IPad 2 - Upgrading to iOS 6

If I upgrade my iPad 2 to iOS 6 in Settings > General > Software update, will my apps, music and photos lost?

Your Songs, Apps should exist on your PC in iTunes, and if they do, they will be re-synced to your iPad as the last part of the update process.  The photos should be backed-up/synced to your PC as well, or they will be lost also.
If you don't make sure the contents are on your computer, expect them to be lost.

I have just upgraded my iPad 2 to iOS 6.0.1. I backed it up beforehand, but the upgrade has lost virtually all the applications, and their data as well as the music (which I backed up manually beforehand). Is there any way to recover this?

  • My iPad 2 (with iOS 4.3.3) doesn't find the upgrade to iOS 5/6

I have an iPad 2 running iOS 4.3.3. It's connected to a MBP on Mountain Lion (10.8.2) with iTunes 11.0 installed, with the Apple account that always has been used for that iPad signed in.
I can't find a way to make the iPad upgrade to iOS 5 / 6 (I don't care much, just want the Netflix app that's now requiring iOS >= 5 to work again).
iTunes just shows "Your iPad software is up to date", again with iOS 4.3.3 on the device. If I click "Check for Update", I get a file browser (presumably to manually find an update to install).
I even downloaded the full iOS 6 update manually through cultofmac.com (iPad2,4_6.0_10A403_Restore.ipsw), but iTunes won't accept it:
"The iPad (name of ipad here) could not be updated because the firmware file is not compatible."
I am out of ideas for how to make this software upgrade. Any suggestions are most welcome.

You can connect your iPad to your computer and directly click on Update or Restore in iTunes and it will do the rest. (if you have high speed internet). but there is another way to restore or update to higher versions. You can download the firmware file (.ipsw). Connect your device to the pc and open iTunes. Hold shift (in windows. In mac I think it is another key) and click on Update or Restore. A window will appear and you should browse and open the firmware file you've downloaded. Rest of the action will be done by iTunes.

  • Email links won't open after ipad upgrade to 7.0.4, any help?

Web links in my emails won't open after ipad upgrade to ios 7.0.4,  Any help with this issue would be appreciated.

Have you tried restarting or resetting your iPad?
Restart: Press On/Off button until the Slide to Power Off slider appears, select Slide to Power Off and, after It shuts down, press the On/Off button until the Apple logo appears.
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10 seconds).

  • After upgrade to IOS 8.3  iPad Air no longer connects to iTunes

Today I upgraded my Macbook Air to Yosemite 10.3 and my iPad Air to IOS 8.3
After upgrading the iPad I was asked to connect it via cable to iTunes in order to allow for wireless sync.
When plugging the cable in, the iPad starts sending endless alert beeps and the top line of the screen is shaking. On iTunes the error message "iTunes could not connect to this iPhone. This device is no longer connected." appears with every alert beep from the iPAD. No matter how often the OK button is pressed, the message appears rightaway again.
I made a full backup of the iPad Air before upgrading to IOS 8.3 but I am very reluctant to reset the iPad as the same error might come up when connecting the iPad after reset to iTunes and then I would not be able to restore it at all.
Does anyone had a similar experience and/or is there any known workaround?
    Many Thanks for any suggestion.
    G.W

Thanks for your further consideration, much apreciated. I tried a different cable, different port and did reboot and soft reset. I also did reset of settings on iPad, just in case.
As  I can with no problems use the same USB cable and USB port with my iPhone to connect to iTunes, the issue must be somewhat with the iPad Air and iTunes on my Macbook Air. I also can connect the iPad with the same USB Cable to iTunes on a different Macbook with no issues.
I think, best is to do a full backup on a different machine and then setting back the iPad to initial state, followed by a restore.
This I can (hopefully successfully) do with iTunes on a different Macbook.
Many thanks for you kind support.

  • IPad app no long works after upgrading to iOS 7.1.1

iPad app no long works after upgrading to iOS 7.1.1

Did you try deleting then reinstalling the app?  Sometimes developers will need to update their apps for compatibility.  If it still doesn't work after reinstalling, wait a few days to see if an app update becomes available.

