IPad 2 with iOS5 Music Track Gray

Hi,
I recently updated my iPad2 to iOS5. The update seems to have worked fine, but I am having a problem using the Music App.
All the music tracks are grayed-out. I cannot tap a track to play a song. I can change views (Playlist, Songs, Artists, etc) but everthing it still gray. Also in album view I do not see any artwork,
If I connect to my iTunes library via Home Sharing, I can play music. It just seems my local files cannot be played. I went into iTunes and stop it from syncing music to the iPad which erased all the files. When I re-established the music sync, it copied the music files back, but still appear gray.
Not sure what is causing this. Videos synced from iTunes work fine. Just music. Any suggestions.

I'm not sure if you've been successful with playing music on your iPad yet but here's what worked for me. This morning I discovered that my whole music library was 'greyed out' and nothing would play at all after installing the shiny new (flawed and bugged) IOS 5. After unsuccessfully trying a hard reboot (holding the sleep and home buttons for about 10 seconds, ignoring the power off prompt and letting the iPad completely shut down, operating system incuded) then everything bar a complete wipeout and restore to factory defaults I tried this and it worked:
First I synched my iPad with my iTunes via the USB cable. Then I unticked the 'synch music' tab, which will basically delete all of the music from your iPad on the next synch which I then did. Then I ejected the iPad from iTunes and performed a hard reboot (see above). To power up again hold the sleep button down for a few seconds and you'll see the Apple logo. it should then take about 20-30 seconds to reload and be ready to use. I then reconnected to iTunes, went to the music synch tab. Ticked the box to put my entire music library back on the iPad and synched again. Depending on how much music is in your library or how much you put on your iPad it could well take hours. I've only got about 5GB and it took over 2 hours. Anyway after it had synched and put all the music back on the iPad, I tried and all of it is now longer 'greyed out' and plays like it's intended to.
If you haven't been successful yet then it's worth a try. It may well work for iPhones too if the music has already been backed up on iTunes. Hope this helps.

    I was able to get this to work for deleting single song, but it simply ignored me when I tried to delete whole albums or artists. As there are many thousands of Christmas tracks, deleting one by one was not an option.
    When I first started to research this I was not able to find any posts on the subject (because I did not know about the left swipe to delete gesture and so did not search for it). Now that I know I found this post which gives a number of different ways to do this:

    At first I tried this option:
    If you are trying to batchdelete all music on an iOS device, it can be done.
    1) Settings > General > Usage
    2) Let the Storage settings load.
    3) Click on Music...on next screen, swipe anddelete.
    That does zap everything, but it suited my purposes. At first I though this was working, lots of tracks started to go back into the cloud (although this does not happen allat once, it seems to do it in the background over a period of time). The usage screen said I had free space on the iPad, but when I plugged it into iTunes the iPad showed as full and the tracks were all still listed under music.
    So I tried this:
    You can turn off iTunesmatch and then sync a very small number of tracks via iTunes, which shouldreplace the downloaded tracks with the synced tracks. Then turn Match back on.It's a pain but that is the only way I have found to mass delete.
    Which did the trick, but is something of a nuclear option.
    Looks like Apple have some work to do here. Deleting a track at a time or everything in one go is too clumsy. You need to be able to delete Albums, Artists or Genres in the sameway you can delete songs. I wish there was a way of reporting bugs like this to Apple, but short of signing up to be a developer, there does not seem to be away. If anyone reading this is a developer, perhaps you can get a paste the text into a bug report.

    I have a new iCloud setup and i setup a aliases to it. On the iPhone5 I can setup the aliases as my default email address but on the IPad2 I have to select it each and every time.  How can I make it the default

    I'm glad to know I'm not alone with this problem.  My company is upgrading to Exchange 2007 the first week of November.  I'll respond to this message with the results of that upgrade.

    If reseting it doesn't work, make sure you have a good backup and restore it. Connect it to a computer with iTunes, hold sleep/wake and home button until it says connect to iTunes on the iPad display, it should also pop up on your commuter that iTunes sees an iPad in restore mode. Follow the onscreen prompts for the restore. As I said make sure you have a good backup on iCloud or iTunes because the will erase the iPad and reinstall iOS.

    I have just upgraded my iPad2 to iOS5 and everything was working great but i have noticed one problem. I have setup my iPad to do exchange for m.gmail.com. And i have no trouble receiving emails in those accounts. But when i tried to send a "test" email to my icloud email address, it doesnt go through. I can see the email on icloud.com. But not on the iPad2. I have already enabled the "mail" Services for the icloud.
    Anyone else have the same problem? Or possibly a solution?

