IPad 3 constantly dropping strong 4G LTE signal

My iPad 3 suddenly refuses to hold the very strong (5 bars) 4G LTE signal here at work. The LTE signal is very strong here, my iPad has always had an excellent LTE signal since I activated it a few months ago. Now, it grabs the LTE signal immediately -- five bars -- and gives me LTE speeds. This lasts only for a couple of minutes. After a couple of minutes, it suddenly says **Could not activate data cellular network** and reverts to 3G. This never used to happen, but has been happening for the past several days now.
I've tried resetting network settings, airplane mode on/off, turn wireless off, turn on/off cellular data, hard reset of the iPad, full shutdown of the iPad. Nothing worked.
I've Googled, and this appears to be a fairly common issue without any clear resolution. What's the answer?

MarquiaF_VZW - thanks for the reply. With more Googling and messages on other forums, I resolved this on my own. To cut to the chase and hopefully help others, here's the answer. I'll also more fully describe the issue below the answer:
ANSWER
(1) Go to Settings.
(2) Go to General.
(3) Choose Reset.
(4) Choose Subscriber Services.
(5) Select Reprovision Account.
(6) Reboot iPad.
This completely fixed the issue for me. My LTE has been solid since performing this fix two weeks ago. Before doing this, I tried pretty much everything else you can try short of getting a new SIM card.
PROBLEM
This was not a Verizon coverage issue. 4G is very strong here at work, and it is reasonably strong at home. I never had any 4G issues at either place, then suddenly I had them constantly. My iPad would latch onto the (5 bar) 4G signal quickly, give me 4G service for 30 seconds to a couple of minutes, then drop it for 3G, sometimes also displaying a "Could not activate data cellular network" message. It would stay at 3G unless I reset the iPad, shut it down completely, reverted to all defaults, or whatever. Then I'd get 4G right away again, but dropping to 3G the same way within a minute or two again.
I saw this exact same issue at the following thread, where I also posted, and where someone suggested the "reprovision account" solution: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1535823
That solution worked perfectly for me and a few others on that thread, but not everyone. I suspect that for the others, they may have actual 4G coverage or antenna or SIM card issues. For me, it was apparently an issue where VZW didn't recognize my iPad / account any more, for whatever reason. Reprovisioning was the way to go. I'll try to mark this thread as "answered" to help other people, or perhaps you at VZW can mark it.
Thanks for contacting me. VZW support and the 4G LTE service are excellent.

  • IPad 3rd Gen Shows Strong Verizon LTE Signal but no Internet

I've heen having a frequent issue where my Verizon LTE iPad is showing a full LTE connection but than I get error messages that I'm not connected to the Internet.  So I end up having to toggle Airplane mode to get it to reacquire a signal (which might take a minute or two) and than all is well again until the problem happens again.  This typically happens when I'm on the move as opposed to being at home; so perhaps an issue with transferring between cell towers but any advice to alleviate the problem would be appreciated.

Is this issue happening on both your work PC and MacBook or just one or the other? Are both PCs Macs? Is your "work" e-mail web-based that you can access from any web browser via just an Internet connection?
Do each of your computers use the same DNS server settings? The default would be your ISP's DNS servers.

Went with Verizon because the rep and Verizon's coverage map showed strong 4G LTE signal at my address. Got home and discovered that the signal is nowhere near what I was shown. People have said that they contacted Verizon and received signal boosters and I was wondering if anyone had knowledge of this?

        jslack73,
Thank you so much for those details. I do see that the area should have pretty good coverage. Since you have been at home have you been able to remove the sim card for a good 10-15 seconds http://vz.to/1ys6Uj0? Also, please try resetting the network settings on the phone. You can do that by going into Settings, General, Reset, and Reset Network Settings. After this is complete you would need to re-add in your wi-fi passwords. Please keep us posted.

