Ipad 2 VGA - Mirroring?

HI,
The main page for Ipad 2 features says the Ipad 2 will mirror with the VGA cable, but on the specific Mirroring Page it only mentions doing so with the HDMI cable. Does it mirror everything through the VGA cable?

I got my iPad2 hooked up to a VGA monitor earlier tonight, using the standard VGA adapter that Apple started supplying when the first iPad launched. Mirroring worked just great - no frame loss, and all features supporting including full view of SpringBoard (the home screen) and rotation.
I made a short demo video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2PhPLz_WF2c
So, the conclusion here is that mirroring is a feature of the A5 chip inside the iPad2, and you don't specifically need the HDMI cable to make it work.
Hope this helps all the teachers and business professionals out there!
Paul.

  • IPad 2 vga mirroring does not work.

Please help.  I've just bought an iPad 2 to use in my classroom.  I bought the iPad->VGA-out adapter.  I've hooked it up to an LCD projector, and no joy.  I have "widescreen" enabled under video settings.  I also have a colleague here with me at the workshop who has an iPad 2 and he plugs his in and it mirrors immediately.  I cannot get mine to mirror.  Do I have a crappy iPad or is there a setting hidden somewhere that I can't find?  He and I are banging our heads against this one.  Can't figure out why one iPad works and the other does not.  Any clues?

Is this the cable that you have?

That's what you need to mirror an iPad 2
    Not VGA

    Hello-
I am trying to project a film from an ipad mini with a vga cable to a projector.  When tested, the film played, but the ipad did not mirror what was being projected, it was a black screen.  I am trying to be able to mirror the devices AND figure out how isolate the window so I can use different menus with the film still playing.
Any one know an app or softward that i can use?
    Thank you!

To move an iPhoto Library to a new machine:
Link the two Macs together: there are several ways to do this: Wireless Network,Firewire Target Disk Mode, Ethernet, or even just copy the Library to an external HD and then on to the new machine...
But however you do choose to link the two machines...
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
Then hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'
and select the Library that you moved.  That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.
Your first option didn't work because you imported one Library to another. Every version and thumbnail is imported like a distinct photo, you lose all your Albums, Keywords etc., the link between Original and Previews is destroyed, the non-destructive editing feature is ruined and so on. In summary: it's mess.
Your second option didn't work because you simply referenced her library on the old machine.

  • How to get iPad sound while mirroring to a display monitor?

For a presentation, I'm mirroring my iPad display using wifi into an AppleTV connected to an HD display monitor. Like most monitors these days, it contains no speaker to receive the iPad's sound. Unfortunately, it appears that when you mirror, the sound emanating from the ipad's speakers and earphones is cut off, so I have no app sounds to go with my presentation.
Anyone know any way I can get sounds from the iPad apps while mirroring onto a display monitor?

Yes, RMPS, an optical-to-analog converter seems so far the only way to do this, unless one wants to pay twice as much for a speaker-equipped display monitor. It would be nice though, if Apple software would provide the choice to keep the iPad audio "on" while mirroring.
Fred*M, the VGA adapter did not work for me although I tried it. It does allow the monitor to display certain iPad pictures or movies, but it does not appear to mirror everything on the iPad screen.
I don't happen to have a Bluetooth device: does anyone know whether Bluetooth is turned off also during mirroring?
    Thanks all.

VGA is an analog signal HDMI is digital. A simple cable would not work you would need something that converts the analog signal to digital.
A search of VGA to HDMI turned up a few possibilities but nothing specific. In any case the picture on the TV will not be very good given the source.
You should check to see if the TV has a VGA input. Some TV's have a computer connection port and this is usually VGA.

  • IPad 2 hdmi mirroring doesn't work for videos

Ok, am I the only one who can't get the display mirroring to work on iPad 2? I plugged the hdmi adapter in to the iPad and got the Home screen to mirror, but when I played a video using the 'Videos' app the video displayed on my tv, but not on the iPad. iPad just showed a message 'your video is playing on your tv, (paraphrase). I would appreciate any help.

Ok folks. Here was my deal. After trying my AV adapter unsuccessfully on 3 different hdtv's, I decided to take my HDMI adapter back to the Apple Store today. They swapped it out, no problems. Now, I simply plug in the HDMI cable to the adapter then the adapter to the iPad and voila - mirroring works. Upon further investigation (asking the dude at the Apple Store), there was a bad batch of the AV-HDMI adapters.
So if ur having problems, consider swapping your adapter out.
    Good luck!

  • HT201335 Is there a technical reason why the first gen iPad will not mirror?

I have a first gen iPad running 5.1.1
I had 5.1 and that did not work either.
A new 2012 apple tv and no go on the mirroring. My iPhone 4a mirrors. Why can't the first gen iPad

    See Lee wrote:
I think the newer iPads have a 5 or 5x chip set.  What are they using in the first gen?
I never thought of my iPad as slow
I couldn't tell you off the top of my head.
Yes iPad 1 still seems good for me too, but the 3rd gen is noticeably smoother in use.
Absolute specs are really irrelevant - Apple have not allowed the iPad 1 to mirror and that's that - pretty much like older Macs pre 2011 not being able to do so due to lack of a CPU feature.

  • IPad will not mirror iTunes account on PC

My iPad will not mirror my music library. Tried deleting all songs in "On this iPad" on my PC. My PC says there are no songs on my iPad but my iPad still has and plays them all.  Rebooted both the PC and the iPad. The setting "Show all music" is in the off position.  Any ideas?

