IPad 3 Charging/Syncing Issues

So for some reason my iPad 3 will not charge or sync at all, no matter what cable I use. I have tried three different certified apple cables and several different chargers and laptops, none of which the iPad seem to recognize. The only way I have able to charge the iPad is when it is turned off. If I turn it off and plug it in, when I turn it back on it will have charged during that time. It's really frustrating and causes a lot of guesswork, and also makes it difficult for me to sync with iTunes. It hasn't backed up to iCloud in 5 weeks, and I have no idea what is causing this. I have erased all contents and settings, but that didn't do anything. I have tried to connect it to iTunes in DFU mode, but still nothing. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I suspect the connector on the side of the iPad.
Take it to an Apple Store for evaluation.

  • IPad's charging/syncing ICON with new cable.

I just bought a replacement charging/sync cable for my iPad.  Now the symbol quickly goes from the lightning ICON to the plug ICON.  When I plug it into my iMac, the iPad doesn't read "Not Charging" anymore but again goes from the lightning ICON to the plug ICON.  What is the difference between the (previously steady) lightning ICON and the plug ICON?  Is my iMac now charging the iPad due to a higher quality cable?  Did Apple change the ICONs?  I don't remember what the ICON was when it was syncing.

    Michael-
Your new cable works like mine now.  I think the lightning symbol only appears when it is charging.
The USB port on your Mac can charge the iPad, but very slowly, and then mainly when the iPad is asleep.  When awake, the iPad consumes about as much current as the Mac can supply.

  • IPad no charging/syncing

iPad will not charge! I am using the charger that came with the iPad. When connected it states "not charging". I know it is charging at a slower rate and also when connected to pc, iTunes does no recognize it. I can not sync! iPad will charge with my iPhone charger.I tried using iPhone USB to connect iPad to pc and it still does not recognizes the iPad.

You could try restarting the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up, hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears. Try to charge now.
You could try resetting the iPad as well. Press and hold down on the sleep button and the home button at the same time for about 10-15 seconds, until the Apple logo appears - ignore the red slider. Try charging.
Also - try to connect to iTunes again after restarting/resetting. If you still have no luck ..... Read this about the device not being recognized in iTunes.

  • IPad that has sync issues shows "lock" icon in iTunes preferences

I occassionally have trouble completing an iTunes sync with my iPad. In most instances, if I do a soft-reset of the iPad that will solve my problem. On other occasions, I delete the iPad back-up in iTunes preferences to complete the sync. That makes me very nervous.
My family syncs two iPhones and two iPads on one computer. I've noticed that the iPad that has sync problems...there is a "lock" symbol by it's name in the iTunes preferences...Devices...Device Backups. All other device backups don't have the "lock" symbol.
What does this mean and can it be affecting the sync process?

It is sync'd to another PC with Itunes as the default-  I had the same issue-  PC I was trying to use wasn't the default-  Resync'd  by checking the Sync in the main menu for your Ipad/phone- and locked is gone-

  • IPad and iTunes syncing issues

I gave my old computer to my Dad, I need to add my ipad to my new computer. I downloaded the itunes on my new computer, but when I try to sync, it tells me that the ipad is synced with another iTunes library and ipad can be synced with only 1 iTunes library. Is there anyway to unsync with the old computer and sync with the new computer without loosing all the apps and data that I have on my ipad?

The ipad will sync itunes content and pics from one and only one computer at a time.  When you sync to another it will indeed erase the current content from the ipad and replace with content from the new computer.
You need to copy everything from your old computer or your backup copy of the old computer to the new one.

  • Ipad 64 GB - syncing issue

Windows 7, Home Version, 64 bit
    Itunes 10.1.1.4
    IPAD 4.2.1
USB cable that came with the IPAD
    Running Microsoft Security Essentials.
PC gets updates automatically every day.
Syncing is becoming a real issue with ths IPAD.
Day 1, Xmas day, there were no issues. Discovered photos weren't going over. Changed setting and synced - No issues. Saw I was missing videos in photos folder (on PC), changed that setting, synced - no issue.
Yesterday sync fails and Itunes doesn't recognize the Ipad.
Reset Ipad, rebooted PC, replug in the USB cable, turn off auto-resync and then restore.
    Everything okay.
Today I start to clean up some of the photos on my PC and convert a video to mp3 format. Everything okay in Itunes.
I then sync and once again, the sync fails, tells me "it doesn't recognize a file because its a folder? I soft reset IPAD and everything okay.
I want to be sure and sync again. Sync fails, itunes wants me to restore and I am now restoring for over 1.5 hours from the newest backup.
I have looked all over forums on the web to try and find out what went wrong.
    Please help!
    Thanks,

One more thing, when the sync first failed, I got a message saying there wasn't enough memory by 4.8 GB, even though there should have been over 32 GB of free space. The same message appeard during this afternoon's sync failure as well.

