Ipad 4 black screen won't boot itunes does recognize and tried to restore

A friend of mine brought me an ipad that she was given. The owner didn't know what happened and just went and bought another one. Must be nice! Anyway, my friend wants to get this fixed and brought it to me because she is no kind of geek. I'm running Windows 7, all updated, just checked. I installed most current iTunes, just checked that too. Ipad 4 is looking dead. No response to sleep button or home button. Press and hold both and no response ever. I have read through many options and have tried everything. If I open iTunes and plug in ipad while holding home button, iTunes recognizes the ipad and says it is in recovery mode and so forth. I click the button to restore and it asked to restore and update and I click that option. It downloaded the software package first time and then showed a progress bar on iTunes of unpacking the software and then it said installing or something and the progress bar zoomed across. All the while the ipad showed no reaction whatsoever. I let it sit for over 2 hours with no change to the ipad or iTunes. I hunted around online and found the IPSW file that I think is for this tablet. It said iPad 4 model A1458 which is the model number on back of this tablet. I'm downloading it now. I am planning to try the ****+click option in itunes and installing that IPSW.
Does anyone have any other ideas? I know my system is recognizing the ipad in DFU mode but I can't get any reaction on the tablet. I don't ever see any progress or results in iTunes or on the iPad. This thing has no physical damage so I don't think that's it. The original owner said one day a bunch of stuff popped up on the screen and then it shut down and would never come back.
I know there has to be a way to fix this. I don't believe it is truly bricked for all eternity.
And, yes, I have read many apple support articles about how to use recovery and rescue using old backups and whatnot. I don't have old backups for this device.
Thanks for any suggestions or solutions.
Victoria

And one more point, I am not an Apple user. This is my first experience and have had to learn as I go. So any explanations please break it down for a noob. I am fairly computer geeky but when it comes to Mac or Apple or iAnything... I have zero experience.

  • IPhone 5 won't boot up, error 4005 when trying to restore!

First things first - English is not my first language so please excuse the errors I make. If anything is unclear/badly explained just say so and I will do my best to try again.
I am the (right now not so) happy owner of a iPhone 5 64GB since late april. It was purchased online in the germal localization of apple store.
For a month or two everything was alright, but suddenly the phone went out and restarted - at first I panicked a bit, but after a few weeks without any problems I thought that was a one time occurrence. Then it happend again. And again. And again. Sometimes it didn't restart for over an hour. (This was especially aggravating while I travelled and all my tickets were on that phone.) This all was while iOS 6.X was still a thing.
I updated to iOS 7 as soon as it was out and it worked well for some weeks. Then it broke down again and didn't boot at all, it was looped in the process. I panicked and googled and restored it successfully via restore mode. (Against all advice from backup though.)
It worked for a while but a few days ago it broke down again. Annoyed I wanted to repeat it, but restore mode wouldn't work anymore! That "connect to iTunes" symbol won't even show up and iTunes doesn't recognize the phone.
I tried DFU mode, iTunes now connected and initiated the restore process. But while it showed "Waiting for iPhone" the phone (in DFU mode!) suddenly tried to restart over and over (logo showing and fading and showing again...). Everytime I got "Error 4005". (That seems to be a error usually occurring when a cable or an adapter is broken, so I believe that the rebooting of the phone "broke" the connection to iTunes or something?)
    What I tried so far:
    Switching cables
    Crying
    Different computers
my main computer (Win7 64 Pro), with my full iTunes library
a new account on my main computer, iTunes without a linked ID
my MacBook Air (OSX Lion) with a linked iTunes and, after reinstalling, a "blank" one
another computer with Win7 64 Pro and a virginal iTunes (this got Error 4014 the first time, after that also 4005)
    "Repaired" Apple Mobile Device Support
    Crying some more
I haven't had a phone for several days now and I'm giving up. I will contact support tomorrow.
But is there ANYONE who knows this problem? I know that the reboot loop is notorious, but that even DFU mode (and yes, I used it correctly) doesn't work? Hardware defect? (I was VERY gentle with the phone...)
Any help, information and last straws would be very much appreciated. I still hope I simply overlooked something obvious.
    Thank you!

Yesterday (April 14, 2014), my 32Gb iPhone 5S running ios 7.1 unexpectantly shutdown. After plugging it in to the MacBook that I normally sync to, iTunes told me that the iPhone was in Restore mode. After some seaching on the web, I decided to let iTunes proceed with what it claimed was the only course; a restore. It claimed that all data would be erased. I went ahead since I had a backup (old). The MacBook didn't have a copy of the most recent iOS (7.1), so it downloaded v7.1, verified it and started working with the iPhone. After a minute (roughly) the iPhone lit up, but didn't proceed past the Apple logo. iTunes eventually showed an error saying the operation was unsuccessful; ending with (4005). Apple support suggested I turn off "Find My iPhone" from iCloud. Tried that, no change in the result. I tried the restore procedure again, but this time after the restore error appeared, I dismissed the error and left the iPhone plugged in to the Mac. After a few more minutes the iPhone continued to start up! I was able to backup all data locally to my Mac, and then complete the Restore. A fresh install of iOS 7.1 and a restore from backup gave me my phone back. In summary, don't give up if you see error (4005). Hope this helps someone. And back up your phone regularly!