  • Upgrading iPad 2 to iOS 8 Successfully

I thought that I'd report on the method that I used to successfully upgrade my iPad 2 to iOS 8.  Although the following procedure did take me longer that just kicking off the standard over the air iOS update, I always think it worth extra effort when upgrading something that I rely on every day (such as my iPad, iPhone, Macs, PCs, etc.).   I think that the following procedure is very reasonable and worked well for me.  However, your results may differ so follow this procedure at your own risk.  Note that I also have a colleague that just did a simple over-the-air iOS 8 upgrade of his iPad 2 and it also worked great.  Therefore, you certainly don;t need to go to the lengths that I do below, but I think it's worth it to get a very clean install with as little "baggage" from prior installs as possible.
I have now used my iPad 2 for two days and nights since upgrading to iOS 8 using the following method.  And, I am happy to say that my iPad 2 is working better than ever (iOS 7 prior), with no crashes of any kind, good performance, good battery life, and good WiFi and Safari performance.  Here are the steps that I personally took to install iOS 8.  I hope they help some of you that are having problems with your iPad 2s and iOS 8 and are looking for a solution.
I'm certainly no iOS expert so I hope to see some suggested improvements to this method from the many knowledgable posters on this forum.  Here goes:
    Cleanup and Prepare
Clean up your iPad including removing apps you do not use, clean up your photos and videos in your camera roll, and clean up the music and other content you sync to the iOS device.
Make sure that you KNOW your AppleIDs and passwords.  Make sure you understand which Apple IDs that you are using for iCloud, iMessages, and the Apple Store.
Make sure that you KNOW what your settings are for all of your other cloud/mail/calendar/contacts accounts (Google, Microsoft, DropBox,  etc...).
If you are still using POP email in 2014 then understand that you are going to either lose your email or need to download it all again once your upgrade is done!
If you use Google Authenticator app or a password manager then make sure that you understand the process of restoring these apps and their settings from a separate backup if something goes wrong during your iOS restore process
Make sure that iTunes is set to encrypt your iOS backups.  Doing so allows iTunes to store and restore passwords that you have stored on the iOS device.
    Prepare your iOS Device
iOS Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > Back Up Now (this will be a secondary backup just in case)
iOS Settings > iCloud > Find My iPad > OFF
iOS Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Accounts > and Delete Gmail, Exchange, and other "cloud" accounts that you can add back later
iOS Settings > Wi-Fi > and "Forget" each remembered network
    From iTunes on a Mac/PC
Make sure you have the latest iTunes version
Connect device by cable to iTunes on Mac (turn on the sidebar if not displayed)
    iTunes > Sidebar > Right-click device > "Transfer Purchases"
iTunes > Sidebar > Apps > "Update All Apps"
    iTunes > Sidebar > Right-click device > "Sync"
    iTunes > Sidebar > Right-click device > "Back Up"
Identify iPad version from back of iPad and look up common name from Apple Site: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5452
Downloaded appropriate IPSW file directly from Apple: http://osxdaily.com/2014/09/17/ios-8-ipsw-download/
Install appropriate IPSW file to iPad by holding "Option" key when initiating a "Restore iPad" from iTunes, select downloaded .ipsw file, confirm intention to restore iPad to iOS 8: http://osxdaily.com/2010/11/23/how-to-use-ipsw-files/
WAIT ... until the firmware install is completed
WAIT ... until the iPad reboots itself and then ends on the "Hello" page
Finally, swipe the "Slide to Setup", choose your language, region, and WiFi network, enable location services
Then choose "Restore from iTunes Backup", then wait for iTunes to bring up the "Welcome to Your New iPad" screen
Choose "Restore from this Backup" (check the date and time), click "continue"
WAIT ... for restore to complete, for the device to reboot, and then for the iTunes "Sync" to complete
Swipe, then click "continue", then type in the password for the iCloud account listed
    Agree to Terms and Conditions
Agree to turn on Find My iPad
Do NOT upgrade to iCloud drive yet (until Mac OS Yosemite is available and on your Macs)
iOS Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Accounts > add back your cloud/mail/calendar/contacts accounts (Google, Microsoft, etc...)
Enjoy your very clean iOS device
LASTLY ... Go to iOS Settings and go through nearly every setting to get familiar with the features of your iOS device.  If you find a setting that you don't understand then Google it.  If you don't need a feature, then disable it for better security and better battery life.

It's always excellent to hear a successful update account, for an iPad 2 with iOS 8 ... since many people who have been posting think this is impossible. From accounts like yours and the many others I've heard, it's entirely possible, if one does it the right way!
When someone is having trouble, though, after having already done the upgrade, I would recommend doing the following ...
Follow this procedure for a Troubleshooting Methodology ... basically reset to factory default condition -BUT- be sure to do the following methodically and also to follow the part with Apple Support!
First you want to make sure you have several backups of your data and done with a couple of "different" sources. Be sure to understand what data is backed up and what is NOT on iCloud Backup and iTunes Backup. Use a variety of methods for backup ... you might check into Dropbox, in addition to your Apple options.
Then turn off your desktop anti-virus software when using iTunes for this reset to factory default. After you do that reset, then leave your iPad in its factory default state and see how it operates then. If you encounter any problems in that factory default state, then take it to Apple Support, and let them know that you have just reset it to that state with iTunes and have not put any of your data back on and it is operating in this fashion (whatever the problem is) in that pristine state. Make sure you keep that trouble ticket number, because if it has to be escalated through Apple Support, you're going to find all communications tied in with that number. If the lower level help isn't able to help you, then escalate it to a higher level to examine the problem. Keep at it with that trouble ticket number until Apple Support arrives at a solution to that problem. Be methodical and keep at it.
On the other hand, if everything is okay with the factory default condition, then restore your backup. Some people have discovered that the problem resides in the apps or something in the restored backup. If that's the case, then it's going to be trying and difficult to find out which developer's app is causing you the problem. And ... it's true ... that a developer not following Apple's instructions and guidelines for his app can CAUSE YOU TROUBLE. This kind of thing does happen from developers, especially when a new system upgrade comes out, because some developers ignore what Apple tells them about changes coming, and what they do BREAKS SOMETHING.
This is a troubleshooting methodology that you are going through. See it through to the end.

