IPAD 3 is very hot

After my first update, my iPad becomes very hot. Is there any solution?.
I think it can be dangerous.

The best measure to determine whether the iPad is hot or not doesn't require rocket science. Not much of personal sense of feel. Instead, it's how the battery reacts to the device's heat.
According to Apple, the iPads' battery temperature treshold is  32° to 95° F. That’s 0° to 35° C.
In the case of iDevices, environmental temperature=operating temperature because of a known fact that in Apple designs, they've stripped out the plastic made protective shield of the battery, thus decreasing the battery's heat resistance.
(In my course of landing with the current 3rd iPad, I was told by an AppleCare consultant that iPads that operate over 34.6°, they qualify for exchanges. no second word)
Make sure a full discharge is conducted
Fully charge the iPad without using it
Remove all iPad cases
Use the iPad at normal conditions, probably keep brightness at 75% at most. Now run applications like games that are not retina supported. Then, include games like Real Racing2 HD (a Retina game) in your test.
Measure both results using...
An infrared thermometer/ thermal scanner to pick the heat numbers from the back of the iPad, especially the lower left corner beside the home button.
If heat is proven to be above, especially way above 35celcius. The message is glaring at you; the iPad is producing more heat than what it can take, its a manufacturing defect.
Go get an exchange if the heat is indeed over 35 celicius or 95f

  • IPad charger gets very hot

When I charge my iPad using the cord that came with it, there's not much heat in the charger part, but if I use an extension cord with it, the charger gets almost too hot to handle.  I went into the Apple store to buy a longer cord so I could charge it while still using it, but they told me just to go ahead and use an extension cord.
Why does the charger get hot with an extension cord, but not when it's directly inserted into the wall socket?  And is this going tone a problem?

I use an extension cord with my power adapter to charge my new iPad and I do the same thing with my original iPad. The power block gets warm, but not "hot" when I use an extension cord. The power block gets warm if I plug it directly into a wall socket as well. Again - it gets warm but not "hot".
My first suggestion would be to try another extension cord. Maybe the one that you are using is faulty.

  • IPad 3 very hot w battery drain when streaming AirPlay!

Why does my iPad 3 get very hot and battery drains very quickly only when streaming with AirPlay?

Just in case anyone else is experiencing the same or similar scenario that I was (see first post), turns out that the Apple Care Geniuses determined that the PMU (Power Management Unit - I think the "U" is for "unit" anyway), was corrupted or not working properly, so too much power was being used for tasks that shouldn't have used up so much power.
They replaced my unit, it may or or may not be a refurbished unit, although it looks new and was manufactured on a later date than the one I brought in.
The Geniuses were very helpful and didn't just turn me away saying to "turn down the brightness or turn off WiFi when not in use" which I do anyway.

  • *My* new iPad is also TOO HOT!

I just want to post here too that my iPad runs SOOOOOO VERY hot!
I mean, I'm no scientist... but I can say it gets hot enough that it HURTS TO HOLD. Not very Apple, but I am sure they will address this issue. I just wanted to post to say that little ole me is experiencing this too.
    Paul

No, not yet. I am an Apple fanboy... So I'm buying a lot of the new products offered.
When there's an issue, it's good for all of us to post about it. When people post, Apple takes it into consideration and will provide a fix or a statement.
Then i can decide how to move forward. Anyone with this issue be sure to post.

  • HT4060 When I charge my ipad on some occasions the plug gets very HOT.  the ipad still charges but slower.????

When I charge my ipad using the small UPSpower adapter, the adapter gets very HOT on about every third use.  It still charges but more slowly.  Is any one having a similiar problem??  An sugstions as to how to correct it???

Not staff or owner by a long shot.
I just know that anecdotally I have seen people reporting issues with their mini's charging. Is there a real issue or not? I don't know. Not a day goes by that a person doesn't post here complaining that their iPad won't charge and it turns out that they're trying to do it via USB or with the iPhone block.
But while there are a lot of user fixes sometimes it's good to have the pros take a look at things, and at the very least document that there has been an issue.
the four main reasons an iPad won't charge (beyond being plugged into a USB port)
    Bad cable
    bad outlet
    bad brick
rule those out and it leaves issue with the iPad.

  • Ipad mini charger getting very hot

ipad mini charger getting very hot. Not the ipad. What is it? A problem, or normal?

Warm is normal. Too hot to handle, literally, is not. So if you can hold it, then it's probably fine. Mine gets hot when it's charging. But if it's too hot for you to hold then you should stop using it and get it checked out an apple store.

  • I have a new iPad with retina display it seems to get very hot is this right

Should the iPad get very hot ?

I would recomend turning down your brightness of your screen.  It should be put to to 50-60% and now the iPadwill not get warm. Still you can feel the heat but at least it does not get as warm as using 100% brightness.

  • My iPad 3 with wifi gets very hot-is this usual?

My new iPad becomes very hot while I'm using it. It's become very difficult to read a book. Does anyone else have this problem?

an iPad will get warm, as the battery is being used, but it should not be so that you can not hold it.
I use a case granted, but I can use my iPad happily even when it gets a bit warm.
Have you had your iPad long?
It is worth a trip to see an Apple Genius if an Apple store is near you. You can make an appointment via the Apple website.

  • My refurbished iPad 3 charged for first time it and charger got very hot is that normal

just replaced my refurbished iPad 3 with another.  Tried to charge it for first time.  Noticed it got very hot and so did charger.  I don't recall my other iPad doing this  is this a defect in the ipad?

    Define "hot".
If fully drained both the battery (that essentially fills up most of the body of the device) and the charger will get quite warm, though not unbearable. Time to charge will vary according to device: my iPad 4 takes about 6 hours if almost flat, but takes about 40 min if at 75%.
Be sure to use ONLY its original charger OR chargers that are rated for iPads. They draw twice the current as phones and will cause phone chargers to get much warmer than usual.

  • TS3274 My iPad gets very hot even with short term use. Is this normal?

My iPad gets very hot even with short term use. Is this normal?

I assume that you mean your new iPad - the 3rd generation model. No - that is not normal. Some users have reported this issue and it may be that you have a faulty device.
It may get a little warmer than the previous models of iPads but it should not get "very hot" under any circumstances. Return it - take it to an Apple Store and let a Genius have a look - contact Apple however you need to do so - and let them know about it - but that is NOT normal.

  • While charging my ipad when i plugged in the adapter, the adapter and the usb port gets very very hot... Is this normal? I replaced my ipad and adapter but the problem still exist.

While i charge my ipad with adapter the adapter more specifically the internal round cell of adapter and the usb port becomes very very hot... And ultimately my ipad back starts heating a bit. Is that normal?

Take your charger, cable & iPad to an Apple Store for evaluation.
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery

At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night.
