Ipad 3 home sharing issues

I have been spending the last few hours trying to set up home sharing on the ipad3.
After I thought it was successful, to my dismay, I found that the music, while all showing up, will only show up under the 'playlists' tab and the 'songs' tab.  both my artist, albums, and genres tabs are copletely empty.
As far as the streaming goes, the music streams fine, I just cannot browse by artist and that is terribly frustrating.
Do we know any solutions for this?  And I would prefer not to uninstall/reinstall itunes as i just updated the year/ retagged genre on 40 something gigs.
and yes, I have the most current itunes and ipad builds

  • Apple TV Home Sharing Issue (SOLVED for me)

I had been having problems with Home Sharing while other functions (Netflix etc) worked fine.  My setup is wireless using Time Capsule.  My network was "open" (password not needed).  I had tried everything from recycling my DSL modem and Time Capsule and turning Home Sharing off and on (on my computer and the Apple TV) without success.
My Time Capsule has the ability to connect at 5GHz or 2.4GHz.  Additionally, my networks may or may not be password protected.  I finally changed to a network that required a password and my Home Shareing issue ended.  Since that network change everything works fine.

I was going crazy trying to play music from my Itunes library and watch slideshows of my photos as, once started, the application would quit within a minute of starting. I called Apple Support and tried everything they sughgested - restart, restore etc. Finally, I turned my router off and let it reset. When I turned it back on. everything worked. I could have saved a lot of aggravation had I been instructed to do so originally.

  • Potential Solution: Home Sharing issues with iTunes 10.6

TL;DR: On a hunch, I changed the power settings of the ATV to never sleep. Since then, I have not had any issues. Granted, it's only been a couple of days, but it seems to have done the trick.
    Folks,
Wanted to share my experience with Home Sharing issues after upgrading to iTunes 10.6. These forums a rampant with reports of the issue, so I'll defer to the search field above if you don't know what I am talking about. In short: iTunes 10.6 seems to have busted Home Sharing.
For those who do, here's what I found:
For some reason, is saw a very large number of established sessions from my Apple TV (ATV) into port 3689 on my Mac. This is the port that ATV uses to query iTunes to see what's available via Home Sharing (e.g.: what movies, songs, pictures, etc are available for display on the ATV).
A sniffer cap and some observation of the power indicator on the ATV indicated that while it was sleeping, the ATV was querying iTunes. It would power on for a sec (wake on LAN, maybe?), issue some queries, then sleep.
When this happened, the TCP sessions created were never town down. As such, I would eventually see 200+ established sessions on port 3689. I don't know exactly how many it took to make this happen, but when I saw this, iTunes stopped accepting new connections.
Of course, bouncing iTunes would remedy the issue for a while, but it would return.
On a hunch, I changed the power settings of the ATV to never sleep. Since then, I have not had any issues. Granted, it's only been a couple of days, but it seems to have done the trick.
I would be interested to hear if it works for others.
    Happy viewing,
    Chris

    Thanks for posting this.
I've been searching for an option of how to approach this problem.
I picked up the new AppleTV when it was released, but it has made iTunes fairly useless from a Home Sharing standpoint.
I also observed the massive number of TCP connections being opened against iTunes, but never closed.
As expected, I could manually kill a few of these connections, and then could connect again, even without closing iTunes.
I performed most of my testing with Windows 7, but while troubleshooting I had the same issue with iTunes on an old Mac Mini I had sitting around.
I will try your solution, which makes a lot of sense, but it would be nice if Apple fixed the real problem.
    Thanks again.

  • Home Sharing Issue Windows 7 x64 and Ipad 2 - Please Help!!!

    Hi all,
Having problems getting remote sharing to work. I am able to pair the ipad with my itunes library so obviously they can see and talk to each other but when it searches for the home share it gives message "could not find".
not sure if its relevant but i also cant sync the ipad wirelessly.

Those that have issue with Apple TV will be here those that don't won't because they will be just enjoying themselves.
A few more things to try.
To force quit Remote on your iOS device, double-click the Home button (to view your recently used apps) and then touch and hold the Remote app icon until it begins to jiggle, then tap . Remote is added to recent apps again the next time you open it.
Do you have the latest iTunes 10.5.1?
Is iTunes > Preferences > Sharing tab > Share my library on my local network
    and Share entire library selected.
Is your iTunes > Advanced > Home Sharing turn ON? (Try also to sign off and sign back on again)
Reboot your router (also update your router)
    Is your router WMM On?
Remote uses TCP port 3689 and UDP port 5353 to communicate with your iTunes.  To configure your firewall to add these ports.

