Ipad 3 question

I still have the original ipad but am thinking of upgrading. How far away do you see Apple announcing a ipad 4? I am wondering if I should just stay patient and wait for a new one or should I go ahead and order the ipad 3?

Speculation about what Apple may or may not do is not encouraged...

Yes - there will be an accessory available for SD cards.
    3) Can it read pdf files?
Yes since it runs iPhone OS
    4) no flash? can the mac's safari do flash?
No flash in iPhone OS Safari, but Mac OS X Safari has it.
    5) Can you develop apps on the iPad?
Unknown, but there is an iPad SDK for use on a Mac.
    6) anyone know when you can actually see one in the store? not buy but see one.
Near the end of March for WiFi versions and end of April for 3G versions in U.S.
    June timeframe internationally.

No it's not stealing. They have an allowance that you can share with so many computers/devices. You'll have to authorize her computer to play/use anything bought on your acct. You can do this under the Store menu at top when iTunes is open on her computer.
As far as getting it all on her computer....I think but I am not sure (because I don't use the feature) but I think if you turn on Home Sharing in iTunes it may copy the music to her computer. I don't know maybe it just streams it. If nothing else you can sign into your acct on her computer and download it all to her computer from the cloud. Not sure exactly how to go about that, I haven't had to do that yet. I wonder if once you authorize her computer and then set it up for automatic downloads (under Edit>Preferences>Store) if everything would download. Sorry I'm not much help on that.

  • HT1347 I have movies on my Hard drive that I would like to add to my iPad how do I get them into iTunes to download to my iPad question mark

I have movies on my Hard drive that I would like to add to my iPad how do I get them into iTunes to download to my iPad?

READ the article from which the question was posted.  Then follow the instructions for importing content to iTunes on the computer.
Once the content is in iTunes, connect the device, select the content desired to sync, and sync.

  • Air Display and iPad Question

I am thinking about using Air Display on my iPad and on my iMac so my iPad can serve as a second monitor.
From reading as much as I can find about Air Display, I see that the 2 systems communicate via WiFi.
My question - I am assuming both systems communicate from one IP address to the other. If both IP addresses are on the same LAN, does the communications remain within the local network or do they go out on the internet and back in? My internet connection is via satellite and has a finite download limit per month. If the communications goes out on the internet and then back into my LAN, I would have a capacity problem.
At $30 for both software pieces, I would rather have this question answered before I spend the money and do my own testing. Surely someone has made this test before.
    Thanks
    Adrian

    Hi Adrian.
First, for faster responses, please contact our support team at http://avatron.com/support. I just happened onto your message here because it showed up in a Google Alert, but I often ignore those because they're mostly breaking news about Royal Air Force air displays in the UK and whatnot.
    Anyway, two things:
First, Air Display won't cost you $30. You only pay for the client (the part that runs on the machine that will be used as a monitor). The host software is absolutely free. So, if you are using an iPad as a monitor for your iMac, you would only pay $9.99 for the iOS client. If you are using a Mac as a monitor for another Mac, you would buy the Mac app for $19.99 in the Mac App Store (or from our web site).
Second, Air Display does not route your data through any device outside your local network. You can even run on an ad hoc network between your iMac and your iPad. No Internet connection is necessary. The only communication to the Internet is for administrative tasks, like when the host software periodically checks our server to see if a software update is available.
    Cheers!

  • New MacBook Air and iPad question

    Hi everyone,
I purchased a Macbook in 2009 and have today upgraded to a brand new MacBook Air.  My question is about my iPhone and iPad and keeping these up to date.  Both are running iOS 5 so I do all updates by wifi which is easy and fast.  Although prior to iOS 5 of course I had to connect these to my Macbook and update that way.  At this stage I am still setting up my new Air and just wonder if there is even any need to connect either device to it?  I have the music that I want on both devices and new used my Macbook to download any apps, I always do them directly on each device.  So do I need to set up either on there?  At this stage I think no but I am just wondering if I am forgetting something.
    Many thanks

    What 'app'?
If you owned them before they are free.

  • Keynotes for iPad Question

I have never used Powerpoint nor Keynotes.
But I bought the iPad for product demonstrations.
I created the slides in Photoshop, saved them as .png.
At the end, I have a mpg4 video playing.
Now I saw there is Keynotes for iPad.
My question: will it play the video as well? I am planning to add several videos at the end.
If yes, how will I switch from 1 video to the next? I read, you have to use your finger to change the page, can it be also automated? Like a slide show?
Or is there a better software which will work better for my purpose?
    Thank you.
    Dorian

Probably have better luck getting an answer in the iWorks for iPad forum.

