IPad 2 Won't Restore

So, the other day, my brother forgot his password for his iPad2. I tried restoring it but it said it needed a password if we wanted to restore. Then, i tried putting it in recovery mode, but it said "There was an error....." and now i can't open it. Please help? We don't wanna pay for a new one. And, i got it but everytime im done updating it, it will give me an error message >:( after waiting 4 frikin hours on itunes, it gives me a error message. Please help? I really want to fix it but still, it's just not working.

To begin with, you should have been much more specific in your original post.
Your latest reply puts this whole problem into a totally different light!
To restore from iCloud follow these instructions, please also note the different troubleshooting advices on that page:
http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12521

And another thing, I suspect that security software like an anti-virus and/or firewall is blocking things.
Therefore, before starting the restore procedure, turn off all anti-virus software and all firewalls.
This is to make sure that the restore procedure can access all Apple servers without being blocked by security software.
Make sure to turn all the security software back on as soon as restore is done!

    You can't keep dropping your iPad - gently or otherwise - and expect it to behave normally. It might work OK again and it might not. Please be more careful with your iPad for your own sake.
    In any event, you can try resetting the iPad and maybe it will snap out of this loop that you are caught in or you can try restoring using recovery mode. I don't know if either suggestion will work.
    Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
    This isn't a typical use for recovery mode, but I can't think of anything else that could get the iPad out of this loop if resetting didn't work.
    Take a look at this.

  • IPad 2 won't restore from backup or connect to the internet

    Hi,
    I'm having some trouble with a 2-month old iPad 2.  The first of which was a sudden failure to connect to the internet on wifi, despite being able to connect to the network.  Have searched extensively, I tried all the solutions I could: airplane mode on and off, forget the network and reconnect, auto-brightness off, renew the DHCP lease, reset network settings, public DNS information - everything, and nothing worked.  The only thing I can't do reset the router as I'm on a public network and don't have physical access to it. When I connect to the network, after about 5 minutes I get details of the IP address, DNS server and all that stuff.  But I can't connect to the internet or even to the network's sign-in page.
    So I thought there was nothing else for it but to do a restore.  What a mistake to make. For one thing, restoring to factory settings has done nothing for my wifi problem.  And now iTunes is unable to restore my iPad from the last backup.  It throws up an error message about not having enough hard drive space (I started off with about 7.8Gb free - and I had a lot less than that when I restored the iPad from my last iPad 1 backup when it was new). And when I quit iTunes, I have 0kb free on my hard drive.  Where has all the space gone?
    So I suppose I have 3 questions:
    Where did my 7Gb of hard drive space go and how can I get it back?
    How do I restore my iPad so that I haven't lost all of my notes, emails, calendar events and the like?
    How do I make my iPad connect to the internet again?
    I know where iTunes keeps its mobile backups on my hard drive, but I'm loathe to go in and start deleting stuff, because I would like to retrieve all the stuff I put on my iPad in 2 months of use.
    Any advice on any/all of the issues above would be greatly appreciated as my own efforts have managed to kill my iPad and do some very strange things to my laptop.
    Thanks in advance,
    Gus

    Have you installed any sort of anti virus or firewall software? Something that could be blocking the connection?
    Do you have a different cable to try?

  • My iPAD 2 won't restore or update or turn on! Please help I'm about to cry

    Good afternoon everyone :s!
    I was recently gifted an iPAD 2 and there was an iOS 6.1 update so I went and tapped on it. Bt insead of telling me yada install noow or it's done, my iPAD displayed a screen with itunes logo and a usb connector.

    I didn't sleep the whole night just to do that and in the morning, after the download was done, the file "was being processed" and then pouf! the freaking iTUNES displayed some kind oof 3251 -I think - unknoown errror and wentt on launching the same download again!
    Please help me! get me out of this freaking loop or just tell me what is going on?
    Ae tthe freaking updates supposed to ruin everything????????