  • How to upgrade to iOS 8.1 on original iPAD

I have an original iPad.  The current OS is 5.1.1.  When I try to upgrade using the latest version of iTunes on my PC using the "Check for Update" function, it says that "the version of the iPad software (5.1.1) is the current version" and doesn't offer me to upgrade.  Is it possible to ugrade to iOS 8 on the original iPad?

  • Unable to play some movie from Netflix on my iPad. When I click on a movie an error message comes up which says "cannot play movie. Please try again". Can anyone assist me? I just upgraded to iOS 7.1. Netflix not able to find problem.

Unable to play some movies from Netflix on my iPad. When I click on a movie an error message comes up "Cannot play movie. Please try again later." I contacted Netflix but have not been able the help so I am wondering if it's my iPad. I didn't have a problem before but I have recently upgraded to iOS 7.1. Also is a certain amount of storage needed to play a movie? About how much is that?

    Hello all,
I have an iPad 2 16GB with iOS 7.0.3 and Netflix version 5.0.2. I cannot watch netflix on an External LCD monitor that I have through VGA out. I use bluetooth speakers, so the AirPlay is going to that for Audio. Before this update, this combo worked without an issue.
So as of Friday Nov. 8/2013, I contacted Netflix support, and they said they fixed the problem on their end, and the fix is on the Apple side of things, and to contact Apple support.
So, I contacted Apple support, and the first person I spoke to said I would have to agree to pay a $35 fee for 30 days of support to this problem since my unit is out of warranty. I said this isn't a hardware issue, it's a software issue, and I'm not willing to pay to fix a problem you created. So I got a Senior Level advisor on the line, and she was helpful, and she's looking into the issue for me and said she'll contact me sometime on Tuesday or Wednesday (Nov. 12 or 13) to let me know of the issue.
Here's the thing: this is a combination of Netflix and iOS not working correctly with any of the Apple Authorized Dongles. This is truly a code error that some hot shot programmer had major oversight on, and their management didn't catch it either. There was no reason for Netflix to rush to get this Netflix update going until Apple sorted out the bugs in iOS 7.
Anyway, if I hear anything from Donna (the advisor), I'll post it and let you guys know. In the mean time, good luck!

  • Ipad 2 and Iphone 4 hybernates after upgrade to IOS 6

Hi , After upgrading my iphone 4 and Ipad 2 to IOS 6 , both devices go in "hibernate" mode after being idle for a while. The only way to open them is by hard rebooting. Have you expirienced similar problems ? Is there any solution to fix it ? BR Robert

Andrew is partially right.  With apps that are still running, they are running regardless of being suspended or not.  A restore should be her last option. as she will lose anything added since her last back up.  And there should be NO reduction in speed as the update was made compatible with all phones included in the update.
    I recommend the following.
1st, delete all apps on the phone that are not being used.  They take memory and speed since almost all apps run in the background checking for notifications.
2nd, go disable all notifications you don't need.  This will help with speed AND battery life.
3rd, location services....  Go adjust this... if you don't NEED it on, turn it off.  It will reduce usage on the phone, and again save ALOT of battery life.
4th, organize apps into folders.  this will ruduce "pages" on the phone, and increase speed.
    5th, clear browsing history.
6th, delete emails, texts, contacts that are not needed.  ESPECIALLY Spam folders!!  some of us never clear spam, and there could be a large amount.
7th,  Do a hard restart.  While the phone is powered on, hold the home button and power button down at the same time.  Keep holding while the phone suts down and keep them held down until the Apple logo reappears.
If this does not help, then she needs to take a record of all contacts shes added since her last back-up, email all photos taken since her last back up, so she can save them back to the phone,(DO NOT rely on photostream, because once the restore is done, those photos will be taken from the stream.)  She will need to do the restore off her computer and the update through iTunes.

