IPad 3 voice dictation manual?

Does anyone know if there is a guidebook or manual or even a web site with hints on the commands that one can use with voice dictation on the new iPad 3?
It is great - and since I have used Dragon Dictate on my Mac before, I tried things like saying "open parenthesis" and it puts in the "(" sign.  I can also get quotes or hyphens, commas and exclamation marks by saying them.  BUT there could be lots more hidden stuff - and the 144 page iPad iOS 5.1 manual doesn't say much about dictation at all…
If anyone knows of anything - please reply.
Thanks!

Steve Schulte

I don't know if a manual exists, but there are lots of websites with tips on how to use voice dictation on the iPad.

  • HT5176 iPad 2 and voice dictation app

I am seeing an app called voice dictation that says it is compatible with iPad.  I have an iPad 2.
Can I use headphones with a mic or just a mic into the headphone jack to be able
To use dictation for this app, or will this only work with iPad 3.

As the HT5176 article you attached indicates, Dictation is part of Siri.
Siri is not supported on the iPad 2.

  • I can'i find voice dictation on new ipad?

MY new Ipad does not have voice dictation icon?

Assuming that it's the new version of the iPad, then if you didn't enable it during setup then you should be able to do so via Settings > General > Keyboard > Dictation and it should show at the bottom left of the keyboard

  • Voice dictation app not working

I downloaded the voice dictation app in my IPad 2 last week.  It was working fine for a few days but yesterday when I tried to use it I got a message saying that 'I was not authroized to use this app anymore, and that I should contact my service provider'
When I went to the app store to look for that app, that particular app was no longer in the app store.  Instead there was a different voice dictation app which looked similar to the old app but was named differently.
Since the old voice dictation app didn't work anymore I decided to download the new one and get rid of the old one.......so far so good
I don't care about wasting 99 cents on this app, but I was wondering if anyone knew why the old voice dication app that i downloaded first stoped working so quickly and vanished from the app store?
    Not complaining, just curious.
    Thanks.

That was the best voice dictation app, I used it daily for work. It was more accurate than Dragon, I spend way too much time correcting Dragon. Not so worried abou the ¢99, but I am complaing. Where dod the app go?

  • Is voice dictation availble for iphone 4

Is voice dictation available for iphone 4 with the little microphone next to the spacebar on the keyboard?

Nope, sorry. For some reason Apple decided only to include Siri and voice dictation on the iPhone 4S. (and the iPad 3 with iOS 6)

  • HT5176 locked out without internet connection and activated voice dictation

    Hi
I guess I accidentally activated the voice dictation and now my iPad is locked without internet connection. Now I am not able to keyin my PIN and not able to de-activate the voice dictation. Can somebody help me with this?
    Thanks
    Nitin

Do you mean the VoiceOver accessibility function or Siri ? If VoiceOver, then how did you turn it on ? If via Settings > General > Accessibility then you should be able to turn it off directly on the iPad (you need to use a tap-to-select and then double-tap to activate/type process and 3 fingered scrolling) to go into Settings > General > Accessibility > VoiceOver 'off', or you can do it by connecting to your computer's iTunes : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4064
If you don't know how it cam on then try triple-clicking the home button and see if that turns it off, and if it does you can then change what a triple-click does via Settings > General > Accessibility > Triple-Click Home.

  • Does voice dictation work while on calls?

    Hi,
Does voice dictation work while on calls? I notice that the microphone which is in the keyboard is disabled while on call.
    Thank you

Whatsapp is for the iPhone only and won't work on any model of iPad. Viber says that the iPad is "partially supported" but I can't find what that means. If it works, though, it should work via WiFi, though I haven't used Viber so I can't say of my own experience, only what Viber says on their web site.
    Regards.

  • What's wrong with Siri and Voice dictation?

Neither Siri or voice dictation is working today.
Any idea what the problem is?

I was having problems with dictation for days - the 3 dots would just vibrate a second, and then disappear.  It wasn't an internet connection issue at all.
Finally found a (bizarre) solution on another site - use Siri to dicate a text (e.g., activate Siri; tell it to send a text to ________; then she'll ask you for the content and you say what you want), then tell her to send it.
Voila, now if you go to use dictation, it works again.  (At least, that bizarre method worked for me -- I tried dictating an email and it didn't work; used Siri to send a text; then went back and tried dictation again and it was working perfectly.)

  • Voice dictation,Dragon Express and Mountain Lion

Are there any other users out there who want decent voice dictation software that doesn't depend upon being online all the time and speaking to the clouds?
Not everyone can be online all the time:  moreover there's an old saying that 'walls have ears' - well there's a new saying that 'clouds have ears' . The new dictation facility that comes with Mountain Lion is quite a promising catch-up application, but it only works if you are online to the clouds. But the cheap price of the ML upgrade comes at a hidden cost.  I recently bought Dragon Express for £39 from the App Store to use for voice dictation and have found out that it does not work under Mountain Lion.
I used to use IBM Via Voice for the Mac but that did not survive the change from System 9 to System X.  Will Nuance  get fed up with Apple's policy towards 3rd party developers and will they let their Dragon voice software for the Mac go the same way?
    Teya

Intriguing, someone left it on "works fine" on http://roaringapps.com/app:402 for both Lion and Mountain Lion on version 7.2.3, yet when you look at the versions 7, 8, and 9 of Logic Express under the Versions section of the website, nobody was able to get it to work.  Given that is the case, I edited the status to "some problems."   I'll ask your post get redirected to the Logic Express forum to get the facts.

  • Apparently, my company email that I have on my ipad prevents me from manually backing up to icloud. Does this mean that icloud is being blocked entirely from my ipad?

If my company email on my ipad blocks me from manually backing up to icloud, does this mean that icloud is being blocked from my ipad completely?

I'm not sure if they can completely block iCloud if you have your own Apple ID. I assume that they just don't want their data backed up to Apple's cloud.
But the more important point in this whole discussion is would the company be honked off at you for doing something on the iPad that they do not approve of.

  • How to edit using voice dictation?

I have iPhone five. I have downloaded iOS eight. Is there a way to edit while using voice dictation on notes?

The linking between Audition and Premiere only works with Premiere Pro, not, unfortunately, with Premiere Elements. So stick with what you know, do your video edit first and then export a video with audio in a format suitable to import into Audition. Then you can work on the audio against the picture and use the original audio track as a guide for checking the sync against. So save it safely and don't overwrite it what ever you do.
Thanks, that's good to know, but can I ask you another question?  Here's what I've done: recorded sixty minutes of me playing and singing in both audio and video.  It's going to be edited down to about 40 minutes of material, so there will be cuts and joins.  I'm going to overdub a bunch of parts over the audio tracks - bass, keyboard, percussion, backing vocals - the whole nine yards.  Should I finish the audio portion of the project first, before I get into editing the video?  Or can I proceed with the video edits like you suggest and then bring them into Audition to synch up with the overdubbed parts?  I have no idea how to go about any of this except for the audio bits - Audition 6 is lovely.
jplew - I apologise for detouring this thread.  I hope both topics can co-exist happily in the same thread.

  • Voice dictation is buggy

Ever since the last OS update, voice dictation has become buggy. I say a word or words, it shows up briefly, and then disappears. I tried turning off and back on dictation, turning off and back on Siri (to remove voice data from the Apple servers and start fresh), and I also rebooted my iPhone. Nothing works. Is there a way to fix the buggy dictation?

After restart, the next standard troubleshooting steps are reset, restore from back up, restore as new.
