Ipad 3 Iphoto editing and syncing

Hello all!!!  Ok... here is what i have done and what i thought to expect...
I just purchased iphoto for my ipad 3, started up photostream from aperture and everything went well.  Could see all the photos i did in aperture using photostream.  So i go onto my ipad and open up iphoto and open the photostream folder and all my photos are there ready for me.  I edit a photo in the photo stream folder, but when i go to my photos app on my ipad and iphone or even the phtostream folder in aperture they do not update with the editied photo from iphoto in the photostream folder.  I hope i didn't confuse you all too much Anyway, if i edit something in the photostream folder should it not show up on my other devices?

Let me try to get this right. You have edited photos in iPhoto on your iPad and shared them to the camera roll, they show up on your iPad and are also synced with the photo stream folder in Aperture. Is that correct.
Are you sure photo stream is enabled on your iPhone, is your iPhone connected to Wi-Fi, photo stream only works over Wi-Fi.

My wife had an iPad for a year and synced to our computer with no problem.  I recently received an ipad2 and when I tried to sync using separate apple and iTunes passwords, under her computer user name, it appears I over-road her account and synced all her apps with my apps on my iPad.  I then set myself up as a new user on our computer and tried to sync.  I now get the error that my iPad is synced to another library.  How can I start over without erasing all my data on the iPad?

Go back to her login.  Unless you deliberately erased apps, they should all be there, both yours and hers!  Then, you need to set up each iPad separately.  You will notice that they have separate names for that very purpose.
There is no problem with multiple Apple IDs on the same iTunes on the same computer except...  Apps are permanently associated with the ID that was originally used to obtain them.  If you choose to update an app from inside iTunes and you're logged into the "wrong" ID, you must log out and back in again.
On the bright side, you can configure either or both iPads to sync with apps and music and movies, etc. from either or both IDs.  Further, if you choose to update the apps from the iPads themselves, there is no need to log out/in.  The device handles that.  All you need is the correct password.  In my case, I use the same password for both IDs to make things easier.

  • Editing and syncing contacts on more than one iPhone and iPad

I have an iPad 2, and iPhone 3, and iPhone 4 and an iPhone 4S.  I would like to edit my contacts and sync them so that the iPad and the iPhones all have the same contacts on them.  How do I go about this?

  • Using an iMac and mac air together for iPhoto editing and organisation

I want my iMac and macair to be synced for iPhoto purposes.
I followed this thread and have saved my iPhoto library from the iMac to an external drive.
I assume I can plug the drive into the macair and make changes.  Or is it intended that I copy the drive to the macair?
I am having difficulty understanding how the sync of changes on the macair will be reflected on the iMac?

One question, how does this affect syncing to iTunes?  Will it recognise the iPhoto drive on both computers (depending which one has the drive at that time) if I sync photo albums to my iPhone and iPad?
iTunes will always sync with the last iPhoto library that has been used on the computer. If you make sure, that the drive has been connected, before you launch iTunes, it will work, like Old Toad said.
Also, if I do it this way doesn't it become vulnerable due to not being connected at all times to time machine?
if you use the drive with the library the mainly on your iMac, you could exclude it from the TimeMachine backup of your Laptop. Keep it connected to the iMac, when you are not using it on the LapTop.
What would be the process if I only wanted to do this periodically and wanted to keep the main library on the iMac.  Could I work on the drive on the macair and then save it back to the iMac?  How do I do that without duplicating the files?  If I just select copy and paste, will it only overwrite the changed files?
You would have to copy the entire library back and forth again and again, or use iPhoto Library Manager, to merge the changes into the library on the iMac. It would not be an easy workflow.

  • IPhoto editing and help

I've just installed iPhoto 9. Two problems:
    1. When I open Help I get the message 'Help Viewer cannot open this content.' Whats the solution?
    2. When I open Edit on more them half of my library I get an exclamation mark . I have tried ticking the last three boxes in Rebuild Photo Library but I still have the problem of not being able to edit.

