IPad 3/LTE intermittent wifi issue.

My iPad 3LTE drops its wifi connection frequently. I've been doing side by side tests with my iPhone and ipad2 and the connection issue is really noticeable when compared to them.  Is this happening to anyone else?

PS. In order to preempt any of the following suggestions, I already:
-did a full system restore on the Ipad (twice)
-reset network settings (a bunch of times)
-rebooted the Ipad and laptop
-updated OSX and itunes to the latest version

    Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

  • Intermittent WiFi issue following Windows 10 upgrade

My acer Aspire V3-571 has been intermittently losing WiFi for past 2 days since Windows 10 upgrade from Windows 7 Home Premium. The Aspire has:Atheros wireless network adapter AR5BWB222 10.0.0.38 Wed. 2/15/12 So far, I have:1. In the Atheros AR5BWB222 Wireless Network Adapter Properties,I  unchecked the box in the Property Management tab which read Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power. 1b. Made sure airplane mode was in off position.
1c. Forget exactly where I did this, but made sure settings in another ? location were set at "Maximum Performance."
    2. Checked that firmware is up to date on my network router, with security set to WPA 2-PSK (AES).
    3. Searched through many forums to read responses of folks upgrading to Windows 10 with WiFi issues--seems this is widespread problem, though no one has said WiFi signal loss was intermittent, as is my laptop's. Internet hits for my searches also show WiFi issues occurred in the past for installs of Windows 8. (So far have not come across mentions of WiFi issues for past installs of Windows 7).
    4. While exploring my laptop, I came across a page of Microsoft Updates--SEE ATTACHED. I was surprised to note that these updates are released quite frequently over the course of a day. For example 10 separate updates between 4:24 PM and 11:30 PM on Aug 1 and 18 separate updates between 12:06 AM and 3:57 PM on Aug 2.  Am including part of the record of updates for August 1 and August 2. I am aware that Microsoft uses my WiFi to AUTOMATICALLY download updates. Is it possible that this intermittent  download of updates cause the intermittent  interruptions of the WiFi??
    5. This afternoon, when the WiFi was not working for Windows 10. I reinstalled as a dual boot, Ubuntu 14.04. I had no difficulty connecting to WiFi from Ubuntu.
    Have not yet:
    1. I have not yet tried connecting the laptop via Ethernet cable to my router during one of these WiFi outages.
    2. My ISP is a VOIP/Internet setup, using one Westell and one Cisco router. I have not considered if they might be a cause of the problem.
    3. I read on one forum that someone fixed their WiFi connection issue by changing their router security setting to include TKIP NOTE: I may need to put attachment of screen grab of Windows 10 updates in a separate email reply to this post as this post is not accepting the attachment.
Would appreciate any comments or suggestions. Thanks in advance.
I shall likely also put this out on a Windows 10 forum elsewhere.

  • Iphone 6 LTE AND WIFI ISSUE

me and my friend both using iphone 6 but his LTE AND WIFI works smoothly But mine doesn work that well! watching the same video using LTE he can watch but i cant even load the video! WHY? any help?
AT first i was on iso 8  LTE AND WIFI really *** , so i upgraded it to ios 8.0.2  but still the same, and my friend's iphone6 stays in 8 but works fine !
i have reset the network it doesn fix the problem either.

I have this exact same issue with the iPhone 6 Plus. After numerous calls to AppleCare several resets and restore restores from backup, restore as new, and visits to the Genius Bar at the Apple store, Apple dose not appear to have an answer yet. This is happening on all Wi-Fi networks home, Xfinity, Apple Store, and Starbucks. It does not appear to be related to the Wi-Fi network in use. I have been asked to give it a week and see if it gets better but somehow I do not think this is going to work. The Apple Store has even replace my phone and I still experience the same issues.
    What am I missing?

  • Ipad mini retina dispaly wifi issues 8.0.2

    Hello,
Ipad Mini Retina Display version ios 8.0.2
    Model ME814C/A
    Scenario:
Before the upgrade to 8.0.2 WIFI the IPAD connected immediately when I arrived home and browsing the Internet was fast (did not do a speed test before the upgrade).
After the upgrade to 8.0.2 WIFI shows as being connected in the General Tab but I am unable to browse the internet. Messages come in to Facebook Messenger but I am unable to respond to them because it shows as connecting.
What I've done to Troubleshoot the issue:
I have to go to General, WIFI, Turn Off WIFI and turn it back on then it connects. I leave the ipad idle for say 1 min and again it disconnects from the WIFI.
I went to General clicked on reset  and clicked on Reset Network settings and the result is the same.
I went to General and clicked erase all contents and settings and I still get the same result.
I switched DNS to 8.8.8.8 and still the same result.
Apple support are you working to address these lingering wifi issues?
    Much appreciated
    Tacobell2000

I have two different ISPs.  My connection to U-verse is very slow, but my iPad mini connects rIght away and stays connected.  My TWC connection is much faster yet the iPad connection lasts for a very short time, unless I am sitting directly in front of the router with the iPad almost touching it.  It always shows that the iPad is connected though.  Otherwise I am constantly rebooting the iPad, removing and re entering the router info, turning wifi on and off, etc.  before the 8.0 update, my mini worked perfectly.

