Ipad 2 when plugged in won't charge...what to do?

I plug in my ipad2 to the USB port (2.0) on my laptop and it indicates that it is not charging.  There is a circle with an arrow and a lock symbol inside the circle.  This icon is located just beside the not charging display in the top right corner.  What to do? I have 29% left and am baffled.  Please help!

Use the power adapter and plug the iPad into a wall socket in order to charge it. The USB port on your computer isn't supplying enough power to charge the iPad.
The lock icon indicates that the screen rotation is locked. Read this article about the side switch.

My iPad when plugged in says not charging.....how can I fix this?

Some USB 2.0 ports and accessories do not provide enough power to charge iPad. When this occurs the message "Not Charging" appears in the status bar next to the battery icon.
Hence it is always recommended to use the iPad charger.

Bring it to an Authorized Apple Repair Center.  They will likely help you replace it.

  • My I phone won't charge, what might be wrong??

If the iPhone won't charge when connected to the power adaptor or when connected to your computer, the cable may be bad.

You can either put them in "Flight Mode" ( Found in settings. This feature disables 3G, 4G and Wifi), or you can go into your settings and turn off mobile networking ( also found in settings, this allows you to connect to wifi, but disables mobile networking)

My original Ipad is dead and won't charge at all. I've tried numerous chargers. How do I know if the iPad is "broke"?

Aside from taking it in to a certified Apple Repair shop, this may be a sign that it is dead.  Or there could some kind of damage to the connectors on the charge port.  I am guessing on that part because I am assuming that the other chargers you have used work for other devices.  It may be time to look into buying a new one if it is dead.

  • My ipad with retina display won't charge after ios7. I have purchased a new cord and adapter but it won't charge at all or even recognize that it's plugged in most of the time. Help!!

My iPad is less than a year old, still under the one year limited warranty, though since I don't know the exact problem, I don't know if my problem is covered. I have spoken to AppleCare agents 3 times, during all of which my conversation was cut off. In my last conversation I was told to do a complete reset, which I have now done. Problem is, I am now stuck on the set-up screen, as I cannot get above a 2% charge, meaning that my ipad cuts off long before I'm able to do a restore using iTunes, iCloud or even set it up as a new device. So, basically, I now have a $600 coaster... and I'm not happy about that. Especially since I'm nowhere near an Apple Store. I also bought the iPad at Wal-Mart, which I guess was a mistake, because once 30 days have passed, they couldn't care less about helping me. What do I do now? And please, don't throw a bunch of technical jargon at me.. I won't understand it and it'll just frustrate us both if I try. Thanks!
p.s. I'm not 100% sure what OS it currently has, though I do believe I was able to update it to 7.0.3 or possibly 7.0.4 through iTunes, though I can't check it now.
p.p.s. I have always used the charging cord and wall adapter that came with the device to charge it. When this problem first occurred, I also purchased new, exact replicas of both of these, which, obviously, made no difference.

That's one of the weird things.. it recognizes it maybe 10% of the time. And usually, only after I do the two-button reset. Problem is.. since it won't charge above 2%, anytime I try to do a restore or anything like that using iTunes, my device shuts off and I lose whatever progress I'd made.
So, an update... after reading through a bunch of similar complaints (there are literally 1000's of them so there's NO WAY this isn't somehow ios7 related, thanks a lot APPLE ) I decided to try a restore in recovery mode. After 3 hours and several disconnections... I ended up having to just set it up as a new iPad, as the restore did nothing. Weirdly though... as I was doing the restore in recovery mode.. I noticed I'd gotten up to a 10% charge.. higher than it's been since September, so after setting it up as a new device, I turned it off and plugged it in using the wall charger. 2 hours later and I was up to 38%. Still not great, as my iPad, before ios7 could've fully charged twice in the amount of time it took for me to now get 28% more of a charge. And that's with a fully cleaned out device.. so that really ***** and I'm now more confused than ever.
But I'm gonna leave it overnight charging and see what I come up with tomorrow. Sadly, when I paid $600 for it in February, I never expected to have to play "wait and see" with it...

  • IPad battery drained overnight; now it won't charge; what do I do?

My iPad (first issue) drained overnight and now it won't charge. Totally dead.
    What shall I do?

    Hello Christie,
With it still plugged in, try a hard reset to see if that helps.  To do this, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.  This may or may not work the first time around, so be sure to try this at least a couple of times.

  • My iPhone 4S is not charging when plugged into clock radio. What's wrong?

