IPad 3rd gen wifi & external bluetooth gps receivers

Has anyone had success connecting the iPAD 3rd gen wifi to external bluetooth gps receivers, other than the XGPS150 or Bad Elf?

I had the same issue.  I came up with a work around until they get it fixed.
I also attempted to sync selected folders from my computer to my Ipad 3.  Only 3 of the 8 picture folders would sync to my new Ipad 3. . I had same issue as noted above. The sync would start and then stop. The selected folder which was syncing would disappear from the Ipad 3. .
My work around:  I created a new folder in my Pictures file, copied and pasted the photos in new folder.
I entered the Pictures folder on my computer, I made a new folder and named new folder IPAD3 ABCD
( ABCD was specific name of contents in folder), I then copied photos from original file that would not sync and pasted them in the new folder named IPADABCD.  I did this one at a time.  I went back and re-synced one new folder at a time.  I only had to redo the above list one time for one folder that did not sync after doing this.  But all my photo folders are now on Ipad3.
Hope this helps.

    Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

  • IPad 3rd Gen WIFI or GSM?

My iPad 3rd Gen is a 16Gig wifi+cellular version. I did face a problem of getting the error of wrong firmware earlier at times when I tried to restore it by manually downloading the firmware.
The Model stated in About section of Settings is  = 'MD369B/A'
I am downloading the firmware iOS 7.0.4
Which firmware should I download, GSM or WIFI ? Kindly guide me!
Thanks in advance for any reply.

Since its cellular you'll want the GSM version.
But now sure where you are getting this option.  iTunes will download the correct one Automatically.
If you are a developer and have access to alternate firmware versions then this should be posted in the developer forums.
Other than that, downloading firmware separately is not something supported by Apple.

  • HT204023 Why doesn't my new ipad (3rd gen) wifi+4g with virgin have personal hotspot?

Hi there, I have a new iPad Wifi +4G that I recently purchased whilst I was overseas in America from an Apple Store. I have a data plan back here in Australia which is a $99 micro sim for 10GB of data for a year which is with Virgin (running on the Optus network).
I have with no success found the personal hotspot setting anywhere, whether it be in settings main menu or settings, general, network. I have tried with the network on and off and have not found it.
I rang Virgin, who somewhat explained that they weren't doing personal hotspot yet, or at all (kinda hard to understand their tech support)...
I hope this isn't a Telstra only feature, as apart from their coverage wouldn't go with them anyway.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Harrison.

This solves my question, however annoys the **** out of me. Watching the apple keynote for the new iPad they said customers would have personal hotspot built in. It seems that apple has screwed around with their phrasing again, not mentioning it would in fact be carrier based.
    Thanks for the help!
    Kind regards, Harrison
IMHO your reasoning makes no sense. The iPad has what is required for "personal hotspot" built in. It only makes sense that you would need a plan that supports this built in functionality in order to use it.
When you buy a car advertised to get 40mpg do you get **** because the car dealer never told you that in order to get 40mpg you have to buy gasoline? The car's 40mpg capability is built in but you still need to buy gas to use that functionality.

I am not sure what the **** is going on with my luved Ipad. It has been working perfectly until last weekend when I turned it on as normal but it would not open to my first page. Normally I simply open my ipad cover and it starts up straight away, I put in my password and away I go. All I have at the moment is a 'black' screen. I have tried pressing the Home button but it does not open my ipad.
I have tried connecting to Itunes and updaing which it does (there is about 50% battery left) in Itunes on my computer, but my ipad does not open.
I bought the above ipad online at the Apple Store here in Australia on the 14th June 2012.
I luv my ipad and am keen to get it working again.
I know there are some amazing helpers out there in ipad land. Could you please suggest what I should do as it is not operating at the moment.

  • Help with Ipad (3rd gen) wifi

I have a problem with my Ipad where I'm unable to scroll across a video. For instance if im playing a video on youtube or iplayer, I'm unable to forward the video. I have restored the ipad through Itunes but has not resolved the issue. Any ideas why this is happening?

For the issue with Messages, try this. Settings>Messages>Show Subject Field>Off. Then try typing and sending a message.
Did you restore as new? You didn't say if you did or not? I don't think this is going to help with the video scrubbing but it doesn't hurt anything. Reboot your iPad.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • Location services on iPad 3rd gen with wifi not working.

We use iZettle for business payment solution at our store, and we switch between iPhone 5s and iPad 3rd generation... The phone is working, but the iPad that is stationary at our shop ALWAYS fails when we resync the bank terminal. Most likely because the Location services is showing a place far away from where we are...
We get the ipad to work after hours spent to reset Network settings and a lot of things... But we cannot do business this way... I am sad to say, be we are thinking of going to Samsung Galaxy or something... Because this is ridiculous...
I think Apple should fix this in some way...

Location services cause problem because of the wifi network: iPad relies on databases of location of wifi router, and the router you have was probably used somewhere "far away" before. You have 2 options:
    change router and network name
or sell your iPad 3rd Generation wifi model and get a (second hand) iPad erg gen cellular model. it should cost about 50$ more than what you sold the iPad at. you won't need an access plan, the cellular model has a GPS chip that will solve your problems. (unless the building you're in is full of concrete, preventing GPS communication: check if phones in the building can access GPS before "changing" iPads.

Do you clean your iPad screen?  Do not use standard window cleaners, with ammonia or alcohol, like Windex, but a damp towel, followed by a micro-fibre cloth is recommended.  There are also cleaners you can buy which are specifically designed for iPad/iPhone devices, such as iClean from Monster.