  • IPad 2 constantly drops WiFi connection when tethered to iPhone via Hotspot

I have a wifi only iPad 2 that I tether to my iPhone 4 via the personal hotspot. The iPhone and the iPad are constantly being separated throughout the day and my problem is that when the iPad gets back in range of the iPhone hotspot it won't reconnect at all! In fact the iPad no longer sees the iPhone as a wifi option in the network list even though the iPhone hotspot is running just fine (other devices cam still see and connect to the iPhone hotspot)
I have to turn off the iPhone hotspot, wait 2 seconds and then turn it back on. Then the iPad sees the hotspot again and connects.
Also if I turn the auto lock off on the iPad so that it never locks, then it will reconnect to the iPhone hotspot just fine. But the problem with turning auto lock off is that the screen has to stay on all day!
There is obviously something wrong that is happening when the iPad locks. It drops the wifi connection and then does not reconnect when I turn the screen back on.
Is there anything I can do to make sure the iPad reconnects to the hotspot whenever I get back in range without having to keep it on all the time?

Mar 13, 2012 1:20 PM (in response to coalxman)
I have been having that problem for 6 months and my IT guy finally found a solution by mining the web. I don't know the source of the answer to give credit but it works !
    Text of blog posting below:
t does, thanks! I was getting really frustrated with connecting my iPad to my 4S via Personal Hotspot. After a fresh boot of the phone it would work as expected but if the connection was terminated (say by switching hotspot off and on) or after the two hadn't been connected for a while it got into this state where I could see and connect to the hotspot but it would drop a few seconds later then try again over and over.
After a lot of experimenting I finally figured out that there seems to be a pretty serious bug in the hotspot's DHCP server. AP discovery and WPA authentication work great but in this weird state the iPhone will not give the connecting device an IP. The only solution to fix the DHCP server is to reboot the phone.
That being the case, grasshoppertrekker's advice is bang on - you need to give the connecting device a static IP address. This gets around the DHCP issue.
For the less technically inclined, here's how to do that with an iPad:
    - Reboot your phone and connect to the hotspot as usual and ensure the connection works
    - On the iPad go to Settings - WiFi and tap the arrow to the right of your iPhone's name
    - Write down all the values you see under the DHCP tab
    - Tap the Static tab (or Manual)
    - Enter in the same values you just write down
    - Hit "WiFi Networks" at the top to go back
The iPad will now reconnect using the same settings as DHCP would have given it, but without relying on the broken DHCP server.
Optional extra: Instead of using whatever DNS values the DHCP server (and by extension your mobile data ISP) gives you, use OpenDNS IP's instead. This will speed up YouTube due to their partnership with Google and prevent your ISP from traking your web usage via DNS interception. To do this enter the following into the DNS field under the Static tab: 208.67.222.222,208.67.220.220 (note the comma)

  • Verizon Ipad Dropping LTE Signal

    Dear Community,
For about 1 month now, my ipad (Verizon 32gb Wi-Fi +Lte) which is running IOS 5.1.1 has been dropping the 4g lte signal at an increasing rapid place in the NYC/ Long Island Area. While i would normally attribute this to Verizon's coverage, the fact is that i am operating in the same area i have been since i purchased the ipad on march 16th. Previously, the ipad held the signal flawlessly and with at least 4 bars.
Now it will show 4 bars and then all of the sudden go to "cannot connect to Network"
I have removed and put back in the sim card and I have also reset my network connections but none of this has seem to have had an effect.
Does anyone else suffer from this issue and know a workaround or at least have a suggestion as to whether or not to visit apple or verizon?
    Thanks
    Andy

I am having this same issue with my Verizon LTE iPad. I am in the NYC area near Grand Central. I will have full service, and then I will randomly lose service. My connection does come after a few second, however the brief outage impacts music/video streaming, etc.

