IPad 3 Charging question

I just got my iPad 3 today, and it seem like the charger have some problem at first (but now okay, the charger is not charging my iPad 3 at first and I did a reboot, now all good.)
Well my question is, when you turn off your iPad 3 while charging, is that normal that the screen do not display any battery sign?
Just nothing? Or there will be a battery sign (like a green battery telling that you are charging the iPad 3?)

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.

At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • IPad charging question...

Will charging my new iPad (which came with a 10v charger) with a 5v iPhone charger damage or harm my battery in anyway?

No. It will just take considerably longer.  You would do better to use the iPad charger for both iPad and iPhone.  By the way, both chargers are 5 volts. The iPad charger is 10 watts (not volts), and the iPhone charger 5 watts.

  • 6 Plus Charging Question:Is it safe to use a 12w power adapter (from an iPad) to charge an iPhone 6 plus or do I need to stay with the 5w provided in the box? Would the 12w cause any damage to the phone over time?

Would like to get some additional charging accessories to have for different location and would like them all to be as efficient as possible without doing any damage to the phone. Any thoughts on what I can use?

    Hi TTToth3,
As you will see from the article below, your 12w iPad charger is perfectly fine to use with your iPhone:

  • IPad Air and 4th gen charging question

Does the ipad 4th gen and iPad Air use the same charger. And can I use an iPhone 4s charger with a 30pin to lightning adapter to charge them?

The iPad chargers fudge the USB standard a tad by pumping 1 Amp of current across the cable to ensure a faster charging time. Nornally USB should only carry 0.5 Amp, which is what the iPhone charger pumps out and is why it shouldn't be used with the iPads.
Using the bigger iPad charger for all is fine: the iPad will charge as it should, the iPhone will sip less current and charge as usual. I don't even remember where I put the phone's brick; have two iPad bricks I use for everything.

  • When I try to turn on my iPhone 4, it wouldn't turn on unless if I use an iPad Charger. When it will turn on. I can't connect to any WiFi Services or my Service Provider, I can't text or call anyone. When I unplug my iPhone 4 it'll just shut off.

So when I try to plug in My iPhone 4 to any plug it won't turn on or charge unless if I use an iPad charger. When I do get to turn it on. My Phone will Standby for a few seconds( While I'm Typing my 4-Digit Code) then it'll unlock and go to the home screen. Once I'm on the home Screen I can't Call, Text or Email anyone because my iPhone Can't detect any Wifi Hotspots and it also can't connect to my Service Provider, It'll just Say "Searching...". The non-internet apps work perfectly fine. So since I was able to use Just an iPad Charger to turn on my iPhone 4, I tried a Regular iPhone charger that were plugged into a wall or my computer. When its Plugged in, my iPhone will turn on ( Showing the Apple Logo) then turn back off. It'll constanly do this only when it's plugged into a Regular iPhone Charger, Either plugged into a Wall Socket or my Computer. So I Tried to Restore the Phone by using some of the Methods, given by other iPhone 4 Users, non of them worked. My iPhone won't Restart, Restore, Turn on without a Charger, Be Detected on my Computer and Detect my Service Provider. I really need help to fix my iPhone 4. I'm really not sure if it's a Malfunction with the Software on the iPhone, if my Sim Card is Broken. if the System is Corrupted but it only happens Rarely.

  • Ipad charging problems & auto-resetting

    Greetings,
There is a little problem with my Ipad2 battery I believe. It takes me a few hours to charge it up to about 18%. And it keeps rebooting itself constantly every 2 a 3 minutes. As you can see, this is actually really annoying, because.. Well.. I can't really take it anywhere!
Now, I tried a few things already, so I'm not bothering you guys with a silly question:
"Hard reset" -> Still the same problem!
"back to factory settings" -> Nope, same problem!
"Tried another charger" -> Still nothing, I used another cable, another plug and ofcourse, its original plug, because I know an Ipad needs more power than an Iphone, still the same problem!
"Yelled at it" -> Nothing! It didn't even yell back!
"Put it in a corner" -> It made me more sad than it..
Anyway, as you can see, I could really appreciate your help here!
    Thanks in advance!
    Tips & tricks welcome!

