IPad 2 will not charge shows nothing in screen

Havnt used my ipad for about 3 weeks and have come to charge, when I initially plugged it in to charge I just got the screen with the apple Logo and the sign showing connect to power.  When I did nothing happened and now there is nothing on my screen and none of the buttons work.  Anyone have any advise?

Could be the charger, cable or iPad. Plug the USB cable into your computer. It may say "Not Charging", however, it is charging slowly and will verify that the cable is good. If your computer/iTunes does not recognize the iPad, then the cable is probably bad.
Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. Does the charger get warm at all? Plug the cable into your computer with iTunes open. Does it say not charging.? If it does, the cable is good. The iPad will charge very slowly when pluged into your computer.

  • HT4060 My new ipad 4 will not charge with wall adapter.

My new ipad 4 will not charge when I plug it in with wall adapter? It shows the low red battery, the charge sign but also shows the plug in sign. The plug in does not go away.

If the battery has been completely depleted it may take more than an hour before the iPad becomes responsive again. Leave it on the charger overnight. If it does not charge up by the next morning make an appointment at an Apple store to have it looked at.

  • My iPad air will not charge connected to my monitor or my computer. Why?

My iPad air will not charge connected to my monitor or my computer. Why?

Short answer:  Computer USB ports don't deliver as much power as the power adapter that comes with the iPad.
    Details:
Full size iPads come with either a 10W or 12W power adapter.  The mini comes with a 5W power adapter.
See iPhone, iPad, iPod: Using iPad Power Adapters
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4327
    USB ports on computers deliver 2.5W (USB 2, 500mA x 5v) or 4.5W (USB 3, 900mA x 5v).
Newer Macs with high power ports can deliver 5.5W (1100mA x 5v).
See Apple Computers and Displays: Powering peripherals through USB
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4049
If you connect your (full size) iPad to a computer USB port, it may charge slowly, but since it's getting less than half the normal charging power, it may say "not charging".  It may charge slowly or it may not depending on use (screen brightness, processor load, etc.).  If you really want to charge it from the computer, put the iPad to sleep.
The best charging solution is to use the Power Adapter that came with the iPad.

  • HT5172 iPad Air will not charge on my computer

iPad Air will not charge when I plug it into the USB port . Operating system vista.

That's normal. Most USB ports don't put out enough power to meet the iPad's requirements. It may say not charging although it is getting a trickle charge.
Your iPad is best charged with its supplied power brick plugged into the wall.

You probably using a 5W charger. Use the 10W charger that comes with your iPad.

  • Ipad mini will not charge or turn on

ipad mini will not charge or turn on, I have tried rebooting and also charging from wall. Apple icon doesn't appear even if I leave plugged in for an hour

Well my problem is now solved, both devices are bricked, Apple Store replaced both devices today, After talking with my daughter had the iPad mini was charging and it updated iOS8.1.3 and then bricked, tried all the things you suggested with both devices.  Yes, I agree about not letting my devices die, this was the first time my phone had died in 5 months but I firmly believe iOS 8.1.3 was the cause of both devices demise.  Apple checked both devices and promptly replaced both in about 30 minutes.  I hope this is not the way Apple is planning on continuing with software updates.  I have 10 apple devices and have been a strong supporter of their company, but these kind of half done updates are the reason I removed all Microsoft products from our household 7 years ago!

  • HT1414 my ipad mini will not charge from wall socket and it will not show itself on i tunes via my pc... i have also substituted my power charger from my i-phone to no avail.

my daughter's i-pad mini will not charge up from the wall socket and it will not show itself on i-tunes via my pc... i substituted the power charger from my i-phone to no avail with the wall socket... seems like i read that the earlier i-pads have some problems with the lightning socket but can not remember exactly...there is no apple retail shop in the small city where i live but would travel to one if the fix is relatively quick or easy...otherwise, what can i do for diagnosis and repair?

Most likely your cable is bad and you need to get a replacement.

  • IPad 2 will not charge or be recognized by iTunes

Ok... before anything is said, I have read basically every thread here and elsewhere regarding this issue. I have reset the iPad and done everything else many times over.
The problem here is not exactly that my iPad will not charge no matter what. If I plug the device into the wall it DOES charge, albeit very, VERY slowly and the lightning bolt sign does not show up. I left the device plugged in and off for two consecutive days and the charge went from 2% to about 40% in that time and then drained very quickly once I used it.
As I said, the lightning bolt does not come up even though the device knows that it is plugged in. After one of the resets I did, the lightning bolt came on and the iPad appeared to be charging very quickly. A few minutes later the cord got knocked just the tiniest bit out of the port and when it was plugged back in fully, the lightning bolt did not appear and has not come back since after many resets.
It also refuses to be recognized by iTunes as well as my computer entirely, even while it is in recovery mode.
I recently upgraded to iOS 5.1, began using iCloud and began using iTunes match, dont know if these things have anything to do with this.

