IPad 2 sound problem, real problem!

So yesterday I was just going to watch a video and the sound was muted so I tried to use the volume buttons but they were not responding so I used the switch to unmute but that didn't work neither. Then I was going to use the volumebar that appears when you touch the video but it didn't show the volumebar, only the pause and skip buttons so today I tried other applications but nothing was working, not the volumebuttons, muteswitch and not the volume bar that should show up when you swipe the taskbar to the right. When locked, the volumebar that would show when you double-click the homebutton didn't appear...
Someone help me!

Start here.
1. Close all apps completely and reboot the iPad. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the recents tray will appear with all of your recent apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
2. If that fails, look in the dock connector port and see if there is any debris in there. Try cleaning it out with a soft toothbrush very carefully or blow on it and try to remove any dirt or lint... Anything that might be in that opening.
3. Try inserting earphones and remove them a few times in succession.

  • IPad 2 sound problem

    Ok this is my problem....
    iPad 2 on iOS 5.0.1
There is no sound coming from the speakers from my iPad. And when this happens, the volume slider that is usually found on the multitasking bar is gone as well. The manual switch on the side is used for orientation lock and the soft switch used for the mute is not turned on ( I have also tried switching them around but it makes no difference).
No sound comes when using apps, YouTube or music player....
The volume slider in apps such as YouTube, video app, music app is gone too.
Volume slider comes back whenever I plug in headphones but is gone again when unplugged
I have tried rebooting and restoring my iPad from iTunes (tried restoring both from backup and restoring as new iPad)
Anyone have a solution for this? Is this a problem with the software or hardware?

  • Ipad mini sound problem

Hello, my ipad mini that I bought a month ago was working fine when I first bought it. but now theres a problem with the sound. The thing is, at first i realised the game Sims sound was muted, although the volume is on, and then i figured the sound of messages, keyboard and mails etc was not working... i can listen to music and youtube works fine, today i realized that also at facebook app video sounds are muted. I beleive this is a operating system malfunction, what can i do to correct the problem... i am not sure but the problem may have started after the new ios update...

    hi JimHdk,
I solved the problem with a reply from another tread.
from settings i choosed to use the side swithch for to lock/unlock rotation of the screen.
and when i was doing that the swith was in mute mode. so i keeps it muted and i didnt know that this was the problem.  Now i set it back to sound setting mode and unmute the switch. everything works fine.
I guess apple should put another switch to control this under settings/general/side switch.
otherwise its so hard and confusing to figure that out while some apps have sound and some does not.

  • IPad 2 sound problems

I no longer get sounds ( alerts, keyboard, FaceTime rings,etc.). I have voice, so the overall sound works. Any ideas?

I assume that they are still switched on in Settings > General > Sounds. Have you got notifications muted ? Only notifications (including games) get muted, so the iPod and Videos apps, and headphones, still get sound.
Depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (mute or rotation lock), then you can mute notifications by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad, or via the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon far left; press home again to exit the taskbar. The function that isn't on the side switch is set via the taskbar instead : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4085

Head Phone Working , but out side speaker not working

    Hello faisal2502,
I would be concerned too if the speaker on my iPad was not working.  I found an article with some steps to take when you are experiencing issues like this (this article says iPhone in the title, but the steps also apply to the iPad):

  • Sound Problems on iPad: how to fix, easy [video]

    Hi dear iPad user,
Most people will, eventually, have sound problems: the cause can be complex as a 'miss-behaved' app that messes the sound engine or as simple as the iPad being forgotten on Mute/Volume Down.
I used to help family and friends to fix their iPads' sound problems by sending them 'text' instruction steps... lots of times they ended up calling me on the phone...
    So I made a video (short: 1m40s):
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FjBP-Ncj_fE
    It shows:
how to unmute the sound (even if the side-switch locks the rotation of the screen)
    how to put volume up
how to close all the apps (in the case there is an App messing with the sound system)
how to reboot the iPad (ultimatelly fixes hard cases of messed sound system)
What it won't fix: if you have a hardware problem...
If you do all the steps and you get NO SOUND AT ALL, please, try also checking if you car listen sounds using a HEADPHONE (you know are working conditions). If you can listen to sounds in the headphone but no sound at all in the iPad's built in speaker, well, there might be a hardware problem and you should look for help on an Apple Retail Store or other official technical support available at your location.
    Hope this helps!
    Everson.