I didn't get any replies here! In the meantime I went to storage and found music and wiped all my music and am starting over. Will keep you posted

  • VGA Mirror for iPad (1)

Question to the Apple-Team: are there any plans to make the mirroring of the VGA-out possible like it is on the iPad 2? Only marketing-reasons could speak against such a solution. A lot of users will be very happy wih this feature!

This is a user-to-user forum, Apple does not listen here.

  • HT4972 What app will disable the iPad 2 from mirroring with a VGA adapter?

Updated my iPad 2 to OS 5.1.1 and now the VGA adapter will not mirror.  Are there any apps that will aslo disable the mirroring?

The iTunes and App store are slower than death at the  moment, but there used to be a 'featured in the commercial' tab when you go to the App store via iTunes. I can't get there to confirm for some reason, but perhaps that could be a place to start looking.

  • HT201335 iPad Air airplay mirroring windowboxed display

When airplay mirroring to a projector using Apple TV 2 and an HDMI to VGA adaptor I wide black margin all around the displayed screen.
Anyone know why this happens and how to get the mirroring to use the whole display area?

    Hi Andrew.
I'm afraid that's expected behavior when using VGA.
An iPad has a screen ratio of 4:3, a standard WS TV has a screen ratio of 16:9 so it's never going to fit exactly since the TV screen is wider than the iPads and consequently black bars are needed at each side of the iPad screen image to fill the TV screen.
If you then project the 16:9 output to a VGA display (which has a screen ratio of 4:3, again the 16:9 image won't fit and will require black bars top and bottom to fill the TV display.
The Apple TV does offer 4:3 resolutions in it's output options but they may not show up if the projector isn't telling the Apple TV it supports them, which might be the case with VGA since it doesn't support bi-directional communication.
Check the Apple TV output resolution settings to see what resolutions you are offered. Alternatively check the manual for your projector, there may be some sort of zoom feature that will help you.

  • IPad with VGA Adapter Problems

Does any one have any clue how to get the ipad to transmit video when hooked up to VGA (via its adapter). Yes all connections were fine, in keynote and presentation in play mode. Help urgently needed! THanks!!

    Hi Guys,
I don't know if someone mentioned this before but if you watch the iPad launch video of Steve Jobs' presentation it sure looked like he was mirroring his screen during the presentation.......I think that is why so many of us believed that the iPad WOULD be functioning the same way in are hands.
Sooooo either Steve and crew orchestrated a hoax by simulating a screen mirror functionality (which I do not believe) OR that functionality IS available and will be part of an OS upgrade in the future. I know, I know...if that were true why not just make the mirror capability immediately available? Who knows, but watching Jobs use the iPad on stage made me believe we could do the same.
I tried to use mine today with little luck. I hooked it up to a digital projector. I have successfully used this projector with my MACBook Air in the past. When I plugged in my iPad and turned it on the projector showed NO sign of recognizing my iPad. I opened Keynote to my slide presentation, still NO response. I re-checked the cable, still NO response. I exited Keynote; HOWEVER, I don't believe that I ever tried the full screen presentation mode so it may have worked. I will Try it again.
I then tried to play some movies. I had movies I ripped as well as iTunes downloaded movies. I first tried a movie I ripped.....amazingly the projector recognized something was attached for the first time and started playing the movie! Then I tried The Matrix (downloaded from iTunes). The projector would ONLY show a still from the movie and a message appeared on my iPad screen stating
"This machine is not authorized to play this content"
When I disconnected the cable the movie was able to play on my iPad....reconnect the VGA....the movie froze and the message reappeared.
I also agree that the connector is not that stable. Older iPod cables used to 'lock' in place and needed you to depress two buttons on the cable to remove it. That would be very handy here BUT it would increase the risk of damaging the unit if the cable were kicked.
    Thanks
    Joe

  • IPad/iPad 2 VGA Adapter

I have a VGA Adapter for the iPad and it only works when I plug it into an iPad 2. The iPad one does not ever get found by the projector. The Porjector supports 720p and 1080p. Are there two types of VGA adapters? Did I buy the wrong one? The Firmware for both iPads is 4.3.1

When you say iPad do you mean iPad1? The iPad1 with VGA connection does not mirror the iPad screen like it does for the iPad2. The iPad1 only displays out the VGA cable with apps that support VGA out. Also, what is display out the VGA cable does not mirror the iPad1's screen.

  • IPad 2, VGA adapter, iOS 6?

I need to use a projector in a meeting to have the participants view my iPad 2 screen. Looking at the description in the Apple store and the reviews posted there I have some questions that I hope someone can help me with.
    1. According to The Apple Store description the VGA adapter will allow mirroring of whatever is on the iPad 2 screen to the projector. Is this indeed the case.
    2. Several reviewers indicate the VGA adapter does not work with iOS 6. Anyone using the VGA adapter with iOS 6 successfully?
    Tanks,
    Ralph

Lats year, one of our execs using an iPad2 successfully connected to our Epson PowerLite 83C projector, but after upgrading to IOS 6, the iPad gives us an error message saying the connected accessory was not supported. We had an HP LCD projector available, and his iPad sucecssfully connected to that model the first time. It seems to be hit or miss depending on the make and model of the projector involved, but I thnk it's safe to say that the upgrade to IOS  6 was the reason the Epson is no longer recognized.

  • How can I display my macbook to ipad(s) using mirroring

There are plenty of times when I want to show the people in a meeting what i'm looking at or doing on my laptop. If they have an ipad, is there a way to "mirror" my macbook to their ipad(s) directly without signing in to skype/google+/any other video sharing and sharing my screen?
I saw the app reflection, but that goes the other way.
    Thanks!

You can't. You can order replacement discs from Apple provided your model is not considered obsolete. You can also buy a copy of Snow Leopard:
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8.