  • Upgraded to iOS 6; No WiFi on iPhone 4S and now iPad 3

Upgraded to iOS 6 earlier today at work. Used their WiFi to update. Came home and now no WiFi. I've tried changing the SSID and changed from WEP to WPA and then back to WPA. After doing all those changes still not connecting.
I know some topics have said to delete the Safari history or whatever. Tried that and that didn't work.
I just updated my iPad 3 to iOS 6 and now it won't connect to my WiFi. I have a Netgear WGT624 v3 with the latest firmware. This is an older router but ALL my devices have worked with no issues until this update was released and install on 2 of my devices.
I still have an iPad, iPad 2, 2 other iPhone 4's and a 3GS to update and I'm not doing that until I have my WiFi working on the iPhone 4S and iPad 3.
What is the problem Apple? Its going to be weeks before they fix this issue.

Found a solution to my problem.
I'm using the Netgear WGT624 v3 router with the latest firmware. I searched online for Netgear issues with iOS 6 and found this link.
    http://www.davejackson.com/life/cant-access-wifi-with-ios-6-on-iphone-with-netge ar-wgt624v3-fix/
Basicallt I downgraded the firmware of my router and now the WiFi works. Just a temp fix until Apple address the issue. Then I will try to upgrade back to the newest firmware.

  • Can't sync my iPad 2 and can't open my newly purchased app after upgrading to iOS 7

Ever since I upgraded my iPad 2 to iOS, I have two problems.
First off, I can't sync my iPad 2.  This error message keeps popping up: "The iPad '(my ipad name)' could not be synced because the sync session failed to start.  My iTunes is the lates version 11.1.1.11.  I even tried to deauthorize the computer and reauthorize it.  I also tried to log out and log in again.  I also tried to re-install the iPad driver from the Device Manager of my Win 7 (browse to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers and click OK > next.)   I tried all possible ways suggested in the communities discussions but still can't get the sync to start.
Second problem, since I can't sync from the iTunes database, I purchased the app from App Store on my iPad.  After downloading the app, I touched the "OPEN" button but the app could not be launched.  This happens to all app's purchased after I upgraded the iPad to iOS 7, not matter the app is free or costs money.  Apps purchased BEFORE iOS 7 update can be opened without any problem.
    Any suggestion?

Just think of the third problem.  I can't do backup neither, so I dare not restore my iPad to its default as I didn't do the backup the moment before upgrading it to iOS 7 (which I regret very much now).  I have trusted Apple for years and didn't think of such problems could happen after iOS upgrade.

I have a "company provided Ipad" now using IOS 6.1.3.  the company Will allow me to upgrade to IOS 7 but not to IOS 8.  Is that possible?

No, since the iPad 2 is iOS 8 compatible it can only be updated to iOS 8.  Apple does not support upgrading to interim iOS versions, and removes those files from the servers when a new version is released.  The only path for that iPad 2 is iOS 8.0.2.

  • My iPad 2 was accidentally upgraded to IOS 7 from 5.1.1. I have a backup on my windows xp PC from last June 13 would this restore it back.

    Hello,
From purchasing my iPad 2 which had IOS 4 installed at new I upgraded to IOS 5.1.1 and had no intention of upgrading further missing out on the IOS 6 and the reviews of IOS 7 was a definite no no to me.
That was before my great-granddaughter age 8 was playing her games or colouring  because she has her own page did for some reason open up the settings app and the rest is history, when she said grandad there's something wrong and I went to look my heart sank and tried turning off both iPad and router but there's just no stopping it.
Everybody say's that I am now stuck with IOS 7.0.4 but I am not convinced because I created a backup of my iPad last June 13 in iTunes with IOS 5.1.1 and wondered if I could restore back to that backup.
Also while I am playing around with this new operating system what parts am I not able to run on iPad 2 that is in the full version of IOS 7.
    Regards

No, it will still stay as IOS 7.0.4

IPad 1 Safari crashes frequently. I went to many Apple stores in different countries and each Apple staff member had their own different opinions with no help. I had upgraded my iOS to 5.1.1 and the Safari crashing started about one year after the upgrade and some Apple staff blame this- but this started one year later after the iOS upgrade. Recently at the Apple Store in Vancouver an Apple staff reset my computer (erased everything and sent to iCloud to reset the iPad) and I hoped this would fix the problem. IPad Safari still crashes. Short of booking an appointment for taking it for repair to Apple technicians which will cost me money can anyone help me to fix this Safari crashing.

    Hi,
You might have a 3rd party plugin that isn't compatible with Safari 4.0.4. Go here for help...
Safari add-ons can cause performance issues or other situations
If you are using a USB hub, try disconnecting and restarting with just your keyboard and mouse connected.
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...
from the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset.
Mac OS: Web Browser Quits Unexpectedly or Stops Responding
Also, you could download and install the 10.5.8 combo update (PowerPC) available here.
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/MacOS_X_10_5_8_ComboUpdate
It contains fixes that might help. Then repair disk permissions.
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.