  • Original Ipad Question

I just bought a brand new original IPAD (Ipad 1). Question when I try to get it to sync I get an error message reading pairing record is missing. Does anyone know how I can resolve this?

Restart the iPad as well and reboot the computer again. See if it works after you restart the iPad.

  • 2.5 basic iPad questions

If I had an iPad I could answer these questions for myself, but I don't, so:
If an iPad has been synched with a computer's iTune account, what can and cannot be done with that iPad on a different computer (different iTune account)?
When an iPad is connected to a Mac, does it mount in the normal/usual sense (visible on/in the Desktop/Finder, Disk Utility, and/or System Profiler)? What about when the iPad is synching (and should NOT be detached from the computer)?
    TIA.

As I am not near my home Mac computer I can't perform the experiment that you request. However, thanks to King Penguin, you have those results now anyway.
Everything that I read in KP's post sounds correct to me. The iPad will not appear on the desktop, in the finder, or disk utility - it does not mount like say a hard drive or one of the older model iPods that you could use as a hard drive will mount.
The iPod is visible in iPhoto under these (obvious) conditions. The iPad must be connected to the Mac and iPhoto must be running on the Mac. In the same way that an iPad will be visible in iTunes when connected, you an click on the iPad's name on the left hand side of iPhoto under the Devices heading. Any photos that are saved to the device in the Camera Roll (iPad 2) or the Saved album (iPad 1) can then be imported into iPhoto. Photos that were synced to the iPad via iTunes - even if from the iPhoto application - can only be deleted or added back in again via the sync process.
If not mistaken, the iPad will also appear in Image Capture (in the Mac's utltiies folder). You can see the iPad there the same way you can see it in iPhoto as described above. Maybe KP can answer this - I think Aperture will recognize the iPad but I do not have that on my Mac so I'm not sure.
The iPad user guide is a great resource to help you get started out, but there are only so many things it can cover. IMHO - the purpose of the guide is to get people started using the device and while it does contain everything that you need to get you up and running - and then some - the kinds of questions that you posted would be too far above the average iPad's user's needs, so those topics are are not covered and are better served being discussed in a forum or by doing a Google search.

    Hi everyone,
I'm the Support Manager for QO and I'd like to personally apologize for any inconvenience you all may have experienced. I can tell you that our devlopers and engineers are aware of what's going on and they are working around the clock to deliver a fix.
Also, I want to expand on the above poster's instructions: Re-installing or removing Quickoffice will permanently delete any locally saved data. Data stored on a cloud-based service, such as Google Drive or Dropbox, should not be affected.
Lastly, I'd like to encourage all of you to please visit the Quickoffice Community for updates regarding this issue.

  • My ipad questions....potential purchase

    Hi all!
I am considering retiring my ibook g4 in favor of an ipad. I have a new imac as my main computer, and also have a first gen g5 single 1.8 processor.
I only use my ibook for email and internet. I'm thinking an ipad would replace the ibook.
My concern is i see many people are having wifi issues. I won't be using G3 at all, and i do have an airport extreme network setup that works fine.
Will the ipad give me the same wifi performance with internet and email as i get now with my ibook?
Also, how important is the file storage capacity? Do apps take up alot of space? Can you store apps to an sd card or other storage media?
Sorry for all the questions but my wife wants to get me an ipad for Christmas and i want to make sure that it is a practical purchase and fills my needs.
    Thanks!
    Len

In terms of your mac there are minimum OS requirements - version 10.5.8 or later.
You cannot store apps on any other media - they can only be loaded via iTunes (either via your Mac or directly onto the iPad). In terms of the amount of space that they use, generally not much e.g. the Pages word processing app from Apple is listed as 51.3M on the App Store, and Numbers spreadsheet app (also from Apple) as 69.9M. I've got some which are less than 1 meg. You could have a browse of the Apps on iTunes and see which you might be interested in getting; as far as I am aware they all list their size. You can always remove them from your iPad and leave them on your Mac iTunes library until you need them again.
People have been, and still are, having problems with wi-fi, and I don't know what proportion of the total users (though probably small), but I havn't had a single problem with my iPad at all, either before or after upgrading to 4.2. I also havn't noticed it being slower than my laptop.

