Ipad 2 Wireless Range Sucketh?

Ok, I love my new Ipad 2, but someone please tell me the itty bitty wireless range is not a hardware issue? I can only use the Ipad in the same room with my router or I lose all bars until the connectivity disappears and Ipad cant even find the network. I dont really need an Ipad in the same room as my laptop. I bought the device because it is small and portable.
Any clues on how to improve the range?
Realy disappointed in my $700 toy.
iOS 5.0.1 on a fresh Ipad 2.

the range on my iPad isn't as good as my Touch, but it should be better than that. You don't have it in any sort of case that would block/impeed the antenna? as I understand it, the antenna is behind the Apple logo on the back.

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are drooping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

  • Problem w/ wireless range with Time Capsule

Recently set up Time Capsule to swap out my Airport next to my Imac. Also have an Airport Express set up in another room to help extend wireless range. Found now that the range with Time Capsule is not as good as the Airport setup and I can't use my Ipad in the bedrooms furthest away from the Time Capsule. I'm not very tech saavy but would appreciate any suggestions? Thx.

When you set up TimeCapsule did you create a closed network? With a closed network, airport doesn't broadcast the network name, you have to manually enter it to join. This might be your problem. To fix it (or to see if that's what you've done) run Airport Utility and select manual setup. Select the Wireless tab and then click on the Wireless Options button at the bottom of the window.

You can only add songs to your iOS device from iTunes via Wi-Fi sync or via your cable, not Bluetooth.

That's an entirely different issue, unrelated to your iOS devices.

  • IPad 2 WiFi Range Issues (but not issues with connectivity when in range)

Okay. I hate to start a new thread when there are bunches of threads on the iPad 2 having WiFi problems (particularly with 5Ghz networks and also related to 4.3). Nonetheless, I'm not seeing anyone talking about range in these forums.
Issue: iPad 2 WiFi range is not as far as iPad 1 (with no cover on either).
Alternative Explanation: iPad 2 has difficulty connecting to Airport Express or Time Capsule extended networks.
Devices: iPad 2 3g, iPad 1 3g (iOS 4.3), iPhone 3gs (iOS 4.3), iPhone (iOS 3.2x), iMac, MacBook Pros, etc.
Network Router: Simultaneous Dual-Band Airport Extreme (latest version) set up with 2.4, 5 ghz and Guest Networks (each with their own name).
Network Extender: Airport Express (latest version) extending the 2.4 ghz network
Network Extender 2: Time Capsule (original, single band) extending the 2.4 ghz network
Longer Description: iPad 2 connected without an issue to the 5 ghz network and the 2.4 ghz network when it was in the same room as the Aiport Extreme. Didn't have any issues maintaining that connection.
However, the iPad 2 doesn't work in any of the farther rooms and can't see the network. iPad 1 and iPhones have no issues (and typically show 1 or two bars). I believe they typically are connecting through the Airport Express (but it could be the Time Capsule).
Given that the iPad 2 isn't even seeing the networks, I'm guessing it's a range issue, but hoping it's not.
Anyone else seeing this? Any fixes?

While it is possible that an Apple moderator (Apple host) could pass some information to an Apple development/support group, in practice this doesn't really seem to happen (at least often). I believe that the moderators are kept quite busy just administering the forums and keeping them under control (no spam, ads, abuse, etc.). I've never seen a post by an Apple host here or seen a technical correction to a post (and there is certainly a lot of incorrect information posted here).
Unfortunately, a lot of new posters here seem to think that they are talking directly to Apple and post bug reports, feature suggestions, complaints, etc. These would be much better submitted via the Apple feedback vehicle at http://www.apple.com/feedback. These are not anonymous, are directed to the appropriate product and provide an email contact for Apple to get back to the submittor if more detail is required.

  • Is it possible to show a presentation from the original iPad via wireless on an older projector with no HDMI input?

is it possible to show a presentation from the original iPad via wireless on an older projector with no HDMI input? If so, what equipment is needed?

The ipad not support wireless projector yet.
The workaround is you are using computer that connected wirelessly [needs 2 wireless adapter] / via cable to projector and connected also to the wireless router.
You are controlling the computer via wireless connected to the router using remote desktop app like splashtop, teamviewer, logmein, vnc, etc. You must set the remote desktop port and app at the computer too as ipad app support.

  • POOR wireless range

I have a white 13" macbook which i bought about 6 months ago. We have the new BT home hub wireless router (the black V.2 model). I can get the network no problem in the adjacent rooms but as soon as i go upstairs i get nothing. Can anyone explain why my range is so poor??

    Hi sutton185,
    Welcome to the forum.
There are a lot of variables that can affect the "performance" of the range of your wireless router. Location of the router, interference from other electronic equipment (telephone, TV, radio etc) and walls are just some that immediately spring to mind.
In these situations, one of the first things I would do is change the wireless channel and/or the location of the router. If the symptoms still remain, you may need an additional wireless router (like Apple's Airport Express) which will be configured in WDS mode and act in extending the wireless range.
To change the wireless channel you'll need to log in to your router. With the BTHomehub simply fire up a web browser and enter 192.168.1.1 in the URL field. Click on Advanced... in the left list and Advanced... again. The default username is admin and the password is admin again. Then select Wireless from the Advanced submenu on the left and on the right, at the top, you'll see the following menu items: Settings, Encryption, MAC Address Control, Repeater. Ensure that Setting is selected and from the drop down menu in the Channel field select a different channel and click Apply. You may have to experiment with different channels; try Channel 11 first and work from there.

