  • HT201415 I inserted a working sim card but iPad(2) says "no SIM" - cellular data setting greyed out

I inserted a working SIM card into my iPad 2. It picked up the network but later gave a message saying "No SIM". The Cellular Data control option is greyed out so I cannot get in to this function. I have tried removing the SIM and re-inserting as well as re-starting. This made no difference. Any suggestions why this is the case? I have tried the SIM in my iPhone 4 and it works fine. Thank you.

The SIM was taken from my iPhone. It is an extra line and was used for voice calls etc. So, it appears as though I need to get a dedicated data SIM. Appreciate the assistance..many thanks!

  • IPad started saying no sim a week after warranty expired, new sim doesn't work. Apple store said nothing they can do I have to buy new iPad. Surely this cannot be true, it's only a year old on a 2 yr 3G contract please please help

iPad 2 started saying no sim, exactly 1 yr old. Went to get new sim which also failed to work, seemed to be a Lot of people experiencing same problem. 3 store said apple knows its an issue. Tried everything suggested in forums, took it to apple store for full restore. Nothing helped. Apple store said I had to buy new iPad as mine was 10 days out of warranty. Please help, surely this. Can't  be the case. I thought apples customer service and products were good. I am fixed into a 2 yr 3 g contract with a year to go.

Hi Debbie, it was a nightmare tried 3 new sim cards non worked. Apple refused to help as it was 10 days out of warranty and i hadnt extended the warranty I hunted Internet and asked couple of American techie guys from my geeks . It seemed to be issue with latest iOS upgrade and my problem happened after I upgraded to its 5.1.1 eventually I had to sit in Apple store with printout of all other affected users. It seemed Americans had been offered new iPads and problem was being acknowledged but not here. Although network providers said they had a lot of customers with same issue. I did get new iPad after long battle and had to pay for extended warranty. Good luck

  • How long do iPad SIM cards last? My iPad keeps saying "No SIM"

HHow long do iPad SIM cards last?  Mine says "No SIM", so I power down, then power up.  It'll last for a while, then I get the "No SIM" message again.

There is no "expiration date" on a sim card, but they are a circuit card.  They can go bad.  Talk to your carrier about a replacement.

  • Why does my iPad keep saying no SIM card installed?

I have an iPad 2 IOS8. It keeps saying I have no SIM card installed, why is that and why do I need a SIM card?

    Hi CusMan!
I have an article here for you that can help you troubleshoot that issue:
    iPhone: Troubleshooting No SIM
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts4148
The article is written toward iPhone users, but the steps for troubleshooting on the iPad are the same. Thanks for being a part of the Apple Support Communities!

  • My iPad suddenly says "No SIM"

My iPad suddenly shows a "No SIM" in the upper left area where the connections are usually shown.  That spot previously showed vertical lines to indicate the strength of the signal being received. Can anyone tell me how to fix this? Thanks. Connie

I just found someone else's question about this and tried their advice to toggle the "Airplane Mode" from "OFf" to "ON" and then back "Off" again.  There was a brief "No Service" message, but then it worked, and my signal lines are now back.
    Hope this helps someone else.

  • My data service tab, in settings, says no SIM

Just purchased a 32gig wifi & 3G ipad.  Says no SIM.  I went to click on data services and it got that faded look and will not let me into that tab, why?  Cant I activate my ipad from my ipad itself?

You didn't yet say which country you live in and where you bought your iPad.
Assuming that you're in the USA and assuming that you bought an AT&T iPad, there should be a micro-SIM card in your iPad, which merely requires activation by AT&T and you choosing an appropriate data plan.
Did you check the micro-SIM card tray of your iPad?

    Hi Inez2317,
Thank you for participating in the Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you see a "No SIM" message on your iPad. You can find some troubleshooting steps that can help at this link:
If you see 'No SIM' alert on iPhone - Apple Support
Although the article references the iPhone, most of the steps can help troubleshoot an iPad as well.

  • Original iPad 3G 64GB intermittantly says no sim card installed

My iPad, original 3G 64 GB intermittantly says no sim card installed.  There is no pattern as to when this occurs.  Retarting the iPad sometimes helps.  I have removed the sim card, blown out the sim slot and reintalled the sim card.  I have done everything I can think of short of restoring back to factory condition.  I have since been lent another iPad (identical to mine) and have installed my original sim card.  So far, no issues.  This leads me to believe it is an issue with the iPad itself.  Can anyone offer any suggestions or help?
    Thanks,
    Art M.

If you're stuck within an app or you've noticed a problem, simply hold both the home button and sleep/wake button at the same time. It's important to keep your fingers on these buttons until step 3.
After a few seconds the red ‘slide to power off' screen will appear, simply ignore this. Ensure your fingers are still holding down the home and sleep/wake switch.
Shortly after you should see the Apple logo, it's now safe to let go of the iPad's buttons. Your iPad should now boot, beware this process can take up to 15 minutes or so.

  • How do I fix this my iPad when it says invalid sim?

What can I do for my iPad when it says invalid sim at the top and I can't connect to internet?

You will need to try to restore your iDevice from the same computer that you most recently synced to.
    Read this: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1212
If you can't do the restore then you will need to try Recovery Mode.