  • Refurb iPad questions

My family just bought a refurbished 3rd-generation iPad from a third-party web store. The refurb iPad appears to be the same as this model on the Apple Store, but with a deeper discount price tag: http://store.apple.com/us/product/FD330LL/A/refurbished-ipad-with-wi-fi-64gb-whi te-3rd-generation
    I have a few questions:
1: will this model be able to update to iOS 8?
2: none of us have experience with iOS devices. Is there a database of iPad software that will help us seek out and identify an app that can be used for timing outdoor sled dog races? Some races are two-day races, with the total times added for both days to get the "final" total time.
3: Can an iPad like this be used to connect wirelessly to an HDTV or a digital projector to deliver presentations? Will this iPad be able to do this right out of the box, or do we need to add something?
4: In a discussion thread on a Tom Bihn forum, an Apple education sales employee posted a video demonstrating his use of a backpack as a mobile office.
    http://www.tombihn.com/forums/photos-videos-reviews/6905-my-first-whats-my-bag-v ideo-synapse-25-a.html
His video showed how he carries all that he needs to use an iPad Mini, AppleTV and other accessories to make digital business presentations wirelessly while pitching to education clients on-the-road. Will this refurb iPad be able to do the same thing, using the same accessories he shows in his video? The reason I ask is that my family has a regional business and they may want to take the iPad to make presentations while on the road. I was wondering if a similar setup would work for them.
5: This refurb is sold through a third-party web-store. Does that mean there will be no warranty?
6: What accessories will my family need to recharge this iPad while on the road, using a car's ciggie lighter / power port? Are there any really good quality accessories that they can seek out for this?

You didn't say which model of iPad you got - is it the WiFi only or the WiFi+3G model?
iPad 3rd Gen came out in March 2012 and was discontinued in Nov 2012 when the 4th Gen model came out -- see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPad for the iPad history of different models.
iPad 3 will work with iOS 6, 7 or 8 - but before updating to a specific iOS version you might want to make sure of the apps you wanna use and which iOS version they require. Once you upgrade you can't go backwards, so keep that in mind.
As far as a timing app for sled dog races a quick check on the App Store didn't show anything related to sled dog racing timing, but found something called "Race Beacon" from Vega Discoveries - see https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/race-beacon/id866715826?ls=1&mt=8 for more info. I would think any generic timing app would work that can do multi-day events.
Keep in mind that only 3G iPad models (not the WiFi only ones) have GPS capability, but it uses a lot of battery according to the Race Beacon app -- "Please be aware: Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life."
Using the iPad to put up presentations to projectors is doable but with a MacBook driving the projector and the iPad streaming to the MacBook using something like AirPlay to software like AirParrot or Reflector type apps. You can also send your iPad screen images to an AppleTV but have not personally done this (I have used iPad 3 with Reflector and AirParrot). See this for lots of ideas on using iPad video streamed to other devices:
    http://learninginhand.com/blog/5-ways-to-show-your-ipad-on-a-projector-screen.ht ml
As for the warranty, call Apple and give them the serial number of the iPad to check if it's still under any AppleCare extended warranty and if it is you should be able to take advantage of it -- see https://www.apple.com/support/products/faqs.html for details.
Another couple of apps I really like are AudioNote by Luminant Software (see http://luminantsoftware.com/iphone/audionote.html for more info) - it does both audio and regular notes and keeps track of written notes and when they happened during the audio recording. Very handy and easy to keep track of when things occurred during the audio recording session and they make an OS X version as well. My favorite app of all time for the iPad is called "Elements" - amazing graphics about all the periodic table elements - really shows the graphics power of the iPad and has all kinds of stories about how elements got named, what they are used for and all kinds of trivia about the things that make up this universe -- see http://apps.theodoregray.com/the-elements/?tpnav=1 for more info.
Have fun with your new iPad and good luck in the dog sled races.

  • TS4062 ITunes on iPad question

Using iTunes on my iPad, I selected a number of podcasts to download.  They are marked as downloaded.  Now how/where do I find them so I can listen to them?

Purchases are owned by exactly one Apple ID.  So I will answer your complicated question by explaining how to set up your computer so it matches the Apple ID on your new iPad.  Understand that anything with a different Apple ID does not belong to you, and will not work correctly by simply doing the following.
Open iTunes on your computer.  Click on the Store.  Then click "Accounts" in the middle right and sign in using your new Apple ID and password.

  • HT5858 Assistance needed with iPad question.

I know there are certain businesses that don't allow you to save their passwords on the iPad but this question refers to the ones that I have always saved in the past........Although I have always saved them in the past, for some reason I am no longer able to 'save' certain passwords etc. Does anyone know how I can change this so that I am not wasting time re entering information? Is it just something simple that I have to change under the 'settings'?   Thanks!

    Disable Private Browsing in Safari.
