    Hi
You need to check with your ISP whether or not the send mail server (SMTP) requires a password.  Some do, but many do not.  When you know the correct password to send mail, then you need to tell Mail as follows:
Mail menu > Preferences > Accounts > Select the account
Click on the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) combo box, and select Edit SMTP Server List...
In the Account Information tab put the server name
In the Advanced Tab, set up the authentication information from your ISP.
    Good luck

  • Can receive but can't send mail via BT Yahoo SMTP server port 995

Suddenly I can't send mail from my BT/Yahoo account but can still receive mail. The message that i get is that it was rejected by the server. I have not changed the server - it is still SMTP via port 995, using SSL. Help!! Why should this have ocurred out of the blue and what do I do?

    Hi Dancing Brave,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I recommend starting with the steps in this article if you are not able to send mail:

  • Sending Mail to a Comcast SMTP server

Have a MAC PRO and MacBook Pro on the same network both running OS 10.8.2 with two identical email accounts having identical settings.  MAC PRO email accounts work as expected; able to send and receive emails.    However on the MacBook PRO, unable to send emails from either account, only receive emails. I have the same email problem when using the MacBook PRO on different networks, like a Hotel.
Consistently get an error message stating “the sender address [email protected] was rejected by the server smtp.comcast.net.”
Tried deleting the accounts, restarting and entering new accounts; reinstalled OS 10.8.2; but no difference in the problem.
Worked with several layers of Comcast support, trying all sorts of Port and SSL settings, and confirmed my password works on Comcast webmail, but cannot determine why I cannot send email from one Apple computer when the other Apple computer works as expected. All they could do is blame Apple.
What is different about the MAC PRO (early 1998) and the MAC PRO (15-inch Late 2011}?

    What was the SMTP error?
Comcast has messed up their outgoing server somehow.  I got a message about "The sender address [email protected]" was rejected by the server smtp.comcast.net." This of course is absurd, since YOUR E-mail address has nothing to do with sending mail.
If that's the problem, you're going to have to call Comcast and repeatedly escalate the case until you can find someone with even a basic understanding of how E-mail works.  I had to get a "supervisor" involved, and this person was still so ignorant that she had to call me back the next day after "researching" the problem and still proposing asinine attempts to resolve it.  And it never did get fixed, by the time I left the location at which I needed to use Comcast.
You need to insist that your reply-to address is irrelevant for sending E-mail.  If you're connected directly to Comcast's network (which you are when you're connected through your cable modem), you should be able to send through their SMTP server.  Period.  That's how Time-Warner and Verizon work, for example.  The first thing you're going to hear is "Well, you're not using your Comcast E-mail account."  IRRELEVANT.  And why would anyone use the obscure Comcast-assigned E-mail address in 2013?
    Good luck.

  • TS3899 Cannot send email from iPhone. Outgoing settings are correct. Checked against iPad setting which are OK and can send mail OK.

Cannot send email from iPhone. Outgoing settings are correct. Checked them against iPad settings which are OK and can send mail. What can I do?

    For IOS7.02
The user name and password are in two places. Make  sure they are correct in both locations.
    Settings>>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>>your email>>
First spot is here under INCOMING MAIL SERVER
Below this is OUTGOING MAIL SERVER
Select: SMTP smtp.comcast.net>> PRIMARY SERVER :smtp.comcast.net>>second location of user name and password
Here is the second place that the user name and password must be checked.
I had changed my password in the first spot, but not the second spot. I had been receiving the same error message. This fixed my problem.

  • Word couldn't send mail because of MAPI failure, Unspecified error.