  • Ideapad S10-3 black screen, won't boot

    Hello, every body.
I have a lenovo ideapad s10-3. Right now it is black screen and won't boot, but power works.
I disassembled it, and just left CPU, graphics card, and RAM. Power works, and fan starts rotating and stops. I leave it running, i can feel CPU and Graphics Card hot.
Before this problem(black screen and won't boot) happened. sometime it can boot, somtimes it does not and black screen. Sometime after trying several time (force ti shutdown, restart power on), it boots and goes to be normal. Right now it won't work anymore.
At the left-bottom of laptop, there are 4 flash lights, the former 3 are working fine, and the last (4th. there is small arrow (two sides) in the center of cylinder, what does it mean?) does not flash. If it flashes fine, the computer works well, if not, won't work.
I clean the RAM fingerpin, won't work. Tried to connect with external screen, won't work. Remove BIOS battery, won't work. I tried another Hard Drive and RAM seperately, it does not work.
I did try this solution (How to fix Graphics Card in Lenovo R61 ), but it does not work for my computer.
I can press power button to force the laptop shut down, it looks like the motherboard has no problem
What is going on my laptop. Please help me of this trouble. Thanks a lot.
    Happy Christmas and New Year.

    Hi,
    1) Yeah, somehow OS X has been messed up enough that it can't finish loading. What else have you done with it lately? When I went through my machine fiddling with Quicktime in the system Library folders, I ended up where you are.
    2) I don't think you can fix it from the OF prompt. I had a daily backup of my drive, and so I was able to boot off of that. You can boot back into OS 9 though, by holding down the Option key after a cold boot's chime.
    4) I'd say it's worth fixing. Beats plunking down $500 or more on a new machine.

  • Computer won't go beyond black screen won't boot

Hello all, I have a Mac desktop which is almost five years old.  I turn on my computer, and you can hear it turn on but the screen is black.  You can see the little power button flash but nothing happens.  Any suggestions how to fix it?

The light in front is flashing? You may need to reseat the RAM chips. Take a look at this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1432 Follow the steps to remove the RAM, but don't take it all the way out, just push it back in. Let us know.

  • Films downloaded won't play.I just get a black screen. My computer crashed last week and I had to do a 'total recovery' - an important link is missing... anyone any idea what it could be? I have updated iTunes and Quick Player

Films that I have downloaded from iTunes won't play. I just get a black screen. My computer crashed last week and I had to do a Total Recovery - Films played perfectly before this. I must have deleted a program or link.............. anyone know what could be missing? I can play YouTube videos etc. but nothing in the iTunes store - films or trailers won't work.

The movie is from iTunes.   You would think that a download from iTunes to a MacBook could be watched on an HDTV using Apple TV without any headaches bit this does not appear to be the case.

  • Boot Camp black screen unable to boot Win7

So I decided to do some tomfoolery with my 2011 27" iMac and installed a SSD alongside the HDD in the computer. The original HDD partition setup was:
    HDD
    1. Macintosh HD
    2. Bootcamp
After installing the SSD I partitioned it into two, copied over the boot camp partition (using clonezilla), deleted all the partitions on the HDD and created a fusion drive with a separate bootcamp partition. Both drives partitioning should be as follows:
    SSD
    1. Fusion HD SSD portion
    2. Bootcamp
    HD
    1. Fusion HD HDD portion
I think there's a recovery HD partition on the HD, but I don't see it when booting and holding down option.
My issue is windows will not boot any longer. I can see the bootcamp partition and files in Mac OS X Mavericks, I can select bootcamp from startup disk, but when booting all I get is a black screen with a blinking cursor. I've tried multiple things to fix this, but still with no luck. I've run the windows 7 boot disk repair tool, including bootrec and chkdsk.
    I do have gdisk installed.

Am I attempting something currently impossible? It seems odd that I cannot get the installation of windows to become bootable again.
    Any help is appreciated.

Yep, me too. Tech support told me to find a Mac display to connect to in order to get the Windows disk to boot. They said it's a "chicken and egg thing". The Windows side needs the driver for the non-Mac display in order to boot the disk, but the driver is on the OS X disk which is run AFTER the Windows software is installed. Personally, I think it's false advertising, this no-problem-use-your-existing-peripherals Mac Mini. The Tech guy tried to sell me a new Mac display. At $1000 after tax for the display, suddenly I wondering why I didn't just buy an iMac?

You may have a faulty USB cable. Try another.
Make sure you are following the instructions in this procedure to the letter. Here they are, with emphasis on some easily overlooked requirements:
Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release only the Sleep/Wake button.
Continue pressing and holding the Home button while you reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.Note: If you see the "low battery" screen, let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some charge, and then start with step 2 again.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears (iTunes icon and USB connector) release the Home button.
If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the "recovery mode" alert ("iTunes has detected a phone in recovery mode").
Use iTunes to restore the iPhone.
If you do not see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, see this article and its related links.
Select the device in iTunes and choose "restore from backup".
If you still can't get it to work, you have done all you can and only Apple will be able to help.

  • [SOLVED] Black screen halfway through boot before login screen appears

I originally installed my Arch Linux 64 system on a quad core intel cpu with 4GB RAM and a Nvidia 9600 GT graphics card. Arch is installed on 2 500 GB HDD running on software RAID and LVM. A few months ago I decided I wanted to upgrade my machine to an i7-2600K with 8 GB RAM and a Nvidia 580 GTX graphics card. Since I was using pure software RAID I knew that I could just reuse my installation. So I popped in the drives into the new machine and glory glory Arch booted just fine. One thing I notied though and this has been bothered me since then. On my old machine I could see the whole boot process from start to finish. On my new machine I only see the first few seconds and then a black screen for few seconds and then I get the login screen (KDM in my case). Now I'm running a pure systemd system and I can see the boot process until
    [ok]     started loading random ...
and then the black screen sets in. Why does this happen? Why can't see if udev, samba etc. start correctly anymore?

I don't have the nouveau driver installed at all. But I finally got rid of the black screen. I simply added nomodeset to the kernel parameters in grub and now everything ass before.

Perhaps you installed the wrong version OS X onto the iMac, you can't use the disk from another Mac.