  • IPad 3 audio sync issue when video imported into CS5.5

Hi everyone, long time lurker here, love the support you guys are giving!
I'm hoping you'll be able to help with an audio sync problem I'm experiencing with videos recorded with the latest iPad 3 (well, that's what I'm calling it anyway).
I believe the iPad 3 recording format is 1080/30p with 44.1Khz / 16 bit audio, but when I match those settings on a Premiere Pro CS5.5 project (or try 48KHz audio as a test), the audio gradually goes out of sync. If the video is several minutes long, it becomes quite obvious, and by 10 minutes, it's terrible!
I should add the file plays back fine on the iPad itself and was imported to a Mac via iTunes. It also plays fine on the Mac itself in Quicktime.
Does anyone have any suggestions on project settings that'd work?
On a related note, I additionally captured the audio using a Zoom H2n which i intended to replace in Premiere, but foolishly I captured it at 48KHz, rather than the 44.1KHz of the iPad video file. Should I resample it?
I actually managed to line-up the 48 and 44.1KHz waveforms from the iPad and Zoom in Premiere quite accurately, but again both gradually go out of sync with the video...
I'm running Premiere Pro 5.5.2 on Mac OSX 10.7.3.
    Any suggestions greatly appreciated!
    Gordon Laing

To update my original post, I have found this problem happens about half the time.
Sometimes there's no issue and the audio is in sync when imported into Premiere, but at other times it's way off.
I did however find a workaround which has resolved the problem on my iPad3 videos which were out of sync and that was to first import the video clip into iMovie on the Mac first, then simply export it again using the 1080p option. The subsequent file is much larger (so there's been an annoying re-encode), but when imported into Premiere, the audio is at least now in sync.
I used this to fix the audio on a couple of the videos you can find on this page (all of which apart from the last one were filmed on the iPad3)
    http://www.cameralabs.com/features/Working_holiday/
Since the video wasn't exactly critical to start with, I'm not too bothered by the re-encode.
Let me know if this fix works for anyone, and also if anyone comes up with a different solution.
    Thanks,
    Gordon

  • "not authorized for them on this computer" - ipad TV show syncing issue

I am unable to sync a number of recently purchased TV shows to my iPad (Original iPad, running 5.0.1).  I've deauthorized all my computers, and authorized only my iMac and this iPad - still nothing.  I restored my iPad, deauthorized and authorized again, ... still nothing.
Last stop before I walk down to the Genius Bar ...

You can authorise your mac to user your mothers iPad in iTunes. Your Mac can be authorised for apps from more than one iTunes account:
iTunes > Store > Authorise this computer. Enter your mom's credentials.
Alternatively, you can backup her iPad to iCloud. This will store all details from the apps as well as their location on the home screen. After restore, it will simply re-download them ti the right place from AppStore. iCloud will also periodicaly autmaticaly backup your mom's iPad, without you needing to worry about it .
You can setup backup on iPad: Settings > iCloud > Backup.

  • IPad weird email syncing issue

    Hi guys,
On my iPad, my email shows up for a few seconds and in the upper corner you can see it connecting to the server. After it is done connecting, all the emails are removed from the screen.
This is an Exchange mail account and it's working fine in my iPhone 3GS.
    Any clues?
    Thanx in advance

One more thing, when the sync first failed, I got a message saying there wasn't enough memory by 4.8 GB, even though there should have been over 32 GB of free space. The same message appeard during this afternoon's sync failure as well.

  • IPad outlook 2010 sync issues

I used iCloud control panel to,wirelessly sync my iPad II with outlook 2010, windows xp pro.  First sync was successful.  All subsequent syncs have failed with an error message.   Also, when re synching, I didn't see an option to sync only changes.  The only option appearing was to re sync all calendar and contacts.

I finally resolved this... by changing everything over to a new laptop.  I had been running iTunes on a Vista desktop, and moved Outlook and iTunes to a Win7 x64 laptop.  Once I got everything installed, I copied the iTunes folder to the laptop, transferred the purchases, backed up the iPhone and iPad to the new iTunes, and then synched them.  Set iTunes to sync Calendar, Contacts, Mail, and Notes on both, and resynched.  Once this was done and I verified that everything was intact on both the iPhone and the iPad, I tried entering a calendar event on the phone and then did another sync.  The event showed up in Outlook.  I then deleted the event from Outlook and did another sync and the event was gone from the iPhone.  Did the same with the iPad and got the same results.  So this apparently was something related to the desktop or Vista; I never got it resolved on the desktop.  Not sure what it could be, but now that it's resolved I'm going to leave it alone.  Maybe after I upgrade to an iPhone 5, I might try messing with the iPhone 4s on the Vista desktop.  If I do, and happen to get it resolved, I'll surely post something regarding that.

  • IPad 1 Music Sync Issue

After upgrading to new itunes software, music files that were accumulated over years of uploading from manual cds are no longer accessible.  Does anyone know why?