UPDATE: fixing iPad Sound after iOS 7
    http://youtu.be/SDf1LDcE95Q
    (1min 36sec)
    It covers the basics:
    checking side-switch / mute / "Control Center"
    volume all up
    ...and also the worst cases:
closing all apps (for rare cases when a single app might render the sound system instable)
    rebooting the iPad
So, don't get desparete: try the things in the video.
There are people who reported having forgotten an audio-bluetooth connection activated with a turned-off sound-system or speakers... or forgot Air-Play turned on... so be sure you disengage bluetooth and/or airplay.
On the 'hardware side', dirty dock connector (30 pin) can make the iPad 'think' it is connected to external audio - if so, cleaning it with a dry toothbrush can fix. Also, moisture in the headphones connector can make the iPad switch to 'headphones' even without headphones connected, making it silent: check if you can hear things with headphones plugged in - if so, try gently inserting and removing headphones a few times and check if you get sound back to iPad's speakers alone.
Good luck to everybody! Audio problems are quite common - fontunately they are easy to fix.

    Thanks

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
iPhone: No sound or distorted sound from speaker
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts5180
To solve some sound problems, just follow these simple steps
    1. Go to Settings
    2. Tap on General
    3. Tap on Reset
    4. Tap on Reset All Settings
What this effectively does is to reset some of your Settings to factory default. It’s not a complete removal of settings. It removes all of your preferences for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Do No Disturb, Notifications, General, Sounds, Brightness & Wallpaper and Privacy. It doesn’t affect your data. All of your email accounts will remain intact, as well as any SMS text or iMessages.
     Cheers, Tom

no sound while watching you tube videos on my ipad. This is my second replacement ipad with same problem. No sounds coming out from the speakers, even after reset everything. Mute button is assigned for mute function instead of screen rotation lock.

    Hi herbie13!
It sounds like you will still want to link your iPad and computer, but you want to prevent the iPad from syncing information from your computer to your iPad. I have an article here for you that can help tell you how to set this up:
    iOS: Syncing with iTunes
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1386
You will want to follow the steps here to set up the iPad for syncing, but when it comes time to sync, you'll just want to make sure that the boxes for syncing the multitude of items that you can sync remain unchecked so that none of that information gets synced into the iPad.
Another note: your second Apple ID will not be able to access the apps, music, movies, tv shows, etc., that you have purchased under your primary Apple ID. Even though it seems that the secondary Apple ID still has access to those items, that is just because you are viewing your second Apple ID through the iTunes Store section on your computer and you have those items saved locally on your computer. You will need to repurchase and download all of the content that you wish to use again on your second Apple ID, if that is what you wish to solely use on this iPad.
Take care, and thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities.

  • TS3274 iPad 2 sound system problem on aps

Sound stopped working on some aps after iPad was updated. How to regain sound on these aps?

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Check your settings. The iPads have a small switch on the right edge. It can be used as a rotation lock to keep the screen from automatically reorienting itself as you move around, but you need to have the tablet’s settings configured properly. That same switch, right above the volume buttons, can also be set to function instead as a mute button to silence certain types of audio.
If the switch is set to work as a mute button, you can change its purpose to “screen-rotation lock” by tapping the Settings icon on the home screen. On the Settings screen, tap General on the left side, and on the right side of the screen flick down to “Use Side Switch to.” Tap to select Lock Rotation or Mute to set the button’s function. Even if you set the side switch for your preferred use, you can still mute the Mini or lock the screen. Just double-click the Home button, and when the panel of apps appears along the bottom edge of the screen, flick the row from left to right with your finger. Tap the icon on the far left side of the row to either lock the iPad’s screen or mute the iPad’s alerts, notifications and sound effects. Music, podcasts and video are not muted unless you turn the volume all the way down.

    Greetings,
    Questions:
    1. What version of the Mac OS are you running (Apple > About this Mac)?
    2. What version of the iOS are you running (Settings > About)?
    3. Do you use MobileMe/ iCloud or another server based sync solution like Google or Yahoo?
    4. Do other changes to synced information like Address Book content sync successfully back and forth?
Based on your description it sounds like you have a 1 way sync issue.  Events sync fine between the iOS devices and fine from the computer to the iOS devices but not from the iOS devices to the computer.
    Try:
Backup your computer and iOS devices before doing anything else:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1427
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766
Ensure all the devices in use are fully up to date: Apple > Software Update / Settings > General > Software Update
Make separate backups of critical data:
    Backup your computer Addressbook: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=AddressBook/4.0/en/ad961.html
    Backup your computer iCal: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2966
Reset syncing on your Mac: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1627
Reply back if that does not resolve your issue.
    Hope that helps.
