IPad 2 shows no cell service

A week or so after I upgraded my iPad 2 to IOS 8, it began showing no cell service, sometimes once per day, sometimes multiple times per day. I have found that the problem can be fixed by rebooting the iPad, but in the last couple of days, the iPad will show 3G service after rebooting but Safari and other apps will say that it has no internet connection. Rebooting again has solved the problem so far, but this is extremely annoying.

I can imagine running into cellular service issues after upgrading iOS on your iPad would be frustrating. I recommend taking a look at at the article linked below because it provides a lot of great troubleshooting suggestions that will resolve cellular service issues on iOS devices.

    Open contacts list, favourites should be at the top of list with stars by them, select  the one you want to unfavourite, long hold and a pop up menu gives you the options to call-send message-Remove from favourites_send as contact card-Delete-or Mark. Chose the option to remove from favourites and they won't show on home screen any more !

    I should be more specific.  The iPad does register Cellular Service with multiple dots on the upper left of my main screen.  However, there seems to be an internal "disconnect" because apps like Maps and Safari don't recognize or know there is an active cellular connection.
    When I go to Settings > Cellular Data and slide the "switch" to "ON" the Enable LTE "switch" becomes available and it "switch" it to "ON" also the Data Roaming "switch" becomes available and I slide it to "ON".   Lower on the Cellular Data page are 6 apps in "Use Cellular Data For:"  All but FaceTime are "switched" "ON". 
    Under Safari in the "Use Cellular ...:" is "System Services.  Pressing System Services brings up 15 "Services" beginning with "iTunes Accounts" and ending with "Software Updates".  All 15 have some amount of usage shown.
    Back on the Cellular Data page there is a listing for "SIM PIN".  When I touch the right pointing carat two lines appear.  The lower one labeled "Change PIN" is greyed out.  The upper one labeled SIM PIN has a slide "switch".  When I slide the SIM PIN "switch" to the right to turn it "on" a numeric keypad momentarily appears then, a moment later, the screen changes to the main page.  Double clicking the Home button reveals Settings remains open.
    I have removed the SIM Card several times and cleaned the contacts with a "Q Tip" and Isopropyl alcohol, rubbed the contacts with a Pentel Hi-Polymer eraser and again with Q Tip and Isopropyl alcohol.  I have also inserted and ejected the SIM CARD drawer several times attempting to remove any corrosion from the internal contacts.  Again, some portion of the iPad knows there is an active Cellular signal but apps fail to register the connection.
    Any further thoughts?

    I did a search today for a local doctors website and phone number using google.
    When I clicked on the site I was first directed to a "app" to buy ****.
    I closed the window and opened a new window and typed in the URL directly and then got redirected to to other **** sites.
    When I tried on the desktop computer, everything was fine and got to the website normally.
    I then cleared all history, cookies and web data.  Still the same redirect result going to the same website.
    I did the above and shut down and restarted. Still the same thing.
    I read about possible infected wireless routers where one of the tips was going to a different wireless network and see if it cleared up the issue.  So I turned off the wifi and turned one the ATT cell service.  Still same result.
    I am looking for suggestion on what to do next.

    Did you see where I said I used the Cell Service not wifi?  totally bypassed my wife router and its still doing weird sh_t
    I am on ATT cell service and when I open Safari, instead of a blank window, it defaults to the BING website.  This is totally bypassing the router and using cell service.
    I did a reset as per jazcan, installed 8.3 and still No Joy.

    There is no version of Excel for iPads.  iPads come with something that lets you view the contents of Excel files but it implements only the common easy features and there are (literally) hundreds of things you can do in Excel that it doesn't know how to show on the screen, including some functions.
    If you intend to work with spreadsheets on an iPad I suggest you buy Numbers for iPad

    which understands more (but still not 100%) of the things that Excel does.  It is so cheap that you can probably afford to buy a copy just to see whether it does what you want.
    If you are doing things with spreadsheets and intend to be primarily working on iPads then I suggest you actually use Numbers on a Mac as well, rather than using Excel at all.

    Yes it works. Initial position acquisition time may be longer, but works fine. Some applications download maps from the network. Unless your application has built in maps or the maps are cached, you won't be able to access maps or navigation feature. But GPS will work.

    Correct, a standard phone service will not provide internet connection. You need to talk with your cellular provider and ask for a data plan for iPads. Not a phone service.

    i bought my ipad 3 last year and it wasworking fine, the ipad started to have no service problem when i upgraded it. i can't turn off the 3G on my ipad for suere but the ipad only brings one bar of 3G netwok but will bring network where there isno 3g. this is really disturbing and i'm sure it is a software problem because lot of people have the same issue. plaese i just need possible solutions as quick as possible.

    Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)

  • Is AT&T's cell service truly as bad as I am experiencing?

    I have been a Verizon cusomer for many years and actually paid the $175 cancellation fee to buy my iphone at the full list price before the drop. I am not upset about that, I share it only for disclosure purposes. What has me really curious/frustrated is the lack of service quality. (the phone coverage, not the people) I routinely drop calls or show a "no service" in the screen. I cannot remember the last time I dropped a call with Verizon! Yet, I lose one in five calls and the quality of the ones I keep, isn't that hot!
    Is this a problem that is system wide? Or do I have bad phone? I have the 8 gig and plenty of free space... And the recent update...
    Help!

    AT&T coverage compared to Tmobile in LA/OC area is terrible. With Tmobile I never had dropped calls and I could hear the people I was calling loud and clear and vice versa. With AT&T I dropped many calls and every call I make is broken up, staticy, and it sounds like the person on the other end is talking in a cave.
    I don't make a ton of calls with this phone and mainly use it for email, Internet, and iPod so it's not a huge problem for me.
    However, I'm not convinced that the problem is entirely AT&T's network. I imagine some of these problems are with the hardware. My reasoning? Because I've had Sprint, Verizon, and Tmobile in the past. I've owned probably a dozen cell phones and some times the phones work awesome (so you assume it's the great network) but then you get a new phone and suddenly the 'service' is horrible. It has to be the phone. The only way I could decide for sure I guess would be to get another AT&T phone, swap my SIM card and use that phone for a while and see.

    I just got a new iPad mini and was planning to sync my iTunes library to it.  I've never had issues with syncing my iPod and I understand how to sync and choose playlists.  BUT: when I connect my iPad to my computer, the iPad never shows up as a device detected by iTunes.  ALSO: It will not allow me to copy over any music manually.  I would prefer to not use iCloud, as the iPad and the iPod are the only Apple products I own. I have already downloaded my purchased iTunes onto the iPad, but really would like to grab some of my imported files as well! 
    The only thing to note: when I last logged into iTunes on the computer, it found an update.  However the update did not complete and gave me an error.  I've tried multiple times to update it, but it keeps erroring out (does not say what the problem is).  Other than this, could there be any reason why iTunes on my computer doesn't detect my new iPad mini??