  • LTE signal getting worse over the last 4-5 months in 84106

I live in an area of Salt Lake City called Sugarhouse, and for the last 4-5 months it seems like the LTE service in this area has just gotten worse and worse. The area in particular is South of I-80 along Highland Drive.
At first I thought that it was my phone (Droid Charge) so I went through troubleshooting at a store, which included resetting my phone to defaults and getting a replacement SIM card. Neither solved the problem, and I didn't think the final step of replacing the phone was necessary because the same phone gets full LTE signal at work downtown and in many other areas.
Since then, I've purchased a Verizon iPad with LTE and have seen the same exact behavior on both devices. They will both drop to 3G in most areas of the house including outside in the open. The Droid Charge has also dropped to 1x a few times, but I don't think that's happened since the recent update. Sometimes the devices will bounce back and forth between LTE and 3G, which is bad because if I forget to put my phone on the charger overnight, or forget to set it to CDMA only, I'll wake up with a dead phone.
Something else that I've noticed during the last month or so, is that when I do find a spot in my home that I can get 1-2 bars of LTE signal in, that particular spot is good for a limited amount of time. I've left my phone and iPad in a spot that has LTE signal, and anywhere between 10 minutes to 6 hours later the device will drop to 3G. Sometimes I'll be able to get LTE back if I move the device around a bit, sometimes it will stay on 3G despite repositioning.
I'd be happy to offer up any additional information if needed. I'm desperate to get a good stable LTE signal! Thank you.

Hello Meerkatderp! I'm sorry to learn of any issues you have encountered in the last few months! I appreciate all that you have tried in an attempt to get this resolved too. I'm happy to help you w/your 4G data connection! Because you gave such thorough information about the location in which you are having trouble, I was able to locate the area on our coverage map. This area is showing to be covered nicely with 4G service, with towers all along Highland and south of I80. I did check my resources to check and see if any trouble tickets have been made for the area, and I don't see a problem reported there.
This doesn't mean I doubt you in the least! (I just want to make sure that is clear) But, what it does do is point my attention to your device. I'd like to ask you to try some troubleshooting steps with your phone. I have listed them for you.
    1) Press and hold the power button, turn on Airpland Mode, wait 15 seconds, then press and hold the power button again and turn off Airplane Mode.
    2) Please remove the battery and the SIM card from the phone for about 60 seconds, reattach, power on, and monitor.
    3) Complete a master reset on the phone, once you have backed up the information. Here are the steps:
    http://bit.ly/SjwrC2
    4) Here is an application that is recommended from the manufacturer of your device to help with this as well:
    http://bit.ly/Ov7Dq1
Please let me know how these steps work out, so we can make sure you are able to enjoy the 4G network.

  • My I pad 3 constantly loses my wi fi signal. Does apple have any plans to correct this or should I return it. This was not an issue at all with the original one.

My new iPad 3 constantly loses the wi fi signal.  Does Apple have any plans to correct this issue or should I return it. I had no problem with my original I pad.  Both are in the exact same location in my house. I'm finding this very annoying and disappointing and am being forced to us my 4 g data plan

You may already have tried this, but before you completely give up, I'd check your home router software and also reset the router.  I haven't seen this particular issue arise on these forums with new iPad devices, so perhaps it has to do with outdated software or configuration on the router not playing well with the new device....

Does ipad mini 2  WIFI ONLY can access to LTE signal by using  pocket wifi 4g LTE.,THANKS

    Hello Aaryn D
You should be able to connect to that hotspot without issue as an iPad will see it within the Wi-Fi networks and you would not need the cellular model unless you want the iPad to constantly have a data connection.

  • IPad 3 keeps dropping wifi signal

Despite having a very strong wifi signal around the house, which my iPad 2 has a strong connection to, my new iPad keeps dropping the wifi signal every minute or two, making using the Internet nearly impossible. To regain connection I just have to go on the wifi settings page (not even turning the wifi on and off) which then gives me the signal again. Ive tried resetting network settings, but nothing works. Please help; this is a real problem and means I can't use my iPad properly.

  • HT204400 Apple TV drops strong wifi signal.

Everything up to date with reliable 50Mbps internet, Apple TV works with Cat 5 cable, but drops streams frequently and lags airplay when connected wirelessly. It is 10 feet away from the router. why? Restarted multiple times, checked software version multiple times, restarted router, restarted MBP, it just won't stay connected. Is there a fix coming for this?

