IPad 3 not visible to iTunes unless plugged in via USB...

I am not sure when it started but my iPad 3 does not show up in the devices section of
iTunes and wifi sync will not start when initiated from the iPad 3. It just keeps searching.
Wifi *is* on and working fine.
My iPhone 4s does not have this problem.
If I plug the USB cable into the iPad3 then the iPad 3 does show up in the devices
section of iTunes and will sync in either direction.
Does anyone have a clue to the nature of this problem?

According to your profile you are running v10.6.3. Click your Apple menu  / Software Update. That will update your system to v10.6.5.
Then repair permissions. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.
Now restart the iPad.
Now try syncing the iPad with your Mac. If that didn't help, click here
Device not recognized in iTunes for Mac OS X for further instructions.

IPhone and iPad not visible in iTunes--but i can still sync...

So, I was having trouble connecting my iPhone 5 via USB to my Windows 8 PC and iTunes 11.
I tried stopping and restarting the Apple mobile service. I also deleted the Generic USB hubs and restarted the PC.
Just for kicks, I unchecked the box that prevented automatic syncing.
Now, iTunes is syncing both the iPhone (connected via USB) and the iPad (via Wifi)--but I just can't see them on my PC.
Suggestions? I'm a little reluctant to uninstalled and reinstall iTunes--I keep my iTunes library on an external and I seem to recall creating duplicate entries for every song last time I tried that...

Iphone 5 / Ipad not visible in itunes for wireless syncing

Hi
Could anyone shed any light in to why my devices randomly decide not to show in the left hand side of itunes when they can sometimes be only a few feet from the router - it does seem to be random as they often do show - but you can guarantee when I want to wirelessly sync they do not show and I'm back to good old tethering again.

I have the same issue, with my brand new iphone 5s, and my 4 month old dell desktop. The computer recognizes the iphone when i plug in the usb, but itunes will not. I dont know what to do.

IPhone 3G not appearing in either iPhoto or iTunes when plugged in via USB

No longer getting my iPhone 3G to appear as a device in either iTunes or iPhoto (my wife's iPhone 3G either) when plugged in to my powerbook's USB port or the second USB port on my Apple keyboard. Also the iPhone is no longer charging from these USB ports.
Tried different USB cables.
Wife's iPhone on iPhone 3.0. Mine on 3.1.
Then tried using same USB cables to connect via her old flat panel iMac. it worked!
Then I tried plugging the iPhone USB cable into the other Powerbook USB port normally used by my keyboard.
Nothing. Including no charging.
Looks like a problem with the USB connections on the Powerbook with the circuitry that connects to an iPhone. The keyboard works fine in either of the USB ports. And the USB ports on my 20" screen that connect to at least some of my external drives also seem to be working. They appear on my desktop.
Is the internal circuitry on the Powerbook USB ports such that some external devices can remain supported while other USB devices are not recognized?

Have you tried assigning your iPod a different drive letter? See these instructions below:
Log off of any other users on your computer (and disconnect any iPods that are currently connected to your computer, as well)
Then, put your iPod into Disk Mode, then follow these steps:
1 - Don’t plug in your iPod yet.
2 - Go to "START -> Control Panel -> Admin Tools (if you don't see this, click on "classic view" button on the left panel) -> Computer Management."
3 - Click on the "Disk Management" button in the left panel area.
4 - Now, with "Computer Management" and Control Panel windows opened, reset your iPod, and connect it.
5 - Right-click on your iPod's listing there (after a few moments when it gets recognized in this drive window), and click on "Change Drive letter and Paths". Then the "Change..." button.
Assign your iPod the letter "M" "N", "O" or the like (further along in the alphabet).

If your iPod isn't recognize to assign it a different letter, or the above steps still don't work, then try disconnecting all other USB devices from your computer (other than your mouse and keyboard), and see if you can re-assign your iPod's drive letter works.

HT1296 My itunes on my pc is not recognizing my iphone being plugged in via USB, what do I do?

I am trying to connect my iphone to my pc via USB to get my pic's on my pc. I have done this before with no problem. I simply plugged in my iphone and a pop-up came up in the bottom right corner of my computer screen saying device recoginzed (or something like that). I clicked on it and hand no issues. Now when I plug in my iphone all it does is show on the phone like it's being charged but no pop up on my computer. I even went into itunes and it doesn't recognize it there either. Usually I go to my library and in the right top corner there is a "Device" button to click on but it's not there anymore. What should I do?