  • GPS on Ipad 4th Gen WiFi only

Hello,  can you tell me if the iPad 4th Gen WiFi Only will provide GPS services sufficient to run navigation apps such as Apple Maps and Google Maps.  I am confused by some reports which state that any GPS positioning is carried out by the cellular chip - which I understand to be absent on the WiFi only model.
I plan to use my iPhone 5 to tether to the iPad, so that I at least have internet connection through the iPhone's 3G connection, but I really want to be able to use the iPad/iPhone combination as a SatNav facility too.
I have tried sales and they cant help - referring me to Tech Support.  Tech support seem confused and have suggested it "Probably" can, but wont confirm this in writing.
I do not intend to buy the iPad with the possibility that this is true.  I would really like a definitive answer.
    Thanks in advance
    Alistair

The WiFi only iPad does not have a GPS chip and does location through WiFi routers. Tethering to your iPhone will allow you to use the GPS chip on it and utilize Apple and Google Maps.

  • IPad (3rd gen) losing wifi connection during large downloads

    Hi,
I am having a problem with my iPad 3rd generation (wifi only, 64GB) running iOS 6.1.3.
When I download large files (e.g. via the iTunes app, the BBC iPlayer app, The Economist app), my iPad almost always loses wifi connection a minute or two into the download, and often stays disconnected until I go into Settings > Wifi and select my home network again. If I resume the download in relevant application, the same issue will typically recur within a minute or two.
I am not having any other problems with this iPad - general internet browsing / streaming of video has been fine. I originally thought the issue was only with the BBC iPlayer app, but sadly have found it to be more widespread.
I have tried to "forget this network", resetting network settings, restoring my entire iPad (twice), and resetting all settings - none of these have stopped the issue. Interestingly, during the first restore of the iPad I received ugly BIOS-esque messages relating to AppleBCMWLANCore, which disappeared after a hard reboot (power + home buttons together), and did not recur on the 2nd restore.
Anyone else experiencing something similar? Any suggestions to fix this?
    Cheers,
    James

Locate the iPad as close as possible  to your router.
    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • IPad (3rd gen) losing wifi connection during BBC iPlayer downloads

    Hi,
I am having a strange, app-specific problem with my iPad 3rd generation (wifi only, 64GB) running iOS 6.1.3.
When I use the BBC iPlayer app (version 2.0.5.33) to download a TV show to watch offline, my iPad almost always loses wifi connection a minute or two into the download, and it stays disconnected until I go into Settings > Wifi and select my home network again. If I resume the download in iPlayer, the same issue will typically recur within a minute or two.
I am not having any other connectivity problems with this iPad, and other sizeable downloads (e.g. from iTunes, from the App Store etc) are not having the same issue. Similarly, I can stream live BBC iPlayer content without issue - it is just the iPlayer downloads that seem to create this condition (which then effects the whole iPad / all other running apps).
I have tried to "forget this network", resetting network settings and restoring my entire iPad - none of these have stopped the issue. Interestingly, during restore of the iPad I received ugly BIOS-esque messages relating to AppleBCMWLANCore, which have disappeared after a hard reboot (power + home buttons together) - does this indicate a problem with the iPad hardware itself?
Anyone else experiencing something similar? Any suggestions to fix this? Or am I dependent on the BBC updating the app?
    Cheers,
    James

    Hey James,
I would try out standard third party application troubleshooting and see if that resolves the Wi-Fi issue. :
    1. Update your device software
    2. Check for app updates
    3. Install another app from the App Store
    4. Restart the application
    5. Restart your device
    6. Reinstall the affected application
For more info on each step, check out the full article:
iOS: Troubleshooting applications purchased from the App Store
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1702
If none of those steps work, then you would want to contact the developer of the application for further assistance.
    Regards,
    David

  • Non support of external Bluetooth GPS--- WHY???

I have an iPad2 wifi I want to use as a moving map system for flying.  Apple does not support external Bluetooth GPS units, .... WHY????
I don't want to have to buy another BT GPS, as I already have 4 that SHOULD work.  Short of Hacking the iPad, there is only one BT GPS that works.
I'm dissapointed, and may have to return this iPad if I can't get it to work with what I already have.
    Any ideas??
    Thanks.
    Dave

Chris,  None of my BT GPS units below will link to the iPad.  I have had no problems at all with linking them to any other PDA, Laptop, or Computer that I've tried.  (OK, all PC's)
The GNS 5870 will connect to Apple only.
The Dual XGPS 150 has a switch to change from Apple to all others.
I don't want to have to buy another BT GPS just for this iPad.
    1.  Holux GPSlim 236B
    2.  i.Trek M7
    3.  Socket BTGPS
    4.  BTGPS (I think mod. 238)

  • Safari issues, iPad 3rd gen iOS 5,1,1

Right, I bought an iPad 3rd gen and I've been having to reset it 2-3 times daily because of this issue.
When generally surfing the web, doesnt matter what sites it seems, safari just decides.
I'm not going to load the link you just clicked on :P
The site address changes, a small portion of the progress bar turns blue and nothing. It just freezes.
Nothing I've tried (clearing all caches etc) makes any difference, except a reset. Quite annoying.
I had no such issues on my iPad 2.
This issue doesnt appear to be limited to safari though. I've had problems with lovefilm and my speed test app as well so I'm guessing its a general wifi problem.
After safari froze I decided to check the speed of my connection. It didn't come back with a ping, I waited 10 mins still nothing.
At the same time my iPhone (4s) with the same app came back with a ping of  30ms and d/l speed of 15MB/s.
I'm now confused as to whether this is a software or hardware issue.
    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Swingflaps-
One thing you can try is to reset (reboot) your iPad.  Hold both the Home and Sleep buttons for several seconds until the Apple logo appears.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" arrow.  The iPad will restart after a couple of minutes.  Resetting this way will not hurt anything, and sometimes clears up mysterious problems.
    Fred
