IPad 2 wifi only able to buy data plan?

I caught the tail end of a Geek Time radio discussion, I thought they said I could buy an app that would allow me 3G or 4G data plan? If so, how, and how much data would it take to watch an hour of Netflix or simply browse the web? I can't simply buy a new iPad, but would love more mobility.

A WIFI only iPad will not be able to use cell providers 3G or 4G service. You can buy a WiFI with radio (att or verizon) model and not use their service. Perhaps what you are referencing is some sort of app to connect to other providers with radio enabled ipad. You can also connect prepaid if needed otherwise keep off. I don't know har far you would get attempting to connect to other cell providers. 3G would be more probable than 4G despite most switching to LTE. Each LTE provider has different frequencies.
I have a verizon LTE MIFI device and used with my laptop and ipad2. I actually swaped out the MIFI today with ipad 3 as the device. Verizon lets you use the ipad as a hotspot.
The speed of built in LTE radio will blows away the MIFI. Verizon claims this is a WIFI limitation but I don't completely believe that since the speeds are within WIFI bandwidth range. In Orlando, over this last week, I have gotten speeds 30mb/s download, 16 mb/s upload. I never saw this with the MIFI. I hear mixed reviews on LTE thus far but overall I'm quite pleased with my verizon LTE service.
That said, LTE can be fast which makes you more prone to watch movies on it or do other bandwidth consuming things .. and consume your data plan. I have the 10 GB plan. I watch a fair amount of netflix or the many broadcasters (NBC,ABC, CW, etc) that have now have apps but use WIFI when I can. I usually am around 5 GB a month. I actually would most likely consume less but since I am paying for it .. might as well use. Paying prepaid has same price plans and keeps from commitment.
I would suggest you download netflix movie on your computer .. find an app that can calculate your bandwdith for the movie. That would give you an idea. Or .. email their support and ask them.

Why is my internet speed slower on my 4g iPod touch compared to my 1g iPad (Wifi only), though we use the same router?

i bought my 4g iPod touch just 3 months ago fromt the US. Internet speed was just fine and working consistently while i was using a d-link router.
my Wi-Fi network is password protected and since has not affected the speeds on my pc or my iPad (wifi only). However, just 4 weeks ago, i bought a new router, an Aztec one. That has not improved or worsened the speeds on my pc or iPad, but worsens only my iPod touch, even though it says its connected and has a full signal strength.
Here are the symptoms:-
1. iMessage is now really slow as after i click send, the loading bar at the top lags.
2. i can't go on to google or any site or app that involves internet connection e.g. Facebook, Twitter
3. I can't purchase or get apps from the App store as the searching takes way too long.
4. Now as i pull down the notifications bar, it shows temperature but no stock; i can't even access the Stocks app
5. I can see the temperature for the day on the notifications, but i cant see the details for the rest of the week like i was able to
6. I now cant read any updated emails on Mail as it takes way too long
I live in a country called Brunei, and speeds are the worst there, yet they shouldn't be this slow especialy when my friends and other devices are working.
So, what's wrong? Is it my new router?

Have you tried a simple reset of your iPod to see if that helps? To do this, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.
Otherwise, have you tried any of the troubleshooting mentioned in this Apple support document?

Apple don't do trade-ins, they will only potentially replace your iPad with one of the same generation/spec - in the US that will be $249 for the iPad 2, and $299 for the iPad 3 and 4 (and Air).
Or (and if it's offered in your country) you might be able to get something for it from Apple via their recycling programme e.g. in the US : http://www.apple.com/recycling/ .

I´m trying to activate iMessage on an iPad Wifi only(no 3G), but it fails saying there´s a problem with my network connection, the same network i use my iPhone 4 where iMessage seems to be activated.

I´ll have to find out what´s wrong, because Safari does work. I must say its a Ad Hoc connection with my PC at work, where the network uses proxy. But navigation on Safari works fine on the iPad. I´m going into Setting - Messages - and there it asks me to put password and start the session. After sometime it says the session couldn´t be started.

Disabled iPad - WiFi Only - MDM Unlock Possible?

We have about 100 WiFi only iPads controlled an MDM. If a use forgets their unlock pin on campus (while they are connected to our WiFI) we can use our MDM to remotely unlock the iPad. However, if the user locks themselves out at home and then brings their iPad it in a "iPad Disabled. Please connect to iTunes." state, the iPad does not reconnect to our WiFi and so our only choice is to wipe and restore. (Most of our users that get locked out do not have iTunes setup on a desktop.) Is there any setting we could use to make even a locked iPad attempt to connect to our wireless network? Being able to remotely unlock instead of wiping would save us much time and trouble. I would not mind using something else (like apple configurator) to unlock the iPad locally. I just don't want to have to have wipe as my only unlock option. This problem occurs on iOS 5 and 6.

How would I go about using my Droid X2 as a Wi-Fi only device? I want to downgrade to a 'dumb phone' but yet I would still like to keep the Droid X2 to play games, browse the Internet, etc. all over a Wi-Fi connection - essentially use it as a tablet.

Just activate the basic phone on your line. This will automatically de-activate the Droid X2. You should still be able to use it as a wi-fi only device.
Be sure to log into your MyVerizon account to confirm that you no longer have a data plan associated with the line. It should be cancelled when you activate the basic phone, but you should check just to be sure.

Does anyone know if the wifi chip in the wifi only ipad and ipad 3g are the same? Sometimes all the radios are on one chip which might indicate a totally different chipset for the two ipads. I am having trouble with slow internet speeds on my wifi only ipad. My iPhone 4 and Core i5 iMac are on the same network and are just fine. I've tried disconnecting and reconnecting from network, forgetting network and rebuilding, ipad hard reset, airport reset....nothing seems to help. Try ... Tap Settings / General / Reset / Reset Network Settings

If Resetting Network Settings doesn't make a difference, take your iPad in for service.

Yes you can if:
1: Your cellular provider offers a data tethering option.
2: You have subscribed to this option.
Speed will be as it is with your existing iPhone.

Has any one used the verizon iPad in Italy with a local data plan?

I am plannign a trip to Italy. I have a VZ ipad 3rd gen. I would liek to use a local data SIM for Italy. VZ is $25 for 100MB. I think TIM is about 9 eoro for 1GB.

I can think of a couple of ways to do this. For small volume applications you could hard code the expiration date into the application prior to the build. At startup you could then check for a valid reistration code (this could be coded into an ini file) and then, if not registered, perform the appropriate task depending on whether the period has expired. You may also want to check during operation (say, for instance, every hour) to prevent continued use of the program by leaving it running. You could put a button on the front panel which is active an visible only if the program is not registered to allow for writing the registration code.
The second way is to include the start data in the ini file and have the evaluation period hard coded. This method is l
ess secure, although you could invent an encryption style for the date. Otherwise implementation would be similar.
I'm not familiar with the 1way.dll software so I can't give you any guidance on how well that approach would work.
