IPad 2 Safari opens ghost window.

iPad 2 safari loads previous window the first time reopened.  Subsequent opens a ghost window.  I want a blank window. I don't see this issue with iPad 2 just mac. If you know the fix please explain it like you are telling your great grandmother.

What do you mean by "ghost window"?
Safari on iOs will reopen any window you had opened when you closed it. Close any open tab before exiting Safari to prevent that.

    HI,
    Drag the bottom right corner out as far as it will go. Relaunch Safari. It should remember window position.

  • Safari opening closed windows

    safari opening closed windows when i go off safari and then back on, im worried my iphone have been hacked how do i know

    Safari can't reopen closed windows. Are you actually closing the windows by clicking on the little double square to the lower right and then clicking the little x that appears on each page you have open? Or are you just exiting safari by clicking the Home button?

    I looked at the article and looked in about:config and found that the preference was already set to True so I guess that isn't the issue.

  • Safari opens multiple windows...

    hello, please help me whenever i work on Safari in my book air (yosemite), it opens multiple windows  ,that are not useful, because of that my safari works very slow,my popup blocker is enabled and extensions are also off, i tried to reset my safari,but nothing work, what should i do to get rid of it.

    Click here and follow the instructions, or if there’s a type of adware not covered by them on the computer, these ones. If you're willing to use a tool to remove it(you don't need to, but may find it easier), you can instead run Adware Medic; this link is a direct download.

  • Safari Opens NUMEROUS Windows Upon Running Program

    Whenever I to open Safari, over 80 windows open immediately.  My homepages are two websties and I'll get probably 30 or so windows with my Home "pages" combination, and then another 50 of windows of sites I visted recently.  If I proceed to close the windows out, more open.
    Any recommendations? Would reinstalling Safari work? Or does this look like a virus and should I just restore from my time machine backup? My most recent backup is roughly 1 week old and my external has not been connected since this began to happen.
    It's worth noting this only happens to Safari--Firefox works perfectly fine. No other odd behaviors (ie. system lag, program crashes, etc.) have appeared.

    Try un-checking the "Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps" option under the General pane of System Preferences and then opening Safari.    This disables the resume feature in lion.   It isn't a permanant soloution but it might help narrow down if the resume feature is responsible for this.
    Edit: It might also be worth fiddiling around with the homepage settings such as setting it to only open blank pages in  new windows and new tabs instead of opening your chosen homepage and see if there is any problem there

  • Safari opens multiple windows when I open it

    When I open safari it opens multiple windows (260 to be exact) all of the same website and causing a temporary freeze of my computer. Then safari crashes and I have to force quit. Any suggestions? I have already unchecked restore windows in my system preferences.
    Thanks

    Try to reset safari via the safari menu .. Also if you can quit safari from the safari menu holding down the option key and pick quit and close all windows it might resolve your issue.

  • Safari opens new window

    Hi
    I am wanting links to open in a tab rather than new window the preferences are set to tab but it is opening in new window please help

    Some web pages specify that links open in a new window with certain code that bypasses the Safari keystroke to open in a new tab. Most links, however, will open in a new tab when you Command-click.
    Safari doesn't have a built-in for opening links automatically in new tabs when they're coded to open in a new page.

  • Safari opening browser windows that were not requested

    Lately I have been having browser windows opening on their own. These are always selling something usually adult sites. I have the pop up blocker enabled. Is there another pref or some software that will block these? Today I had one that I could not close. I had to shut down Safari to get rid of it. Thanks Bob

    Unfortunately, this is becoming more and more common.
    Pop-up blockers can only block certain types of pop-ups; sites using various scripting techniques can bypass the pop-up blockers and some create pop-ups that can't be killed.
    The cure is to not visit those sites.
    My concern is that some malware has been installed on the OPs computer. While Macs are mostly free of viruses and such, when invited, they certainly will come and stay. Bit-torrent sites, file-sharing and such allow other users internal access to one's computer and who know what they can install?
    While Winders systems can be attacked without the user doing anything, most if not all Mac attacks require the operator to allow them entry. Once in, I have no idea what havoc they can wreak.
    Time is coming when Macs will need AV, especially as they become a larger share of the market.
    According to MacScan there are are quite a few pieces of Mac spyware in the wild.

  • Safari -- opening new window puts cursor in search box

    Any way to have it start at the address field instead? I always forget and start typing URLs into Google search. Not the most annoying thing in the world but figured I'd ask in case I can set it to my preference. Thanks in advance.