I also have the same problem, could you expound in detail how theresolve

  • IPad 2 Will Not Charge with Apple Charger, Soft Reset, Full Restore, etc. Advice is greatly appreciated!

    Hi Everyone,
Thank you in advance for your help.
I have an iPad 2, which was purchased online in May 2012. My iPad will not charge - the upper right-hand corner shows a charging symbol, but the iPad does not gain power. I have tried the following:
Charging the iPad with the APPLE USB cable and APPLE wall plug provided with the iPad in several different wall outlets
Charging with another, alternate apple cable (in case the apple cable I was using wasn't working)
Charging with an non-apple cable and plug into a wall socket
Charging the iPad with an apple cable into my Mac
Charging the iPad into a non-apple laptop
Performing a soft reset, by pushing the home button and power key down until the iPad reset (tried this several times, before and after full restore)
Performing a full restore, which involved updating my iPad to version 6.0, wiping the iPad clean, and then restoring it from a back-up (tried this several times)
Charging the iPad while completely powered off
Letting the iPad completely die, and then charging it - it took me several weeks to get any power back and for the red charging symbol to go away - I did this by leaving it plug into my non-mac laptop for several days, after which it finally charged it back to 14%, showing the "Not Charging symbol" the whole time.
Removing my case off the iPad (in case the case was blocking the proper insertion of the USB cable)
Blowing on the iPad port to remove blockage from dust, etc.
At this point, I'm not sure what else I can try. I combed the support threads thoroughly to ensure I didn't miss any other options, but I am hoping someone else may have thought of something I didn't try. I know that the fastest way to charge the iPad is to use the 10w USB cable provided by apple, into an outlet. I have tried this several times - it doesn't work. The charging symbol shows up in the right hand upper corner, but the display does not show a charging battery, and the iPad does not increase in charge.
I do not live in a city with an Apple Store, so I am hoping you all can provide me with a solution, as it will be a 10+ hour round trip to get this resolved in person, in store.
Your patience and assistance is appreciated.

When you say " tried to reset it ", does that mean you tried holding down Home and Sleep till the screen went black and a white Apple logo appeared? That usually resets my batteries and lets them reach 100% charge.
If all fails and the device has a few years on it, the battery may very well be dead. Happens to all rechargeables. A trip to the Store for assessment will be inevitable to check the charger, cable and device. And if needed, a battery replacement alternative will be offered.

  • IPad 2 will not charge!

I have an iPad 2 and after the 7.0.3 update it will not charge. It has completely died and it will not reset. I have plugged in the charger from the wall and my laptop but it doesn't charge. It shows that the charger is in but all I see is the battery on red. I have charged for more than a day and it still does not work. I have tried to reset it and also tried to restore on itunes but it will not work. Is there anything I can do or I have to take it in to an Apple store? I do not have warranty anymore. I have kept this iPad in perfect condition without ever dropping it.

  • TS3274 ipad 2 will not charge and home button does not work. batter at 39% so cannot upgrade over wi-fi. What can I do?

my wife's iPad home button has stopped working, in addition it will not charge either through usb or the wall.
She uses it to read novels mainly and has not mishandled it.
    Any help is appreciated.

I realize that you said that the home button is not working, but try this anyway.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. See if the battery will show that it is charging after the iPad starts up.

  • My ipad 1 will not charge, unless I plug it in, and then turn it off for the entire duration of its charge. If I turn off my ipad and then try and charge it, it just turns on and will not charge. It will also not be recognized by my computer. Any help?

So, I have an ipad 1 as shown above. Recently it froze so I followed Apple instructions and held down the home button and the sleep button until it reset. A couple weeks later I noticed that it would not charge with either the wall plug in or usb plug in. I discovered that it would charge only if it was completely dead (up to 5% and then it stops charging) or if I plug it in via wall plug, then turn it off, and leave it off until it is completely charged. It will not charge if it is on. I have followed all of Apples help/troubleshooting and it still hasn't worked. This would not be such of an issue, but now I have learned that the ipad will not be recognized by itunes and cannot be updated. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks

Make an appointment at your local Apple store and take it back. I think there's some sort of hardware issue going on and they are the only ones to handle it.