This issue is crossposted in Microsoft Answers Word and OUTLOOK.  I am posting here in hopes that someone at Mircrosoft may have a solution or at least elevate the issue to someone who does.
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/officeversion_other-word/word-could-not-send-mail-because-of-mapi-failure/f62678fe-ef1d-42b5-8cfe-1e43d6a1d609
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office_2013_release-outlook/word-couldnt-send-mail-due-to-mapi-failure/1f03cf74-9258-411b-9e2b-e41cb5006d71
I dabble with VBA and write and maintain several amateur Word Add-Ins.  Accordingly, I have Word 2003, 2007, 2010 and 2013 installed on my PC.  They get along fine.  However, I am unable to "Share" or "Send" an open Word
document as an E-mail attachment in any version!  In each case Word returns an error mesage "Word couldn't send mail because of a MAPI failure, Unspecified error (the same issue occurs with Excel and Powerpoint except the error dialog is a bit different.)
Using Word 2003, I (CAN) "Send to (Mail recipient for review)" in which case OUTLOOK is opened with the document as an attachment.  I can also "Send to Mail Recipient" from Windows Explorer, in which case the Word file is attached to
an OUTLOOK message, and I can create an instance of OUTLOOK and send mail from Word using VBA.
I have repaired all Office versions.  I have removed the registry keys for all office versions and repaired all versions again.  I have run "fixmapi" until I am blue in the face. I have renamed the MAPI32.DLL files and ran sfc \scannow
to ensure that the MAPI32.DLL file is not corrupt.  In view of these actions and in view of what I can do, something tells me that the MAPI files are fine.
So what is this "Unspecified error?"  This problem is rife on the internet and most of the "canned" solutions have been marked "Answered" by some MS support engineer.  These "canned" solutions might have
fixed the issue at one point, but they don't work now.  At least not for me.
    Thanks.

    Hello Greg,
I noted that there are 2 knowledge articles that describe scenarios where you may encounter this error.
KB 291152 You receive a "Word couldn't send mail because of MAPI failure" error message when you try to send a Word document as an e-mail attachment in Word 2002
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/291152/EN-US
KB 929362 You cannot send a file by clicking Send in a different program when Outlook 2007 is running as administrator
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929362/EN-US
Please let me know the following:
    1. What version of Outlook are you using?
    2. Do you have Outlook open when you attempt the File > Share > Email as attachment from Word? If not, does the error occur if you open Outlook, open Word and then try to send the email?
    3. If you close/reopen Word and then try the send again, do you get the same error?
    4. Are you running either Outlook or Word in an elevated mode?
    5. What happens if you start both Outlook and Word as "Run As Administrator". You may have to right-click each applications' .exe file to be able to choose the "Run As Administrator" option.
    6. Do you get the same error when using File > Share > Email as attachment using Excel?
    7. In Internet Explorer, open the Internet Options. On the General tab within the browsing history, delete your temporary Internet files and website files
    8. Does the issue occur in selective startup mode?
Steps to setup selective startup mode:
Click on the Windows Start button, in the Search box type msconfig and then hit enter. This should open up the System Configuration Utility. Make the following adjustments within each tab.
    Services Tab:
      - Check the option 'Hide All Microsoft Services'
     - Click on button 'Disable All'
    Startup Tab:
     - Click the button 'Disable All'
     - Go back through the list and enable any Microsoft items
Click Ok. It will say “You must restart your computer for some of the changes
made by System Configuration to take effect”. Hit the ‘Restart’ button.
When the PC reboots try to run your test again.
To return back to a normal boot launch msconfig again and choose 'normal startup' on the general tab, click Ok and then reboot the PC.
    Regards,
    Dennis

  • The sound on my ipad 3 suddenly stopped working i dont know why i tried the last two days to fix it and also restored it and the sound never came back, please help.....

the sound on my ipad 3 suddenly stopped working i dont know why i tried the last two days to fix it and also restored it and the sound never came back, please help.....

Do you get sound on any apps e.g. Music and Videos but not others ? If you do then have you got notifications muted ? Only notifications (including games) get muted, so the Music and Videos apps, and headphones, still get sound.
Depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (mute or rotation lock), then you can mute notifications by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad, or via the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon far left; press home again to exit the taskbar. The function that isn't on the side switch is set via the taskbar instead : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4085

    Try the standard fixes:
    - Reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Delete the mail account from the iPod and recreate it
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.

  • I can receive mail, but I cannot send mail, my mobile broadband is 3 and my server is BT

I can receive mail, but I cannot send mail, my mobile broadband is 3 and my server is BT. I have been to the Apple Store today. They did not resove my problem. Can anybody help?

