Ipad 3 with Sim Card. Two Different Countries.

Hi, I'm planning on buying an ipad 3 with a sim card. I'm from the uk, but am living in germany for a year..If I purchase the ipad in england but buy a sim from germany will this still work? And when I come back to england will I be able to change it for an english sim without any trouble?

I had problems with a nanosim card in an iPad Mini. Card worked in a phone, but sometimes didn't in the iPad. The cause was a slight bend in one of the contacts of the nanosim card. I replaced the card and all was fine after.
What happens when it drops of? Cellular signal is zero?

You cannot use SMS with any iPad.
The iPad is not a telephone.
You can use iMessage to communicate to other Apple devices.  iMessage is not SMS, and works best over WiFi.

    Hello, no ice.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
As long as you purchase the GSM model and acquire a Nano-SIM card, you should be able to use your iPad abroad.  Here is some information about this process that you may find helpful.

Yes. If you buy a WiFi+3G ipad (GSM or AT&T) in the US you can use microSIMs from other countries also. There are very few iPads (usually purchased as part of a subsidized package with a service provider) that are locked.

  • I know I can switch two iphone 4s's with SIM cards, but can I flip a CDMA iphone 4 (no SIM) with a 4s (has SIM)?

My wife wants to use my daughter's 4s phone instead of her CDMA iphone 4 with no SIM.  Does verizon need to do the switch since I can't just switch SIM cards and restore from backup?

Unless the 4S was sold for Verizon, the CDMA module is disabled. Regardless, Verizon will not activate devices on their network that were not specifically sold for their network.

  • Using iPhone in two different countries

As a Mac user I am keen to buy an iPhone but haven't done so because of Apple's strange marketing strategy. I travel regularly between two European countries and I have a SIM card for each country--primarily to take advantage of local data costs rather than telephone costs. I always buy an unlocked phone and simply swop the SIM cards at the airport. Apple appear not to have thought about this possibility and their insistence on not allowing official unlocking will be a big negative for many Europeans, particularly businessmen who travel a lot. I simply cannot justify buying a phone that can be used in only one country at local call rates. I wouldn't particularly care what an unlocked phone cost--within reason, of course--provided I could decide on what contract and where. I understand there are already anti-competitive issues in Germany and also in France where I have read that it is illegal to sell locked phones.
Does anyone know what would happen if I bought an unlocked iPhone in France or Germany and then used it with SIM cards from Britain and Greece? Would Apple still clobber me with the system upgrades or would I have special privileges as a German/French customer?
In general terms, the whole marketing strategy looks to me like a restrictive practice and I believe most European countries will eventually force a change. Maybe that will coincide with the introduction of 3G capabilities (another essential for Europe, in my opinion).
All this has probably been said before, but I thought I'd add my penn'orth in case anyone from Apple is monitoring the forum.

One comment on the SIM card swapping, I read on one of the discussions that the tray holding the SIM card is not that robust. There may be a risk with a lot of SIM card swaps that the tray breaks and then you'd be at the mercy of Apple re whether you voided their support agreement or not.

  • In new iPad 4g, when sim card is not inserted, I can not find the enable 4g tap in the setting-cellular data tap, can some one please tell me if this is normal and if so, then when it appears, thanks

If the SIM is out of your phone, find my phone needs a data connection, so could use wifi - IF in range of a wifi and one that it can join (ie. a known network or one that is wholly open so no login required).  Your phone could also simple be turned off, so not findable, or it may have been restored (plugged into iTunes and restored as new) again, making it permanently unfindable.  Honestly, for someone stealing an iPhone, this is likely the first thing they do - restore as new and it is theirs forever.
Find my iPhone is tied to the users iCloud account - the find function is part of the iCloud account's services and it communicates with the iCloud servers over a data connection - either wifi or 3G.
Have you set up your iCloud account on your replacement phone, and is it working properly on that phone?

  • Which apple iPad Air should I purchase to work with SIM card that will only be needed about 4 weeks per year?

Purchased apple ipad  air with wifi only want to switch to one that has SIM card.  Only needed for travel about 4weeks per year...understand you can swiitch SIM cards.  Which should I start with?

The biggest issue between the 1 and 2 is that all devices eventually age out of software updates. For example the iPad 1 maxed out at iOS 5.1.1, only the Touch 5 was eligible for iOS8 and I think only iPhones 4+ could get iOS8. So eventually, if you get a 1 you may face maxing out of the iOS updates before the two.
That said, even if your device maxes out it'll still run just fine as it is. You may just face issues with future apps....so say my iPad maxes out in December. In February a really cool game comes out and I want it... but wait, it's for the newer iOS and won't install on mine. If you're aware of the issue and accept the issue, there's no reason you can have a fully functioning older device.
And if the 1 is more stable than the 2, even better. I've been very lucky with my iPad 2 to have it be a very stable and dependable model while later models do seem to have had issues.

  • Ipad won't connect to itunes with sim card inserted

    I have an interesting situation.
I bought a second hand Ipad 32GB WiFi + 3G from a user who was upgrading to the iPad 2. They kept their SIM card and we purchased a replacement SIM card from AT&T's website. (The original SIM card was also from AT&T)
Without the SIM card inserted, the Ipad works perfectly, the same as my other WiFi-only Ipads do. When I insert the SIM card, however, even with the 3G service turned off in settings, Windows & ITunes will no longer even recognize that the Ipad is connected (that's to say powering off the Ipad, installing SIM card, powering Ipad back up and then connecting it w/ the same known working USB Sync cable).
Anyone have any ideas? Right now I'm not even worried about using the 3G, I'd just like to have the SIM card installed so that the 3G can be setup & activated if / when it's needed and we're out and about. Besides not being recognized by the PC, the Ipad w/ SIM card installed works perfectly well on it's own, but (obviously) I'm unable to sync anything to / from it, or back it up in iTunes.
Hoping someone can point me in the direction of something obvious that I've missed.

The only idea/suggestion I have is that you do a reset of your iPad, with the SIM card installed: Press Home + sleep/wake buttons simultaneously until the white Apple logo appears.