  • IPad and iPhone Intermittent WiFi with Cisco

I have around 35 iPhones and iPads that are at best intermittent with our internal wireless network. I have been working with Cisco for two days and they are unable to resolve the issue. The WiFi works perfectly with our notebooks so it is definetly narrowed down to the Apple hardware needing a special configuration other than the ones we have tried.
I am currently using a Cisco WLC2106 controller with 1142N access points. The dhcp is working. I can forget the network or turn off the WiFi and back on and get an assigned address. At first it took several minutes to populate but Cisco helped me resolve that first problem. The iPhones and iPads will get the private IP but will not allow it to go out on the Internet. I get a good association (WiFi indicator in top-left is full strength.) At times one iPad will connect and another will stop working. For example: yesterday I had my iPad, laptop, and iPhone while I was working with Cisco. All three were connected to the WiFi network with seperate IP's. The laptop never stopped working. My iPhone worked for a few minutes and then I left the office with my phone for about 20 miinutes. When I returned the iPad worked but my iPhone did not, even after making sure the iPhone reconnected and gave it more than 10 minutes and a reboot. I have configured 1 iPad1, 2 iPad2's, and four iPhone 4's. They are all intermittent and I have yet to figure out any formula for why one might work while the others stop. I have done resets on them, statically assigned ip's, and changed DNS settings. Again, the laptop never missed a beat while the iPads just come and go. The way I have been testing is through using a website in Safari on the iPad or iPhone to check the external IP to make sure it is our ISP and not using ATT 3G. I also check the App Store which also fails on WiFi. The WiFi works fine at home with my linksys router. I have tried changing the WiFi encryption from WPA2 to WEP and even disabled the security for testing. Even with no encryption the same result prevails. Maybe one out of five tries to connect works and it alternates between devices. If I didn't know any better I would think it was an IP conflict or a maximum connection limit somewhere.
    Here is the general config:
Cisco based wireless using no encryption. I will eventaully need to go WPA2 but for troubleshooting I have tried it as open. I am not broadcasting SSID. I CAN connect to WiFi network and receive IP, Gateway, DNS, and Domain Name consistently. I CANNOT access the Internet consistently. This is a business network with Cisco Catalyst Switches, Routers, and Firewalls. Again, the laptops that connect using WiFi are working as intended,
Does Apple have publicly accessible engineers for these situations? I have left the case open with Cisco in order to provide as much information as possible to Apple.
    Thanks for any suggestions.

Internally I am not blocking any traffic. I have over 100 other Windows devices, cameras and printers on this single subnet. I'm not using any other Apple hardware at this time so I'm not sure what the Bonjour will do for me that TCP/IP can't do. I am also not using Bonjour at either of the homes I have done other testing on.
One more tidbit. One of our goals is to use FaceTime between the iPads. I have successfully connected a few times between the devices but it's almost every time I connect two iPads to FaceTime they will not connect again. Without changing anything else on the WiFi or the Firewall I can come back the next day, reset the iPads, obtain Internet access and the FaceTime will work. Thanks gyrhead!

  • IPad 2 32 Gig Wifi Issues (Non 3G)

I received an iPad 2 as a gift last spring and a few months ago my Wifi suddenly just stopped picking up the Wifi. It ony picks up maybe one network if you are really close to the router and not even at 3 bars. Literally like face to face and if you take 2 steps back you loose it.
I've had 5.1.1 and updated it to ios 6 thru itunes. I tried everything from restoring it, reseting the router, and even to bringing it to Apple. They said they couldn't do anything about it except replace it for $250.
This is really upsetting and I do not know what to do. I don't have the money nor apple care to replace it either

    Hi Nick,
I had a look about the net, but could only find a very rudimentary manual for the Router you indicated. I'm not even sure that Router does transmit a 5 Ghz wifi network. Couldn't seem to see much else to help you in the settings for the wifi that I could see in any screen shots. Perhaps you need to call their tech support and confirm that feature is available with that device. Also, I'm unsure that renaming that 5 Ghz network is the definitive answer. That said, have you tested your wireless at another location to confirm that your router is the issue?
    Good luck,
    Craig

