IPad 3 screen is doing its own thing...

Help!  My iPad 3 is opening and closing apps on its own, will not let me do a hard reset, tried rebooting, I am at a loss.  When it started doing it this morning, I tried updating it, rebooting it, resetting it, it does it, then it stops, then it starts again.  Help!!!

You should backup your iPad and make an appointment at a Genius Bar.  The problem you are experiencing is most likely a hardware problem (screen/digitizer)

    to reset the smc:
    1) turn off your mac
    2) plug it to the power
    3) press: left shift + control + option and then at the same time the power button
    4) you will see the light on your mac power to change from orange to green
    5) dont release any of the 4 keys (left shift + control + option + power)
    6)  Then after 10 secs release them all at the same time
    7) Turn on your mac

Try a restore. If that does not work, you probably have a hardware issue.

First thing to try is to reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.
If that doesn't help I and the problem persists I would have a technician take a look at your iPad. Make an appointment at an Apple Store to have your device examined by a technician. Or contact Apple Support.

  • IPad frequently shuts off on its own

I was near the end of writing a long email today and the ipad suddenly shut off on its own.  It has been happening for the past 3 days with other programs also, with the battery far from depleted.  Is there a solution to this problem?  Is there a way to save draft without closing the email?  Possible to trade in for a new iPad with this reason?

When you type an email You can save a draft by tapping the word cancel in the upper left corner and an option to save draft or delete will pop up. Select save draft.
I assume that you mean that the apps are crashing and that the iPad is not shutting off on it's own. If you use an app and it crashes it takes you back to the home screen. If the iPad totally shuts down, the screen turns black and you cannot wake it by tapping the sleep button or the home button.
If apps are closing or crashing, try to download any free app - restart the iPad and see if that helps keep the other apps from crashing or closing. If it works you can delete the app if you don't want it.
Try closing apps. Double tap the home button to bring up the task bar. All of your recent apps will be across the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until they all wiggle. Then tap the minus signs in the left corner of all of the icons in order to close the apps. Tap the home button twice. Then restart the iPad.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up, hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears.
You could try resetting the iPad as well. Press and hold down on the sleep button and the home button at the same time for about 10-15 seconds, until the Apple logo appears - ignore the red slider.
If the iPad is totally shutting off - it could be time to restore the device.

  • Is it normal for an ipad to shut down on its own?

the problem is my ipad suddenly shut down on its own having 70% of the battery charged and it would´t turn on again. i went for help to the mac service on my city, im from mexico, and the guy there just turned it on using the home button and the power button, and said it was normal, it happend to all ipads, iphones and ipods, i did not consider it normal, i own 2 ipads, 1 ipod touch, 1 iphone 3gs, 1 iphone 4, and i know other iphone users that have never had this problem, but the guy just said its normal. so i want to know of he told me the truth.

It happens occasionally- it's happened to me once (so far) and if you search these forums you will probably find a couple of threads a day from people who have had the same thing.

  • My iPad mini is typing on its own, changing pages etc. what is wrong???

My iPad mini is typing on its own.  The touchscreen seems to have taken on a life of it's own!  Can anyone help me fix this?

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430

  • IPad 2 crashes, restarts on its own

After restoring my back up though iTunes on a Win 7 machine, the iPad 2 consistently crashes, resets on its own, reverts to home screen when starting an app, and generally does things the iPad never did. After one of times I tried to reset (off switch & home button), it locked up with the silver apple, the timing circle and two purple lines (image posted on ipadforum) and remained that way until I pressed/ held the off switch & home button again. Anyone else with these issues?

    Try a System Reset:
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.
A System Reset does not remove any apps, music, movies, etc. nor does it cause any settings to revert back to default.
Also, you might wish to download the iPad-2 User Guide. Pay special attention to page 162. Note that this Guide also applies to the iPad-1 with IOS 4.3 except for those functions that are not supported by the hardware.
    http://support.apple.com/manuals/#ipad
Finally, a less thorough version of the Guide is included as a Safari bookmark and a more thorough version of the Guide can be downloaded at no charge via iBooks.

  • IPad 2 plays music on its own. When I shift my backpack, ipod ap launches

A few minutes after I put my iPad 2 in my backpack, or if I shift my backpack, my ipod ap launches on its own and music starts to play. Sometimes, I can just touch the bag and the ap launches, this, despite the fact that I have the magnetic cover on and closed. I usually then put my iPad 2, with its magnetic cover closed, in the Hand Candy padded case I bought for greater protection because I have to put my pack, and the iPad 2 separately, through a security screening to enter my place of work. The backpack has plenty of room and, in fact, is nearly empty. I put the ipod in the padded section, again, for protection.
Still, often when I shift the pack or bend down with the pack on or pick up the pack from a chair, the iPad 2 launches the ipod ap and the music start to play.
I've tried touching and lightly pressing the iPad 2 in various places on the outside to see if I could replicate the auto music shut on, but that doesn't work. It won't come on by just touching the outside of the case with the magnetic cover closed.
It only happens when I put the padded case into my backpack and shift the pack to my back, or when I take off  the pack to put it on my desk or pick it up. That's when the music starts.
I don't get it. It's not like my pack is stuffed or that that I have the iPad pressed against anything.
    Is it haunted?
    Anyone else have this experience?
    Does anyone have a solution?
    Help!

There are small magnets in the mic, but you are correct they shouldn't do it.
    Try separating them anyway.
If you haven't already, try restarting the iPad: To restart (reboot) Press and Hold the Home and Power buttons until the Apple Logo appears, about 10 seconds.
Also, you can turn the iPad off, instead of just putting it to sleep. Not a permanent fix, but a workaround until it's figured out.
Anyone else have a tip for RD ??

  • My ipad 2 is working on its own, it's going crazy! It's zooming in and out, typing stuff, opening apps...help?!

I read that this happened to a handful of people on here and most of them just went to apple and apple switched it without a problem. I was just wondering if that would be the same for me since I don't have any warranty and I fixed my ipad before after the screen broke. But now it just went crazy on its own...would I be charged anything?