    Disable your firewall and antivirus software and try recovery mode in order to restore the iPad.
    You can read about it here.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4097
    Recovery Mode Instructions
    Disconnect the USB cable from the iPad, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
    Turn off iPad: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for iPad to turn off.
    If you cannot turn off iPad using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the iPad turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
    While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to iPad. When you reconnect the USB cable, iPad should power on.
    Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears you can release the Home button.
    If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the recovery mode alert that iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode.
    Use iTunes to restore iPad.

  • My Ipad 2 won't restore and I keep getting error 14

    So today I decided to finally update my Ipad 2, it was 4.1.3 I believe and the newest update was 7.0.4 . After backing it up and waiting for the long update, suddenly it asked me to restore it. So when I try to restore it, my Ipad turns on and it will show the apple logo with the loading bar, right after that a message pops up in my computer saying that it cannot restore and there's error 14. I don't know how to fix this when I unplug it, it asks me to plug it to itunes since its in recovery mode but i keep getting error 14, help please.

    Check for hardware issues
    Try to restore your iOS device two more times while connected with a cable, computer, and network you know are good. Also, confirm your security software and settings are allowing communication between your device and update servers. If you still see the alert when you update or restore, contact Apple support.

    I've tried at least 15 times.  I've unplugged all other USB cables, etc.  I've already been able to update 2 iphones with IOS 5 but now I'm stuck with the iPad on recovery.  I'm on an iMac and everything is updated.  Any ideas???

    Magically, it worked after about the 30th try.  Didn't do anything different.  I guess just keep trying.

    Your iPhone's iOS must be same or newer than the one in backups. In your case it is older so you need to update your iPhone and then recover it with backup.

  • My 1st generation iPad won't restore

    My first gen ipad won't restore. It won't turn on, it won't turn off, it won't show the apple logo when I try to put it in DFU mode, and it won't show the 'connect to itunes' symbol. Basically it won't do anything that all the trouble shooting tips suggest!
    When I plug it into the mains via it's charging dock, it flashes the apple logo every 10 or 15 seconds, but when I plug it into the mac it only manages to flash very weakly every 5 seconds or so.
    After many attempts, I managed to get itunes to recognise that there was 'an ipad in recovery mode' but every time I tried to restore it, I got the message 'unknown error 1602' and when I looked this up, it basically said it was the same as about 10 other error codes and that all I needed to do was change the USB port and/or restart itunes and/or the mac and it would all be good.
    I did all of these things several times and in various permutations but to no avail.
    I'm not 100% sure of the operating system on the ipad (and of course I can't check at the minute,) but I'm sure it's iOS 5. something! (I did update regularly, or when prompted by the system, but haven't done it in a while because my wife uses it now.)
    My itunes is up to date - Version 11.0.1
    I know it's a long-shot but can anyone help?
    Thanks
    PK

    I have a similar problem. But my iPad shows the connect iTunes screen and gives error 2001 when I try to restore it.
    My iPad's battery was fine but I didn't use it for like 2 weeks. It's battery would've discharged and it turned off. When I tried to charge through wall socket, it got into the restart loop where it would show apple logo and turn off. So I did the simultaneous holding of Home and Sleep buttons for 10 seconds or more. It started showing connect to iTunes.
    When I try to restore, the iTunes does the usual "extracting file" or something and go upto preparing for restore. But the iPad screen turns off from "connect to iTunes" and iTunes gives the error 2001, and the screen is back to connect to iTunes.
    Also, if I don't plug in, the iPad seems dead, doesn't wake up or anything.

  • My iPad 2 won't complete its restore

    I recently bought 6 iPad 2 devices from John Lewis, and after setting them up, I was locked out of one of them. A message came up telling my that the device was disabled because of my forgetting the passcode. I then attempted to restore and update the device on a number of different computers. When the restore and update reaches '14 minutes remaining' it disconnects from the computer and does not complete the restore. Why is this, and what can I do to restore my iPad 2?

    You may have to do this several times.
    Saw this solution on another post about an iPad in a school environment. Might work on your iPad so you won't lose everything.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    ‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
    Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
    I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
    Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
    1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
    2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
    3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
    4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
    5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
    6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
    7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
    8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just cancelling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
    If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Try it and good luck. You have nothing more to lose if it doesn't work for you.