  • IPads/iPhone and Open Wifi Issue

Running Cisco wireless at a larger university and We're running into issues with ipads and iphones on our network.  We run an Open guest network.  No encryption.  But are having difficulty getting ipads and iphones, of variying models, getting connected reliably.   We get "error joining network" messages, but only for the Open networks.  Also, it seems Random.  3 out of 4 times it fails and then it will connect a few times and then fail again.  It makes no sense whatsoever.
    Here is out network setup:
    Wireless network enryption:  None (Open)
    WLC is a 5508 Running version 7.0.222.0
We also have 2-4400 models running 7.0.222.0
APs are 1131's (ABG) and 1142's (AGN)
We have run several tests to confirm that this seems isolated to our Cisco envirnoment and only Open networks.  We have another vendors products on site (That we've been slowly replacing with Cisco) and have the same network configured there and are not having these issues.  We have also tried putting a WPA2-PSK password on the network for testing purposes, and that elminates the issues, however, we need this network to be Open due to requirements on our end.
We've tested everything from iPad 1's up to iPad 3's all running the latest iOS 5.1.1 as well as iPhone4 and iPhone4S version running 5.1.1.  All seem to have the issue.
I'm running out of ideas for testing and troubleshooting this issue.  Any help or direction would be greatly apprecated.
    Thank You.

    I better explain this better:)
The session timeout will force a user to have to log back on the webauth. Idle timeout will allow the wlc to know of the iDevice even if it goes to sleep, or else it will timeout after 300 seconds which is default. Fast SSID change might not be needed unless you want the ability or devices to be able to switch to a different SSID or else the will have to wait for around 30 seconds.

  • Lenovo x131e intermittent WiFi issues

Hello spicy friends! This is my first OP on Spiceworks, please bear with me.My company sends laptops to sites around the USA and abroad for clinical trials. Recently (in the last 2 months) we've been getting an increasing number of calls regarding WiFi problems. The problems seem to be intermittent and they vary slightly from site to site, but here are the common factors:Lenovo x131e (build: 3372-2WU, other builds are not affected)Can see networks, but cannot connect (sometimes gets message: Unable to connect, but not consistently; other times it just states limited access and a tracert reveals it's unable to hit anything outside of itself)Wired connectivity is not affectedMany sites have 2 or more of our laptops, and the other one works fine (in one case they have 2 of the same build, one works, one doesn't). Other models are not...
This topic first appeared in the Spiceworks Community

    We use a custom image.
    We use Windows 7 32bit.
I have tried Lenovo drivers and Realtek drivers.
I have uninstalled video drivers and audio drivers and allowed windows update to update the missing drivers and for some reason everything so far is fine on one of the laptops. Need more time and more tests to see if this is a working solution.
BTW when setting up the laptops we run Lenovo Update first to install all missing drivers then windows update to install remaining ones as the image that we use hasn't got all the drivers installed for some reason. I found online that some users complained that it was to do with the video drivers causing the audio loss.
Anyway I am going to test this on another affected computer soon and see what happens. Whatever it is I have never come across something like that before and other people are affected by this bug too.

  • Intermittent wifi issues post OS6 Upgrade

Apps are slower and recently wifi has completely cut out, then come back randomly.  Today I show a wifi connection icon, but have no connectivity.  Has Apple admitted a bug with this upgrade?  Reminds me of MS back in the old days.

I had these problems prior to the OS4 upgrade. Sometimes I cradle the ipod touch in my hand, other times I hold it like the damned fragile egg it seems to be. All my windows machines have relatively less connectivity errors. Occasionally they fritz out. The ipod touch seems to only stay connected when I am about four feet away from the router, sitting directly in front of my desktop. Initially, it worked downstairs in the kitchen, my friend has one and was watching movies on it down there. If I am not in the same router room, I will get differing signal strengths from full to one bar. Even if it is next to a laptop showing full signal. The drops are frustrating, having to sometimes completely re-enter the security phrase. It's a bugger even on a real keyboard.
I don't use it too often or have many apps that require wifi, but mainly for convenience after all the battery life is better than my laptops dead one.
It definitely gets annoying trying to browse the web and having to cycle out of safari, into settings, wifi, select my network, go back and repeat, make trip to router room, and go back to where I was. Sure I get exercise but I don't have the nike thing..... nor do I need added exercise.

