Ipad 4 frozen when updating to os 8

I plugged my ipad into my pc to update software. I get the unknown error has occured (1671). I've search but haven't been able to find anything with that code number. Now my ipad is frozen on the connect to itunes. I've tried doing a hard reset but nothing. When I plug it in itunes pickes it up. However I can't not update it or restore it without getting that unknown error (1671). HELP!

Hi there did you end up getting this resolved? I have the same exact same issue with my Ipad 4 when updating to 8.1.3....frozen on the apple logo. Tried resetting as advised by other users but just goes back to the same logo. Tried connecting to iTunes but device is not picked up at all. Left it over night to run flat hoping charging might kick start something....but when I put on the charger it shows the battery charge icon but won't actually charge it. If your iPad is not recognized by iTunes anymore, then you need to restore your iPad using recovery mode:

By the way, if you don't want your battery to run down, simply plug the iPad into the charger, which itself should be plugged into a mains outlet.

Does the iPhone icon appear in iTunes when you connect via USB to teh computer?
If so I wonder if the proximity sensor has failed and is turning the display off, or if the display has failed.

You need to start the latest version of itunes on your computer and connect your iPad in order to restore it.

my ipad has frozen with the itunes symbol on it after trying to upload some music from laptop. The system said I had to update my ipad before continuinng and now it has frozen. Can not get it to do anything. When i plug my ipad back into my laptop it says update but it will loose all on it. how do i cancel this.

ITunes DID recognize new iPad mini, error when updating, now doesn't. Please help. I have a 700 dollar paperweight now.

Today I bought a brand new iPad mini 2, 32 gb. First, I backed up my old ipad mini to my hard drive. Then, I updated iTunes to the newest version. Then, I plugged in the new iPad mini, went through the set up, iTunes was working fine. I registered the iPad, then it suggested i update the iOS on the iPad. This is where things went south. After a few minutes, it stated "cannot update iOS 7 at this time" or something to that effect. Since that point, iTunes will not recognize the iPad. The iPad shows the "connect to iTunes" screen. When I plug it in, I hear the tone suggesting a new device is connected, but nothing happens. I've tried it in DFU mode, no results. I've tried putting it in recovery mode, nothing happens, just the same screen. I've uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled it, following every step suggested through this site/apple support. I even uninstalled and installed an older version of iTunes (10.7) but same result. I've followed all troubleshooting steps, and nothing is working, so please don't suggest the same olf "iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows" page.
What should I do? Do I have to take this to the geniuses at the store? Will they even be able to help without having access to my computer?

It is in Recovery mode and needs to be connected to a computer running itunes.

Ipod frozen when updating

I moved 500 cds from my emac (to free up some hard drive space) to an external hard drive. I changed my itunes preference setting in "advanced" to utilize the itunes library on the external hard drive. The library has been successfully "added" to the itunes program on the emac.
When I try to update/sync my 40 gig clickwheel ipod, it freezes after updating any number of files (1489 the first try, 32 the second try, and 4409 the third.
When it freezes, nothing works, even on the emac. Including force quitting itunes. I am forced to do a hard shut down which leaves my ipod frozen with the "do not disconnect" message. Restting it ususally works, but how am I going to ever get my music onto my ipod? Thanks for any help.

i was updating my ipad to the new ios software. the cable got disconnected just as it was completing the update. when it connected again it said i need to restore it. Once going thru the restore process, it said that Itunes can't recognize the ipad. one note, the ipad shows on my itunes as a "IPAD" and no name, serial #, etc... The ipad has a symbol on it telling me to connect to itunes

A System Reset cures many ills. It's easy, quick and harmless:
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.
A System Reset does not remove any apps, music, movies, etc. nor does it cause any settings to revert back to default.
Also, you might wish to download the iPad-2 User Guide. Pay special attention to page 162. Note that this Guide also applies to the iPad-1 with IOS 4.3 except for those functions that are not supported by the hardware.

2. Turn on computer and launch iTunes (make sure you have the latest version of iTune)
3. Plug USB cable into computer's USB port
4. Hold Home button down and plug the other end of cable into docking port.
DO NOT RELEASE BUTTON until you see picture of iTunes and plug
5. Release Home button.
ON COMPUTER
6. iTunes has detected iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes.
7. Select "Restore iPad"...
Note:
1. Data will be lost if you do not have backup
2. You must follow step 1 to step 4 VERY CLOSELY.
3. Repeat the process if necessary.
