Ipad 2 update Erased/deleted everything

I recently updated by IPAD2 and the update erased everything.  The restore function only restores it to about a minute ago when it said the last restore was happening.  The update I ran occurred yesterday.  How do I restore my photos and videos?

Im wondering can the apple store update my ipad 2??
Update it to what?
its not enough
Then you need to erase more.

    Morning AppleHlumamkhululi,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
In most cases, the connected iPod needs to be restored.
For more information on this, take a look at this article:

  • IBooks 1.1.1 update erases / Deletes / Hides all books on my iPad

I just upgraded to iBooks 1.1.1 on my ipad running 3.2.1
After the upgrade, All my books and pdfs are "missing" (I see an empty shelf)
This happened to me when I upgraded from 1.0 to 1.1 as well.
interestingly, When I connect the iPad to the Mac, itunes shows the thing having all the books on.
If I drag a single book from the books view in iTunes back to the iPad, it does a very quick sync, then all books and pdf's re-appear on the ipad.
Has anyone else seen this issue? (It upgraded on my phone just fine)

We are looking into this issue. Can you answer the following questions:
    1. How many books were on the device?
    2. If "a bunch", how long did you wait before you felt the books were lost?
    3. Do you remember how many epubs? How many PDF's?
    4. Does iTunes-sync see the books as still on the device? (the space meter along the bottom of the Summary Pane).
    5. Does adding (or removing) a book through iTunes Sync restore the books to the shelf view?
Can you also tell me what device / OS you are using? Thanks.
    Answers:
    Q1: 156
    Q2: ---
Q3: 116 were epubs, an additional 40 PDFs
    Q4: Yes
    Q5: Yes
MBP and an iPad - all with latest updates.
FWIW, the books came back on their own after I restarted my iPad. Last time they didn't until I re-synced. Hope that helps.

  • Ipad 2 update Erases entire Driver Software

    HI. Zalrohg.
Long time listener, First time Caller.
I got my ipad 2 a short time after the next ipad came out. I have a windows computer running on W8 and I have this lovely party trick where everytime I plug in and update my ipad 2 the update installs and then Erases the entire software within the Ipad, leaving a black screen with really small text that says "contact apple support at an apple store".
This has been going on for the entire time I have owned the ipad, and now the screen is having display problems and Youtube on safari doesnt work, giving me a black block over half the player screen and static on the rest of it. I would update it to see if that fixes it if it didn't currupt the device.
The people at my local apple store are part baffled and annoyed by this because I come in every few months with the same problem, and they fix it by reinstalling the software required to run the tablet. I feel like I own a $500 brick and I'm sick of this.
No coverage on the ipad, that was too expensive.
The people at the apple store said they can't fix the ipad display driver because they no longer carry Ipad 2.
    WHAT DO? ):<

Try closing the Camera app via the taskbar and see if it works when you re-open the app : from the home screen (i.e. not with the Camera app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Camera app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work also do a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • Updating without deleting everything on the ipod

Apologies if this is already written somewhere. I have itunes on two machines, and periodically, would like to add what's been purchased on one computer to what's already on the ipod and has been purchased on the other. But every time, the content that is on the ipod is not augmented by the update, it is totally wiped out, with only the new material remaining from the most recent update.
Thanks for any help with this.

If you're going to get music off of two computers you need to put your iPod on Manual update; connect your iPod to iTunes; go to edit; preferences; iPod; and click on "manually manage songs and playlists." Also you will need to click and drag your music/video to your iPod when on manual update.

  • The new update completely deleted everything on my calendar

    Far out, I'm so annoyed.
I went to check out my Calendar only to find it completely empty!
all this new gadgetry is on the calendar now, but all my dates are gone.
I LIVE from my calendar on this, and now I have NO idea.
    I'm soooo peeved off
Its meant to update not WIPE it..
the only reason I got the update was because my Ipod app kept closing its self off when I was trying to play music...

Calendars are synced from your computer or you MobileMe or Exchange account.
Just setup the sync again and be on your way.

  • My I phone went through the ios 6.1 update and it deleted EVERYTHING off my phone. it even deleted all of my backed up information, how do I get it back?

My IPhone went through the IOS 6.1 update and deleted everything. How do I get it back? It has done this every time there is a new update, and every time I have to redue overything by hand. please help me

The last step in the update process is a restore from the backup created as the first part of the update process.
Most likely, the update was not allowed to complete and therefore the restore did not happen.
Simply connect the device to the computer and restore from backup.

  • HT4972 Ipad update: Will updating my ipad delete everything on it?

It will be the first update of the Ipad to the new IOS 5.1.1 from a windows computer and I was wondering will it delete all of my apps, photos, high scores on the apps, basically will it delete everything?
    Many thanks
    Xan

Yes - erasing the device is part of the update process. But everything should be restored if you do it properly.
What you should do anytime that you update the device is to transfer purchases from the iPad into iTunes - File>Transfer Purchases - and you should backup the iPad as well. When you update the update the device, if something goes wrong, you can restore from the backup.
However, iTunes should ask if you want to backup before you update, but just in case create the backup yourself before you update. The backup contains your app data and settings - along with other items - so make sure you backup first.
If you have any other important files, you may want to transfer them to your computer as well, prior to the update.
    Transfer purchases.

  • My iPad mini won't install the latest update because there isn't enough stprGe. I have deleted everything from my iPad and there still isn't enough storge.

My iPad mini won't install the latest update because there isn't enough stprGe. I have deleted everything from my iPad and there still isn't enough storge.

Connect your iPad to your computer and run iTunes. Select your iPad in iTunes and try to run the update there. Updating requires a lot less free space on the iPad when updating through iTunes on a computer because the update files will be downloaded to and extracted on the computer.

  • I want to back up my iPad so I can changeover to the ipad2 but my pc doesn't have enough memory to allow me to update. I've deleted everything I can in order to get more memory but cannot is there any other way to do it?

I think you misunderstand... iCloud backups are stored in the cloud and not on the PC. So, if you do an iCloud backup, it won't take up room on the PC.
But, if you want to transfer the iTunes purchases over, set up Home Sharing. Also, see this link.