  • IPad Home Sharing Sorting Issues

    Hey all,
I've finally got around to configuring my server and iPad to run Home Sharing so tha I can stream TV shows to my iPad.
    Simple enough.
I do have one issue however.
Any TV shows that I have ripped from DVD to my iTunes library will not sort by episode on the iPad in Home Sharing. They sort alphabetically. In iTunes they are sorted by episode.
The shows that I have purchased via iTunes DO sort by episode in Home Sharing.
Is there some magic setting that I can change to sort all of my ripped TV Shows in Home Sharing by episode? I've looked at the info for both ripped and iTunes purchased TV shows, and I cannot see any difference that would cause them to sort differently.
    Any help is appreciated.

I have this same issue.  The discussion here https://discussions.apple.com/message/16395204#16395204 indicates that it may have something to do with the information under the "Sorting" tab when you get info on the indiviual shows (⌘+i).
I am going to give it a try tonight as this has been driving me mad!  Trying to watch THe Walking Dead on my iPad (since no one else int he house wants or should watch it) has been insane.

  • Home Sharing issues with iPad update 7.2.1

Please help, this is very frustrating.
I was able to use my home sharing on my iPad before I did the update 7.2.1
Since updating, now when I load my shared library on my iPad and I go to play a song, it skips to the next song, then the next, then the next, etc. very fast.
I had my friend bring their iPad over that did not do the update yet, and it worked just fine so I know for sure it isn't a network issue, or a firewall issue.
Anybody else experiencing this? Please help! I would love to find a way to make this work without restoring my iPad and just not doing the update.

Restoring the iPad will simply erase the device and reinstall the most recent iOS anyway. You cannot go back to an earlier iOS version now.
One of the most basic things to try would be to reset your iPad and see if that fixes it.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • I am having major Home Sharing issues (disrupting WiFi)

Have done a lot of research on the particular issues Im having and can only find discussions on problems slightly tangential to mine.
Beginning about a week ago whenever I would use home sharing on my iPad or iPhone (streaming through my Mac Pro desktop an an Airport Extreme) the file I would be playing would pause erratically and then start up again.  It would get really bad if I listened to one of the larger files (I download radio show podcasts) and try to jump to the middle of the program - every time the file would just pause and not play and then jump to the next file on the playlist and just hang.
Furthermore, it totally screws up my WiFi....I would have to reset my extreme to get the signal to stop behaving erratically.  I read through tons of posts and tried earlier versions of airport software, resetting my wifi settings, reste my router etc...but all to no avail.
Im a little surprised that Im the only one having this issue since it seems so basic....I turn on home sharing, start using it and bam -- all these wifi issues just start happening.
Anyone able to point me in the right direction for a solution?   Because it is driving me crazy....

you could be suffering from wireless interference.
perhaps one of your neighbor's wireless networks is interfering with yours. download iStumbler and note the channels other networks in the vicinity are broadcasting on.
change the channel your network is using as far away as possible from those.

  • Partial home sharing issue between 3 devices...

i have an old mac computer, an iPad and new macbook pro. I activated home sharing but only the music from my old computer is on the new one, so everything i bought on my iPad recently is not shared. How can I update a central library and access my ipad and old computer music so I can share all on each device?

If you are having issues setting up Home Sharing across all devices, you may find the following article helpful:

  • IPad home sharing stopped working w/ ios7

Home sharing on my iPad just hangs.
I have a large video library, so it took awhile to load it under ios6, but now it has stopped working altogether. The little wheel just keeps spinning around and around, then after about 5 minutes the video app crashes. There's some Quality Apple Software™ for you...
I've tried logging out of home sharing & logging back in; power cycling all devices, etc. I'm pretty sure the problem isn't with iTunes, because my Apple TV is loading up the entire video library in a matter of just a few seconds.
Is there ANYTHING I can do to get home sharing to work on this iPad 3?

I am having this exact same issue on an iPAd 2 and iPad mini in videos. I also have this issue in Music on a 4s. After many attempts, turning on/off home sharing in itunes, rebooting, and esetting the entire network settings in the 4s, because Messages wasn't sending.. The 4s is finally filling in the circle as it tries to connect. I have a large video and audio library (Apple's seen a lot of income from me), but the 20min to load n the 4s is absurd.
Still can't get Video to connect to home sharing on either iPad. I've been trying many times for this 'magic' attempt to happen, but so far no luck. Very frustraed right now.

