Ipad 3 shuts off, freezes and reboots

My ipad has begun randomly shutting off, and when it comes back on it tries to reboot the whole system. Then it freezes at other times. I can't depend on it since I never know when this will happen. I've tried everything apple says to do and wiped it clean and rebooted the thing myself and still it does the same thing. Anyone know what I can do besides sell it for parts?

You tried recovery mode and that didn't help?

If you restored using recovery mode, there really isn't anything else that you can do on your own. If you make an appointment at an Apple Store, they might be able to restore the device and getting it working properly again. From what I've read a couple of times here in the forum, they possess more sophisticated means of restoring than we have.

  • I am having trouble with computer freezing, spinning wheel.  The only way to get out is to manually shut off computer and reboot.

The issue usually occurs when computer goes into the screensaver mode.  When this happens, none of the keys are opperable and the round wheel/ball just continues to spin.  The only resolve is to manually shut down the computer witht the button on back of the monitor/hard drive.  Not sure if this is bad for the computer to shut down this way or not.

I starting having this "colored spinning wheel" problem too! It started about two weeks ago and like the others, every time I go into my Yahoo mail, I get the spinning-wheel and the only way out is to "X" out of the site. Sometimes I can make it through a few notes, other times the problem starts as soon as I click on the first note. I searched google a few days ago and saw a response to this problem that said I should "uncheck" the 3 items in the "Auto-fill" preferences in Safari (Safari-Preferences-Autofill) and that should help. It did not. I also went in and deleted cookies, cache and history, but that didn't work either, or if it did, it only took a few clicks to experience the problem again. One of the times I went in to delete cookies I noticed over 100 cookies and other website data stored and I had only been on perhaps 2 or 3 sites (CNN, google and yahoo and perhaps Apple), and I never click on the adds. Don't know if there's any significance to this but I thought that was an awful lot of "cookies" for just a few clicks after previously deleting cookies. Also, I believe I have the latest version of Yahoo mail. I actually have 2 Yahoo accounts and the spinning wheel is a problem with both of them, same for my wife. Any help would be very much appreciated.

  • Ipad 4 Retina display keeps freezing and reboots

the past week my Ipad 4 has been having problems with freezing and rebooting. I deleted a game app which I thought was the problem and now when I use my email app it will start to freeze then reboot. Of course my warranty has just run out when this happened. I have tried the stadard things up to resetting but not a complete restore yet. Sometimes when rebooting it will hang and I get pixilation etc. This is very frustrating any ideas? IOS 7.04. 32GB.

Did the standard things include Settings>General>Reset>Reset all settings? You could have a corrupt setting that is causing problems. You won't lose any data, but it takes some time to enter all of the device settings again and you will have to do that if you reset all settings.
If that doesn't work, then you probably should backup, restore to factory settings and them restore from the backup. If that fails, then the next step is to restore as new and not from the backup, them rebuild the iPad by adding your apps and content methodically looking for any signs of further problems.

  • My iPad shut off for some reason.  The battery was charged.  I couldn't get it to turn back on until I pressed the on button and home at the same time. Why did that happen?

I had trouble upgrading my iPad2 toiOS 5.1.I have had it for about 1 year.  I had never upgraded it.  I tried a few times but I kept getting a message that I would loose everything on my iPad if I did.  I bit the bullet andfigured that I would restore it from the back up on my laptop.  Some of the backup files were corrupted.  I was unable to retore my exchange email or my notes from the noted app.
Today, my iPad shut off for no reason and I couldn't get it to turn on again, even though the battery was 70% charged.  I had to press the on button and home button to get it to come back on.

I'm not sure what problem you are experiancing but it would be well worth contacting apple.
If you have had it for less than one year it should be covered under warrenty

    Hello jenremter,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
If you are trying to restore your iPad, I would suggest placing your iPad in recovery mode manually and attempting the restore. Please follow the instructions in the attached article to complete this process.

  • My iPod Touch is freezing and rebooting itself.

    Hi.
    Here's the story:
My iPod was recently working yesterday. I left it on the wall charger for a while, and later I come back to find my iPod frozen, out of nowhere. For another while, it freezes and starts to reboot itself. I done all I can. I watched videos on how to unfreeze it and etc, and I tried restoring it, and doing about everything I can to recover this iPod, it doesn't work. So I turned it off, and let it settle overnight. This morning, I turn it on, and it restored, everything was working fine, until when I go to my Messages app, it freezes once again, and now it is doing the same thing, but this time it repeats to the home screen, freezes, and reboots again. I tried calling for support and they said my warranty is expired.
I own an iPod Touch 4G, 8GB, for about 6 months.
To be specific: It always goes to the Apple logo and then the loading circle then shuts off, then does it again. Before this problem about a day before this happened, I accidentally put a little water on it and wiped it off while I was working on chores. (Sorry, I often have it next to me a lot.) Plus, I did have a lot of data on it but it didn't seem much of a problem.
Please, if anyone can help, tell me what is the reason behind this problem, and at least if you can try to solve this for me. I will try going to a local Apple store later on if this problem keeps going. But for right now, I need this help. Thank you all.
    Bye.

  • Why does playing solitaire on ipad shut off sounds

why does playing solitaire on ipad shut off sounds

You can try a couple of things You may have too much going on in the background now.
Double tap the home button to bring up your recent apps. Hold down on one of the app icons until they all wiggle. Then tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the apps and to close them. Close all of your apps. Tap the home button to stop the wiggling then tap the screen. Now reboot - hold down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. Hold down on the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and then let go of the button. Try the iPod app and then start playing Pocket Frogs and see what happens.
You can also try a reset by holding down on the sleep button and home button at the same time for about 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons and let the iPad restart. Try the iPod app and the game again.

  • My iPad shut off what do I do?

My iPad shut off and will not turn back on.  I stopped using it with 90% battery left.  I haven't dropped it, and it has not been damaged by water.  It won't work on or off the charger; it actually doesn't charge at all... It was only a year old, and it's like it completely died... PLEASE HELP

Try doing a reset, Hold both the Home button and the Sleep button down at the same time, wait for the apple log to appear on the screen.
The slide to power off screen will appear before the Apple logo appears, ignore this, continue to hold the buttons down until the apple logo appears.
This will restart your iPad and will not harm the content on it.

  • HT6058 I have updated my I pad dut I'm still having problems my iPad seems to freeze and when I go to put in my pin it take a few seconds before the numbers go in and my games stop and start and stop and start for a bit before they run properly

I have updated my I pad dut I'm still having problems my iPad seems to freeze and when I go to put in my pin it take a few seconds before the numbers go in and my games stop and start and stop and start for a bit before they run properly

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased.

  • HT1414 My IPad shuts off while in use what can I do to fix this annoying problem.

Has anyone else had this problem where your IPad shuts off intermittently while in the middle of doing something.

"Shuts off" means that the iPad completely powers off - at least that's what it means to me the way that you state it. Is that actually what happens - the iPad shuts off and you have to restart the device? If that is what is happening, you may have a pretty serious hardware problem.

  • My iPad shuts off when browsing the web

When browsing many web sites my iPad shuts off -help

Clear Safari. Close all apps on the iPad. Then reset your iPad.
Go to Settings>Safari>Clear Cookies and Data.
In order to close apps in iOS 5 or iOS 6, first tap the home button once. Then tap the home button twice and the recents tray will appear at the bottom of the screen. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus (-) sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button twice.
Closing apps in iOS 7 works like this. Drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
