IPad 3rd gen no longer charges unless shut off and not recognized by iTunes

iPad 3rd gen no longer charges unless shut off and not recognized by iTunes.  Done 2 resets, used original charger and cable and bought brand new charger and cable from Apple store.  Nothing works.  This started yapping after the iOS 7.1.1 update.

Common troubleshooting is to try a different USB port and to give your ipad a reset. (hold down the sleep and home keys for about 20 seconds. When you see the silver apple, let go and let it reboot)
You can also try on a different computer to see if it's the ipad or the computer.
When you charge, do you try to charge plugged into the wall? that's the best way to charge.
If you go through all that and it's still not working hten it may be time to make an appointment at your local apple store and have them check it out

  • TS1538 iPod Touch with blank screen that doesn't shut off and not recognized by iTunes?

I opened the app "MyTown 2", and it stayed on the opening screen for about 5 minutes - WAYYY too long! So I tried to close the app. A slight grayscale sort of film "slid" down over the opening screen, and then it went to this light gray, completely blank screen. It's been that way for over an hour - no matter what I do, can't do a hard shut down, and the device is not recognized by iTunes at all. It's completely DEAD!!!! Is there any hope? Anyone have a clue?

Following the instructions in this procedure to the letter. Here they are, with emphasis on some easily overlooked requirements:
Disconnect the USB cable from the iPod Touch, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release only the Sleep/Wake button.
Continue pressing and holding the Home button while you reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.Note: If you see the "low battery" screen, let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some charge, and then start with step 2 again.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears (iTunes icon and USB connector) release the Home button.
If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the "recovery mode" alert ("iTunes has detected a phone in recovery mode").
Use iTunes to restore the device.
If you do not see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, see this article and its related links.
Select the device in iTunes and choose "restore from backup".
If you still can't get it to work, you have done all you can and only Apple will be able to help.

  • IPad (3rd gen) Wi-Fi which keeps cycling on and off.

I have a iPad (3rd gen) Wi-Fi which keeps cycling on and off.

Please tell me that it has NEVER been jailbroke.  If it has not been jailbroke, here are some standard repair procedures:
First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore (or it doesn't help), go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.  You WILL lose all of your data (game scores, etc,) but, for the most part, you can redownload apps and music without being charged again.  Also, if you have IOS-7, read this.

It seems to me that the connection port is faulty.

  • Is it safe to use the new ipad (3rd gen) while on charge

I have the New Ipad (3rd Gen) 32gb wifi onlymodel,, and I use it while on charge i notice that it took way longer to charge while i use... will in not damage the devoce nor the batter if i use it while on charge?

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • My IPod Touch 4th gen won't charge unless its off when it's on it won't even recognize the charger or indicate it's charging please help me figure out so I can charge and use it at the same time

    Help would be appreciated

The charger yo are using does not supply enough power to both charge the iPod and power a working iPod at the same times.
Not the wall you plug the wall charger into if you are using a wall charger.
Have you tried another charging source?
I would also try another cable.
    Further
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.

  • My iPod keeps shutting off and not responding

My iPod started restarting itself and opening back up every three days. It is completely charged when it shuts off but when it opens back up it needs to be charged. This started happening recently and I don't know why. Help? My home button is broken

    Try:
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:

  • 3rd Gen No Longer Charges, Connect to internet, Blows Fuses.

    Hey
So I have a 10gig 3G Ipod that worked fine. On a long trip, the ipod blew a fuse in the 12V Car Charger and has not worked since.
The Ipod will not charge now from the home brick charger, and with what little power was left when I got home, would not connect to the PC. The Ipod id dead now and will not recharge or connect to the PC.
I have the charger that splits to the brick and to the PC.
Any Ideas? Is my battery Just finally gone or did something break in the plug in on the Ipod. Its the "blowing fuses" on the Car charger that's gettin me.
Any help would be greatly apprieciated.

My guess is whatever caused the fuse in your car to blow also caused a short inside the iPod that is now preventing it from charging properly.
There is no way for us to know whether a new battery would fix this or not. There are third-party iPod repair services available that can probably repair it cheaper than would Apple. I see iPodresq recommended a lot on these forums. You might see what they say.
    Goos luck.
    Cheers!

  • My ipod touch 5th gen randomly shut off and not been able to turn back on?

It had been laying on my bed all day long and when I took the case off there was a weird sticky residue on it. It 100% wasn't edible though so it wasn't food. What do i do?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • IPhone appeared to not be charging, then shut off and won't come back on.

Please, anyone??? I had my phone plugged into the car charger that came with my phone. Suddenly the phone appeared to not be charging. It finally went dead. Even though now it has been plugged up to the house USB cable for over 3 hours it doesn't make the sound like it is charging when I connect it, it doesn't show the charging screen. And I can't power it back on. Even by holding the home button and the top button at the same times it won't reset or anything!!!! Has anyone else had this issue and is there a cure????? HELP!!!!

Today was in an apple store - they checked it and found that charge in battery was too low. They replaced it immediately and - lucky me - there was still a warranty (only 17 days left). The replaced iPhone has warranty of 90 days.
There seems to be no other solution.