    There is not a way to change this in iPad settings for Safari. I find that the cursor in the search bar is the right choice a little more than half the time, mainly due to the fact that sites I already know I want are bookmarked.

    What you are seeing is how Safari works now in iOS 5. There is no way to get that icon in Safari now. There other much better browsers available in the App Store. Look at iCab Mobile, Mercury, Atomic, ....
    I have been running iOS 5x for so long now, that I don't even remember if that icon did appear in earlier iOS versions

  • IPad 2 Safari javascript window.open bug

    I am building a web app that uses the PicUp app to upload photos.
    Part of how it works requires me to open a new tab with javascript, which fires some script to open a new url in an iframe on the previous page.
    I have named the 'windows' accordingly, and it works properly on the iPad 1 (Safari).
    But in iPad 2, the window.open function does not seem to take in a target window parameter, resulting in broken UI. The new tab opens, but the script to open a new URL in the other page's iframe does not work.
    My image still uploads, but the user would be confused, as there is no confirmation screen.
    Help!
    PS: I would also like to comment that it is fairly convoluted to have to download a 3rd party app just to handle http uploads, something every other browser can do natively. What is the reasoning behind not allowing iOS Safari to upload like normal?
    Thanks
    John

    Was able to produce a small test case.
    To demonstrate this problem, there are three pages.  You will need to load window1.html.  That page has buttons to load the other windows.  Make sure all files are in the same directory.
    window1.html
    <html>
    <head></head>
    <body>
    <script>
    window.name='win1';
    var si = setInterval('check()', 1000);
    function check()
        var d = new Date();
        var s = d.toString() + ' hash: ' + window.location.hash + "\n";
        var log = document.getElementById('log');
        log.value += s;
        log.scrollTop = log.scrollHeight
    </script>
    <form name='myform'>
    <input type=button name='cmd' value='Start second window (no close)' onclick="window.open('window2.html', 'win2')">
    <input type=button name='cmd' value='Start third window (with close)' onclick="window.open('window3.html', 'win2')">
    <br />
    <textarea cols=80 rows=10 id='log'></textarea>
    </form>
    </body>
    </html>
    window2.html
    <html>
    <head></head>
    <body>
    <script>
    window.open('window1.html#from2','win1');
    </script>
    <p>This is window2.html</p>
    </body>
    </html>
    window3.html
    <html>
    <head></head>
    <body>
    <script>
    window.open('window1.html#from3','win1');
    window.close();
    </script>
    <p>This is window3.html</p>
    </body>
    </html>
    Test scenario:
    If you run window1.html, you will see it is updating the text field with the time and displaying the current hash.  If you press the button 'Start second window (no close)', you will see another tab open up and stay there and the window1 text field will display the hash 'from2'.
    You can close the window2 tab if you want now (don't think it matters).
    If you then press the button 'Start third window (with close), the window1 tab is gone and window3 is still up there.  The title bar says it is window3 but it is not even displaying 'This is window3.html'  If I do a view source (using a javascript bookmark), it does show the window3 script but the <p> and text is not there.  Probably died in the script before parsing was finished.  This is the first problem.
    Now load the window1.html again in the browser (type on URL line).  If you press the 'Start second window (no close)", the one that worked before, and click on the window1 tab to view it and display the updating text box, you will see it did not see the hash change.  This looks like that physical tab was corrupted in Safari from the window 3 test.  I just found if you open a new tab, the new tab will be ok to run the second window (no close test).  At least until you run window3 (with the close).

  • Safari can't open a window

    Hi,
    I've updated iTunes, Safari and other updates, and than used the computer to set up iPad.
    Ever since, Safari won't open a window.
    I've tried removing any CT (toolbars) as indicated in other post but there aren't any. I've also tried configurating and additional user, but couldn't open Safari in that user either.
    Any ideas?
    (don't know much about computers so any help would be good).
    Many thanks,
    Shai

    Hello,
    I've also tried configurating and additional user, but couldn't open Safari in that user either.
    That's not good. Boot from your install disc, run Disk Utility to verify and if necessary, repair the startup disk.
    Insert your install disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
    Go to Installer menu and launch Disk Utility.
    (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first from the installer menu)
    Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
    Select First Aid in the Main panel.
    (Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)
    Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
    If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
    If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
    When you are finished with DU, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Manager.
    Select your start up disk and click Restart
    While you have the Disk Utility window open, look at the bottom of the window. Where you see Capacity and Available. *Make sure there is always 10% to 15% free disk space*