    1. When I open Help I get the message 'Help Viewer cannot open this content.' Whats the solution?
That's an issue with the Help Viewer app. I would post that one on the 'Using Mac OS X' forum for your version of the OS.
When I open Edit on more them half of my library I get an exclamation mark ...
The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents. As you've tried iPhoto's own rebuild with no luck you now have two options:
    Restore from your back up
    or
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • IPhoto/iPod and Syncing Albums

Using OS X.3.9 and iPhoto 6.x:
When I sync iPhoto with my new iPod (video), will I be able to browse the photos on the iPod by the same Album names used in iPhoto? Will the iPod list my Albums?
For example, can I present a slideshow of a certain Album on my iPod, then a totally different Album on the same iPod, etc.?

  • When Syncing, my iPad switches screen off and syncing stops

I have the new ipad, and upon syncing, the ipad screen will turn off after a few minutes but the iTunes can't recognizes the iPad anymore. It says "Waiting" but then when I switch the screen back on, the syncing stops.
Its never happened to my original ipad so did I set something wrong?

How long is the waiting? Are you interrupting the processes by switching the screen back on?
Temporarily change the Auotlock to NEVER (Settings, General, Autolock).
Try a Reset [Hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons down together for 10 seconds or so (until the Apple logo appears) and then release. The screen will go blank and then power ON again in the normal way.] It is 'appsolutely' safe!

  • Trying to update iPhoto library and sync

I have two MacBooks: 1 is running OSX 10.6.8 with iPhoto 8.1.2, and the other is running OSX 10.5.8 with iPhoto 7.1.5.  I had about 22 gigs of pictures on each computer, so I recently combined them on an external hard drive using iPhoto Library Manager.
I am simply trying to find a way to store the pictures on a hard drive and access it on either computer, but I am unable to do so. If I open the library on iPhoto 8.1.2, it tells me "The photo library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of iPhoto" but I don't want to do that because then I will be unable to open the pictures on my other computer. If I try to open the library on iPhoto 7.1.5, it tells me "you can't open your current photo library using this version of iPhoto. You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iPhoto."
I have tried updating, but Software Update does not tell me I need any new software, and when I tried to download iPhoto 8.1.2, it told me my computer didn't need the upgrade. What should I do?

You need to have the same version of iPhoto on both machines. That means updating the v7 to a v8 (or, in marketing terms, you'll need to buy and iLife 09 disk somewhere and install from that. Try Amazon or Ebay.)

  • BlackBerry Link and syncing Contacts, Calendar and Tasks with stand-alone desktop installation of Outlook 2010?

I have used Blackberries in business since the beginning. Fantastic products!
Sadly after spending the better part of Feb 6th transitioning from Torch to Z10 I have had to abandon the effort and request an RMA number to return the Z10.
    Here is why:
"Link" appears to be focussed on syncing documents and media like content such as music and movies but does not, from what I can tell, sync Outlook Contacts, Calendar entries or Tasks. I have never bothered putting music or movies on a BB... never had the time to fuss with such... however, I use, edit and sync my Contacts, Calendar and Tasks between my Torch and my desktop PC every day... as in EVERY day!
From a review of postings on various forums there does not appear to be a solution in the works to this problem and the trend appears to be to use a Cloud based email or service to host such "PIM" information and then sync the handheld to the Cloud repository. This method MAY be suitable for some forms of info but it is not suitable to post such personal info on the cloud... it needs to stay on the desktop and in the handheld device, both of which are password protected and looked after carefully.
This is an odd situation, BB (RIM) cut their teeth on pages, emails, BBM and great cell calls, mainly in a business environment. Many small business users live and die on their BB. They do not run Exchange Server... they run Outlook stand alone on a desktop. To remove this functionality from the Z10 (BB10 overall perhaps) seems at best to be a serious oversight.
I wish BB the best with the Z10 and hope to see it do well. For me, I had to make a choice between the efficiency and effectiveness of syncing Outlook Contacts, Calendar and Tasks with the Torch, or hand feeding and maintaining thousands of constantly changing entries into what is undoubtedly a more powerful and wonderful looking Z10. Efficiency and effectiveness won over brawn and beauty. The Torch is back on line... It's a tool... a really great tool! Tomorrow it will process a hundred emails,  numerous SMS messages, a few BBM's, keep me on time and feed me a bunch of useful phone numbers and addresses as it has for a couple of years now. It will also spend an hour or so teathered to my laptop at a remote location where there is cell coverage but no internet. It will NOT display any movies, tweats, twits, or facebook stuff that I won't have time to look at anyway. The fast, powerful, shiny Z10 is heading in an RMA bag back to Telus.
I have a sort of sick feeling in my gut and hope to be able to sync again in the future!

