Ipad 3 in sleep mode the wifi shuts off

The wifi on my ipad 3 just started shutting off in sleep mode. Could this be my router? I've tried resetting my ipad.

Your observation is correct about wifi disconnection in sleep mode. That is normal, you may want to check to see if your Mac supports Power Nap/is enabled- OS X: About Power Nap
The reconnect should be automatic within a few seconds.
Does it happen with multiple wifi networks or just one?
Have you tried deleting and re-adding the wifi network?

just curious to see if users are leaving their ipads on but in sleep mode or completely shutting them down when not in use? And does leaving it in sleep mode for a long period adversely affect the ipad?

I have only turned mine off once in the two weeks I've had it. Others have reported that they turn it off to keep from having WiFi problems. I've been fortunate I suppose. Taken it on a business trip, used several different hotspots and haven't had a problem.

Is this happening with one particular network or with all? Make sure iOS is updated on the device.
Try this:
Reboot ipad by pressing and holding both the home and sleep/wake buttons at the same time until the apple logo appears on the screen, then let go. Then try to connect to network.
Go to settings, Toggle airplane mode on/off. Make sure bluetooth is off. Turn on wif (airplane mode off). Try to connect.
Reset Network Settings
Go to settings/general/reset/reset network settings. Then try to connect to network.
If its your home router, then reboot router by unplugging for 5-10min. (do this while you're resetting network settings).
If problem persists, then check for firmware updates on your router.(you check router manufacturer support website for downloads and instructions).

If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copies of the dodgy tracks and try redownloading fresh copies. For instructions, see the following document:

Otherwise, I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".

Settings, Reset, Reset Network Settings. Then attempt to connect again. Passwords will be deleted when you do this, so it will ask for the password again. After that, see if it will connect.

It has already been 6 days from your post, my apology for responding so late, but it is my habit to help only the leftovers, which the other contributors missed.
Toggle the hold switch make sure there is no red showing.
To reboot an iPod. (Or RESET in Apple iPod jargon)
Press Menu and Center button for about 10 secs till the Apple logo comes ON , this would not erase any data from your iPod.
I would advice you to leave the iPod charging for about 4 hours, if it has been discharged for 1 year or more, and also Apple recommends that you charge the iPod at least once a month, to prevent a discharged battery leakage, which may corrrode the circuitry in the iPod.
Hopefully you don't get the dreaded RED X on the iPod screen.

Smart Cover doesn't put iPad into Sleep mode in Unlock position after iOS 8.3 update

Prior to the iOS 8.3 update, closing my Smart Cover would put my iPad into Sleep mode when in the Unlock position. Since the update, this function no longer works in the Unlock position. In the Lock position, I hear the click and the iPad does go into Sleep mode. Since I am the only one using my iPad, I don't need it locked when at home. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

i solved my problem. i refer my iphone 5 to a local distributor. a repairman checked my iphone and i described my problem. he checked my battery. it was fine! then after an hour excavation around hardware solution he told me that the charging kit crashed because of heavy mobility usage!
yes. i did not covered my phone with any cover. the cpu pressure by ios update crashed the kit! now my phone get back after the kit changed and work finally. i restored my phone to ios 8.2 now.
i'm going to buy new iphone. but i'm really confused if such this issue really happened for iphone 6 too!!!!!

I have put up with it for months, until june 7 when I decided it has been long enough, and I got a replacement. I told the genius bar what happened, and I already did the so called "steps" that apple reccommended on the site, which was reset network settings, restore iPhone. The genius bar gave me a replacement phone, so I was expecting that the problem would be over, but it isn't. It seems that it's iOS 6.1.3 which is the case of most public complaints on apple iPhone products. Not even 3 weeks after I got the phone replaced, it is doing it again, so I suspect I'm just going to get a replacement again? Unfortunately I only have until 5th of july 2013 until my 1 year warranty is up. After that, any issue I have, I have to purchase apple care. People are expecting this problem to be fixed but I don't see it being solved any time soon. This is horrible and really low, because I have been a good customer, when I talk to the people at the genius bar, I show the utmost respect I can to them for the work they put into their job, but somewhere there is a problem where something has gone wrong. Because of that, people that only have a one year warranty (which i received because I purchased my apple iPhone at an Optus outlet, once that one year warranty is up, I have to pay for a problem that isn't even my fault? YOu can only do that if you had find my iphone setup and activated prior to having your phone stolen.
Then you log into icloud.com to remote wipe, but your phone has to be connect to wifi or cellular data to do that.

so I have called HP tech support 12 times over the last 6 weeks and still my HP Officejet 4620 loses connection overnight. Of course becasue it was a birthday present I spent more time than I normally would have on this issue. While the tech are very polite they have not fixed my problem and now it is too late to return printer to store. This is a lot of money wasted and I think they need to admit this is a bug in this printer and resolve the problem!!!!!

Same here.... No fix. Replacing is the option apparently and if you're out of warranty, you're SOL. That was as per the "Genius" at Apple.

If you've not yet tried, unpower the AppleTV for a minute or so and restart - this occasionally corrects issues.
If not and the software update seems to have caused an issue, go to the Settings menu and choose to Restore it (this will erase all settings) to reapply current firmware.