  • IPad 2 WiFi Issue Answered (possibly)

    Hi All,
It turns out that there may be an issue with all the ipad 2's. I have even been to an apple store and demonstrated to the manager this issue. It appears whenever your hand holds the ipad near the speaker (landscape mode most commonly) the wifi strength is significantly reduced and once 5-10m away from a modem/router it actually drops out. I have tried this with 4 different modems/routers with the same result. I have also demonstrated this to the manager at JB HiFi where i just returned my 64gb 3G black ipad 2. I don't know how this issue has not been formally verbalised as yet. After seeing the genius bar at the apple store I asked for the manager and told her about the problem which she ended up telling me if you don't think you can deal with it return it. I tried to deal with it but in the end it got to me. I am disappointed at firstly I could not just get a replacement because they all do it and secondly that apple would release a product with such a fundamental flaw. I can not believe that this was not picked up in testing of the unit before release or were apple rushing this product out before they were ready. The shortage may be an indication. I did love my ipad 2 although the wifi issue ruined it. I hope this sheds some light on some of the wifi issues for some users. Let me know if this helps.
    Matt,

I am disappointed at firstly [SIC] I could not just get a replacement because
they all do it and secondly that apple would release a product with such
    a fundamental flaw.
How is this a fundamental flaw? This is a device with a radio transmitter/receiver in it. It has to go somewhere or it would not have wireless capabilities. It is a handheld device, no matter where Apple puts it, someone will want to cover that spot, whether with their hand or by placing it in their lap. If you have seen a teardown of the iPad 2, most of the inside is taken up by the batteries and the electronics are placed around the edges. I would imagine that wi-fi was placed near the speakers because folks are least likely to cover the speakers if they are listening to something.
Next you will be telling us that the camera is a fundamental flaw as well because some fool somewhere will just have to hold the iPad 2 where the camera is located and so they cannot enjoy making FaceTime calls!
This is good to know, but in the larger scheme of the iPad 2, it is a giant non-issue.

  • IPad mini lte safari issues

My iPad mini lte has an issue with safari. I cannot view any websites other than google through the search area. I tried closing, clearing cache, history and even reset. Nothing seem to work. Any help would be appreciated

I think I understand more clearly now.
You said that you reset - do you mean that you held the sleep and home buttons down at the same time until the Apple logo appeared and that didn't work?
Start all over again. Clear Safari, close the app completely and then reboot the iPad.
    Settings>Safari>Clear History, cookies and data.
Tap the home button to go to the home screen, double tap the home button to bring up the recent apps at the bottom. Tap and hold down on the Safari icon until it wiggles. Tap the red minus sign on the icon to close it. Tap the home button.
Reboot the iPad. Hold down on the sleep and home buttons until the Apple logo appears. Ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen.
After the iPad fully restarts, try Safari again.

  • IPad Wifi intermittent connection issues

    Hi Folks,
I combed through the forum to see if anyone else has reported this issue. WOW, I was surprised at the wide range of general Wifi problems. Although many, many wifi issues are listed, I did not find a post already listing one.
My Wifi seems to work great on first glance, but when using the iPad for more than 5 minutes the issue becomes noticeable. This occurs while doing pretty much anything. I notice it the most when web surfing and reading books in iBooks. The wifi signal indicator in the status bar drops off to nothing, usually just for 10 seconds or so, then it reconnects. Sometimes it takes longer and at which time a little blue dialog box appears that says "Connecting..." Then it connects and life goes on. Rince and repeat 5-10 minutes later.
Now, I have a feeling it might be something with my Airport Base Station Extreme (ABSE) and here is why: My wife also has an iPad, and the same thing happens to her. It's not an extremely old ABSE, as it is "Extreme" running 7.4.2. I have tried several different settings on the ABSE including reverting to default settings and simply setting it up again with the most basic settings.
So, I am unsure if this problem is caused by the iPad or the ABSE, but either way, it is annoying. Was just wondering if others had experienced this and how they may have solved it. Judging by the wide range of serious wifi issues listed on this forum, it seems to be that Apple has some serious work to do on Wifi in general and maybe all these issues will be resolved in an update.
    TIA
    Lintila

I have relatively the same problem and a somewhat similar setup as you (airport extreme), but there are a few differences (for one, my wifi signal icon just disappears instantly and then the connecting dialogue box comes on). Haven't figured it out yet but I can add a couple things I have noticed. First, when it disconnects from my wifi, if I press the sleep button to turn the screen off and then press the home button to turn it back on and swipe the slider, the wifi is instantly connected back again. Second, for me, I notice it only occurs in 2 specific locations in my house and nowhere else...when I am laying on the couch and when I am laying in bed...hmmmm, maybe the gods are telling me not to get too complacent with my iPad. ;O) There are other locations in the house that are further from the base station and I don't have this problem so range is not the problem. And this problem only occurs periodically for me (maybe once or twice a day if that) so it is not too much of a pain. If it occurred often like it is doing for you, I would be a little more irritated. I will keep an eye out and will post back if I learn anything. For now, I am going to assume that this is just a typical kink in a new product that will eventually iron itself out on its own just as has happened in years past with various bugs in other devices.

Which means exactly what? One iPad can connect intermittently and one doesn't connect at all?  This makes it sound to me like you are having WiFi issues with both of them. At least that's how I interpret your statement.
Start by rebooting your router. Unplug it for about 30 seconds and then plug it in again.