If you still have the files on your computer I would suggest just readding them to the library. I had the same thing happen to me but I store all my music in one place so I readded the folder and everything was fine. Not sure why it disappeared in the first place though.

  • Extreme charging and syncing issues

Okay, so for the past few weeks I've been developing charging and syncing issues. The first third party usb cable worked for a while and after some point it begin to physically wear and tear, and wires were disconnecting. Needed a new charger, so naturally I went and got another one. However, it didn't work, and as a measure to see if it was faulty, I plugged in the old one and smelt smoke/a burn smell.
So, I plugged the new charger into an old ipod touch 2G and it charges and syncs just dandy. The 3GS is a particularly weird case here; as it will not charge while on. After letting it die, I plugged it in and got an empty battery indicator with a charging (lightning) symbol, and after a couple of minutes it powered back on, but still wasn't charging once ios actually booted up. Weird, right? If I could connect to windows I could restore it to remove the jailbreak, as using Erase All Content and Settings keeps the phone in an endless loop until I hard reset.
The kicker here is that it seems to only charge when it's off, as if its plugged in and you slide to power off, and turn it back on later, it will sometimes have a higher percentage. And, at the place I work, we have many iPads so I plugged it up to the iPad chargers and it worked with some of them, albeit slower then expected.
Is my phone not getting enough voltage or something of the nature? I have 3 wall adaptors, one apple, and two of them standard LG adaptors, and a third party usb cable that notably works for the iPod just fine. I've connected it to 3 different computers with itunes and the result was the same as if it was dead and plugged into the wall; enough power to boot to home screen then die afterwards.
The thing that get's me is when I hit Erase All Content and Settings and it's plugged, it makes a charging noise indication but only when I hit that reset button. If it wasn't for that, I would beleive it was a hardware issue. That, or I'm just trying to deny the phone's inevitable fate. I needed a reason to switch to the 4s, so maybe this is it. I don't like giving on on something without fixing it though so it's gonna bother me until I do.
Thanks for any suggestions or help!

  • HT4623 Iphone and ipad syncing issues

both my iphone and ipad stopped syncing with my computer (pc).  The ipad never charged from my pc anyway but the iphone did.  anyone else having this issue?

I fugured out that deleting from iPad does not delete from iPhone and whatever data is there is cloud will be retained for iPhone.

  • Charging and Syncing issues

My roommate just received an iPad for her birthday and when we plug it into the computer, it says Not Charging in the top right corner and iTunes doesn't seem to recognize that it is plugged in at all. It doesn't give me an option for syncing and even though it pings like it realizes something is plugged in, it doesn't show up under devices. I'm not sure how to resolve this. iTunes and  the iPad are both updated.

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • More Aperture/iPad syncing issues

Each time I create a new project or album in Aperture, I have trouble getting the images to the iPad when I sync. I sometimes need to sync several times until the images are recognized and imported to iPad. I do have the albums designated manually, rather than all, which means I have to sync and then sync again after I check the checkbox for the new album. I understand that, but sometimes I have to go back into Aperture to make sure the previews are updated. If I choose to update the previews for a project, Aperture will usually tell me that they're already up to date, but often they will not show up on the iPad, even after I check the appropriate box for the album in iTunes. Sometimes I get good results if I delete the previews and regenerate them in Aperture.
The second problem is the sort order. Even if I have "sort by filename" selected in Aperture, they do not show up in this order on the iPad--despite what the support article says about this. They appear to only show up in Date order. I've tried repeatedly resetting the sort order, but it does not change on the iPad. Sometimes I have to delete the album from the iPad, (uncheck the album in iTunes and sync again), then recheck it and sync yet another time. This does not always work, however.
It is very frustrating. The interface between Aperture and the iPad is very wonky. I often have to sync repeatedly, just to get the photos on the iPad and even then they're usually in the wrong order.
Aperture appears to have two types of previews: "previews" and "sharing previews," but "sharing previews" don't seem to appear in the documentation. I've noticed that, even when Aperture says the previews are up to date, when I exit the program, it will sometimes (but, maddeningly, not always), give the message, "updating sharing previews" before quitting. I cannot figure out how to force this, however. Sometimes opening and closing Aperture several times will cause it to do this, but I can't be sure.
iTunes seems to have its own process in which it "optimizes" images for importing to the iPad. Like Aperture's mysterious "sharing previews," "optimizing" does not show up in the iTunes documentation or help files.
This process either needs to be improved, or at least documented so users can understand how to avoid these problems.

    1. Some people have reported slow syncing with anything but the iPad's own USB cable (e.g. using a US cable from an iPhone/iPod). Try different cables
    2. More work - disable iTunes syncing completely, then re-enable a bit at a time, e.g. one movie at a time, one playlist at a time, one photo album at a time. There are periodic reports of syncing issues caused by a bit of media that's been corrupted, and this (tedious) approach allows you to identify where the problem might be.
    3. If that fails, do a clean restore back to factory settings, then progressively re-enable syncing as above.
    Hope this helps