  • Given wireless range of Time Capsule is 150', will this work? Put DSL modem on phone line in garage, connect ethernet to small office bldg (125') and connect separate ethernet to main house (200'). Time capsule on each end (or Airport Express)? Thx

Given Time Capsule wireless range is 150', will this solution work? In detached garage, connect DSL modem to phone line, then connect ethernet cable to DSL modem and run 125' to small office bldg. Connect separate ethernet cable to DSL modem and run 200' to main house. Put time capsule or Airport Express in each bldg resulting in separate wireless networks in each? Thanks.

This will work very well. You can run a CAT5e (or CAT6) Ethernet cable up to 330 feet...or 100 meters...with virtually no signal loss.
CAT6 costs a bit more, but will handle next generation Ethernet speeds, so if you have a choice, suggest that you opt for CAT6 cabling.

  • HT3574 Iphone 4 to ipad mini wireless via personal hotsopt

    Hi
I have an Iphone 4 and am planning to buy ipan Mini wireless.  My question is, can I be able to connect to my Ipad Mini wireless to internet via Iphone 4 personal hotspot?
If yes, another query is, while I have connected to internet via hotspot, and in between if am getting a call in my iphone 4, the internet connection on my ipad will resume and disconnect?
    please help me
    KP

Yes, to your first question, as long as your wireless carrier supports it and you set up the plan and pay for it.  You can see more details in the "Using personal hotspot" article mentioned at the bottom of the HT3574 article you attached.
Regarding your second question, the answer is completely up to your cellular carrier.  The question is whether your carrier will support voice and data usage simultaneously on your iPhone.
    Ask your carrier.

  • Can you do visual mirroring with an ipad 2 wirelessly?

Is there a way to do this wirelessly yet?
Are there particular projectors spec'd to do this?

    Possible, but not fun.
    Check it out:

Basically, you're doubling the weight of the iPad.  This is definitely a science project at this time.  I'm sure someone will come up with a much sleeker option, but if you really need it now, this is the path you're looking at.

  • How to shorten wireless range

I have a linksys BEFW11S4 ver.4  i want to shorten the wireless range. Anyway to do that?

You could try removing the two antennae (spelled with 'ae' intentionally) depending on how short you want / need the range to be and see if
    a) it works that way
    and
    b) the range is not too short that way.

  • Can I run a cat5 cable to a 4 port hub from a cisco router then connect one of the hub's output ports to an airport express to 'extend' my wireless range?

Can I run a cat5 cable to a 4 port hub from a cisco router then connect one of the hub's output ports to an airport express to 'extend' my wireless range?
    Flow would be
Cable modem---->cisco e2000 wifi router (This is broadcasting wifi but not strong enough)---->4 port hub ---->airport express (to extend the wifi in another part of house)
    thanks!

Yes, you can do this as you stated. In essence you will want to configure both routers for roaming network. Please check out the following Apple Support article that describes this type of network. Although this article uses two or more AirPorts, it can be done with just about any manufacturer's router.

  • Deploying a Flex iPad App wirelessly without registering a device's UIUD

    Hi
Is there any information or step by step guide to building and deploying a Flex iPad app wireless, without registering the device's ID? Is this possible with Flex? We do have an iOS Developer Enterprise Program license. Every set of instructions from a Flex point of view that I have read assume that either 1) The release build will be deployed through iTunes or 2) the release build will be deployed to device who's ID are registered on the Apple dev center. Any help would be appreciated.
The problem is that when attempting to install the app on a device that is not registered on the apple site, an error occurs stating that the app was unable to download/install.

    Hi Emanuele,
In your case, SUP would provide the development tools, framework and APIs to easily handle the authentication, synchronization etc. You wouldn't need to define your own synchronization mechanism, it's in the product. Now if the updates are only sent from the server to the mobile devices, this shouldn't be to difficult to handle even without SUP.
You could easily create REST Web Services using Gateway and then consume them using the mobile devices. You don't want to consume SOAP Web Services using a mobile application, trust me. You could do this using the ICF (Internet Communication Framework) to  achieve this but again it would be easier with Gateway.
You don't necessarily need SUP or Gateway to create only a simple mobile application. But then if your customer is happy with their first mobile application, they'll want more. And then products such as SUP or Gateway can make the difference. These products prodvide a standard development environment, tools to manage the apps and the users etc. With multiple mobile apps connected to multiple back-ends with more and more users, you'll need a middleware to manage all this and make sure the performance is great.
Usually people don't use SUP or Gateway for their first mobile application but then they start to see the benefits of mobility and they want more. And then they start to realize the benefits of these products and they understand that a real mobile strategy has to be defined etc.
    Regards,
    Pierre