I'm not having a problem with the speed of the internet, I'm having a problem with it staying connected... yes I know it's a wifi issue that's obvious... thanks for pointing that out.
Nohting for Apple to fix? hmmmm, well Two Samsung phones never drop the signal, a Samsung TV never drops the signal, a Samsung Tab 2 never drops the signal, an iPad Mini never drops the signal, a Macbook Pro never drops the signal.... but for some reason the Apple TV drops the signal 20+ times during one movie and it won't stream airplay.
Not to mention multiple other posts complaining about it staying connected even using Apple Airport.
So hopefully there are other people who will read this post that can respond with more than just pointing out the obvious. I mean seriously theres gotta be something that can be fixed or something because thus far Apple products have been impressive, this doesn't seem to fit their M.O.

  • IPad gets no ATT LTE signal but iPhone 5 does. Help!

My iPad has been showing "no service" or "searching..." in places where I used to get a passable LTE signal from AT&T.  But my iPhone 5 is able to find a signal in the same places. I don't understand why. Could it be a hardware issue? I know AT&T is bad and that it is particularly bad in Chicago, but I stay with them for personal reasons. So please don't tell me to solve the problem by switching to Verizon. Thanks in advance.

  • 5s not holding LTE signal. running iOS 7.0.3

I've had my iphone for about 2 weeks now and last week I had my old 4s plugged into my mac at the same time as my new 5s and it messed up my music. I couldn't fix it so decided to just reset my 5s. Where I live 4g is pretty spotty. Yesterday I was on the road by Lincoln, Ne where they have a pretty strong 4g signal. Before I decided to reset my iphone I never had a problem with my 4g signal, especially by Lincoln. Yesterday was the first time I was in an area where I could recieve a 4g signal since I reset my phone. My phone kept bouncing in between 4g and 3g. So, I went to my settings and turned of the "LTE" and turned it right back on and what do you know..it connected to LTE for a few minutes and then dropped it. I did this hand full of times yesterday when I dropped the 4g. The weird thing is that I was back in Lincoln that night (the same day) and had a STRONG LTE signal. But as soon as i got 15-20 miles out I would start bouncing between signals(I wasn't turning the LTE on an off this time). My mom has a Gallaxy Note 2 or 3 and she never dropped her LTE signal that entire time, where I on the other hand lost it 2 or 3 times. Same thing happened today!!!! I finally reset my network settings today, and it still bounced in between 4g and 3g. So, is this normal??? Did I mess something up with my phone when I did a reset on it?? or do you think its just a coincedence that 4g might be crappy these past 2 days?? I'm just concerned because I spent over 300$ on this phone and part of the reason I got it was for the 4g LTE! Let me know what you guys think!!! THANKS!
P.S. My software on the phone is Up-to-Date

Go to settings>icloud>storage and back up>back up
after that preform a restore by going to
    general>reset>erase all content and settings
this will delete everything except the enabled stuff on icloud.
You can view whats enabled by going to icloud in settings.

  • Wifi constantly drops while watching Live Stream TV

My Wifi constantly drops while watching Live Stream TV. I cannot make it through a 30 min tv show without it dropping me serveal times.I can only resume if I refresh and re-connect to my reouter.  I just had my service installed 3 weeks ago and have been told I have the latest router.

The most likely cause for your findings is that your neighbor is using a different channel on his router, or he is broadcasting a stong signal on the same or a nearby channel, and interfering with your signal.   However, don't rush out and change your channel to the same one he is using, as this may only make things worse.  There are, however, several things to do to improve your wireless connections:
First of all, give your network a unique SSID. Do not use "linksys". If you are using "linksys" you may be trying to connect to your neighbor's router. Also set "SSID Broadcast" to "enabled". This will help your computer find and lock on to your router's signal.
Poor wireless connections are often caused by radio interference from other 2.4 GHz devices. This includes wireless phones, wireless baby monitors, Bluetooth (including Bluetooth game controllers), microwave ovens, wireless mice and keyboards, and your neighbor's wireless network. Even some 5+ GHz phones also use the 2.4 Ghz band. Unplug these devices, and see if that corrects your problem.
In your router, try a different channel. There are 11 channels in the 2.4 GHz band. Usually channel 1, 6, or 11 works best. Check out your neighbors, and see what channel they are using. Because the channels overlap one another, try to stay at least +5 or -5 channels from your strongest neighbors. For example, if you have a strong neighbor on channel 9, try any channel 1 through 4.
    Hope this helps.