  • Resolving Apple TV 2 & 3 Home Sharing Issues

I see that there are many users reporting problems with home sharing.
Unfortunately the problems are there to stay home sharing is actually not functional in full in certain scenarios so I thought I would give a summary of my experience
First of all airplay and home sharing have nothing to do with each other so the fact you have issues with airplay or that airplay works does not warrant any behaviour for home sharing
My set up is as follows
    Apple TV 3
    iMac
Set of iOS devices iPhone 5/5s/6 iPad 3/Air
    Netgear NightHawk 7000
I have the largest iTunes library on the iMac running the latest Mavericks OSX.
In general everything works fine when all devices are awake however the moment the iMac or AppleTV goes to sleep this start creating problems
For who does not know the Apple TV 2/3 has a functionality called bonjour sleep proxy, the AppleTV is always visible on the network and retains and IP address even when it is in sleep mode. The other devices like iMac or MacBooks instead may disconnect from the network and loose their IP going to sleep. So before going to sleep the register with the AppleTV so that the apple Tv can wake those up if needed.
This is the theory so if you then launch remote app or go onto the AppleTV menu and look for computers you should see the shared libraries.
    But you don't!
In the remote app the library disappears and when you go into the AppleTVand press computer it starts loading it and then fails or even better tells you home sharing is not active on other devices
    Solution:
There are two solution to the problem
1, Set the iMac or other computer power saving to never go to sleep. This is not eco friendly but means the network card stays on and so does the link to home sharing
    2. Uss standard power saving settings and use an application like Moka WOL. Register your computer MAC address on this app. When you need your home library go into this app and wake up the sleeping computer. The link to computers will go back to working on the apple TV and all will be normal
I am sorry to say that home sharing just does not work because contrary to what apple says the apple tv (and the extreme routers) fail to wake up any sleeping devices with home sharing on the network although they are aware of the existence once those devices loose an IP address is basically dead end

Thanks to the mod to removing my post but here we go again
This is the initial situation with an Apple TV and home library is my iMac running Mavericks
After sending the mac to sleep all devices disappear from remote
If I go to the apple tv and click computers I get the message that home sharing is off...!
the apple tv shows on the router map with an IP address whilst the iMac has disappeared
Despite the iMac console reports that clients are requesting wake the iMac does not wake
    Oct 12 10:34:30 iMac.local powerd[28] <Notice>: Clients requested wake events: [proc=mDNSResponder request=Maintenance inDelta=7198]
    Oct 12 10:34:30 iMac.local powerd[28] <Notice>: PM scheduled RTC wake event: MaintenanceImmediate inDelta=7198.04
At this point i use moka wake on lan to wake up the sleeping iMac that reappears on the network
The console output is correctly reporting the wake and recreating the iTunes server
Oct 12 10:39:30 iMac.local powerd[28] <Notice>: PID 28(powerd) Created InternalPreventSleep "Network wake delay proxy assertion" 00:00:00  id:0xe00002341 [System: DeclUser SRPrevSleep kCPU kDisp]
    Oct 12 10:39:30 iMac.local powerd[28] <Notice>: DarkWake [CDN] due to ARPT/Network: Using AC
    Oct 12 10:39:30 iMac.local powerd[28] <Notice>: PID 28(powerd) Created InternalPreventSleep "com.apple.powermanagement.acwakelinger" 00:00:00  id:0xe00002342 [System: DeclUser SRPrevSleep kCPU kDisp]
    Oct 12 10:39:40 iMac.local powerd[28] <Notice>: PID 196(iTunes) Created NetworkClientActive "com.apple.iTunes.server" 00:00:00  id:0x1200002350 [System: DeclUser BGTask SRPrevSleep NetAcc kCPU kDisp]
At this point the screen of the Apple TV shows the items from home sharing in the thumbnails
And browsing of home library is established
In short wake on demand with bonjour proxy fails somewhere. The wake on demand is successful when using magic packets
I wonder why apple devices running iOS (apple tv and iphones/ipad) don't use magic packets instead of this weird real time clock trigger event that seems not to work

  • Quirky Home Sharing issue

I have the remote app for the iPad, an iMac with Home Sharing turned on and an AppleTV. I can always see my iMac's library and the AppleTV's library. On the AppleTV, I cannot see my library (named iMac) listed under Computers, unless I power cycle both AppleTV and the iMac.
However, even if I cannot see it, I can use the remote app to stream a song from my iMac to my AppleTV without issue. I can even go into the AppleTV from within the remote app, I just can't access my iMac's library.
Obviously, I have everything set up properly (as far as home sharing goes). What am I missing? Is this just something that needs to be addressed thru an update?

I called tech support. They told me that I should reset factory settings which would force a download of most up to date software (I believe there is only one version so this shouldn't really do anything).
What I realized though is that the issue is between the AppleTV and the iMac, not the other way around. Even when my AppleTV doesn't display the iMac as being "linked" (either on the TV or iPad remote app), I can still stream music from my iMac or remote app.
    Very frustrating.