Try this. Check the primary outgoing mail server username and password and make sure that they are in the settings even if it says that they are optional.
Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > select the account > account name , tap on SMTP (under the 'Outgoing Mail Server' heading) and then tap on your Primary Server and try entering your email account and password and see if you can then send emails.

  • Send iCloud email from alternative smtp server?

How do I send iCloud email from alternative smtp server? The setting is 'greyed out' on my iPhone so I cannot tell iCloud to use another server.
The reason is so I can have my outgoing email appear from my own domain email address rather than my me.com address. Mobileme would allow this - and Mail on the Mac does allow it, but the iPhone under iOS 5 seems not to allow it....
    Any ideas?

I have spent about 4-6 hours working directly with folks from Tim Cooke's office, various support levels, and through them their engineers.
As much as I tried to convince them their logic is flawed, the engineers for iCloud come back and say this is expected behavior because somehow it helps secure iCloud from being a spam source. The fine and helpful gentleman from Cooke's office now understands how it is a MobileMail.app client issue, having nothing to do with iCloud servers (because we are in fact trying to bypass their servers) still totes the "it's expected behavior" line from the server engineers.
I have implored him to follow up with the iOS MobileMail app programmers and not the iCloud programmers. I am hopeful he will. Until then you have to choose between having iCloud push and losing your online identity, or losing push email and keeping your preferred address.
Fun to try: turn off all smtp servers. Send email. Gets stuck in outbox. Turn on your preferred smtp server. That one email will use your preferred alternate address, but subsequent ones revert back to the old .me.com smtp servers. Personally I believe this points to a client programming error more than reinstating a preferred behavior. Aggravating!
I spend $500 on a new phone. Google takes away my exchange client ability and apple makes me choose push email vs outgoing email address.

  • My ipad has suddenly decided not to connect to the internet. My WiFi signal is strong. My PC is connected ok through the same WiFi signal. I have tried pressing the home and off buttons to get the apple logo but this makes no difference

My ipad2 has suddenly decided not to connect to the internet either through Safari or email. My WiFi signal is strong and all other devices in my house are connecting ok. I have tried pressing the home and off buttons together to get the Apple Logo but this has not changed anything, still cannot connect. "Safari cannot open the page because your ipad is not connected to the internet"

I have done this and no difference
I have just realised what has caused the problem.
Yesterday I fitted an additional Homeplug with built in wireless N adapter ( I alreday have another type fitted from my main router position) The wireless system to my ipad is obviously "confused" . Having now removed the second homeplug and reset my ipad all is now ok

  • Ipad 3 email can't receive or send mail

My ipad3 retina display running on ios6 suddenly can't receive or send email anymore. I was trying to open pdf attachment in my email and got blank screen. Restart email and reboot my ipad, email still didn't come back. Anybody have the same problem?

It sounds as if you need to speak to your university's IT department to get instructions for properly connecting your Mac to their LAN and getting email service. It is some security protocol that you are not able to properly engage I think.

  • Mail suddenly no longer able to send mails

Ever since I upgraded to Snow Leopard, Mail refuses to send my mails via my standard provider. I get the error message that the provider rejected my password. Which is odd, since there is no password required to send mails.
Not being able to get this solved, I bypassed the problem by having Mail send my mails via my GMail account. I know, this is a bit awkward for the people receiving my mails, but it works.
Or at least, for the past few months it worked, and now, all of a sudden, I get the exact same error message for mails I am trying to send via GMail!
As far as I know, nothing has changed. I have not done any system updates recently (at least not in the last few days, and yesterday, Mail still worked properly).
When I had the problem with my provider some months ago, I browsed the support pages, but nothing the pages said, solved the problem. I fiddled about with my account settings until my fingers were numb and I had depleted every possible suggestion, but to no avail.
Anyone else experience this problem? How did you get it to work? Or is this a rather annoying bug in Mail that Apple needs to solve asap?
    Thanks for your feedback.
    J.

Please, turn off caps lock, screaming in your post is not necessary. What's your email client? Webmail? Outlook Web App? Try to delete the Firefox cache and test.