  • I've had my ipad for 6 months and still cannot get my iTunes music on it.  How do I do that???

I've had my iPad mini for 6 months and still cannot get my iTunes music on it.  What am I doing wrong??

I have tried everything.  When I open my iTunes, the iPad icon comes up on the top right and shows the circling arrows and at the top is has iTunes Match, sending info to Apple.  When I click the iPad icon, it states my iOS 6.1.3. and is up-to-date.  I have a 32 GB Wi-Fi iPad.  It says I have 28.34 capacity left.  I have it set to automatically back up on iCloud (I have 15 GB of space in iCloud).  At the bottom it says I have 447 photos and 42 apps.  However, I can count that I only have 31 pictures that I see in my Photos.
I probably have the almost 500 photos on my phone, though.  And I'm able to get some music to my phone**.
Under Options I have checked: Open iTunes when this iPad is connected, Sync this iPad over Wi-Fi, and sync only checked songs.
Today I tried dragging a number of playlists to the iPad icon.  It didn't go to my iPad; **however, now it's on my phone.
When I open the music app in my iPad, the cloud icon shows up and the bar under it fills up, it says there's no music.
Appreciate any help...they tell me I am not eligible for tech support via chat.

  • Sharing Photo's between Aperture and iPhoto and syncing to iPads, etc

    Here is my problem.
I have 5 Macs (1 iMac, 4 laptops.) There are 4 people in my family and we have the family pack of iLife. The iMac is where everything sits with a time capsule and Drobo hanging off of it - about 6 TB's of data. Each Mac sync's with a variety of iPods, iTouchs and iPads. All linked to a user. So for example, all my oldest son's devices sync with only his laptop.
Well, I finally fixed my media (songs, movies, TV shows, etc) problem by leveraging home share in iTunes and authorizing all my Macs. But not so lucky yet for Photo's.
Here is the my photo dilemma.
I like Aperture for the editing and ability to handle large libraries better. So I have Aperture installed on the iMac where everything sits. iPhoto is also installed on the iMac and iPhoto is on all 4 other laptops. Prior to moving to Aperture, sharing photo's between computers was relatively easy using sharing in iPhoto - although it appears sharing in iPhoto is different than home share in iTunes. I converted my iPhoto library on the iMac to Aperture - now sharing is a pain in the neck.
Ideally, a Home Share like feature would be built into Aperture and iPhoto with another feature that would allow you to "check for new photos" on the laptops and pull them into Aperture - but wishful thinking right now.
So my while my 2 new iPads are awesome - they are basically useless for Photo's as they are synced to 2 laptops that use iPhoto, but all my Photos are in Aperture on the iMac.
    Thoughts anyone????
    Thanks

    What was the question?

  • IPad and iPhoto editing

First, is there a NEW iPad, since first edition last May? If so, can you download to iPad digital card of
photos, and do any editing on the iPad, while on a remote trip? Or do you have to download to iMac
iPhoto app, edit there, and then sync to your iPad to share with others? We are scuba divers and I
wanted to download on a dive trip to see in larger format than my u/water camera, and share w/trip friends. Do not think 1st iPad allowed any editing, rotation, deletes, etc.

No, the only iPad currently available is the model released last April. However, it is generally expected that Apple will announce the iPad 2 within the next few weeks. If you haven't purchased one yet, I would strongly recommend waiting.
About photo editing: The built-in 'Photos' app does not support any kind of editing, and there is no iPhoto for iPad. However, there are quite a few editing apps available in the app store. Personally, I wasn't satisfied with any of them (doesn't support Dropbox, horrid interface, etc), so I'm developing my own, called PhotoEdit. It should be released within the first half of 2011.
    Hope that helps,
    Liam