So about a week ago, I docked my iPhone 4S into my Sony ICF-C7iP clock radio as I do every evening before going to bed. I bought this clock radio back in August and have had no problems with it at all. However this time, I noticed my phone was not charging. It didn't make the charging beep nor did it show on the display that it was charging. I tried removing it & re-seating it...nothing. I tried rebooting my phone which resulted in the same problem. When I plug my iPhone into either a standard sync cable or an iPhone dock, it charges/syncs as normal.
Suspecting the problem was with the alarm clock, I contacted Sony support. The clueless support rep on the other line suggested I return the clock in exchange for a refurbished one. For a $60 clock, this was more trouble than it was worth, so I decided against it.
I then decided to purchase an iHome iA9 which was sure to work. I just unpacked it and set it up. When I docked the iPhone on it...you guessed it...nothing. It is still not charging. The funny thing is that the iPhone will play music through the iHome with no problems. I had also tried plugging the iHome into a different outlet with no luck either. I am out of ideas. I am left to assume that for some reason, my phone does no longer like charging when docked on to an alarm clock.
Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions on how I can get this to work again? I recently upgraded to iOS 5.1 and honestly don't know if that would have anything to do with it. But the likelihood of 2 completely different clock radios exhibiting the same problem is virtually non-existent.
As mentioned, I tried rebooting the phone with no luck. Docking the phone to a standard charging cable plugged into the wall charges the phone fine. Docking the phone on an iPhone compatable dock charges the phone fine. Is the problem with my phone?
Thank you in advance for your assistance!

Tim, I was speaking generally. Obviously the iOS upgrade didn't remove the ability to charge on ALL 3rd party devices, else my iH9 wouldn't charge it either.
What I just can't understand is how an old iHome model works just fine with a new iPhone, yet a new iHome model will not. If anything, I would think it would be the other way around.
Anyway, I emailed iHome explaining my situation and I asked if they had planned on releasing a firmware update to fix the problem. I got the typical generic response about unplugging the iHome & removing the batteries for an hour then trying again. And if that doesn't work, send it in for repair in which I would need to pay for the shipping.
If I decide to go that route, I think it's just going to be a waste of time as I would get the iHome back "repaired" and it would have the exact same problem. But I guess I'll never know until I try.
I remember reading on these forums about several others having the same problem. So what are the odds that the iHomes these other people got who are experiencing the same problem are problematic as well? Unless the "repair" iHome is referring to is a firmware update, I don't really buy into this.

  • My iPad won't charge what is wrong?

My iPad does not charge what is wrong ?

Are you using the charger that came with the iPad? And do you have that plugged into a known good wall outlet?
If yes then there are very few things that can be wrong.
    1. Bad cable. Try a different cable.
    2. No power to the outlet.
    3. Bad charger. Try a different charger.
    4. Charging port has lint or dirt in it. Check and carefully clean if necessary.
    5. Software failure. First thing to try is to reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.
    6. Hardware failure. Make an appointment at an Apple Store to have your device examined by a technician. Or contact Apple Support.

  • My iPad Retina 4th Gen. won't charge Help!! :(

Please refer to the details below:
Device: iPad (4th Gen) WIFI + Cellular 32GB (No External Damages)
Accessories: "Brand New" Genuine Apple Lightning Cable 1M and 12W Adapter (Bundled w/ the iPad)
    iOS Version: 7.1.1 (Latest)
    Scenario:
My old cable broke so I decided to buy a new one, but then when I tried to charge my iPad using my newly bought cable and my 12w adapter, my iPad won't charge! I've tried the cable on both orientations since lightning cables are reversible yet to no avail still my device won't charge. At first, maybe it is my 12w adapter that is broken so I tried another good known 12w adapter but still my iPad won't charge. Running out of options, I called a friend who has a newly bought iPad 4th Gen and tried out my accessories, her iPad is CHARGING!! actually it fully charged her iPad! So my accessories are really working fine! Tried my cable and 12w adapter to different lightning devices and all devices where charging and syncing. I've aslo tried to plug the ipad to my computer using my newly bought cable and surprisingly it is charging and detected by itunes. But I know it really takes time charging on the computer and I'm really confused why my iPad will charge on a computer but NOT when using my adapter plugged on a wall socket which practically is weird since it is confirmed that my accessories are working. I've tried other brand new lightning cables still it won't charge on the wall using the adapter.
    Isolations Made:
    12w adapter = Confirmed Working
    Lightning Cable = Confirmed Working
iPad (4th Gen) = Already done "Cleaning the ports" ,"Restart" , "Reset" and "Complete Restore including DFU Restore"
Buttom Line: iPad will charge on the computer but NOT on the wall socket using the 12w adapter and same cable

    - Did you everset up yur iPod on the "new" computer? To do thatyou need to either mrestore the iPod from a backup on the computer or restore the iPod to factory defaults/new iPod.
    - Is the computerauthorized for the iitem in the iTunes library?
    - Is the iPod signed into that account?

  • IPhone 4S only powers on when plugged into a wall charger, stuck in bootloop

Today I went to get my phone's screen fixed. At first, the problem was that the phone was rebooting every 3-4 minutes. Then, after it died, it doesn't power on anymore, except when it is plugged into a wall charger. However, it is stuck in a bootloop, where it shows the apple logo for about 7 seconds, then the screen goes black for about 5 seconds, then repeats. I can't unplug it or else the phone goes dead, and plugging it into my computer results in the same deadness. I've tried DFU Mode, Recovery and everything else when plugged into my computer, but it remains dead and black screened. The phone is not picked up at all, it doesn't power on or anything. It only powers on when it is wall charged, but it will bootloop. I can't get past this, and there is no way I can restore it. Help?
