Each Mac sync's with a variety of iPods, iTouchs and iPads. All linked to a user. So for example, all my oldest son's devices sync with only his laptop.
Well, I finally fixed my media (songs, movies, TV shows, etc) problem by leveraging home share in iTunes and authorizing all my Macs. But not so lucky yet for Photo's.
Here is the my photo dilemma.
I like Aperture for the editing and ability to handle large libraries better. So I have Aperture installed on the iMac where everything sits. iPhoto is also installed on the iMac and iPhoto is on all 4 other laptops. Prior to moving to Aperture, sharing photo's between computers was relatively easy using sharing in iPhoto - although it appears sharing in iPhoto is different than home share in iTunes. I converted my iPhoto library on the iMac to Aperture - now sharing is a pain in the neck.
Ideally, a Home Share like feature would be built into Aperture and iPhoto with another feature that would allow you to "check for new photos" on the laptops and pull them into Aperture - but wishful thinking right now.
So my while my 2 new iPads are awesome - they are basically useless for Photo's as they are synced to 2 laptops that use iPhoto, but all my Photos are in Aperture on the iMac.
    Thoughts anyone????
    Thanks

    What was the question?