  • Home sharing, issues with multiple libraries

I'm having issues getting home sharing to work the way I want it to.  I've got two seperate libraries on one computer.  I have them both set to the same home share name and all that good stuff but I can only view one library at a time.  For example, if I have library A open in itunes then all of my devices can access library A.  If I switch to library B in itunes then I can see library B on all of my devices.  I want to be able to access both libraries at the same time wirelessly via home sharing.  From the research I've done this should be possible.
Another thing I noticed is that when I am in itunes the other library doesn't show up under 'shared' even though I have all of the sharing options I was able to find enabled.
My OS (windows 7 x64 professional), software (itunes, bonjour, etc), individual devices (ipad and ipad 2) and drivers are all up to date.

I'm glad to hear that it's not just me. I have iTunes libraries on a Mac Mini and on my Macbook. They show up in the shared section in iTunes on the opposite machines, as well as on my 2nd Generation Apple TV. They even show up in the Remote app on my iDevices. However, only one shows up in the iPod music app on the iPhone 3GS and iPad, as well as the iPad video app.
Hopefully, this gets fixed soon. I keep my podcasts on my Macbook and that's the library that's not showing up on the iDevices iPod app.

  • Is there a patch to iTunes 10.6.3 to fix the home sharing issues?

My Apple TVs are now dropping their connections to the iTunes library on my mac during playback. The message is that I need to turn home sharing on. If I restart iTunes or turn home sharing on/off the problem goes away. Issue is that it now comes back fairly quickly sometimes as short a time as five minutes which is making watching anything on Apple TVs a real issue. My Mac attaches to my router wirelessly but all my apple TVs are wired via home plugs. I also have a mix of apple tv 2s and 3s and all the iPhones and iPads also can't see the iTunes library when this happens.
Anyone got any ideas other than apple need to release a fix?

Homesharing shares everything. If you want to hide things, put them into another iTunes library, if you have any suggestions that you think might enhance iTunes you can send Apple your feedback here.

  • Home Sharing issue with multiple iTunes libraries

I'm hoping someone out there has a suggestion to help solve the problem I'm having with the new iOS 4.3 Home Sharing.
I have an iMac and a MacBook Pro both running the latest system and iTunes versions. Each has an iTunes library with Home Sharing turned on. All works fine between them -- each iTunes library shows up on the other computer's as a shared library. We also have a 2nd gen Apple TV that sees both computers correctly, e.g., both libraries show up under computers on the Apple TV.
The problem is with my iPad and 4th gen iPod touch. Both have been updated to 4.3. I signed in to Home Sharing in the Music setting without a problem. Everything is on the same local WiFi network. The problem is that only one of the iTunes libraries shows up as a Shared Library. And it's not consistent as far as which one shows up, the laptop or the iMac. Sometimes it'll be one, sometimes it's the other. Never is it both of them so I can select which one I want to access. This doesn't really make sense to me, as they both do show up on the Apple TV. Both of my iOS devices have this problem. Is it really supposed to function this way?
    Any suggestions?

I'm glad to hear that it's not just me. I have iTunes libraries on a Mac Mini and on my Macbook. • Home Sharing Issues iOS6

I'm having an issue it seems with Home Sharing on my iPhone 5 after recently upgrading to iOS6 v6.1.2.  My network setup is as follows:  I have a 1TB TimeCapsule which is my WiFi access point in addition to storing my iTunes library.  My iMac is connected to the TC via Ethernet.  Wirelessly I have two Windows-based laptops, ATV (2nd gen), an iPad2, a BlackBerry Torch, iPhone 4S and iPhone5.  Until recently, all of my Apple devices were able to access my iTunes library over the WiFi using Home Sharing.  As of now, only my ATV and iPad2 are able to.  When I try to connect with the iPhones, I get an error stating "Cannot Connect to Media Library" about halfway through the connection attempt (little progress circle fills in halfway then stops).  My version of iTunes is 11.0.2.
I have tried resetting everything on the entire network including my cable modem, the TimeCapsule (upgraded to latest firmware), even going so far as to do a restore on the iPhone 5 in an effort to get Home Sharing working again.  Nothing I have tried has worked.  I've siged out of Home Sharing on the iMac and all devices...rebooted...no change.  The option to select my shared library is seen in the iPhone 5 but it just won't connect.  This is extremely frustrating as I often have my iPhone streaming from my iTunes library while I'm in other areas of the house.  For now I've resorted to using Pandora but would really like to have access to my music library.
Is anyone else having this or very similar issues?  I see several posts about Home Sharing but most are older and don't seem specific to the iPhone 5 or iOS 6...regardless, the suggestions in any of those posts didn't solve the problem either.

I am having the same issue.  Same hardware, same OS, same circle stopping halfway through.  When I do get it to connect it doesn't last forever.  I ran an experiment and found that the connection drops when I try to use my bluetooth speaker.  If I am streaming from Pandora the connection is fine, no drop.  But apparently it doesn't play nice with the shared library connection?  Does bluetooth interfere with wifi?