Go into the control panel, add/remove programs, look for the 'apple mobile device driver', uninstall it, then try plugging your iPad into a different usb port or try uninstalling/reinstalling iTunes again.
That driver has a bad habit of getting corrupted or messed up and the only way to fix it is to remove it, then trigger your computer to reinstall it....which is where the different usb port, reinstalling iTunes comes in.
Also, if you are using a hub or extenderr to plug in the iPad, stop and plug it directly into the computer.

IPad not reconized by itunes when plugged in

Tried to update iPad came back to a screen telling me to connec to itunes when I do it dings like the computer is connecting to it but wont show in devices on itunes?? iPad is locked wont let me do anything just keeps going back to that screen of conect to itunes

1. Make sure that your device is not hidden (left hand pane). If it just reads device then toggle between SHOW and HIDE.
2. Try all the other ports on your computer, even a number of times.
3. Make sure your lead /connections are not faulty.
4. If you have another computer try plugging your device into it without taking any action, give it a moment, remove it and try it back in your other computer again.
5. Make sure you have the latest version o iTunes installed.
6. If using Widows, make sure all Windows Updates are installed.

8. And failing all that put the device into Recovery mode. See here and note the paragraph 'If you restore from a different computer.... ' down near the bottom of the page -

IPad not visible in iTunes 10.5 after iOS upgrade yesterday

Yesterday I installed iTunes 10.5, connected my iPad 1 and upgraded to the latest ios 5.0. It eventually completed installing and restoring, but reported one app that didn't restore. So today I reconnected the iPad to the same port on the same Mac Pro with the same cable, and now cannot see it in iTunes. Both the iPad and iTunes seem to otherwise be working properly and I have rebooted both the iPad and the computer. Am I missing something?

Maybe that's why I got lucky? I have 10.7.2. I have to tell you howeer that I did not check any check box in settings on the Notebook to enable Wifi sync, or in iTunes on the notebook. I did have options when setting up the iPad and I selected sync with computer rather than back up to cloud. Maybe that is another difference? I feel feel fortunate that as I type this my iPad is syncing over wifi and you're all having trouble.
Just to confirm I have iTunes 10.5 MacOSX 10.7.2 and iOS5 installed on the iPad. I'm going to dive in and do the phone now too. I will report any troubles, or pay more careful attention when the iCloud settings and set up come on the screen. Maybe I did something else I don't remember.

IPad & iPad not connecting to iMac 21.5 Mavericks via USB!

My iPad 2 and iPhone 5 are not connecting properly to my new iMac. They have connected with USB cable without issue over the last couple of days, but today, as soon as they connect to the cable they both just flash on/off/on/off/on/off. It is like the cable is dodgy or not pushed incorrectly! However, I have tried several cables with both devices with no joy, and strangely my wife's iPhone 4S connects and stays connected without problem!

My iPad2 works great now after IOS 8.1 Update
I did my iPad2 update thru iTunes on my iMac and it was sucking the iMacs memory very low during the update. Safari froze before loading the first web page and I did a hard boot and went fishing as I saw where it was going to take a long time to recover. When I tried again it wasn't quite right and then did one more hard boot and then did a Reset by going to General-Reset-"Reset all Settings" and it works real well now without loosing any data and in-home wi-fi clocks at 17Mbps download. Probably like most of you I’m sticking with OSX 10.9.5 Mavericks as it gets the job done very nicely and don’t need all that extra fancy stuff that probably will slow things down.

HELP, Ipod nano 4 GB v 1.2 not visible in itunes v7.02.16

I did the update for Itunes v7.02.16 and after this my ipod nano 4 GB firmware v1.2 was not visible in itunes but in de windows explorer it was shown. I was more then a hour on the phone with a support guy, with the result (his opinion) that it was a hardware problem. His advice was updating the usb driver. I did, but the problems was not solved. I did the same install on 2 other computer and all gave the same problems, I've tried all the solutions on the faq etc, the 5 R's etc.
A strange thing is that de diagnostic in Itunes tells me all the information about the connectec ipod, it shows the serial nummer. name, busspeed, firmware etc.
WHO can help, my mind is empty.

I am having a similar problem. However, I have not updated my USB drive. How did you do that?
For the support guy (or gal)...I have an iPod nano 2 GB and when I plug it into my USB port (I have 2 ports and have tried both) iTunes opens but doesn't recognize that my iPod is connected. When I run iPod diagnostics through iTunes it says iPod Connection Status-Failed, even though it is connected. I cannot sync my iPod via iTunes. I have tried numerous troubleshooters on the apple.com support website without any success (reinstalling iTunes, etc.) I took it to an Apple store this weekend and when they hooked my iPod up with my cable, their Mac recognized my iPod. If anyone can help me with this I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.