Could be the charger, cable or iPad. Plug the USB cable into your computer. It may say "Not Charging", however, it is charging slowly and will verify that the cable is good.
Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W (5W on Mini) USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.

  • Charging question considering specific use schedule

IPad 16 WIFI new no issues.
Got a specific battery charging question. Have read the Apple recommendations and would like to get some expanded information considering the specific way I use my IPad please.
I use my IPad 2 days a week; Wed and Fri. At all other times the IPad is not in use.
So far I've simply left it on the AC adapter when not in use and completely drain and recharge the battery every 30th of the month as directed for Lithium batteries by Apple.
    Question is this;
Considering the specific way I use my IPad, should I leave it hooked up to the AC adapter on the days it's not in use, or would it be better to simply charge it back to 100% say on Wednesday after using it then take it off the AC and store it fully charged until Friday when I use it again?
In other words, which way would be OPTIMUM and cause the IPad less battery stress?
Many thanks for your advice on this.
    Dudley Henriques

completely drain and recharge the battery every 30th of the month as directed for Lithium batteries by Apple.
    That's not "directed".
The only reason it is recommended is so the system knows how much battery is left.
In fact, draining lithium batteries is not a good idea as they are not meant for deep cycling.
And completely draining the battery means simply using it till it shuts down (~15%), not till the charge is zero.
I would not recommend leaving it plugged in all the time.
Just use it and charge it when you need to. About once a month, don't charge it and just use it till it shuts down then do a full charge. Again, this is only so the system knows how much battery is left. It's not for "conditioning" the battery.

  • How many iPad charging cables are there?

How many iPad charging cables are there?  Anyone know 'officially'?

I suggest you ask the question you are really trying to discover the answer to; for example:
"I need a new charging cable for my iPad 2.  I see there are three different charging cables at the Apple Store.  One has a lightning connector.  One has a 30 pin connector.  The third has an L-shaped connector.  Which one (or ones) of these would work for my iPad 2?"

  • IPad charging & Screen

I just purchased a 32GB iPad 3G/Wifi model. Overall I am very happy with the product however, to things baffle me about Apple decisions. Number one why is a product that by itself with tax is around $800 dollars have such a short charging cord? This is just a ridiculous choice on Apples part....I am extremely disappointed with that aspect.
Next I plug my iPad into my desktop PC (non-Mac) to sync it to my master iTunes library and I notice while it is plugged into the PC it does not charge the battery??? Seriously......I go to the Apple store in Waikiki today and plug my iPad into a brand new MacBook Pro and have the same problem. On site tech's state that there currently are many computers not powerful enough to charger the iPad via USB.....Seriously Apple??????
Last but certainly not least, the iPad is essentially a giant iPhone with an awesome screen and features however, why does Apple not provide an Apple logo lint free cloth like they do with every iPhone on the planet???? I know Apple are marketing genius's and all but come on now another way Apple has seriously disappointed me. I hope Steve himself gets wind of a post like this and they fix these issues ASAP!!!

I'm not here to convince you to keep the iPad - honestly, I couldn't care less about that. Not sure what you thought the iPad was before buying it but it is not a netbook or a computer replacement. If you want to call it a really big iPod Touch, so be it. It is what it is, which is a discretionary purchase. If it doesn't meet your needs and wants, don't buy one in the first place and if you discover this after the purchase, you have a return window to return it for payment credit less a restocking fee.
I asked you a question which you failed to answer. Does your iPad charge when connected to the adaptor or wall charger?
If you iPad does not charge when connected direct to a USB 2.0 port on your computer - not connected to a USB hub when the computer is not in sleep or standby mode, there is something wrong with the USB cable or with your iPad. The iPad and all package contents include a one year warranty. You can call AppleCare or make an appointment at an Apple store if there is one nearby. If you have changed your mind on the iPad from whatever that was, return it for payment credit less a restocking fee.
    These are your options.

  • Computer on but not signed into account. No ipad charge?

Lots of why won't my ipod charge questions but I can't find this one.
Just curious , why do I have to be signed into an account to get the ipad too charge?

Most computer USB ports don't output enough power to charge an iPad, or they only do it VERY slowly. You're best off using the wall charger that came with it.
