IPad 2 screen stuck upside down

I got a new iPad 2 for Christmas. Updated the software (iOS) to iOS 6 and then afterwards the screen turned upside down. I have done everything to try and fix and cannot get the screen unstuck.

None of us can possibly know what this includes .... "I have done everything to try and fix and cannot get the screen unstuck." But did you try rebooting the iPad?
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

  • Orientation Screen stuck upside-down and freezing

iPhone 6 Plus on iOS 8
My phones home screen flips upside down when the orientation moves around then freezes in that orientation.  It also happens while in the messaging app when it goes in landscape mode.  They only way I can get t back to normal is by shutting my phone down then turning it back on. Help!
Im wondering if this issue is a software problem/bug or a hardware problem?

I have been having this same issue repeatedly for the past few days as well.  My home screen as well as other apps like safari or messages also get stuck in landscape mode or upside down after unlocking my phone.  Since this issue is not isolated, Apple needs to address it with an update if it is just a software issue.  This is certainly annoying, and it is ruining my user experience.

  • TS3274 My iPad screen is upside down. How do I fix?

HHow to fix my ipad screen which is upside down?

You likely have orientation lock on.  Check the switch just above your volume control on the upper right hand side of your iPad and change it's direction.  Chances are your screen will now resume correctly.

  • Playbook Screen Stuck Upside Down

I don't know how to correct my screen. I have to hold it upside down with the power and volume buttons on the bottom, rather than the top when looking at the screen. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

There are orientation lock videos on youtube, like this one: http://youtu.be/ekh5tiHUzK8 , http://youtu.be/6uoQBbfh5uM etc.

  • When I open an ap or a safari page the screen tips upside down.  The screen doesn't automatically move to fit the direction the ipad is sitting

I have an I-pad retina.  Starting yesterday I noticed when playing a podcast video I could only view it with the screen in rectangular mode instead of the horizontal.  Starting today when I open an app or a page in Safari the screen tips upside down.  In other words, it doesn't follow the direction in which I'm looking at the screen, I'm constantly having to make the adjustment myself.  How can this be fixed?

First thing to try is to reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.

Here are links to four short MOV files showing the four orientations for the iPhone 4S. I had to upload them to DropBox for you as all of my available Cloud based mail programs choked on saving or sending these little video files.

I usually record hockey games in Landscape mode with the Home Button of the iPhone on the left side with the screen facing me. That is the mov file IMG_0063.MOV
Apple's QuickTime Player displays it correctly, while the VLC player, which ignores exif flags plays it upside down. So does the Plex Media streamer ignore the flag, so does the thunderbird mail app ignore the flag, and so on. Adobe looks at the exif flags so they get it right.
My movies are of four Post It Notes, each one describing the location of the Home Button. Take a series of four pictures oriented like my test MOV files , then take 4 short MOV files of the same iPhone orientation. If the results are "misoriented" then the software you are using to look at them is ignoring the orientation flages.

    JPEG Rotation and EXIF Orientation
Digital Cameras with orientation sensors allow auto-rotation of portrait images. Unfortunately, support for this feature is not widespread or consistently applied.
    Digital Cameras with Orientation Sensors
Many newer digital cameras (both dSLR and Point & Shoot digicams) have a built-in orientation sensor. Virtually all Canon and Nikon digital cameras have an orientation sensor. The output of this sensor is used to set the EXIF orientation flag in the image file's metatdata to reflect the positioning of the camera with respect to the ground. Canon calls their sensor the "Intelligent Orientation" sensor. It is presumably a 2-axis tilt sensor, allowing 4 possible orientations to be detected (shown in the left side of the diagram in the link above).

I am not entirely sure what the problem is from your description. Your saying that the display is acting like it is rotated sideways when it is not and the writing appears to be backwards?

  • Screen is upside-down.

My screen is upside-down in Windows, and it's not the monitor settings that did it. How do I change it back?

Right click on the desktop and select Properties, go to Settings, Advanced. There should be an Intel * Chipset menu, click that.
Somewhere on the menu should be a rotation setting. Check that it is set at 0 degrees.

  • My screen flipped upside down

My computer screen flipped upside down on its own and even rebootting does not help.  Anyone have a similiar problem?

Clicking on kudos didn't work, but I wanted to thank you nonetheless. I knew that approach but was so disoriented by the vertical 180 and by HP tech support's response that I forgot to try it. I bought a 2 year extension to the warranty and I'm still in the 1st year of the 3 (total). THEY HAD THE UNMITIGATED M 'n F 'n NERVE TO TELL ME I HAD TO PAY FOR 'PREMIUM TECH SUPPORT'. Those idiots are the new "Doolin Daltons" of the tech monsterscape. They're nothing more than hired guns who'll lie, cheat, and steal your $. I got a ditto from Lexmark for my Platinum Pro 905. Both HP and Lexmark are taking their lead from Microsoft. I think that we should have all seen it coming the moment 'Wild Bill & co. came up with their corporate name - do you really want to project the image of a "tool" that is both microscopic and flaccid? It was their last moment of unguarded (uncoached) honest talk. Thanks again for your help. David Lyle

  • Ipad screen stuck on Apple logo and empty progress bar.

My iPad screen is stuck on the Apple logo and empty progress bar. I have tried rebooting the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds but the screen doesn't change.

    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Can you turn the screen totally upside down on iPhone?

I would really like to be able to totally turn my iPhones screen upside down so that the home button is on the top and I can use it as normal or even lock it in that position. Is this feature already available? If so, how can I activate it. If not, then who would like Apple to issue an update. I really hate listening to music with the wire up the top of the phone stretching down because it's in the way and just breaks the wire sometimes as it is putting so much pressure on it.

The screen will only rotate in some apps.  The homescreens will not rotate at all and some apps only rotate 90°, not 180°.
If you don't see the Portrait Lock (circle with lock in it) in the upper right, your screen will rotate when applicable.
If you do, double-click the home button, swipe to the right and press the far left icon to turn off the Portrait Lock