  • Newb help on creating photo slideshow with different music tracks

    I am interested in ultimately creating a DVD for a friend with pictures of their family. I would like to have different soundtracks play with fading in and out if possible; different effects on the transitions too (if possible). With iLife I know you could just use iDVD and play 1 track in the background. I would like to try iMovie.
    I couldn't find any support tutorials or information in Apple Support.
    Can anyone tell me or direct me to a place that would give the steps for a slide show, adding music, and exporting to DVD?

    While this can be done totally in iMovie '08, my preference would be to add the audio using GarageBand.
    1) iMovie '08 strategy: In iMovie '08, simply create your video slideshow track first. Once satisfied with the video, titles, transitions, start adding your audio. Simply drag an audio file from the media browser or "drop import" a file from the Finder and "pin" it a your video clip. Once pinned to a video clip, adjust the "in" and "out" handles to select the exact portion of the music you want and adjust the fade in/out if necessary. When you have finished with this, slide the music to align it with the video track as desired. Now repeat theses steps to add the rest of your music.
    NOTE: I prefer pinning all of the music to video clips so I can control the overlap. (I.e., have one file fade out as another is fading in.) However, there is a problem if you want the music to start during a "title" segment which does not overlap the actual slideshow video. In this case you may wish to place the first music file in the background and use the "Trim Music" option to select the actual portion to play in the background since you cannot slide background music for alignment to the video.
    2) If you plan to use GarageBand, share/export your iMovie '08 video only project to your hard drive and then import it to a GarageBand Podcast project. In this case, each music file can be placed in a single audio track after appropriate trimming, or occupy its own audio track/alternate between two audio tracks to allow overlapping of files if desired. I prefer GarageBand since you can control the volume of individual tracks continuously, create custom fade contours, adjust track/master volumes as a whole independently, adjust the emphasis of frequency response ranges, "pan" the music, etc. as you mix and match your "musical collage" of sounds.

    Try doing a battery pull with the phone ON, leave it out for about a minute
    then replace it and let the BB reboot 1-2 minutes. Try it and let me know!

  • Best way to sync video footage with separate music track playing underneath

    Is it simply a case of inserting markers on the timeline at the relevant points of the track where you wish clips to change (e.g. on the beat or the start of musical phrases) and then aligning clips to these markers?

    I use this method:
    - first listen to the music clip, while in the timeline, and tap on m (marker) at each beat; after some practicing you can be quite precise...
    - then (while snapping is ON) drag the video clip you want to synchronize to a video track and make sure its left (IN) point is aligned with a selected marker
    - then drag the right (OUT) edge of the video clip right or left till it snaps to a new selected marker,
    - etc.

  • Problem with resuming music track

    So here's an odd problem. I can play music and podcasts with the little headphone button. But if I pause the song with the headphone button and stop listening for a while (seems to happen at around 10-15 minutes of non-use), I hit the headphone button and instead of resuming the podcast (like it used to) it now plays the first song (alphabetically) on my iPhone.
    How can I fix this problem? It only started today and it's quite confusing.

    If it never did this before I'd try a reset and a restore and see if that doesn't fix it.

    Can I retreive my pictures ??

    were they pictures you synched from your iTunes OR pics taken with the camera of your iPad?
    If the latter, you will need to look into the backup of your iTunes. I've successfully restored deleted images this way several times. Let me know if you need more info on this.

    I bought an iPad 2 at Apple shop in NY in the US last August. Upon bringing it to Nigeria,I tried downloading Keynote but,a window propped up to say "Update to IOS 5.0. I connected my iPad to a computer in a cyber Internet cafe using the USB as instructed on Apple website but the only icon I saw was that of the camera.No prop came up to say how to download iOS 5.     I create photostories of collected photos, import them into my catalog and then create a slide show in the Editor. I also add music tracks.
    Has anybody had a problem with the music tracks being gone upon restoring a backup? In fact, all of my backups are missing the music tracks when restored!! I now have little confidence when doing a backup that the music tracks are included!!
    Any advice or help?

    Thanks for your quick reply. However, I have restored backups of Adobe PSE before and it always included the photos and music tracks that were in the project. My music files along with all of my pictures are kept in a Adobe Folder on my D:drive. I regularly do a backup especially if I was working on a new project and wanted to save my work.
    About a month ago, I messed up a project and restored a backup file which had all my other projects and music tracks. It correctly recovered everything except the projec that I messed up. If I restore that same backup today, the music tracks are gone from all of my projects and I don't understand why.
    When I finish a project I either send it to Premiere Elements to add menus and either burn a DVD or write a .WMV file. If I don't use menu's I just output the project from PSE as a .WMV file. Thankfully, I have a .WMV file for all of my projects!!
    Any other advice or assistance?
